Sick people don’t have to pay to see the doctor, or to stay in hospital, and they only pay part of the cost of their medicines. The bad news is that the NHS is always running out of money. The British government spends even less on health than the American government. And in the USA sick people also have to pay every time they see a doctor. The NHS has been admired and enjoyed by British people since 1946 when it started. The idea then was to look after people “from the cradle t o the grave”. Free medicine was part of the “welfare state”, which gave free education to the young, money to the unemployed, and pensions to the old.Slowly, as the years pass, problems have grown up. Governments are finding that the bills are getting bigger and bigger. In 1982, £14,000 million was spent on health. One reason for this is that there are many more old people now than there were in 1946. Forty percent of NHS money goes to looking after the old. Some people say that the NHS is a luxury Britain can not afford. They want to bring back more private medicine, for which people would pay. Free medicine, they say, should be given only to the poor. Other people, including many doctors, disagree. Everyone, they say, has the right to the same medical help. In a two-part system, the rich would always get the best. This would not be fair. People also disagree about how NHS money should be spent. Should £15,000 be spent on each heart transplant operation, when there are not enough beds for thousands of old people in pain? Should abortions be paid for by the NHS? Should more money bespent on the mentally ill? Shouldn’t doctors and nurses be better paid? The questions go on and on—but so does the NHS. And millions of British people are thankful that it’s there.31. In Britain sick people have to pay some money to__________.A. see a doctorB. stay in a hospitalC. get some medicineD. have an operation32. In Britain more money is spent on health than before because__________.A. more people get illB. there are more old peopleC. medicines become more expensiveD. doctors and nurses are better paid33. Some people want to have more private medicine in Britain becausethey__________.A. don’t trust the NHSB. want better medical treatmentC. don’t think Britain can afford free medicine for allD. believe that everyone has the right to medical help34. What is the biggest problem the NHS is facing?A. Shortage of money.B. Criticisms from the people.C. Arguments about its function.D. Pressure from the government.35. Which of the following is a controversial issue concerning the NHS?A. Whether it’s ne cessary or not to provide beds for old people in pain.B. Whether there should be free medical care for the mentally ill.C. Whether people should ever be cared for from birth to death.D. Whether money should be spent on more critical cases.Questions 36 to 40 are based on the following passage:In some ways the employment interview is like a persuasive speech because the applicant (interviewee) seeks to persuade the employer (interviewer) to employ him or her. Several suggestions might prove helpful to the applicant when he or she is preparing for the actual interview.A job applicant should gather certain types of information before the interview. First, the applicant should know what kind of job he wants and how that job relates to his career objective. It is important that the applicant be able to state why he wishes to work for a particular company. Second, the applicant should seek as much information as possible concerning the company, such as the location, the financial situation of the company, plans for expansion, and company philosophy. Information about most big corporations is available in reference books and periodicals. After gathering information concerning the company, the applicant is ready for the interview. The interviewer’s first impression comes from the interviewee’s appearance. For most interviews, the appropriate dress for a man is a conservative(保守的) dark colored suit with a long sleeve white or light blue shirt and conservative tie.Although hairstyle and dress are matters of personal taste, many personnel directors get first impressions from these characteristics. For example, one recent college graduate, who felt himself qualified, interviewed for a public relations job. However, the personnel manager considered this youn g man’s long hair, sloppy dress, and overly casual manner unsuited for this particular position.36. For whom is the passage most likely written?A. An employee. C. An interviewee.B. An employer. D. An interviewer.37. As the author suggests, what the applicant should know before the interview is_____.A .the type of work he wants and his career expectationB. his career objective a particular company will decideC. the reasons why a particular company wants to employ himD. all of the above38. What the applicant wears, as the author suggests, can make him become _____.A. expressive C. informativeB. impressive D. conservative40. What does the passage tell us through the example in the last paragraph?A. The importance of personal taste.B. The importance of public relations.C. The importance of self-confidence.D. The importance of a first impression.Section BDirections:In this section there is a short passage with five questions or incomplete statements. Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions orcomplete the statements with no more than 10 words.Questions 41-45 are based on the following passage.I am not a computer expert. I have been in the field for only a short time. I neverlearned much in the way of science or math. And I am quite puzzled by things like engineering or electronics. Then why am I able to write about computers? I can write on this subject because of these shortcomings. The last two years of learning have been an ordeal (考验) for me. By hard work I have managed to learn enough to use computers fairly well, and to work with people who know a great deal more than I. Since I have learned all this at such personal cost, I would like to share my knowledge with others. More and more people want to know about computers, and want to know quickly. The best way to learn is to take a course. However, many people do not have the time for this. They will have to find some other ways to get some basic information. I hope to be able to help them by writing about some of the things I have learned myself.I have a home computer on which I’ve learned in my own time. I have used it like a home study course. I have sat down with it day after day, night after night. I have forced it to give up some of its secrets. Now I can use it to do some of the work that I get paid for. Some things about computers are easier than you may think. First, computers are logical. Things that at first seem difficult will make sense to you after you learn the rules. Second, it is really not hard to learn enough to use today’s machines. Y ou do not need to be a great brain. But you do have to learn to think in new ways. And you do have to keep a good bit of information in your head. Finally, there are many people around who are really enthusiastic about computers. These people are always happy to be of help.41. What are the subjects the author is poor at?____________ ___________ _________ _________ ___________ __________ __________ __________ __________ ________.42. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the article?____________ ___________ _________ _________ ___________ ____________________ __________ __________ ________.43. What do people think of computers when they first begin to learn to use them?____________ ___________ _________ _________ ___________ __________ __________ __________ __________ ________.44. 英语一级口语考试真题

英语一级口语考试真题The English Level One speaking exam is a crucial milestone for language learners, marking the transition from basic communication skills to a more fluent and confident level of expression. As students prepare for this exam, it's essential to understand the format, content, and strategies that can help them achieve success.**Exam Format and Content**The Level One speaking exam typically consists of three main sections: an introduction, a short conversation, and a longer, more structured discussion. In the introduction, students are often asked to present themselves, their interests, or their reasons for learning English. The conversation section often involves a simple dialogue between the student and the examiner, focusing on topics such as daily life, family, or school. The final section, the discussion, requires students to speak more extemporaneously on a given topic, demonstrating their ability to organize ideas, use vocabulary, and speak fluently.**Strategies for Success**To excel in the Level One speaking exam, students should follow several key strategies. First, they should focus on building a strong foundation of basic vocabulary and grammar. This will enable them to communicate more effectively and confidently. Second, they should practice speaking regularly, in both structured and unstructured settings. This will help them become more comfortable with the language and more confident in their ability to express themselves.Third, students should prepare for the exam by familiarizing themselves with common topics and questions. They can do this by reviewing sample exams, practicing with a partner, or even role-playing scenarios with a teacher or friend. By anticipating potential questions and practicing their responses, students will feel more prepared and less anxious on the day of the exam. Finally, students should remember to stay calm and confident during the exam. They should take their time to think through their answers, use clear and coherent language, and avoid getting flustered or overwhelmed. Bystaying focused and positive, they can demonstrate their language skills to the best of their ability.