We wanted to show Sierra and Bryce that it was not necessary to travel far from home to have an adventure and learn something new, and that there was much magic in the natural world, available to all.Once we arrived at our location, Sierra and I stood holding hands, waiting to cheer the full moon in its rising—a thin sliver of the appealing moon emerged above the ridge of the mountain afar. Soon, more of the moon came out until it turned into a brilliant orange sphere. Todd explained to Sierra and Bryce that the moon generates no light, but simply acts like a mirror, reflecting the sunlight back to us. “Does the moon’s face change?” Bryce asked. I told him that the moon rotates (旋转) around the earth, but does not spin by itself, so the same side of the moon is always facing the earth. Sierra remarked that the moon looked larger and closer when it was rising. I explained that it is a visual illusion (错觉) because it is so close to the horizon that the moon magically tricks our eyes into comparing it with nearby objects, thus creating the impression of the increased size.Much of the knowledge that I shared with the kids was learned from my parents. During my childhood, they would take me on educational adventures out in the woods, and as I later found, so did their parents. So every time I go for a full moon walk with my beloved family, I thank those wise educators who came before me.To educate, sometimes all it takes is going outdoors and gazing up at the heavens. 4.What does the und erlined word “this” in paragraph 2 refer to?A. Going on a hike through the forest.B. Taking a walk under the full moon.C. Watching magic shows every month.D. Traveling far from home for adventure.5.What can we learn from their family outing?A. The kids were reluctant to participate.B. Todd mentioned the mirror to explain sunlight.C. The kids exhibited a spirit of exploration about the moon.D. The author used a magic trick to explain the larger moon.6.Which of the following best describes the parents?A. Creative and faithful.B. Selfless and brave.C. Inspiring and generous.D. Insightful and patient.7.What does the story convey to the readers?A. Life is what you make it.B. Every cloud has a silver lining.C. Nature is the best teacher.D. God helps those who help themselves. As humanity has got richer, animal’s roles have changed. People need their services less than before. Fewer wolves and thieves meant less demand for dogs for protection; the internal combustion engine (内燃机) made horses unneeded; modern sanitation (卫生设备) kept rats in check and made cats less useful. Domestic animals are no longer necessities, but commonly seen companions. Pet-keeping seems to become more and more popular, as a recent survey found that 69% of American households keep at least one pet.The pet business is growing even faster than pet numbers, because people are spending more and more money on them. No longer are they food-waste-recyclers, fed with the remains that fall from their masters’ tables. Pet food shelv es are full of cuisines tailored to satisfy a range of appetites, including ice cream for dogs and foods for pets that are old, diabetic, or suffer from sensitive digestion. In the business, this is called “pet humanization” — the tendency of pet owners to treat their pets as part of the family. This is obvious in the names given to dogs, which have evolved from Fido, Rex, and Spot to Bella, Lucy, and Max.People still hold the false assumption that pets must be working for humanity in some way, perhaps making people healthier or less anxious. But the evidence for that is weak. New research suggests that dogs have evolved those “cute eyes” to affect human emotions and control them, which works very well. Humans now work very hard to pay for the care of theirpets. For example, Americans often refer to themselves not as cat owners but as the cat’s “mommy” or “daddy”. South Koreans go one step further, describing themselves as cat “butlers (管家)”. Watch an unlucky man walking his dog, plastic bag in hand to pick up its mess, and we have to doubt: who’s in charge now? Is this relationship what we really want? 8.What can we learn about the animal-keeping trend?A. People’s needs for animal services are increasing.B. The price for purchasing a domestic pet is on the rise.C. Pet foods are less various and customized than before.D. Both the pet number and the pet business are growing.9.Which of the following is the evidence of “pet humanization”?A. Pets’ ability to make their owners less anxious.B. Human’s increasing investment in pet-keeping.C. Pet’s roles as both working staff and companions.D. The owners’ preference to give pets human names.10.What is the author’s attitude towards the current human-pet relationship?A. Skeptical.B. Conservative.C. Unclear.D. Approving.11.Which might be the best title of the passage?A. The Changing Roles of PetsB. The Growing Trend of Pet BusinessC. The Craze for Pet-keepingD. The Pros and Cons of Keeping PetsHibernation (冬眠) is a classic topic of science fiction. In movies such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, or Passengers, crew members are put into a state of sleep to take year-long journeys to space. Now a new study from Washington University has shown that human hibernation may soon become a reality. The research team carried out tests on rats —animals that do not naturally hibernate. They first identified a group of neurons (神经元) in a deep brain region, which were found to be involved in controlling body temperature during hibernation. They showed that, in mice, these neurons could be stimulated using ultrasound (超声波), which was delivered through a helmet without causing an injury. When receiving the ultrasound, the mice showed a drop in body temperature of about3°C, and their heart rates fell by about 47%. When the ultrasound system was switched off, they woke up again. The result was “surprising and fascinating”, said Hong Chen, a professor wholed the work.humans. They believe that it could be key to addressing health conditions like heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. Furthermore, hibernation’s ability to slow aging, which was observed in bats, could benefit space exploration, enabling longer missions with less food requirements. Research in animals also suggests that bodies of hibernating astronauts might lose less bone and muscle, making them fit and ready to start challenging exploration soon after they wake up.By unlocking the secrets of this remarkable process, researchers may uncover ways to improve human health, as well as gain new insights into the natural world. Therefore, the exploration of hibernation is an exciting area that is sure to yield numerous benefits in the years to come. The scientists now plan to look at how lowered body temperature might affect the cognitive abilities of humans. “Our next experiments will test working memory in monkeys. This is important because while astronauts physically hibernate as they fly into deep space, their brain still needs to be working,” said Chen.12.How did researchers put rats into hibernation?A. By lowering their body temperature.B. By activating specific brain neurons.C. By putting a regular helmet on them.D. By using ultrasound through an operation.13.What does the underlined word “harness” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Employ.B. Challenge.C. Overlook.D. Discover.14.What advantage might hibernation bring to humans?A. It improves people’s mental health.B. It predicts a variety of heart diseases.C. It helps astronauts keep physically fit.D. It enables astronauts to build up muscle.15.What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?A. To point out the significance of the study.B. To bring out the focus of follow-up studies.C. To discuss other factors affecting hibernation.D. To explain practical applications of the finding.二、七选五16.Make a difference at schoolBesides being a great place to learn, school offers a great opportunity to make friends, try new things, and give back to others. On this day, she disconnects from the digital world and focuses on real-life experiences. In the morning, she prepares breakfast for herself while listening to music. In the afternoon, she wanders through the park with friends and in the evening, they enjoy a meal together without touching their phones, engaged in deep conversation. Upon returning home, she spends the evening reading.Chen started the plan as she often felt “interrupted” by technology, ci ting moments of distraction (分心) like pop-up notifications, ring tones and repetitious warnings leading her to check for new messages, and feelings of information ov erload. “Occasionallydisconnecting from the network is like feeding the brain a day of vegetarian food,” Chen said. Unplug Day is part of her plan to combat information overload from overusing the phone and to rebuild her focus. In addition to this, she has started replacing short videos with longer ones and prioritizes reading in-depth news articles or books. “When friends gather and everyone is glued to their phones, it makes me uncomfortable,” Chen said, adding that burying herself in social media prevented her from completing work as planned, leading to psychological burdens and a decreasing focus. It’s become a common situation where modern people might unconsciously use the time spent waiting