AThere are dozens of movie recommendation engines on the Web. They're all different, but some are definitely better than others.Rotten TomatoesInstead of telling Rotten Tomatoes which films you like, you can tell it what kind of films you enjoy, which actors you want to see, and other standards to help it find the best movie for you. There's a lot of variability in the quality of Rotten Tomatoes recommendations but it's also a nice way to find the right film for any mood.NetflixNetflix asks you to rate (划分等级) movies to determine which films you'll want to see next. And although it does make it easy to rate movies and it does return huge lists, the ideas it gives you aren't all that strong. It's easy to use, but it's not the best way to get movie recommendations.JinniWhether you want to search for films based on your mood, time available, or reviews, the site has it all. But Jinni's most amazing feature is its semantic (语义的) search. You can enter a term like “films that show Chris Farley yelling” and the site will return films that match your question. Go to use Jinni. You won't regret it!CritickerInstead of just allowing you to rank films, Criticker compares your ratings to those of other users and see how closely your tastes match those of other users. Once the service finds matches, you can view these users' lists and see which movies they like.1.Which one does the author recommend most?A.Rotten Tomatoes. B.Netflix.C.Jinni. D.Criticker.2.What makes Criticker special?A.Comparing users' ratings.B.Ranking your favourite films.C.Offering different standards.D.Finding films based on mood.3.What is the purpose of the text?A.To recommend the best online movies.B.To show how to use movie search engines.C.To introduce several movie search engines.D.To explain how to find the best online moviesB“If y ou are cold, it will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; if you are depressed, it will cheer you; if you are exhausted, it will calm you.” 1)The poem best identifies the passion for tea in Britain. 4)Outside of the United Kingdom, many people refer to afternoon tea as “high tea”. Afternoon tea, also known as low tea, is what most people think of when they hear “high tea”. It involves things like manners, lace (蕾丝) and light meals such as cookies and finger sandwiches. It is typically served in the midafternoon and it wastraditionally served on low tables, hence its two names.A fternoon tea was started in the mid1800s by the Duchess of Bedford. Around that time,2)kerosene (煤油) lamps were introduced into wealthier homes and eating a late dinner (around 8 or 9 p.m.) became fashionable. This increasingly late dinner was one of the only two meals each day, and the other was a midmorning one. The story goes that the Duchess found herself with a “sinking feeling”. This came from hunger during the long wait between meals. She decided to invite friends over for various snacks and tea. The idea of an afternoon tea gathering spread across high society and 3)became a favorite pastime of females for leisure. Later, it spread to other social groups. However, the British working population did not have afternoon tea. They had a meal about midday, and a meal after work, between five and seven o'clock. This meal was called “high tea” or just “tea”. Traditionally eaten early evening, high tea was a substantial(内容充实的)meal that combined delicious sweet food, such as cookies, cakes or tea bread, with heavy food, such as cheese on toast, cold meats and poached eggs on toast. This meal is now often replaced with a supper due to people eating their main meal in the evening rather than at midday. 4.What is the author's purpose of using a poem at the beginning of the passage?A.To introduce a topic.B.To present a puzzle.C.To describe the phenomenon.D.To clarify his writing purpose.5.What led to the appearance of afternoon tea?A.Kerosene lamps were used at home.B.Upper class had more free time.C.Drinking tea makes people feel good.D.Duchess of Bedford was influential in social circle.6.What was the most important feature of afternoon tea in the mid1800s?A.Simple food and tea.B.A ladies' social occasion.C.Being served on low tables.D.Serving time.7.What is the best title for the text?A.A Good TraditionB.Ways of Low TeaC.Traditional Afternoon TeaD.High Tea and Low TeaCSports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your choice of sport might have great influence on the environment. Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses(球场)in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas. There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don't need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes, and you don't have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control. Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”.They are better replacements(代替物)for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it's free.8. Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of?A. Playing basketball in a gym.B. Motor racing in the desert.C. Cycling around a lake.D. Swimming in a sports center.9. What do we know about golf from the passage?A. It is popular in Portugal and Spain.B. It needs water and electricity to keep its courses green.C. It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes.D. It causes water shortages around the world.10. The author uses power walking as an example mainly because _______.A. it uses fewer resourcesB. it improves our healthC. it is an outdoor sportD. it is recommended by experts11. The author writes the passage to _______.A. show us the function of major sportsB. encourage us to go in for green sportsC. discuss the major influence of popular sportsD. introduce different types of environment-friendly sportsDInside Out is one of my favorite Disney movies. The story is about a young girl named Riley who moves from Minnesota to San Francisco with her family and how she deals with her emotions through the move. These five emotions in Riley's brain are Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust (厌恶) and Sadness. These emotions play a very important role in her life. I can relate because I am an 11-year-old girl and I am very in touch with my emotions and pre-teen feelings. The film is extremely beautiful and you couldn't ask for better direction from Pete Doctor. The use of the right colors for the characters is great. For example, Joy is yellow, Sadness is blue, Disgust is green, Fear is purple and Anger of course is red. Sadness plays a main role in the story and it makes me wonder why we are told not to be sad. I think it's important to be sad when the time comes. The end of the movie pretty much got me and the whole audience (families, couples and even elderly people) in tears and I cried very hard.I recommend this movie for anyone from 8 to 18 because it has enough joy in it for younger kids to like it even though it does have some sad moments. I believe that adults will like it too. And I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it connects to an older audience even though it is designed for a younger audience. I think younger children can see this, but a parent would have to explain some things to them after the movie.12. The author feels connected with the movie because she and the character Riley ______.A. enjoy the same movieB. have the same feelingsC. have the same move experienceD. have a similar family background13. What does the author think of Pete Doctor's job?A. Bad.B. Just so-so.C. Wonderful.D. Disappointing.14. After seeing the movie, the author has a new understanding of ______.A. fearB. sadnessC. angerD. joy15. In the author's eyes, the movie ______.A. won't attract people over 18B. is really unsuitable for childrenC. will be popular among kids and adultsD. can easily be understood by younger kids第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

"Birds take off as a result of an acute flight response due to sudden noise and light. Wealready knew that many water birds react strongly, but now we also see the effect on other birds throughout the Netherlands, "says Bart Hoekstra.Last year, a study discovered that geese are so affected by fireworks that they spend about 10% longer looking for food than normal during at least the next 12 days. They apparently need time to restore their energy to their former condition, after escaping from the fireworks.Because 62% of all birds in the Netherlands live within a radius (半径) of 2.5 km of inhabited areas (居民区) , the effects of fireworks are high for all birds throughout the country. "Flying requires a lot of energy, so ideally birds should be disturbed as little as possible during the cold winter months. Measures to ensure this are especially important in open areas such as grasslands, where many larger birds spend the winter. The effects ofbirds live there, which are less likely to fly away from disturbance, " says Bart Hoekstra.People who argue for fireworks-free zones in areas where large birds live advise that fireworks should mainly be lit as far away from birds as possible. Most of the buildings along the main street are eye-catching, in deep, varied hues of blues and greens; interspersed with red and yellow to form complex patterns and designs.Santa Catarina Palopó was once a sleepy town of 5,000 people, most of them indigenous (土著的) and dependent on agricultural work. As agriculture began to dry up here, decline for the town and poverty for many of its families came. To deal with poverty and stimulate economic growth through tourism, a small but mighty group of laborers, artisans, domestic workers and stay-at-home moms created the Pintando Santa Catarina Palopó project. The project was initially to paint all 850 homes and buildings in bright colors, in an effort to change the hillside town into a work of art. "We wanted to paint the houses with colors and figures that represent the community, says the project's executive director Stephany Blanco." A range of designs were created so that families can choose designs for their house that are representative of the family. One of the most representative characteristics of the region is the blue huipil, a traditional blouse which has been worn prominently by local women since the 16th century. That deep sky blue was chosen as the primary color for the Pintando project, with secondary colors found in the sunsets and the nearby lake to make the design more attractive. As for the designs that would be used, they would also find inspiration in local culture, symbols such as volcanoes, flowers, Mayan-styled butterflies and the national bird of Guatemala. Each week, local artists, community members and tourists pick up paintbrushes to make buildings colorful. "At first, the idea of the project left many unsure about participating, but now you can see a considerable difference in the town, "Melissa Whitbeck said. "The color of the buildings is believed to improve the quality of life of the people. It uplifts the people's mood and encourages them to be proud of where they come from."12.What problem did Santa Catarina Palopó face?A.A labor shortage.B. Poor economic conditions.C.A rapid increase in population.D. Outdated agricultural technology.13.What is the project about?A.Building art galleries in Guatemala.B.Creating job opportunities for local artisans.C.Developing local tourism by selling artworks.D.Transforming the town into a cultural destination.14.What is the inspiration of the primary color for the project?A.The nearby lake.B.Mayan-styled butterflies.C.A type of traditional clothing.D.The national bird of Guatemala.15.What is Melissa's attitude towards the project?A.Positive.B.Uncaring.C.Confused.D.Disappointed.