Ive got a deep secret few people understand and even fewer will admit to sharing. Its time to tell the truth: I love the rain, deeply and passionately and more than the sun. At least I live in the right place, famous for its damp weather and spawning its own genuine rainforest. I cant imagine living anywhere else than the Pacific Northwest. The sun shines so infrequently that my friends forget where they put their sunglasses. Gloomy clouds cause many people around here to suffer from seasonal affective disorder. Yet I welcome the rain.Seattleites will say they like how rain keeps the city green, how clean the air tastes afterwards. My real reason for enjoying the rain is steeped in pure selfishness when its mucky outside, I donthave to do anything. I can spend the afternoon curled up reading, build a fire and make a big pot of spiced tea. I can sleep in late, waking up occasionally to hear soothing patter on the roof, water racing down the gutter. Nobody expects me to leave my house or do anything overly productive. Maybe Ill invite a few friends over to watch an old movie or play a board game. Friends expectations are low and easy to meet.Summer in Seattle is beautiful but exhausting. The sunny, gorgeous weather and blue skies draw Seattleites from their cozy little homes, ready to dry out and have fun. People go hiking, biking, canoeing. Folks work in their gardens, wash their cars and attend outdoor concerts in the park all in the same day! The effort involved to throw a party ratchets up several notches, as people host barbecues and picnics and water-skiing parties.

Run through the rain
Run through the rainI remember the first time I ran through the rain. I was in elementary school, and I had just finished my first track meet. I was so excited that I had placed first in my race, but I had forgotten my umbrella. As I walked out of the stadium, I heard the sound of raindrops hitting the pavement. I looked up and saw the sky was dark and the rain was coming down hard.I knew I had to get home quickly, so I decided to run. I started off slowly, but as the rain kept coming down, I started to pick up the pace. I ran faster and faster, feeling the rain splash against my skin.I felt alive and free, like I could keep running forever. When I finally reached my house, my clothes were soaked and my hair was dripping wet. But I was grinning from ear to ear. I had just experienced something incredible, something that I would never forget. To this day, I still love running through the rain. It reminds me of that first time and how alive I felt. It’s a feeling that I can’t get anywhere el se. Whenever I’m feeling down, I just put on my running shoes and head out into the rain. It always brings me back to life.。

I was a single mother of four children, working at a low-paid job. Money was always tight, but we hada roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothes on our backs. I always told myself to be brave and strong, just for my four children. I hoped all my efforts would be worthwhile, as long as my children could grow up healthily. Every New Year's Day we drove downtown to enjoy a special dinner, but the big excitement for the kids was the fun of shopping at the mall. This was a tradition of my family, so they all looked forward to the coining of the day. They talked and planned for weeks ahead of time, asking each other what they wanted for New Year's Day.The big day arrived and we started out early. I gave each of the four kids a twenty-dollar bill and asked them to search for gifts. Then everyone scattered (散开)with the bill. I sat at a table in a cafe waiting for my children and enjoying an instant of silence. It must be a happy day.Back in the car driving home, everyone was excited about the day, laughing and asking each other about what they had bought. I noticed Ginger my younger daughter had only one small and flat bag with her. I could see enough through the plastic bag to tell that she had bought candy bars —fifty-cent candy bars! What did she do with that twenty-dollar bill I had given her? I was angry. After getting home, I called her into my bedroom and closed the door. I couldn't hold back my anger and shouted at her, N What about the rest of the money? No one would be convinced all these candies are worth 20 dollars. What did you do with the rest of the money?”Paragraph 1:She was shocked at my reaction and burst into tears.Paragraph 2:My an^er disappeared instantly.2. Lungs nearly bursting, I stniggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached for the end of the pool. The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought noticing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out?Earlier that week I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide, those sorts of things. I was capable of more.So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked. This looks really easy for you. Why aren't you applying to-become a guard?''“The thought hadn't crossed my mind.”"Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class:Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me — You never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid. CPR(心肺复苏),and procedures for different land and water-based emergencies.Work started soon. A well-intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary".Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool. I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.

Why was this old woman makingsuch a fuss about an old copse which was of no useto anybody? She had written letters to the localpaper, even to a national, protesting about aprojected by-pass to her village, and, looking at amap, the route was nowhere near where she lived and it wasn't as if the area was attractive. Iwas more than puzzled, I was intrigued. The enquiry into the route of the new by-pass to the village was due to take place shortly, andI wanted to know what it was that motivated her.
So it was that I found myself knocking on a cottage door, being received by Mary Smith andthen being taken for a walk to the woods."I've always loved this place," she said, "it has a lot of memories for me, and for others. We allused it. They called it 'Lovers lane'. It's not much of a lane, and it doesn't go anywhereimportant, but that's why we all came here. To be awayfrom people, to be by ourselves," sheadded.
through the rain 精译对照注释版
Through The RainMariah Carey
Through The RainWhen you get caught in the rain with no where to run. When you're distraught and in pain without anyone. When you keep crying out to be saved, but nobody comes. And you feel so far away that you just can't find your way home. You can get there alone. It’s okay, what you say is,I can make it through the rain.I can stand up once again on my own.And I know that I'm strong enough to mend. And every time I feel afraid, I hold tighter to my faith. And I live one more day.And I make it through the rain. And if you keep falling down. Don't you dare give in.You will arise safe and sound. So keep pressing on steadfastly. And you'll find what you need to prevail. What you say isAnd when the rain blows, as shadows grow close.Don't be afraid. There's nothing you can't face. And should they tell you. You’ll never pull through.Don't hesitate. Stand tall and say.I can make it through the rain. And I live once again. And I live one more day.And I can make it through the rain.(Oh, yes you can)You will make it through the rain.(翻译)穿越风雨当你身处风雨,却发现无处可以躲藏。

Run Through the Rain
She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful brown haired, freckle-faced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the Earth it has no time to flow down the spout.
We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Wal-Mart. We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I get lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child come pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.
Her voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in. "Mom, let's run through the rain," she said.
"What?" Mom asked.
"Let's run through the rain!" She repeated.
"No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied.
This young child waited about another minute and repeated: "Mom,
let's run through the rain."
"We'll get soaked if we do," Mom said.
"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm.
"This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?"
"Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this, we can get us through anything!"
The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next
few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.
Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. Time when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If get wet, well maybe we just needed washing," Mom said. Then off they ran.
We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing. Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories. So,
don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories every day!
To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. I hope you still take the time to run through the rain.。