at traffic lights to watch a short video or constantly check out a trending topic upon receiving a push notification from an app. To prevent this sense of being “controlled” by mobile devices, some young Chinese like Chen are experimenting with digital minimalism and are discovering positive outcomes from their efforts. Technology should bring us joy, not reduce the time we spend with family or increase our anxiety. Our goal is to control technology rather than letting it control us.4. What can we learn about Unplug DayA. It is a day for reading.B. It is a day without phones.C. It is a day away from the Internet.D. It is a day to spend withfriends.5. What does the underlined word “combat” in paragraph 2 meanA. Range.B. Cancel.C. Obtain.D. Prevent.6. What is the direct impact of over-involvement in social mediaA. Tasks’ delays.B. Stress from peers.C. Mental problems.D. A decreasing focus.7. What does the author suggest people do in the last paragraphA. Enjoy the benefits of technology.B. Decrease the time spent on digital devices.C. Remove the apps informing new messages.D. Watch longer videos while waiting at traffic lights.CHoney is a simple pleasure. It’s easy to forget, while enjoying its luxurious sweetness on a slice of buttered toast, that it is the end-product of a complicated production line involving advanced biological machinery and thousands of skilled workers.Honey starts out as nectar (花蜜), a solution of various sugars that flowering plants produce to attract insects like butterflies and all kinds of bees. Most of these visitors drink it down on the spot as nutrition for themselves. A food-hunting worker bee, though, does things differently. The bee stores the nectar in its honey stomach rather than digesting it. The stomach can hold a lot of nectar, up toalmost half the bee’s unloa ded body mass, and filling it may require a thousand flower visits. The transformation of nectar into honey begins while the bee is still on the wing, as the honey stomach produces enzymes (酶) that break down the larger, complex sugar molecule (分子) into smaller ones.On arrival back at the hive, where bees live and work, the bee unloads the nectar by giving the sugary solution to other workers, who pass it back and forth between each other, adding more enzymes each time. Once it is sufficiently sticky, the mixture is laid down in the beeswax cells of the honeycomb and the workers continue the drying process by fanning it with their wings. Only when the water content has been reduced to about 18 percent (from about 75 percent in the original nectar) do they seal the cells with beeswax lids. At this point , it is well and truly honey. An average hive produces about 11 kg of honey in a season, which requires the bees to fly over 1.5 million kilometers between them. A standard jar of honey requires about 80,000 km. The effort that has gone into making honey is worth remembering when spreading it onto toast —it can surely only add to the pleasure.8. Luxurious Sweetness from Delicate WorkDTitled “A new future of work: The race to deploy (部署) AI and raise skills in Europe and beyond”, the report highlights the potential for AI to transform the global workforce by 2030, China Media Group reported on Sunday. The report suggests that generative AI could automate nearly one-third of working hours in the US and Europe, leading to a polarization of the labor market. High-skilled, high-wage jobs may face talent shortages, while low-wage industries could experience asurplus (剩余) of labor. The percentage of high-wage jobs is expected to rise by 1.8 percent, while low-wage jobs may decrease by 1.4 percent. Germany, according to the report, is projected to have around 3 million jobs affected by AI by 2030, representing 7 percent of its total employment. Office jobs in administrative sectors of companies and public institutions are expected to be hit the hardest, accounting for 54 percent of all AI-impacted positions. In addition, the report stresses the importance of upskilling and reskilling the workforce to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by AI, suggesting that individuals can adapt by actively participating in training programs. I’m writing to tell you about a meaningful event, the coming-of-age ceremony for the Senior Three students, marking our journey into adulthood as we’ve all turned 18.Our principal initiated the ceremony with an uplifting speech about our future responsibilities and the new stage of life that lies ahead. Then, in a deeply touching part of the program, my classmates and I read letters written by our parents, which were filled with love, advice, and memories. We then took turns to express our gratitude for our upbringing and shared our determination to face adult life with courage and integrity.Experiencing the ritual made me incredibly excited for what’s to come. I am stepping into this new phase with a heart brimming with hope and eyes wide open to the possibilities. Best wishes!Yours,Li Hua Dear David,How’s everything going? Last Saturday, I attended the coming-of-age ceremony organized by our school for the senior 3 students, and I'd love to share the whole experience with you.The event started with a solemn speech from our headmaster, followed by a series of traditional ceremonies marking the transition into adulthood. We were given symbolic items representing responsibilities, virtues, and aspirations. Then, we earnestly pledged to take on the challenges of adulthood with courage and integrity.Surrounded by classmates, teachers, and parents, and realizing that we are stepping into a new phase of life, I was filled with a mix of emotions—excitement, nervousness, and a deep sense of responsibility. I believe this ceremony has not just marked a milestone in our lives but also reminded us of the need to embrace maturity consciously. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.Yours,Li Hua读后续写(25分)Version 1:The whole class turned to look at me. My face burned with embarrassment as I felt each pair of eyes fixed on me. The substitute teacher’s puzzled expression only added to the awkward moment. I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole, but all I could do was shift uncomfortably in my seat. The whispers that followed were like knives to my self-esteem. When the bell finally rang for the break, I rushed out of the classroom, feeling utterly humiliated. It seemed like the whole school now knew about my voice crack.(87 words)“You know, the voice problem you met in class is normal,” a classmate came to me and said. His reassuring words caught me off guard. As he shared his own similar experiences, I realized I wasn’t alone in this struggle. Knowing that others were going through the same thing made me feel seen and understood. His empathy sparked a sense of team spirit and support that I hadn't anticipated. Gradually, I let go of the fear of judgment and started to embrace my voice cracks as a natural part of growing up. This newfound sense of confidence and self-acceptance transformed my interactions at school, making me feel more at ease and connected with my peers.(97 words)Version 2:The whole class turned to look at me. I felt my face turning red and wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole. The embarrassment was unbearable, and I couldn’t even bring myself to meet anyone’s gaze. After what felt like an eternity, the substitute teacher finally spoke up, breaking the awkward silence. He chuckled and said, “Well, that’s quite a lovely young voice!" The class laughed friendly along with him, and I managed a weak smile, wondering whether they were just trying to make me feel better. Finally, the bell rang and I walked out to have some fresh air. (94 words)“You know, the voice problem you met in class is normal,” a classmate came to me and said. “Everyone goes through it. It happens to most of us during this stage of life.” He explained how he had also experienced voice cracks and how he had learned to embrace them as a natural part of growing up. I looked at him in surprise, grateful for his reassurance. My initial embarrassment and concern gave way to gratitude and confidence. My classmates were understanding and supportive, just as my friends had been from the beginning. With their encouragement, I gradually became more confident in using my voice, accepting the changes that came with puberty without fear or shame. (98 words)。