二、七选五16.We're getting more used to chatting to our computers and smart phones through all kinds of voice assistants. ①_______ People who can't read or write can send and get information using the spoken web. Some think voice could soon become the main way to interact online. AOn Sunday morning, after listening to a sermon(布道) about making “A World of Difference”, we stopped at the gas station for a snack and drinks. When we pulled in to the parking lot we noticed a young girl sitting on the road. She was outside in January , in the Midwest, with only a sweatshirt. No coat or gloves. She didn’t look very happy.I approached her and asked if she was okay. She said yes and told me that she had run out of gas down the road, walked to the gas station, and was now waiting for someone to bring her a gas can and a little money so she could get her car running again. By the look on her face I thought she had been waiting for a while.I,hesitantly, asked if we could give her a lift somewhere . I was fearful that she might be worried about our intentions. She graciously(有礼貌地) refused and said she would simply wait.I went inside the gas stati on to pick up the items we had come for, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the young girl sitting outside in the cold and wished I could do something to help her. So I bought a gift certificate for her. With it she could either buy the gasoline she said she needed or she could at least go inside and purchase a drink and some food to keep her warm while she waited for someone to come to get her.She was so surprised when I handed her the gift certificate.Walking away I got the feeling that help didn’t come her way very often. She was very thankful for the gift certificate --- but I thought it did just as much to lift my spirits as it did hers!21. Why did the young girl wait on the road?A. Because she waited for her friends.B. Because her gas had given out and she waited for someone to help her.C. Because she wanted to buy some food.D. Because she wanted to borrow some money.22. Where did the author go on Sunday morning?A: The nursing home. B. The shop. C. The hospital. D. The church.23. What can we learn from the last paragraph?A. People often helped the young girl.B. The author regretted having helped the young girl later.C. The young girl seldom helped others.D. People seldom helped the young girl like the author.24. How did the author help her?A. The author bought her a certificate that she needed.B. The author helped her to borrow the gas.C. The author bought her some food and drinks.D. The author bought her a coat.BGood relationships are definitely good sources of happiness in life. We all want happy relationships but if we do not keep that relationship alive,it can also be one of the most distraught things in life. There may be no hard and fast rules in making good relationships, as each of us has different preferences and points of view as to what is a great relationship. The following are some major key players in making relationships work.It is often said that building good relationships is all about communication. Good communication indeed governs a good relationship-knowing the right thing to say, when to say it,how to say it,and accepting some things that are better left unsaid. I personally think communication must be broadened because relationships involve more decisions to make. From study to work, from money to entertainment and even in things about yourself or about your friends that you do not know, communication is essential in these aspects of the relationships.Of course, being with someone is not saying that you totally agree with him or her all the time. You and your friends come from different family backgrounds, raised in different environments so there may be disagreements here and there. However, it is important in making relationships work to express disagreements without pushing the relationship to end. Again, good communication and learning to compromise(妥协)at times are essential. As relationships last longer, you may also discover things about you and your friends that you may not have known before. Therefore, supporting each other on both your "hidden selves" can also make a good relationship.Love is an important aspect of building relationships and for me,I always believe that love needs open communication, respect, support and understanding each other in making relationships work.25. The underlined word “distraught” in Paragraph 1 probably meansA. upsettingB. surprisingC. funnyD. helpless26. To communicate well with people, you should know thatA. your friends need to have the same backgrounds with youB. compromises are essential at any timeC. a white lie is necessary sometimesD. supporting each other in anything helps build a good relationship27. According to the text, which of the following are important for a good relationship'?a. communicationb. supportc. hidden selvesd. loveA. abdB. acdC. bcdD. abc28. What would be the best title for the text ?A. The importance to express disagreementsB. Forbidden rules in building good relationshipsC. Different opinions on good relationshipsD. Keys to making relationships workCSpeaking two languages can actually help offset(抵消) some effects of aging on the brain, a new study has found.Researchers tested how long it took participants to switch from one cognitive(认知的)task to another, something that's known to take longer for