Charlie was a little boy of five years old.He was very obedient1to his parents and teachers,so everyone loved him a lot.Due to his father’s job,his family moved to a new city, where he was admitted2in a new school.
As Charlie was a good boy, soon most of his new classmates became his good friends. The teachers also praised3this new boy, because he was smart and nice to people.
But there was one boy in the class who did not like Charlie at all.His name was Bill and he was a very naughty4boy,so no one liked him at all.He found that Charlie was a quiet boy.So he started making troubles5for his new classmate.
At the lunchtime, when Charlie was having lunch,Bill came up to him and asked,“Hey,what do you have for lunch?”“Cake and sweets,”Charlie answered with a smile.
“I love sweets and so I will eat this food today,”Bill said.He took the lunch box from Charlie. The other boys sitting around were angry, but no one protested 6.Because they were afraid of being bullied 7by Bill and his little gang 8.“我爱吃甜食,所以今天我要吃你的食物。
From that day,Bill often ate Charlie ’s lunch and even poured away the water from his water bottle one day.But Charlie still kept quiet and did not complain 9to the class teacher. This was what many of his friends suggested 10he do.
Bill never did his homework and always forced 11the good boys of the class to do his homework.Charlie had to write it down on his copy for him.
When Charlie ’s parents learned about all Bill had done, they wanted to come to the school and complain about this naughty boy.But Charlie stopped them and said,“Mom,Dad,please do not worry.Everything will be all right. After all,Bill is also a kid like me.”
”
The days went by and the time came for the sports meeting at the school. Charlie was also good at sports and he took part in many events12.Bill also took part in the sack race13,though he could not run first because of his fat body.
When Bill saw that Charlie won first prizes in100meters and200 meters,he felt very jealous14.He thought that he would not let it happen in the sack race.
As planned,Bill tried to push Charlie while running on the tracks15of sack race. But he fell down. His leg was badly injured16and he could not even stand up by himself. And as he was not popular with his classmates, even his own best friends did not turn up to help him.
Charlie at first did not know what happened and went ahead running for winning the race. But when he turned back to see that Bill couldn’t get up,he gave up the race and came back to help him.Charlie had to work hard to pull Bill up,as Bill was much bigger.
Charlie also took him to the school doctor.“You lost this sack race only
【Notes 】because of me,”said Bill,after coming out of doctor ’s room.
“My mom tells that helping a friend is more important than winning a race,”answered Charlie.“我妈妈告诉我,帮助朋友比赢得比赛更重要。
Bill was very touched by the words and decided not to bully Charlie again. He also decided in his mind that he would try to be good like Charlie. After that day,Charlie and Bill became best friends. This shows that act of kindness can change everyone into a better person.