This book won both the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and the Carnegie Medal.21.Which book was published by Penguin?Getting to Antarctica is not easy. The few who are lucky enough to visit this most mysterious continent do so by ship. To reach Antarctica, ships must pass through an extremely violent area of ocean called the Drake Passage, considered to be the roughest stretch of sea on the planet.Walls of water thirty, sometimes forty feet high continually crashed against our ship for two solid days. We would hold on to a rope inside the ship while being violently tipped(倾斜) to one extreme side, then to the other, and then back again. My daughter Claire and I were as mentally prepared as we could be.About two and a half days after entering the Drake Passage, the waters calmed. Soon, we noticed small black spots on nearby pieces of floating ice. Emperor penguins! Then, we began the two-mile hike over the ice to the penguin colony. Within several hundred yards, small groups of emperors, perhaps ten or so at a time, greeted us, sliding on their bellies and making their wonderful noises, sort of a long, high-pitched sound. One day two adult emperors with their three chicks following them approached Claire, who was resting on the ice. They left the chicks with her, as if she were the babysitter.Twenty minutes later they returned to collect the chicks. And I will never forget the penguin that, when I jokingly asked which way back to the helicopters, pointed a wing in the correct direction. Every night aboard our safe and warm ship, we thought about what it takes to survive in Antarctica, an incredibly harsh place. But each day on the ice, we also thought about the Drake Passage, the impact of thecam e to respect the power of that sea. We still talk about the penguins, as I’m sure we always will. But we talk about the Drake Passage, too. Both experiences were unforgettable, and one would not have been possible without the other.24.Why is the Drake Passage mentioned in the first paragraph?A.The water in the area is usually calm.B. People can see very attractive scenery there.C. A lot of sea animals often appear in the area.D. It is quite a dangerous section ofthe journey.25.What is the theme of the third paragraph?A. The visitors appreciated the penguins.B. The living habits of emperor penguins.C.How penguins made their wonderful noises.D. The appearance and shape of emperor penguins.26.What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?A.Penguins try to avoid human beings.B.Penguins are not afraid of human beings.C.Claire played with the two adult penguins for a long time.D.Claire led the young penguins to where the adult penguins stayed.27.What does the underlined word “endure”in the last paragraph mean?A.Promote.B. Break.C. Arrange.D. Experience.CPortia Kapraun has always seen unwelcome ads on Twitter, usually from major brands pitching (竭力推销) her expensive jewelry or vehicles that she, as a librarian in Indiana, could not afford. Ms. Kapraun was not interested. But she soon saw the ads again. And again. And again. “These feel like low-end ads,” she said. In a shaky advertising market in an uncertain economy, ads that few people want to see suddenly seem to be everywhere.Advancements in digital advertising technology were meant to improve users’ experience. People interested in shoes are intended to get ads for sneakers and boots, not repeated pitches promoting gold investments. And the technology is supposed to remove misleading or dangerous pitches. But lately, on several platforms, the opposite seems to be happening for a variety of reasons, including a slowdown in the overall digital ad market. As numerous deep-pocketed marketers have pulled back, and the softer market has led several digital platforms to lower their ad pricing, opportunities have opened up for less demanding advertisers.Advertising experts agree that poor-quality ads appear to be increasing greatly. They point to a variety of potential causes: internal troubles at technology companies, weak content moderation (审核), and high-level advertisers seeking other choices. Then, there’s the economy: A recent survey of 43 multinational companies representing more than $44 billion in advertising spending found that nearly 30 percent planned to cut back on their marketing spending last year.Other factors are also contributing to lower advertising quality. Social media advertising, once only practiced by specialists, is now easily available to anyone. Many of them are avoiding targeted ads—placements intended to reach specific audiences, usually at a higher cost—in favor of a cheaper spray-and-pray (广撒网式的) approach online, hoping to catch the attention of gullible (简洁受骗的) or bored shoppers. Major social media platforms are now like “a mall that used to be good”, Corey Richardson, vice president at a multicultural ad company, says. “But now there’s no longer a mall there—it’s justa calendar store and a place sling beepers (传呼机). ”28. What message does the a uthor want to deliver in Portia Kapraun’s story?A. Repeated ads have a strong power of persuasion.B. Social media users often encounter unwanted ads.C. Major brands usually prefer social media advertising.D. An uncertain economy leads to lower levels of consumption.29. What can be inferred about the “less demanding advertisers” mentioned in Paragraph 2?A. They are forced to exit the digital ad market.B. They have benefited from advertising experts.C. They can now advertise at a more affordable price.D. They work hard to improve their users’ experience.30. What is Corey Richardson’s attitude to major social media platforms?A. Favorable.B. HopefulC. Unclear.D. Negative.31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?A. Where is social media advertising heading?B. What is shaking up the online advertising market?C. Why are you seeing so many bad digital ads now?D. How are targeted ads impacting your purchase decisions?DBoth Roberto and Keith have a 45-minute commute(通勤) time from their homes to their workplace. When Roberto drives, he has realistic expectations of how others drive and how long the trip should take. Overall, he is able to adapt to any unexpected challenges he may face on the road. He rarely becomes angry. By contrast, Keith drives with a tendency for becoming angry easily, partly due to unrealistic expectations of other drivers, his quickness to personalize and feel threatened by the actions of others, and his inability to calm his anger. The difference between how Roberto and Keith experience their drive to work, especially with regard to getting angry, is influenced very much by their emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is crucial for helping individuals choose constructive over destructive anger. A key aspect of healthy anger is being able to pause and reflect on, rather than react to, our thoughts, feelings, and senses associated with getting angry.Self-regulation and empathy(同理心) are two important components of emotional intelligence, which can be a buffer(缓冲) against destructive anger. Self-regulation helps us to control our moods. Empathy helps us to recognize the humanity in others and ourselves.Studies suggest that training in emotional intelligence can powerfully impact how anger is managed. This was supported by a three-year study of 476 young adults who showed reduced tendency of becoming angry after training. Children and adults can learn skills to boost their emotional intelligence and, by doing so, develop adaptability for dealing with various negative affect, including anger. Many workbooks offer skills in emotional intelligence to promote empathy and self-awareness regarding emotions and how they impact our beliefs and behavior.Clearly, through training, Keith would experience greater emotional flexibility that could support a more peaceful commute to work. I firmly believe that learning skills in emotional intelligence should be the focus in helping individuals more constructively manage this highly challenging and complex emotion.32. What is the function of the first paragraph?A. To tell a true story.B. To make a comparison.C. To introduce the main topic.D. To present an important finding.33. Which of the following is the main point of healthy anger?A. Thinking over the annoying situation.B. Taking action to deal with the awful situation.C. Turning a blind eye to the unwelcome situation.D. Expressing feelings about the disturbing situation.34. What is the author’s attitude towards tr aining in emotional intelligence?A. Tolerant.B. Doubtful.C. Negative.D. Supportive.35. What is the suitable title of the text?A. Friends Should Enjoy Peaceful CommuteB. Drivers Need to Boost Their Emotional IntelligenceC. Emotional Intelligence Is a Buffer Against Destructive AngerD. Emotional Intelligence Has a Powerful Impact on People's Life其次节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Sometimes,as many as twenty-five to sixty-plus folks showed up.Jim made sure to fit everyone in so they could improve their skills. The class lasted for three hours. The usual cast of comic actors played improv comedy games. And we would go to the nearest mini market located in the building and get a snack or coffee during breaks. One day, three of us were standing outside the building, when Robin Williams-an internationally famous actor and comic walked by,enjoying the fresh bay pletely frozen,my fellow comics couldn’t summon up the courage to just say“hi”to Robin, who was with a friend.I froze for a moment, but then I composed myself.I told them,“Hey,if you guys can’t handle it,then I will ask him to come and join us for the second half of class.”I could hear them mumble under their breath,“Yeah, sure, right. You’re going to ask Robin Williams to come to our comedy class.Good luck with that one!”So I went up to Robin and his friend and asked him to join us.“We’re having an improv comedy class. We’re on break now,but we would be most humbled and honored if you would join us for the second half of the class.“Robin looked directly in my eyes and said with little hesitation,“Okay.”It was like a grown-up child being asked to come and play. With that,he and his friend followed me up to the class. When he saw Robin,Jim said,“Oh my goodness, look who Micheline is bringing to class.