**Conclusion**Preparing for the English Level One speaking exam requires a combination of hard work, strategy, and confidence. By building a strong foundation of vocabulary and grammar, practicing regularly, preparing for common topics and questions, and staying calm and confident during the exam, students can achieve success and move forward in their language learning journey. He was content to go as far as he could. In the23years of our friendship,I never saw him show jealousy,v anity, bitterness, anger, resentment,or personal ambition. He seemed immune to these emotions. He was beyond any pretension.Alt hough he corresponded with many of the world's most important people, his stationery carried only a watermark -W-for Woolworth's.Paragraph FourSchool children used to know the story of how Abraham Lincoln walked five miles to return a penny he'd ove rcharged a customer. It's the kind of story we think of as myth. But in the case of Lincoln, the story is tr ue…unlike the story ofGeorge Washington and the cherry tree.Washington's firstbiographer invented the tale of little George saying to his father,"Icannot tell a lie.I did it with my ax."What is important in both stories, however,is that hone sty was seen as an important part of the American character.Paragraph FivePraise is like sunlight to the human spirit;we cannot flower and grow without it.And yet, while most of u s are only too ready to apply to others the cold wind of criticism,we are somehow reluctant to give our fellows the warm sunshine of praise.Why-when one word can bring such pleasure?A friend of mine who travels widely always tries to le arn a little of the language of any place she visits. She's not much of a linguist, but she does know how to say one word -"beautiful"-in several languages. She can use it to a mother holding her baby,or to lonely salesman f ishing out pictures of hisfamily. The ability has earned her friends all over the world.Paragraph SixDo not treat all new words in exactly the same way. Have you ever complained about your memory because you find it simply impossible to memorize all the new words you are learning? But, in fact, it is not your memory that is at fault. If you cram your head with too many new words at a time, some of them are bound to be crowded out. What you need to do is to deal with new words in different ways according to how frequently they occur in everyday use. While active words demand constant practice and useful words must be committed to memory, words that do not often occur in everyday situations require just a nodding acquaintance. You will find concentrating on active and useful words the most effective route to enlarge your vocabulary.Paragraph SevenThe old lady was eight today. She had put on her best dress.Perhaps--perhaps Myraight come. After all, eighty was a special birthday, another decade lined or enduredjust as you chose to look at it.Even if Myra did not come, she would send a present. The old lady was sure of that. Two spots of colour brig htened her cheeks. She was excited--like a child. She would enjoy her day.Paragraph EightLet us take a serious, reasonable look at what the results be if such aproposal were accepted.Families mi ght use the time for a real family hour.Without the distraction of TV,they might sit around together after dinnerand actually talk to one another. It is well known that many of ourproblems--everything,in fact, from the g eneration gap to the highdivorcerate to some forms of mental illness--are caused at least in part by failureto communicate. We do not tell each other what is disturbing us.The resultis emotional difficulty of one kind or another.By u sing the quiet family hourtodiscuss our problems,we might get to know each other better, and tolike each other better.Paragraph NineAfter graduation I returned home to my small town in Indiana.I didn't havea job yet.Mr.Hobbs,a friend o f my father's,owned a small shirt factory intown.Within the past five years it had grown from twenty to e ightyworkers.Mr.Hobbs was worried that his plant was getting too big andinefficient,so he asked me to come in on a short-term ba sis as a consultant.Paragraph TenThere was great excitement on the planet ofVenus this week. For the first time Venusian scientists managed to land asatellite on the plant Earth, and is has been sending back signals as well asphotographs ever since. The satellite was intoan area know as Manhattan(named after thegreat Venusian astronomer Prof.Manhattan, who first discovere d it with histelescope20,000light years ago).Because of excellent weather conditions and extremely strong signa ls,Venusian scientists were able to get valuable information as to the feasibilityof a manned flying saucer landing o n Earth.A press conference was held atthe Venus Institute of Technology.。

