Someone recently asked me when I became more confident about my abilities as an entrepreneur.(企业家) I thought it was a funny question, __36__ I’m not very confident at all, and constantly filled with __37__ about every decision I make。

It doesn’t exactly hold me back in my work; it is just that I am very __38__ of what I do, and I’m always __39__ on the way I work, think and talk. I have also learned over the years that making a decision is often more important than making the __40__ decision。

Preferably your decisions are the right ones, but inaction or indecisiveness is more __41__ than making the wrong decision every now and then。

There is one thing I have learned over the years that I wish I had learned earlier in my career. And that is the __42__ that I am not stupid.
It sounds logical, but I often sat in on meetings and heard people explain things and then __43__ to myself,“I don't understand that。

Maybe I'm stupid?" or I would hear about a startup and I would not __44__ their business model and think I'm stupid。

Or I would hear an entrepreneur speak and think, “That all __45__ like bullshit, but I must be stupid, because other people seem to love it.”
A couple of years ago, I came to the __46__ that I was not stupid at all。

When people in meetings say things I don’t understand I __47__up and tell them so。

Usually, I hear a sigh of __48__ in the room and find out nobody understood what was being talked about.
When I don’t understand a business model it usually means there is not one, or it __49__. Turns out I'm not stupid and __50__ I don’t understand it, most people won't understand it at all. __51__ doubting my own abilities I’ve learned to __52__ my “bullshit radar” a bit more and not understanding something is a clear sign that something is __53__.
My advice to young entrepreneurs is this: you are not stupid! If something does not make __54__, if it sounds stupid, if you do not understand it, something is wrong! Trust your gut (本能的) __55__. Feel free to not know and be honest when you don't understand something!

Ask someone what they have done to help the environment recently and they will almost certainly mention recycling。

Recycling in the home is very important of course。

However, being forced to recycle often means we already have more material than we need. We are dealing with the results of that over-consumption in the greenest way possible, but it would be far better if we did not need to bring so much material home in the first place.
The total amount of packaging increased by 12% between 1999 and 2005. It now makes up a third of a typical household’s waste in the UK. In many supermarkets nowadays food items are packaged twice with plastic and cardboard。

Too much packaging is doing serious damage to the environment。

The UK, for example, is running out of it for carrying this unnecessary waste. If such packaging is burnt, it gives off greenhouse gases which go on to cause the greenhouse effect。

Recycling helps, but the process itself uses energy. The solution is not to produce such items in the first place. Food waste is a serious problem, too。

Too many supermarkets encourage customers to buy more than they need。

However, a few of them are coming round to the idea that this cannot continue, encouraging customers to reuse their plastic bags, for example.
But this is not just about supermarkets。

It is about all of us. We have learned to associate packaging with quality。

We have learned to think that something unpackaged is of poor quality。

This is especially true of food. But is also applies to a wide range of consumer products, which often have far more packaging than necessary。

There are signs of hope. As more of us recycle, we are beginning to realize just how much unnecessary material are collecting. We need to face the wastefulness of our consumer culture, but we have a mountain to climb。

59. What does the underlined phrase “over—consumption” refer to?
A. Using too much packaging. B。

Recycling too many wastes.
C. Making more products than necessary.
D. Having more material than is needed.
60。

The author uses figures in Paragraph 2 to show _______。

A. the tendency of cutting household waste
B. the increase of packaging recycling
C。

the rapid growth of super markets D. the fact of packaging overuse
61. According to the text, recycling ______。

A. helps control the greenhouse effect B。

means burning packaging for energy
C。

is the solution to gas shortage D。

leads to a waste of land
62. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A. Unpackaged products are of bad quality.
B. Supermarkets care more about packaging。

C。

It is improper to judge quality by packaging. D。

Other products are better packaged than food.
63 What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Fighting wastefulness is difficult. B。

Needless material is mostly recycled.
C。

People like collecting recyclable waste。

D。

The author is proud of their consumer culture.

Rae Armantrout, who has been a poetry professor at the University of California San Diego(UCSD) for two decades, has won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in the poetry category for her most recent book, “Versed"。

“I’m delighted and amazed at how much media recognition that the Pulitzer brings, as compared to even the National Book Critics Award, which I was also surprised and delighted to win,” said Armantrout.
“For a long time, my writing has been just below the media radar, and to have this kind of attention, suddenly, with my 10th book, is really surprising。

Armantrout, a native Californian, received her bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley, where she studied with noted poet Denise Levertov, and her master’s in creative writing from San Francisco State University。

She is a founding member of Language Poets, a
group in American poetry that analyzes the way language is used and raises questions to make the reader think.
In March, she won the National Book Critics Circle Award for “Versed."
“This book has gotten more attention," Armantrout said, “but I don't fe el as if it’s better。

The first half of “Versed” focuses on the dark forces taking hold of the United States as it fought the war against Iraq. The second half looks at the dark forces casting a shadow over her own life after Armantrout was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.
Armantrout was shocked to learn she had won the Pulitzer but many of her colleagues were not。

“Rae Armantrout is a unique voice in American poetry," said Seth Lerer, head of Arts and Humanities at UCSD。

“Versed”, published by the Wesleyan University Press, did appear in a larger printing than her earlier works, which is about 2,700 copies。

The new edition is scheduled to appear in May.