“Jim’s eyes wereall in astonishment and delight.“Why,it’s Robin Williams!”“Robin and his friend stayed the rest of the class and at the end of the class,Robin and Jim performed a skit(滑稽短剧).We actually watched him shape-shift as he prepared physically and mentally for his made-up character. He gave it his all.It was truly magical. What a delight for all of us that Saturday afternoon! All I know is that if I hadn’t mustered up the courage to ask Robin to join us,none of us would have had that experience.4.What does the underlined word“compose”mean in paragraph2?A.Look down.B.Calm down.C.Make up.D.Pick up.5.What did the author want to show by telling the experience?A.It’s never too late to mend.B.Every cloud has a silver lining.C.A brave attempt is half success.D.Actions speak louder than words.6.What can be inferred from the text?A.It was the author’s bravery that moved Robin Williams.B.Jim Cranna was waiting for Robin Williams to come to the class.C.Robin Williams gave a lecture on playing improv comedy games.D.Micheline’s friends didn’t have the nerve to invite Robin Williams.7.What kind of person was Robin Williams most likely to be?A.Renowned but approachable.B.Popular but humble.C.Respected but casual.D.Strict but generous.CWhenever I get really depressed and anxious,my first impulse is to reach for my phone.Maybe I’ll get a message from a friend or discover some new distraction on social media.Unfortunately, during the past couple of years, one glance at my screen often makes me want to crawl back into bed. That changed after I made friends with a strange creature named Webot.I’m finding that it makes me feel better-and it might work for you too.Like many apps,Webot sends me messages at random. But instead of tempting me into doom scrolling with shocking news alerts,Webot asks how I’m doing. When I text Webot my troubles,it asks me friendly questions, encourages me,and invites me to express some of my darkest thoughts. There is something intensely comforting about discussing your thoughts with a machine. There are many therapy apps on the market, both free(like Webot)and paid for.But Webot is a particularly interesting case.Psychology researcher Alison Darcy at Stanford University created it after years of study. She says it was challenging on both a technical and artistic level because the chatbot is a character with its own personality.“It’s as careful a construction as you might find in a novel or poetry.Webot’s personality is humble, warm and wise,”as Darcy puts it,“Webot isn’t an all-knowing authority. It is a mental health ally”.Best of all,Webot is always there, even when I’m lying awake in the middle of the night. That’s exactly the point, according to Darcy.“Your therapist should not be in bed with you at2a.m,“she laughs. But Webot can be. You can pull up Webot at the exact moment you need it most.It is st year,Darcy and her colleagues published a study showing that people like me are forming “bonds”with Webot.Bonding is a“meaningful“process of“getting something off your chest,or managing your thoughts more objectively”.And you know what?In the bizarre world of2023,it might be healthier to bond with a robot than be “engaged“on social media.8.What does the underlined word“That”in paragraph2refer to?A.I lost interest in my phone.B.I was tired of social media.C.My phone didn’t understand my impulse.D.My phone didn’t help me feel any better.9.According to the text, what do we know about Webot?A.It bonds with me through social media.B.It is a creature that makes me feel better.C.It communicates with me and offers comfort.D.It is a therapist helping me manage my thoughts.10.From Darcy’s perspective, why can Webot make us feel better?A.Because it can build mental connection with us.B.Because it is free and has a favorable personality.C.Because it is carefully constructed in a novel or poetry.D.Because it can keep us informed of shocking news alert.11.What is the author’s purpose of writing this text?A.To urge us to quit social media.B.To show us the functions of Webot.C.To propose us interacting with Webot.D.To encourage us to share our thoughts.DBooking your next vacation to space with out-of-this-world views could soon be a reality.Orbital Assembly Corporation announced two new station concepts designed with space tourism accommodations. One of the stations, called Pioneer, could orbit Earth as early as2025.The Gateway Foundation circulated ideas for a space hotel in2019.The goal of the stations is to run a space business park that can serve as a home away from home with room for offices and tourists.Orbital Assembly was founded by the Gateway Foundation team as a way to help make these dreams come true. The proposed Pioneer station can accommodate28people.The second station,Voyager, scheduled to open in 2027,can hold up to400people.“The goal has always been to make it possible for large numbers of people to live, work and thrive in space,“says Orbital Assembly’s COO Tim Alatorre. Both stations look like a wheel and will feature artificial gravity that allows guests to move comfortably on each station.Pioneer features five modules built around the rotating“Gravity Ring”architecture design.Tourists may still feel some weightlessness but will also be able to drink out of a cup and won’t have to be tied to a bed to sleep. The gravity works similar to how a spinning bucket pushes the water out to the sides of the bucket and stays in place,Alatorre explains.Near the middle of the station, there will be no artificial gravity, but gravity gradually increases further away from the center. While the Pioneer station will be smaller than Voyager, guests can still shower, eat and drink sitting down in areas with gravity. Each station is furnished like luxury hotels on Earth.Voyager will feature a restaurant and suites with views of Earth.A significant barrier to space travel is the cost. However,Orbital Assembly expects tourists to seek a trek into space as space travel eventually becomes less expensive.“We envision our Pioneer and Voyager space stations as the ultimate ecotourism destinations.Once people get to space,it will change their perspective about Earth,”Alatorre says.“Space travel is still at its early stage, and we’re excited to do our part to push it forward to help improve life on Earth.”12.What is the goal of the Pioneer and Voyager space stations?A.To revolutionize space travel.B.To serve as luxury hotels in space.C.To offer a unique and immersive experience.D.To enable large scale living and working in space.13.What do the Pioneer and Voyager stations have in common?A.Open time.B.Artificial gravity.C.Suites with views.D.Passenger capacity.14.What can we learn from paragraph4?A.The“Gravity Ring”rotates around the station.B.The gravity is weak in the central point of the station.C.The“Gravity Ring”on Pioneer is identical with that on Voyager.D.The gravity operates like a spinning bucket keeping water inside.15.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Overcoming the Barrier:Space Tourism Becomes AffordableB.Space Hotels on the Horizon:Pioneer and Voyager StationsC.The Future of Space Travel:Pioneer and Voyager StationsD.Orbital Assembly:Space Tourism Dream Comes True第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

To find different communities that had unique relationships with nature, I moved to Manaus in the Amazon Rainforest to feel the energy of the forest and see the local people’s integration with the forest. I discovered we can have many relationships with nature that aren’t always detrimental to those places. They took care of the land and cultivated these gardens filled with fruits and nuts we loved eating without harming the forest. I think many people unaware of how the local communities have shaped a “completely” natural space. The Amazon Rainforest is not just created by natural processes.Doing research in the field could be a big challenge. We often went to really isolated places when doing field work in the Amazon Rainforest. We were aware that if anything happened to us, we could die. If a venomous snake were to bite you out there, you would be in a dangerous situation. We needed to manage those feelings while doing our work and collecting data.I worked on an article about how we could engage native knowledge in conservation science. We had held small meetings with five native researchers, talking about how they viewed the Amazon Rainforest and trying to understand how we could maintain the Amazon Rainforest in the future. These conversations led me to start reflecting on how we did science.I submitted our paper to two other scientific journals before it was accepted. At the time, I didn’t feel that the article was good enough to be published in a major scientific journal like Science. I tried other journals and was rejected immediately. My coauthors and supervisors said that we had nothing to lose by submitting it to Science. We tried again and they accepted it. That experience has showed me that we need to commit ourselves to what we think we should do. We cannot give up when it comes to science. We need determination.24. What does the underlined word “detrimental” in paragraph 1 mean?A. Similar.B. Relevant.C. Harmful.D. Beneficial.25. What impressed the author most about Manaus?A. The locals’ care for nature.B. The change of natural processes.C. The local communities’ relationships.D. The situation of the Amazon Rainforest.26. Which of the following can best describe the author’s field work?A. Tiring.B. Risky.C. Costly.D. Demanding.27. Why does the author mention the experience of submitting the paper?A. To reveal backgrounds.B. To establish credibility.C. To highlight challenges.D. To demonstrate resolve.CSolar eclipses (日食) happen when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. These events are always spectacular. But total solar eclipses are extra special. One such eclipse was visible across large parts of North America on April 8, 2024. During that time, sky watchers felt surprised at the view. They also took part in scientific research. The eclipse was a piece of exciting news for solar science. On April 8, the Sun neared its most active phase when the Sun gave off more radiation and a lot of charged particles from its surface. Such solar storms threatened satellites orbiting the Earth. They even disrupted power grids on the ground. These are what the science pros found.