Student B, the doctor, will offer some tips.段落朗读部分Paragraph OneJefferson's courage and idealism were based on knowledge. He probably knew more than any other man of his age. He was an expert in agriculture, archeology, and medicine. He practiced crop rotation and soil conservation a century before these became standard practice, and he invented a plow superior to any other in existence. He influenced architecture throughout America, and he was constantly producing devices for making the tasks of ordinary life easier to perform. Of all Jefferson's many talents, one is central. He was above all a good and tireless writer. His complete works, now being published for the first time, will fill more than fifty volumes. His talent as an author was soon discovered, and when the time came to write the Declaration of Independence at Philadelphia in 1776, the task of writing it was his. Millions have thrilled to his words: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…"Paragraph TwoWhile I was waiting to enter university, I saw advertised in a local newspaper a teaching post at a school in a suburb of London about ten miles from where I lived. Being very short money and wanting to do something useful, I applied, fearing as I did so, that without a degree and with no experience in teaching my chances of getting the job were slim. However, three days later a letter arrived, asking me to go to Croydon for an interview. It proved an awkward journey: a train to Croydon station; a ten-minute bus ride and then a walk of at least a quarter to feel nervous.Paragraph ThreeAs boy and then as an adult, I never lost my wonder at the personality that was Einstein. He was the only person I kne w who had come to terms with himself and the world around him. He knew what he wanted and he wanted only this: to understand within his limits as a human being the nature of the universe and the logic and simplicity in itsfunctioning. He knew there were answers beyond his intellectual reach. But this did not frustrate him. He was content to go as far as he could. In the 23 years of our friendship, I never saw him show jealousy, vanity, bitterness, anger, resentment, or personal ambition. He seemed immune to these emotions. He was beyond any pretension. Although he corresponded with many of the world's most important people, his stationery carried only a watermark - W - for Woolworth's.Paragraph FourSchool children used to know the story of how Abraham Lincoln walked five miles to return a penny he'd overcharged a customer. It's the kind of story we think of as myth. But in the case of Lincoln, the story is true … unlike the story of George Washington and the cherry tree. Washington's first biographer invented the tale of little George saying to his father, "Icannot tell a lie. I did it with my ax." What is important in both stories, however, is that honesty was seen as an important part of the American character.Paragraph FivePraise is like sunlight to the human spirit; we cannot flower and grow without it. And yet, while most of us are only too ready to apply to others the cold wind of criticism, we are somehow reluctant to give our fellows the warm sunshine of praise. Why - when one word can bring such pleasure? A friend of mine who travels widely always tries to learn a little of the language of any place she visits. She's not much of a linguist, but she does know how to say one word - "beautiful " - in several languages. She can use it to a mother holding her baby, or to lonely salesman fishing out pictures of hisfamily. The ability has earned her friends all over the world.Paragraph SixD o not treat all new words in exactly the same way. She had put on her best dress. Perhaps--perhaps Myraight come. After all, eighty was a special birthday, another decade lined or endured just as you chose to look at it. Even if Myra did not come, she would send a present. The old lady was sure of that. Two spots of colour brightened her cheeks. She was excited--like a child. She would enjoy her day.Paragraph EightLet us take a serious, reasonable look at what the results be if such aproposal were accepted. Families might use thetime for a real family hour.Without the distraction of TV, they might sit around together after dinnerand actually talk to one another. It is well known that many of ourproblems -- everything, in fact, from the generation gap to the highdivorcerate to some forms of mental illness -- are caused at least in part by failureto communicate. We do not tell each other what is disturbing us. The resultis emotional difficulty of one kind or another. By using the quiet family hourtodiscuss our problems, we might get to know each other better, and tolike each other better.Paragraph NineAfter graduation I returned home to my small town in Indiana. I didn't havea job yet. Mr. Hobbs, a friend of my father's, owned a small shirt factory intown. Within the past five years it had grown from twenty to eightyworkers. Mr. Hobbs was worried that his plant was getting too big andinefficient, so he asked me to come in on a short-term basis as a consultant.Paragraph TenThere was great excitement on the planet of Venus this week. For the first time Venusian scientists managed to land as atellite on the plant Earth, and is has been sending back signals as well as photographs ever since. The satellite was intoan area know as Manhattan(named after thegreat Venusian astronomer Prof. Manhattan, who first discovered it with histelescope 20,000 light years ago).Because of excellent weather conditions and extremely strong signals,Venusianscientists were able to get valuable information as to the feasibilityof a manned flying saucer landing on Earth. A press conference was held atthe Venus Institute of Technology.。
