Richard Evans, a retired lorry driver, and his family were traveling in Spain last summer when their camper van broke down. They left it to be brought back by the AA. But customs officers at Dover claimed it was being used for smuggling. They seized the vehicle and all its contents, including 9,000 cigarettes and 20 bottles of spirits. The van, worth ¡ ê20, 000( $30, 800), i s still impounded. It even took Mr. Evans six months to recover his 90-year-old motherin-law's wheelchair.

1 If you like unusual, gripping stories, the kind that you cannot stop reading until you reach the end, then you will enjoy the story about a customs officer. It tells of a young customs officer, called Harvey, whose duty was to prevent smuggling—bringing goods into or sending them out from a country without paying duty to the Government. That was common in England at one time.