“Luckily, researchers now have more scientific instruments to study our star than ever before,” said Kelly Korreck, who is an astrophysicist. “This provides a unique chance to learn about the Sun and its effects on our planet and its atmosphere.”But science pros aren’t the only ones getting in on the fun. Citizen scientists are members of the public who help gather observations and analyze them. “There is a lot of emphasis on citizen science and having folks do solar science projects,” Korreck said.Scientists hoped to recruit as many phones as possible, which would spread out over the2,000- mile- long and 100- mile- wide path of the April 2024 eclipse. Korreck said, “That will offer views of the solar shape from a very large number of van tage points. And it’s up to citizen scientists to do it.”Citizen scientists were able to take part without interrupting their view of the eclipse. They just started an app on their phone and propped it up facing the Sun at least five minutes before the Moon passed in front of the Sun. The app handled the rest. They could get to keep copies of the pictures as a souvenir. “That was a good chance for citizen scientists to contribute to eclipse research,” Korreck said. That’s true whether they set up a camera or installed an app.28. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?A. The total solar eclipse was visible in the entire America.B. The total solar eclipse has some impact on the Earth.C. The Earth gives off more radiation during solar eclipses.D. Sky watchers contributed a lot to scientific research.29. What did Korreck think of citizen scientists?A. They are enthusiastic.B. They are creative.C. They are optimistic.D. They are essential.30. What did the scientists want to get from citizen scientists during the total solar eclipse?A. Useful points about the total solar eclipse.B. As many phones as possible with apps installed.C. Observations of the total solar eclipse from different angles.D. More scientific instruments to help observe solar eclipses.31. What is the last paragraph mainly about?A. What citizen scientists got from the eclipse research.B. How citizen scientists got involved in the eclipse research.C. How much time citizen scientists spent in taking pictures.D. Why the total solar eclipse was a good chance for the scientists.DA wearable health monitor developed by Washington State University researchers can reliably measure levels of important biochemicals in sweat during physical exercise. The 3D- printed monitor could someday provide a simple and non- invasive (无创的) way to track health conditions and diagnose common diseases, such as diabetes, kidney disease or heart disease.Reporting in the journal, ACS Sensors, the researchers were able to accurately monitor the levels of volunteers’ glucose (葡萄糖) and uric acid (尿酸).“Diabetes is a major problem worldwide,” said Chuchu Chen, the first author of the paper. “I think 3D printing can make a difference to the healthcare fields, and I wanted to see if we can combine 3D printing with disease detection methods to create a device like this.” For their new health monitor, the researchers used 3D printing to make the health monitors in a unique, one- step manufacturing process. The researchers used a single- atom catalyst and enzymatic reactions to enhance the signal and measure low levels of the biomarkers. Three biosensors on the monitor change color to indicate the specific biochemical levels.Sweat contains many important chemicals that can indicate health conditions, but, unlike blood sampling, it’s non- invasive. Levels of uric acid in sweat can indicate the risk of developing kidney disease or heart disease. Glucose levels are used to monitor diabetes. But the amount of these chemicals in sweat is tiny and can be hard to measure, the researchers noted. While other sweat sensors (传感器) have been developed, they are complex and need specialized equipment and expertise to make. When the researchers compared the new monitors on volunteers’ arms to lab results, they found that their monitor was accurately and reliably measuring the concentration of the chemicals. The researchers are now working to further improve the device design and validation. They are also hoping to commercialize the technology.32. What does Chuchu Chen stress?A. The application of 3D printing in real life.B. The way to make 3D printing develop quickly.C. The integration of 3D printing and medical technology.D. The change in people’s health caused by 3D printing.33. What can we know about sweat from the text?A. The chemicals in it can reflect health conditions.B. Using it to monitor different diseases is invasive.C. It contains some chemicals that cause heart disease.D. The researchers find it difficult to measure its amount.34. What is the advantage of the health monitor over other sweat sensors?A. It’s easier to operate.B. It’s more specialized.C. It’s more commonly used.D. It’s more environmentally friendly.35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?A. 3D printing is used to monitor diseasesB. Sweat can help treat some common diseasesC. Blood sampling isn’t as accurate as sweat monitoringD. A sweat health monitor measures levels of disease markers第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Community Superheroes to the Rescue.BI was at a new school in a new state and needed something solid to stand on: a place to feel grounded. I also needed to do laundry, so I walked to a nearby self-service laundry and stuffed a machine with my clothes. As I struggled to close the washer door, the woman working behind the counter told me to give it a good hit with my hand. The washer did its job, yet even after an hour, the dryer seemed to have barely warmed my clothes. I left, having decided to air-dry them on my car in the August heat.A month later, I learned her name was Sandy, which she told me after I’d helped her stop a washing machine from moving across the floor. I was grading poems at a table when one of the washers broke loose and skipped an inch into the air. I jumped to the machine and held on while she unplugged it. The next week, Sandy told me dryer No. 8 was the fastest. It went on like this. I’d do laundry once a week, usually Thursday or Friday. Sandy worked Tuesday through Saturday and we’d talk small while I folded clothes. She told me about her son and his grades, as well as the new dog they’d just adopted. She was fascinated that I was studying poetry. She teased (开玩笑) that it was harder making a living as a poet than as a laundry attendant. Even then I knew she was probably right.I began to recognize others there: workers taking breaks by the door, a mother and her baby, and even some delivery drivers. But Sandy was the center of my community. For nearly three years and almost every week, I’d do laundry and talk with her. We checked on each other, expecting the other to be there. The Radiant Energy Group (REG) stated effects of EVs vary with countries. In some nations, EVs lead to the release of more carbon gases than gasoline cars. The group reckoned gas emissions (释放) caused by a gasoline vehicle and from charging an EV. Countries where charging an EV is cleaner than driving a gasoline-powered car use a lot of nuclear or solar power.Sales of electric cars are rising the fastest in Europe. Data from REG suggests EVs in Poland actually create more carbon emissions because their electrical systems depend so much on coal. In other European countries, however, EVs result in fewer emissions. The countries with the biggest carbon gas reduction use much clean power. The first was Switzerland at, 100 percent carbon reductions over gasoline vehicles.Germany and Spain create lots of electricity from the sun and wind. But the sun and wind don’t add to a country’s electrical system equally throughout the day. For this reason, carbon emissions saved by driving an EV aren’t fixed. Charging in the afternoon, when there’s more sun and wind, saves 16 to 18 percent more carbon than at night when electrical systems are more likely to be using gas or coal. The gap in emissions between electric and, gasoline-powered vehicles has narrowed in recent years. In Europe, carmakers have been required to meet EU CO2 emissions of performance standards. They’ve made their gasoline engines more sufficient, As a