如何布置词汇教学的作业

如何布置词汇教学的作业

我是一名中师毕业生,准确的说只有初中三年的英语学习经历,但自从2002年参加工作以来我基本上都参与的是英语教学。

从小学三年级到初中八年级的教材都接触过。

在我的教学生涯中,我对于英语教学中的词汇作业布置基本是以下几种:
一、直接抄写词汇及汉语意思。

二、根据汉语意思补全单词。

如f__ __d(食物)、
ch__psticks(筷子)。

三、选择合适的字母补全单词。

如h__lthyA、ee B、ea C、eo
四、英汉互译。

如:扫地()water the flowers( )
五、找出划线部分发音不同的一项。

如:()A、ho me B、
nose C、fox D、close
六、判断每组单词划线部分发音是否一致。

All-national character. Native element is shared by all the native speakers, regardless of whether he is a king under the crown, a fisherman on the sea or a vagrant on the street.2. Monosyllabicity. Most of the native element in Modem English has only one syllable. e.g. sun, cow, go, run, etc.3. Productivity. Most of the native elements are monosyllabic or root words and are semantically basic. Thus, they are productive in the sense that clusters of words are derived or compounded from them. For example, the word hand, has brought such derivatives and compounds as handy, handle, handkerchief, handiwork, handicraft, handful, handbook, handbarrow, handcuff, etc.4. Collocational extensiveness. The native element has a wide range of collocation. Many native words enter quite a number of expressions, idioms, phrases and proverbial sayings. For example, the word heel is found in the following units: Achilles’ heel (a vulnerable point), heel over head or head over heels (upside down), cool one’s heels (be kept waiting), show a clean pair of heels, take to one’s heels (run away),turn on one’s heels (turn sharply round), etc.5. Semantic polysemy. The native words are highly polysemic because they have gonethrough semantic changes due to their frequent use in daily life. For example, the verb tell conveys the following meanings: make known, express, explain, utter, confide in order, distinguish, count, reveal, scold, etc.6. High-frequency value. The native element forms the bulk of the most frequent elements used in any style of speech. Every writer uses considerably more native words than borrowed ones. Corpus investigations show that about 90 percent of the words in Shakespeare’s works and 94 percent of words in King James Bible are native words.7. Stylistic neutrality. Most native words are stylistically neutral and are equally fit to be used in a lecture, a poem, or when speaking to a child. This can be observed by a simple comparison, for example begin (neutral) vs. commence (formal).50、Answer the following question with appropriate illustration. What is the context and its role in shaping word meaning?Word meaning is sensitive to context, speakers and hearers usually rely heavily on context in constructing and interpreting word meaning. Contextual information can exert two major effects. More specifically, it influences the interpretation of a word, on the one hand, and speeds up lexical access, on the other. In most cases, the contextual aspect plays a crucial role in recognizing the specific meaning of a word.1. Context has the crucial role to resolve ambiguity.e.g. Please give me a hamburger, a cup of cola, and some chips.[a small piece of wood, the potato chip, or electronic circuit]I saw a tattoo of dragon on the back of that naked young guy,The big John has been accustomed to the constant tattoos,Hearing the sound of tattoo, soldiers returned to the quarter as quickly as possible.[tattoo1 a signal sounded on a drum or bugle to summon soldiers or sailors to their quarters at night;tattoo2 a display of military exercises offered as evening entertainment;tattoo3 a design that is drawn on someone’s skin using needles to make little holes and filling them with colored dye.]2. Context gives rise to the joking effect of puns.e.g. A: Why can’t a bicycle stand on its own?B: Because it is two-tired.[a thick piece of rubber of vehicles, to having used a lot of energy and wanting a rest]3. Context is beneficial to the understanding of deixis. There are three major kinds of deixis, that is, person deixis (I, you, we), spatial deixis (here, there), and temporal deixis (now, yesterday).e.g. I didn’t see her yesterday. It only with the contextual information can the reader know whom the personal deixis her refers to. And the same is the case with the deixises in the following example:Only contextual information can provides clues to the understanding of I, her and yesterday.51、Translate the following into Chinese and pay special attention to the bold typed part. His behavior means that you should stay a bit longer他的行为表明,你得再呆一段时间。

