Admission
Genernal Introduction
In the United States, education is compulsory for all students until age sixteen. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 85% of students graduate from high school. Most high school students graduate at the age of seventeen or eighteen-years-old. A student graduates after he or she has successfully passed all of the required courses. Grades are given to students for each course at the end of each semester. The grading scale is A (excellent), B (above average), C (average), D (below average), and F (failing). A student who fails a required course must take the course again.

American public schools have four basic characteristics in common: they are locally controlled, free from religious influence, coeducational, and publicly supported by taxes
Most college students in the United States are in “public” institutions, and only a minority are in “private” ones.
The oldest, and in some ways the most prestigious, colleges are private, founded partly from endowments, and partly by contributions from business and above all, former students.