result, carbon emissions of new gasoline- powered cars in Europe have fallen an average of 25 percent in the past years. But EV sales in Europe are backed by government spending and rules against new gasoline engine cars after 2035. Major automakers have set targets to sell mainly EVs in Europe in the coming years.28. What does the underlined word “reckoned” mean in paragraph 1?A. Increased.B. Calculated.C. Banned.D. Prevented.29. What affects carbon emissions of EVs according to paragraph 3?A. The country where they’re made.B. Facilities producing clean power.C. The time they are being charged.D. Technology used by electrical systems.30. What causes sales of EVs to rise quickly in Europe?A. Support of official policies.B. Concern about global warming.C. Standards of gasoline cars.D. Advertisements from carmakers.31. Which can be the best title for the text?A. What Benefits Do EVs Bring?B. Will EVs Replace Gasoline Cars in Europe?C. How Do EVs Affect Carbon Emissions?D. Do Electric Cars Really Help the Environment?DPoet Wads worth Longfellow said “music is the universal language of mankind”, and there’s growing evidence that he was right. New research shows people with Alzheimer’s (老年痴呆) disease often respond to familiar music orJonathan Graff-Radford, Doctor of Medicine, explains on The Mayo Clinic website why this may be: “Musical memories are often preserved in Alzheimer’s patients because key brain areas linked to musical memory are relatively undamaged by the disease.”When English senior Ted Mc Dermott was diagnosed with Alzheimer in 2016, his son Simon Mc Dermott found Ted became verbally and physically violent as the disease progressed. Grateful for the resources provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, Simon and 80-year-old Ted made videos of their daily car duets (二重唱) for a fundraising “Singing for the Brain” program in 2019. Truly remarkable, considering that some days Ted didn’t recognize Simon. The songs brought them to the attention of the public. In just a few months their efforts had considerable success on YouTube, raising over £100,000, and resulting in a contract with Decca Records for 80-year-old Ted. Although Ted has begun to decline a little in the last years, he always remembers the words to his favorite songs and is happy to go with Simon daily in the car to sing.Different music-related programs and projects are offered by the U. K. Alzheimer’s Society organizations. These programs are designed for people with Alzheimer to provide mental stimulation in a supportive social environment.Social engagement and keeping your brain active, along with a healthy diet and exercising, may seem like obvious good habits to follow for your health in general. They’ve also been proven to be factors in reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer. It’s never too late to start taking care of your body and your brain—so make music appreciation or singing part of the routine of your loved one struggling with Alzheimer. As William Shakespeare said, “If music be the food of love, play on.”32. What does the underlined word “flagging” mean in paragraph 1?A. Getting worse.B. Doing well.C. Developing slowly.D. Changing quickly.33. Why is Dr. Johnathan’s post on the Internet mentioned in paragraph 2?A. To explain the cause of Alzheimer.B. To lead in the main topic of the text.C. To show the structure of the brain.D. To provide evidence for the research.34. How has the “Singing for the Brain” program benefited Ted?A. He has learned new life skills.B. He has recovered his memory.C. He has got enough fund for his disease.D. He has improved the quality of his later life.35. You may be wondering what he is doing so far off theground. If you asked him, he would say, “I am just doing my job!”Al Gehrke has a very special job that not many people would want to have. This was one factor that made him tackle skin cancer after he moved to the US.At home, Bekele — who’d entertain himself for hours as a child by mixing together any household products he could get his hands on and seeing what would happen — began wondering how he could help. “ What’s one thing that is an internationally impactful idea, something everyone can use, regardless of socioeconomic class?” Bekele asked himself. “Almost everyone uses soap and water for cleaning. So soap would probably be the best option.” So Bekele began his deliberate trial- and- error process, which led him to learn about a cream- based skin cancer treatment called Imiquimod that did produce desired results — but can cost as much as $180 for the uninsured in America. Inspired by the cream, Bekele designed his affordable soap.Bekele knew he’d need an actual lab to refine his creation. Bekele applied to — and won— the Minnesota-based tech company 3M’s Young Scientist Challenge in 2023,securing$25,000 and the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist”. Now, with the help of Johns Hopkins’ professor and biologist Vito Rebecca, Bekele has been testing the soap on mice at the university’s lab for almost half a year. The soap still has a long way to go: Testing, patenting it and getting FDA certification could take a decade. But even then, Bekele will only be 25 years old. 4.What initially inspired Bekele to come up with his idea to cure skin cancer?A.The farmers’ exposure to the hot sun.B.His journey from the classroom to the lab.C.The deadly disease he once suffered from.D.His being named Time’s Kid of the Year.5.What do we know about Imiquimod?A.It was invented by Bekele.B.Bekele proved its side effects.C.It is effective but expensive.D.Bekele produced it for his soap.6.Why did Bekele participate in the Young Scientist Challenge?A.To meet Professor Vito Rebecca.B.To get support to better his soap.C.To gain the soap patent from 3M.D.To promote ready- made products. 7.What can we learn from Bekele’s story?A.Thinking and action mean potential success.B.Success will get personal desires satisfied.C.Being famous is a great thirst of the young.D.Geniuses tend to get things done creatively. What if the secret to unlocking your child’s cognitive (认知的) potential was as simple as a10 - second stretch? Does it sound too good to be true?A new study’s findings showed that quick, low - intensity activities could be a valuable tool for enhancing kids’ cognitive function and potentially improving learning in school settings. The study, led by Takashi Naito and coworkers, focuses on a part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex (PFC). This area, located at the front of the brain, is crucial for many important mental tasks. As children grow, their PFC continues to develop. While previous studies have shown that moderate (中度的) to intense exercise can improve brain function, researchers were cognizant of less about the effects of light, easy activities - the kind that could be done quickly in aclassroom or during short breaks. So this study aimed’ to fill that gap by examining how simple exercise affects blood flow in the PFC of children. The researchers invited 41 children between the ages of 10 and 15 to participate in the study. These kids performed seven different types of light exercise, each lasting either 10 or 20 seconds. The exercise included things like stretching, hand movements, and balancing on one leg. Then, the researchers used a technique called functional near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to detect changes in blood flow in the brain, which can indicate increased brain activity. Their findings suggested that even short bursts of light activity can wake up the PFC in children. This could potentially lead to improved focus, better decision- making, and enhance learning abilities. However, the research focused only on children aged 10 -15, leaving questions about its applicability to younger children or adults. The sample size of 41 participants, while providing valuable data, may affect the generalizability of the findings. Additionally, the study only measured immediate changes in brain activity, not long- term effects or improvement of cognitive function. Factors such as individual fitness levels or daily activity habits , which could influence the results, were not considered. More research is necessary.8.Which can replace the underlined phrase“ were cognizant of” in paragraph 3?A.Ignored.B.Knew.C.Predicted.D.Prevented. 9.What is paragraph 4 mainly about concerning the study?A.Its theory.B.Its findings.C.Its tools.D.Its process. 10.What was one limitation of the study?A.The testing time was too long.B.It considered too many factors.C.It involved adults in participating.D.The sample age range was too small.11.What is the best title for the text?A.Kids Need to Do Exercise to Protect Their PFC.B.PFC Determines Kids’ Success in School and LifeC.Short Light Exercise May Boost Kids’ Brain ActivityD.Activity Breaks Affect Short- term Brain ChangesFrank Sinatra famously sang that if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. And that’s just what some scientists focus on about a particular species of ant. This ant, also called the ManhattAnt, first turned up in New York in 2011. But it’s already developed and grown. What’s more, ManhattAnts have started to spread outward, expanding their territory at a rate of about a mile a year.