Batteries can power anything from small sensors to large systems。

While scientists are finding ways to make them smaller but even more powerful, problems can arise when these batteries are much larger and heavier than the devices themselves. University of Missouri(MU) researchers are developing a nuclear energy source that is smaller, lighter and more efficient。

“To provide enough power, we need certain methods with high energy density(密度)”,said Jae Kwon, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at MU. “The radioisotope(放射性同位素) battery can provide power density that is much
higher than chemical batteries."
Kwon and his research team have been working on building a small nuclear battery, presently the size and thickness of a penny, intended to power various micro / nanoelectromechanical systems (M/NEMS)。

Although nuclear batteries can cause concerns, Kwon said they are safe。

“People hear the word ‘nuclear' and think of something very dangerous,” he said, “However, nuclear power sources have already been safely powering a variety of devices, such as pace-makers,space satellites and underwater systems.”
His new idea is not only in the battery's size, but also in its semiconductor (半导体). Kwon’s battery uses a liquid semiconductor rather than a solid semiconductor.
“The key part of using a radioactive battery is that when you harvest the energy, part of the radiation energy can damage the lattice structure(晶体结构) of the solid semiconductor,” Kwon said,“By using a liquid semiconductor, we believe we can minimize that problem。

Together with J. David Robertson, chemistry professor and associate director of the MU Research Reactor, Kwon is working to build and test the battery. In the future, they hope to increase the battery’s power, shrink its size and try with various other materials. Kwon said that battery could be thinner than the thickness of human hair.
68。

Jae Kwon gave examples in Paragraph 4_________.
A。

to show chemical batteries are widely applied。

B。

to introduce nuclear batteries can be safely used.
C。

to describe a nuclear-powered system。

D。

to introduce various energy sources。

69。

According to Jae Kwon, his nuclear battery _______.
A. uses a solid semiconductor B。

will soon replace the present ones。

C. could be extremely thin D。

has passed the final test。

70。

The text is most probably a ________。

A。

science news report B. book review

第四部分任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
Do you ever feel like you are studying a mad rush of one subject after another? When things happen at such a fast pace, it is easy to lose sight of what you are learning. It is important to stop every now and then to think about what you have been learning。

Self-reflection means stopping the mad rush and calming yourself so that your brain can evaluate what it has already received. Some people prefer to do their self—reflections mentally, while others keep a journal. Either method can work, depending on what your own personal style is.
School textbooks are often divided into units. This can make it easy for someone to begin the process of self- reflection. Watch for the times when you complete a unit of study。

Sometimes you are reminded that the unit is finished because there is some kind of test or quiz。

Use these natural breaks as opportunities to stop and reflect. You should find a quiet place — anywhere without noise is OK. This can even be sitting at your desk at school when you finish something early and the other students are still working. If you are going to take notes, take out your journal。

Write down some notes on things that you newly learned in this unit。

Let your mind think about the notes you have written and make some connections。

Sometimes just pausing to think deeply allows your brain to make connections so that new information can quickly appear when you need it again。

Next, think about things that you still wonder about。

For example, maybe you learned about a certain body system, but you don’t know how it works with the other body sys tems。

Maybe you learned a new way to solve a math problem, but you are not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to continue seeking answers the next time you come across the same topic.
Self—reflection is an essential skill for a successful student。

My View on an Important Skill to Succeed
Ladies and gentlemen,
The society today is a very competitive place. Therefore, it is necessary to develop some skills to increase one's chances of success.
Many skills, for example, leadership,a second language, technical skills such as computer programming, are very useful today. However I believe that the most important skill is to communicate well with others.
In our society today, we have to work cooperatively with others, a good communicator find it easier to put forth his ideas clearly, thus there will be fewer misunderstandings, which can lead to bad feelings as well as a waste of time and efforts。

In addition, a person with good communication skills is a good mediator
and negotiator who can play a valuable role in resolving disputes and enhancing cooperation. Finally, with good communication skills, it is easier to persuade others to accept you point of view. Having you views and plans approved of by others is a vital step on the way to success.
For all the above reasons, it is my belief that strong communication skills are the most important to have and a skillful communicator will always be in high demand 。

That’s all, thank you.。
