Experts say that students usually need eight to ten hours of sleep at night; but most Chinese students do not get enough sleep. Some Chinese parents are usually glad to see their children studying until late at night. They think that their children work very hard, but not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us that every morning her 10-year-old boy put up one finger with his eyes still closed, begging for one more minutes to sleep. Like thousands of student “ early birds” in China, he has to get up before six every morning.

In the early Nineteenth Century, people dud bit use stamps. They had to pay postage(邮资) when they received letters. Sometimes they didn’t want to receive a letter at all, but they had to pay the money for it anyway. They were unhappy about this. The postage was high at that time because the post office had to send many people to collect the postage.
Rowland Hill was school teacher in England. He was the first to come up with the idea of using stamps in the 1850s. he thought it would be much easier for people to use stamps. They could go to the post office to buy stamps and put them on the envelopes(信封) before they sent the letters. The post office could just put seals(印记) on the stamps so that people could not use the stamps again. This way, the post office did not need to send postmen to collect the postage.