“ We predict that they could expand as far north as Maine and as far south as Atlanta, Georgia,” says American scientist Clint . Penick. He and his team are now trying to study it and figure out whether it’s likely to threaten native insect species or damage plants. Eventually, they definitively identified it as a species that’s native to Europe. That effort involved consulting with a European ant expert who could hardly believe that this ant was living it up in New York.“ He was like,’ They’ re not really powerful in any European area,’” says Penick. Now, ManhattAnts live on the sidewalk, but ants normally like to live in places like soil. and leaf litter —— including this species, which in its native Europe can be found making its home in forests. yGenerally, these ants avoid human food. Their main food is honeydew, a kind of sugary substance. The ants go up into street trees to look for honeydew, and it seems that they’ve found a job that’s not really being pursued by other ants in this city. They’ll care for the plant pests (害虫) that produce honeydew, increasing the numbers of pests and consequently making life harder for the plants. It’s entirely possible that, in the long term, ManhattAnts could have a disadvantageous effect on city trees. The fact that ManhattAnts haven’t been obvious trouble- makers so far isn’t necessarily reassuring. We should remember what Benioit Guénard, an insect biodiversity researcher, has noted,“ We know that invasions (入侵) that appeared minor for decades can suddenly become serious and then cause major problems.”12.What does the author indicate about ManhattAnts by mentioning Frank Sinatra?A.The reasons for their existence.B.Their living environment.C.The process of their wide spread.D.Their survival and growth.13.How did the European ant expert in the text look at ManhattAnts?A.Their value was high in science.B.Their invasion took him by surprise.C.They should be kept in the forests.D.They were a symbol of insect diversity.14.Why do ManhattAnts protect the plant pests?A.To save more young plants.B.To ensure their food supply.C.To replace their human food.D.To make honeydew more tasty. 15.What’s the author’s attitude towards ManhattAnts?A.Favorable.B.Unclear.C.Uneasy.D.Dismissive.In the workplace, it’s crucial to avoid making promises we can’t keep. But how can we do this? One way to do this is by being realistic about our capabilities and timetable. For instance, a workmate asks us to complete a task within an extremely tight deadline, but we’ re already busy with other work. 16 We could say, “Let me check my current workload and get back to you on whether I can meet this deadline.”17 If we’ re not sure about the requirements of a task or project, we should ask questions before committing. For example, when a manager assigns a complex project, we can ask for more details about the resources available, and potential challenges. This way, we can make a more informed decision. Moreover, we should learn to say no when necessary. 18 It shows that we respect our own limitations and the importance of delivering quality work. For example, if we’ re asked to take on a task that we know is beyond our expert knowledge or skills, we can politely decline and suggest alternative solutions or people who might be better suited for the job. This action will earn us the respect of our workmates. 19Furthermore, it’s important to manage expectations. If we’ re asked to do something that may have uncertainties, we should communicate them upfront. For instance, we’ re asked to prepare a presentation, but we can’t collect all the necessary data in time. Then, we could say, “ 20 But I’ll do that and keep you updating on my progress.” This way, our superiors are aware of the potential risks and won’t be blindsided.A.Communicating clearly is a wise choice.B.Doing this doesn’t mean we’re uncooperative.C.Naturally, we can maintain a good reputation in the workplace.D.There might be some challenges with finding enough information.E.Trusting each other really means helping each other in the workplace.F.Instead of immediately saying yes, take a moment to assess our schedule.G.We create a positive work environment where everyone can finish their jobs well.二、完形填空ALS is a nervous system disease that no specific drug can treat. They check people’s vital signs, such as blood pressure and glucose(葡萄糖)levels, and provide the medical team with timely data for assessing how to move forward with care and treatment, especially for those whose health is at risk.In the future,Boateng wants to broaden the reach of his efforts to deliver medical services, not only to Ghana’s remote regions but also to other nations across the globe.“I believe that our model can be copied in Sub-Saharan Africa,”he said.“So,the goal is to really develop strategic partnerships and get additional mobile health vans for the communities or the regions that we want to serve.”24.What motivated Boateng to launch the OKB Hope Foundation?A.The drive to raise people’s awareness of health.B.The barrier to basic health care in his community.C.The dream of impressing his family members and neighbors.D.The hope of creating jobs for medical professionals in Ghana.25.Why does the author mention Abraham in paragraph4?A.To judge the service of the mobile clinic.B.To describe the current situation of the citizens.C.To imply the positive impact of the mobile clinic.D.To show the mobile clinic has served many people.26.What role do the local health advocates play?A.They help the doctors to analyze data.B.They assist patients to get their medicine.C.They keep the medical facilities in good condition.D.They examine the patients before further treatment.27.What is Boateng’s long-term vision for the OKB Hope Foundation?A.To expand the mobile clinic service beyond his country.B.To work with other nations to promote his organization.C.To establish a national health insurance system in Ghana.D.To build a large hospital in every rural community in Ghana.CFor the past20years,I’ve searched libraries and the Internet for others who are thinking about the possible effect of the breakdown of multigenerational families.I’ve been surprised at how few resources exist on this topic. It’s the main reason I chose to finally write Family Revision. While I’ve expected one of the countless marriage and family writers and thinkers to address this topic, none seem to really understand that the transition(转变)from multigenerational families to nuclear families is at the root of so many of the other symptoms they discuss.Well, the silence on this topic was finally broken and it was not from a traditional family publication but from David Brooks,The New York Times columnist writing for The Atlantic. In an article nearly the length of a dissertation on this subject,Brooks masterfully exposes the root problem with the modern family. In the article,Brooks wrote,“When we discuss the problems the country is facing,we don’t talk about family enough. It feels too judgmental, too uncomfortable, and maybe even too religious. But the fact is that the nuclear family has been crumbling in slow motion for decades, and many of our other problems—with education, mental health, and the quality of the labor force—stem from that breakdown. We have left behind the family structure of the past. For most people it’s not coming back.”Many Americans are hungering to live in multigenerational families,in the way that is new and ancient at the same time. This is a significant opportunity,a chance to thicken and broaden family relationships,a chance to allow more adults and children to live and grow under the loving gaze of a dozen pairs of eyes, and be caught, when they fall,by a dozen pairs of arms. For decades we have been eating at smaller and smaller tables, with fewer and fewer relatives. It’s time to find ways to bring back the big tables.28.Which word can best describe the breakdown of multigenerational families?A.Damaging.B.Extraordinary.C.Meaningful.D.Ineffective.29.What does the author think of Brooks’article?A.It’s a tradition.B.It’s a victory.C.It’s a comparison.D.It’s a breakthrough.30.What does the underlined word“crumbling”in paragraph4mean?A.developingB.failingC.collapsingD.establishing31.What is the author’s attitude to the structure of multigenerational families?A.Dismissive.B.Approving.C.Unclear.D.Doubtful.DIf you use the internet, you’ve probably heard of a filter bubble(过滤气泡).Internet sites and social media platforms use algorithms(算法)that show you content based on your previous interactions, likes, and shares.Over time, this creates a filter bubble where you only see content that agrees with your interests and beliefs, which serves to convince you that your beliefs are true. But what you might not know is that in similar fashion, your brain has several mechanisms to filter information, creating personal filter bubbles that deeply shape how you live your life.Self-created filter bubbles happen through various cognitive processes, and they have multiple consequences. They shape your experience of what’s happening by forming a lens(镜片) through which you see and interpret the world. On the internet, because things are being presented based on past user history,no two people get the same results when they search for something on the internet or open their news feed.In real life,no two people are experiencing an event or seeing a situation in the exact same way, because we all