older adults, said the lead researcher, Brian Gold,a neuroscientist at the University of Kentucky.Gold's team compared task-switching speeds for younger and older adults, knowing they would find slower speeds in the older population because of previous studies. However, they found older adults speaking two languages were able to switch mental activities faster than those who didn't. The study only looked at lifelong bilinguals(会说两种语言的人),defined in the study as peoplespeaking a second language daily since they were at least 10 years old.First,Gold and his team asked 30 people, either bilingual or monolingual,to look at a series of colored shapes and respond with the name of each shape by pushing a button. Then, they presented the participants with a similar series of colored shapes and asked them to respond with what colors the shapes were by pushing a button. Finally, they presented participants with a series of colored shapes, but they mixed prompts(提词) for either a shape or a color to test participants' task-switching time. The bilingual people were able to respond faster to the moving prompts. Researchers found bilingual people~not only able to switch tasks faster一they had different brain activities compared with their monolingual peers.Krishna called bilingualism a ”beautiful natural experiment",because people grow up speaking two languages, and studies have shown that they get certain cognitive benefits from switching between languages and determining which to respond with based on what's going on around them.Gold said he grew up in Montreal, where he spoke French at school and English at home, prompting relatives to question whether his French language attention would somehow stop his ability to learn English.“Until recently, learning a second language in childhood was thought of as dangerous,”he said, “Actually, it's beneficial.”29. Krishna called bilingualism a ”beautiful natural experiment" becauseA. people speaking two languages are beautifulB. people speaking two languages are naturalC. people speaking two languages like the experimentD. people grow up, benefiting from speaking two languages30. Gold's relatives were puzzled when he spoke French at school and English at home becauseA. they thought it would affect his progressB. they thought it would be of little help to himC. they were afraid that learning French would affect his English learningD. they thought that French was useless31. What's the main idea of the passage?A. Researchers found bilingual people respond slowly.B. Researchers found bilinguals can slow down the speed of aging on the brain and respond fast.C. Researchers found bilinguals are great.D. Researchers found speaking two languages is very important.32. We can learn from the last paragraph that learning a second language in childhood isA. not beneficial to childrenB. dangerous but beneficial to childrenC. not dangerous but beneficial to childrenD. dangerous to childrenDJanelle was running late for work, so she just had time for a quick look at herself in the mirror as she was going out. What she saw there made her stop dead in her tracks.Being a busy college student just one year removed from her teenage years, sh e wasn’t exactly obsessive-compulsive(有强迫观念和行为的) about the neatness of her clothes. But her boss at the restaurant where she works saw things a little differently. He had recently lectured the entire staff on the importance of appearance, and had specifically mentioned the need for servers to wear clean, unwrinkled blouses. As an assistant manager, Janelle felt it was important to set an example for the other employees. But if she stopped to iron the blouse normally, she would be late —and work without delay was an area of even greater concern to her boss.So she grabbed her iron and plugged it in and set it for low heat. Carefully holding her blouse away from her body, she continued to iron it while she was wearing it. It seemed like a logical answer to an urgent problem. And it seemed to be working until Janelle tried to iron the collar and accidentally ironed her neck by mistake. Then it suddenly seemed like a really stupid idea and a really painful one as well. It took more time to treat her burn than it would have taken to iron her shirt properly. And she spent a miserable shift dealing with the pain of the burn. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? For me it was cutting my own hair. For a former roommate it was trying to pull his own wisdom teeth. For another college acquaintance, it was trying to change the oil in his car while the motor was still running.“There’s a right way and a wrong way of doing things,” Dad used to tell me whenever I’d spoil the look of our yard by trying out a faster, easier and more creative way of pulling weeds or edging the lawn. “If a thing is worth doing,” he said, “it’s worth doing it right.” There’s a reason why certain things are done in certain ways. Those old, boring, predictable ways work.33.It’s learned from Paragraph 2 that______________.A.Jenelle had no sense of responsibility at workB.Jenelle failed to set an example for employees in daily workC.Jenelle’s boss put doing something on time above appearanceD.Jenelle didn’t care about the neatness of her clothes at all34.What can we infer from the fifth paragraph?A.We all have tried to iron clothes while we are wearing them.B.We are careful enough in daily life.C.We all have done something creative.D.We all have done loads of things like Janelle.35.What does the author mainly want to tell readers in the last paragraph ?A.Be creative. B.Do things right.C.Stick to old ways. D.A bad beginning makes a bad ending.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it.
