Gary and Gavin were twin brothers who worked in a department store owned by their father. After their father had passed away, they took over the store. Everything went well until the day a twenty-dollar bill disappeared. Gary had left the bill on the cash register (收银机). But when he returned, the money was gone.
Gary then asked his brother Gavin, “Did you see that twenty-dollar bill on the cash register?” Gavin said that he did not. But Gary did not let it go and kept questioning. “The twenty-dollar bill can’t get up and walk away by itself! Surely you must have seen it.” There was accusation (谴责) in Gary’s voice. Tempers began to rise and resentment (愤慨) grew. “I said I didn’t see it!” Gavin replied with anger.
The quarrel separated the young men and they could no longer work together. Later, a wall was built in the center of the store. For twenty years, hostility never ended.

How can you convince(说服)your parents that you are old enough to stay at home alone? Here is some advice.
Be responsible(负责的). Your parents will not let you stay at home alone if you can’t be responsible. Do everything that your parents ask you to do, such as doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, and so on.
Ask to stay at home for a short time. Your parents won’t let you stay at home alone for a long time. However, you can get away with a short time. If you do well at staying at home alone, your parents will think that you are responsible enough to handle(处理)more time.
Do something safe. Explain that you know the basic rules of safety. This is very important. Tell them that you won’t answer the phone unless instructed(指示). Also tell them you won’t leave the house, or open the door for anybody. Your parents will be less worried if they know that you are doing something safe.
Don’t argue. Just listen to what they want to say, and accept it. Be nice, and try to understand their opinion, and they will respect(尊重)your decisions as well.
Try even harder. Try even harder to show that you are responsible. Your parents might notice the difference and change their minds. The harder you try to show that you are responsible, the more likely your parents will agree with you.

Nearly every parent says that we never grow up. In fact, we are maybe 16 or 17 years old. In their eyes, we are always little ones and always do wrong things. For example, when I need to stay at home alone, they always worry about me and my life without them.
Most parents always think that they have offered the best things to make their children live in a comfortable world. They buy their children pretty clothes, cool shoes, strange but expensive school things, and always a thousand-
yuan-cost bike. They think that they have done everything they can do for their dear little children. In return, they only want their little ones to give them good results in the exams.
Although parents have done what they could, their little babies still can’t understand them. Why? Do they still want more material(物质的)things? No! They just want a true family. What does a true family mean? I think in a true family, we can hide ourselves from the outside cold world. From here, we can get warmth, and we can get happiness.
So I think that parents should save their money and sit down to talk with their children. And the child and his parents could understand each other better. Then, no boy will be a little boy any longer. That will be great help to both the parents and their child.
51.We can see the writer of this article is ______ through the first paragraph.