bring our own past expe r iences and biases(偏见) to situations, causing us to process them differently.Filter bubbles can cause you to stay stuck in self-created and often self-limiting patterns of thought and behavior. If you’ve ever wondered why change is so hard,it’s because your mental filter bubbles make it difficult to see different possibilities. If you hold the belief that you’re not someone who can have a high-paying job,you won’t look for one and you’ll only seek out and see jobs that match up with what you think you’re worth.Filter bubbles can also prevent critical thinking and can lead to a limited and biased view of the world, where people don’t consider alternative viewpoints and don’t engage with others outside of their own circles. When we only consume information that confirms our preexisting beliefs and values,we don’t question the truth of that information or properly evaluate the evidence. While you can’t prevent your brain from creating selective filter bubbles, you can become more aware so that you don’t have to be limited or trapped by them.32.What can we learn about filter bubbles?A.They shape our interpretations of the world.B.They have changed the way we view ourselves.C.They are frequent occurrences and have little effect on us.D.They assist us in making friends with like-minded individuals.33.How do filter bubbles impact individuals’ability to embrace change?A.They facilitate open-mindedness and flexibility.B.They make individuals resistant to new opportunities.C.They help individuals adapt quickly to new situations.D.They prevent individuals from successfully securing a job.34.What might the author continue talking about?A.Examples of creating filter bubbles.B.Barriers to overcoming filter bubbles.C.Ways of escaping from filter bubbles.D.Benefits of recognizing filter bubbles.35.What does the text mainly talk about?A.The dangers of bias in information consumption.B.The influence of past experiences on our worldview.C.The benefits of social media algorithms on our mind.D.The impact of filter bubbles on shaping our perception.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

As the name suggests, this type of memory stores the scenes of our life.Another type of memory that can also be suddenly remembered is semantic memory. Our semantic memory is the storehouse of our knowledge, containing all the facts we know.Usually, the recall of episodic and semantic memories has easily identifiable triggers(诱因) in our context. Context includes our physical surroundings as well as the aspects of our mental state, such as thoughts and feelings. For example, you're eating a dish at a restaurant, and its smell reminds you of a similar dish your mom used to make. This is episodic memory. When someone says the word "Oscar", the name of the movie that won the Oscar recently flashes in your mind. That belongs to semantic memory. These memories had obvious triggers in our context, but sometimes, the memories that flash in our minds have no identifiable triggers. They seem to flash across our minds out of nowhere; therefore, they've been called mind-pops(闪念) .Mind-pops shouldn't be confused with insight, which is the sudden popping up of a potential solution to a complex problem in the mind. Thus, mind-pops are semantic or autobiographical memories that suddenly flash in our minds without an easily identifiable trigger.Mind-pops may comprise any piece of information, be it an image, a sound, or a word. They're often experienced by people when they're engaged in mundane tasks like mopping the floor or brushing teeth. Such ordinary and unexciting routines tend to inspire something in our mind. For example, you're reading a book, and suddenly, the image of your school corridor pops into your mind for no reason. What you were reading or thinking at the time had no connection to your school.I do experience mind-pops from time to time. But when I tried to look for cues in my context that may have triggered my mind-pops, I would fail. Maybe such mind-pops are completely random.8.Which of the following might be episodic memory?A.You predict a heavy rain is on the way.B.A good idea flashes into your mind suddenly.C.A song reminds you of your middle school graduation.D.You think of a round shape when hearing the word "circle".9.What is a feature of mind-pops?A.They have obvious triggers. B.They come out without warning.C.They appear in the form of images. D.They often bring long-lasting memories.10.What does the underlined word " mundane" in paragraph 6 probably mean?A.Careful. B.Dull. C.Necessary. D.Challenging. 11.What is the aim of this passage?A.To explore human inner thoughts.B.To point out the memory formation.C.To distinguish different memory scenes.D.To explain some similar memory phenomena.DA new study published in the journal Science Advances finds that AI enhances creativity by boosting the novelty of story ideas as well as the "usefulness" of stories—their ability to engage the target audience and potential for publication. It finds that AI "professionalizes" stories, making them more enjoyable, more likely to have plot twists, better written and less boring. In a study, 300 participants were tasked with writing a short, eight-sentence "micro story" for a target audience of young adults. They were divided into three groups: one group was allowed no AI help, a second group could use ChatGPT to provide a single three-sentence starting idea, and writers in the third group could choose from up to five AI-generated ideas for their inspiration. They then asked 600 people to judge how good the stories were, assessing them for novelty and "usefulness". They found that writers with the most access to AI experienced the greatest gains to their creativity, their stories scoring 8.1% higher for novelty and 9% higher for novelty compared with stories written without AI. Writers who used up to five AI-generated ideas also scored higher for emotional characteristics, producing stories that were better written, more enjoyable, less boring and funnier. The researchers evaluated the writers' creativity using a Divergent Association Task( DA T) and found that more creative writers—those with the highest DAT score s—benefitted least from generative AI ideas.Less creative writers conversely saw a greater increase in creativity: access to five AI ideas improved novelty by 10.7% and usefulness by 11.5% compared with those who used no AI ideas. Their stories were judged to be up to 26.6% better written, up to 22.6% more enjoyable and up to 15.2% less boring.Anil Doshi, Assistant Professor at the UCL School of Management, said, “While these results point to an increase individual creativity, there is risk of losing collective novelty. If the publishing industry were to use more generative AI-inspired stories, our findings suggest that the stories would become less unique and more similar to each other. That is not encouraged in writing. ”12.What were some participants assigned to do in the study?A.Help targeted young writers.B.Improve some less creative works.C.Create a mini story for young men.D.Use AI to judge the quality of stories.13.Who benefitted most from the AI-assisted writing in the study?A.Those using AI most. B.Those of most creativity.C.Those with the help of ChatGPT. D.Those writing the most.14.What might be Anil Doshi's attitude toward the AI-assisted writing?A.Objective. B.Optimistic. C.Indifferent. D.Dismissive.15.What can be the best title for the passage?A.AI Is Being Used to Create Novel Stories Nowadays.B.AI Is Catching on But Threatening the Future of Writers.C.AI Can Boost Creativity in Writing But Has Its Disadvantages.D.AI Helps Improve Writing Skills But Is Limited to Young Writers.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Just as likely, though, she'll stare insistently into an empty distance, spit up,or simply protest by crying loudly.New research suggests that babies are highly selective-discriminating even-in whom they will pay attention lo. And even before their first birthdays, this research shows, babies distinguish between "people like me"and all others. For those of us who like to think that prejudice comes with age, this may be disappointing news. But a new study, published Monday in the journal PNAS,offers a fresh perspective on babies' remarkable ability to distinguish between"in-group"members("people like me")and out-group members("others") at such a young age.Babies are all about learning new stuff, the new research concludes. And they won't waste a minute paying attention to someone they think unlikely to deliver the goods. The new research shows that, given the choice of listening to someone speaking in their native language and someone speaking another tongue, 11-month-old babies will consistently ignore the foreign speaker and pay attention to the person speaking the language that's familiar to them. At the moment that those babies made such decisions, researchers detected a distinctive pattern in their brain activity-a pattern consistently seen in babies expecting to learn something new.Yes,the babies were making"us"versus"them"Judgments which, research has found, become ever more generalized and powerful as we age. But they appeared to be making those selective judgments, the research found,in a bid to maximize the information they lake in,not to exclude the “other”。