Sense Relations and Semantic Field Words are arbitrary symbols and are independent identities so far as their outer facet –spelling and pronunciation is concerned .But semantically, all words are related in one way or another .A word which is related to other words are related to them in sense ,hence sense relations .Semantic field is commonly felt to be an integral part of sense relations. Generally speaking, sense relations including polysemy, homonymy, synonymy, antonym and hyponymy. This chapter we will talk about semantic field and sense relations.Homonymy1、definitionHomonyms are generally defined as words different in meaning but either identical both in sound and spelling or identical only in sound or spelling.2、TypesPerfect homonyms: are words identical both in sound and spelling, but different in meaning.e.g. Bank The edge of the river, laken. An establishment for money business.(2) Homophones: are words identical only in sound but different in spelling andmeaning.Ee.g. dear/ / n. a loved persondeer/ /n. a kind of animalHomographs: are words identical only in spelling but different in sound and meaningE.g. lead / /领导/ /铅3、Origins(1).Chang in sound and spelling.e.g. .long v. to want very much, form langian(2) Borrowinge.g. ball n. a dancing party, borrowed form baler4、Rhetoric FeaturesAs homonyms are identical in sound or spelling particularly homophones, they are often employed to create puns for desired effect of, say, humor or ridicule.PolysemyPolysemy is a common feature peculiar to all natural language .this is particularly true of highly developed language like English. In modern English .an over whelming majority of words are polysemous .a casual glance of any pages of an English dictionary will justify the fact there are words that have two or three senses and the most commonly used ones can have as many as over a hundred. However, when a word is first coined it is always monogenic, but in the course of development , the same symbol must be used to express more meanings. The result is polysemy . Two approaches to polysemy .The problem of interrelation of the various meanings of the same word can be dealt with from two different angles! Diachronic approach and synchronic approach.Diachronic approach. From the diachronic point of view, ploys my is assumed to be the result of growth and development of growth and development of the semantic structure of one and same word . for example : spring (1)春天,there is a feeling of spring in the air today .今天可以感觉到一点春天的气息。

(2)活力,朝气;she wacked along with a spring in her step .她迈着轻快的步伐向前走去。

(3)弹性,the matters has lost its spring 那个床垫失去弹性了。

(4)跳:he turned off the alarm and spring out of bed .他止住闹钟,从床上跳了下来。

(5)突然说:I am sorry to spring it on you ,but I have been offered another job.我很抱歉这样告诉你,我另有工作了。

(6)突然出现。

Tears spring to her eyes .他眼里一下子涌出了泪水。

(7)营救;plans to spring the host ages have failed.营救人质的计划失败了。

Synchronic approach synchronically polysemy is viewed as the coexistence of various meaning of the same word in a certain historical period of time say , modern English . for example :《一》tank(1)箱,槽,罐。

(2)箱(或筒等)所装之物。

(3)坦克。

(4)(人工)水池,湖,水库(5)彻底失败,破产,倒闭。

(6)输掉(比赛)(尤指故意)《二》project (1)生产(或研究等)项目,方案,工程。

(2)专题研究。

(3)规划,计划。

(4)预测,推想。

(5)放映,投射。

(6)突出,外伸,伸出。

(7)展现,表现,确立。

Two process of development. The development of word –mending from Monsey to polysemy follows two courses, trad: tionally known as radiation and concatenation .Radiation is a semantic process in which the primary meaning stands at the centre and the secondary meanings proceed out of it in every direction like rays . for example : 《1》nut ;(1)坚果(2)螺母,螺帽(3)人的头(或大脑)(4)怪人,疯子(5)着迷的人;专注于某事的人(6)(故意)以头撞击(7)计算,找。

的答案《2》line (1)线条,线(2)界线,场界(3)皱纹,褶子(4)形体,形状,边线(5)排,行,列(6)队列,行列(7)生产线,流水线(8)家系,家族(9)字行,便条(10)台词,对白(11)管道,线路(12)电话线路(13)轨道,铁道,线路(14)方向,路线方位(15)路径,渠道(16)态度,看法(17)方法,方式(18)行业(19)防线,前线,战线。

Concatenation meaning …linking together ….is the semantic process in which the meaning of a word moves gradually away from its first sense by successive shifts until .for example: treacle (1)wild beast 野兽(2)remedy for bites of venovnous beasts 治有毒动物咬伤的药(3)antidote for poison or remedy for poison :解药(4)any effective remedy ;任何有效药方(5)(BRE)molasses 糖浆。

Unlike radiation where each of the derived meanings is directly connected to the primary meaning ,concatenation a process where each of the later meaning is related only to the preceding one like chains .Radiation and concatenation are closely related being different sages of the development leading to polysemy ,generally precedes ,concatenation .in many cases ,the two processes work together complementing each other .Synonymy一:Definition of synonyms:Synonyms can be defined as words different in sound and spelling but most nearly alike or exactly the same in meaning .Forexample:hearmindbrain1 head “头、头部,性命、智力、、顶端”|Use your head(动动脑筋)He made the story up out of his own head(这个故事是他想出来的)He stands at the head of the staircase(他站在楼梯上)2 mind:“头脑、心神、理智、决心、记忆He doesn‟t know his own mind(他犹豫不决)He‟s made up his mind to be a doctor (他下决心想当一名医生)3 brain “脑子、脑筋、智力”。
