Some people are in favor of the idea of spoken English est. they point out the fact that spoken English is a basic skill that every student should master. And test is an effective way to measure our ability. In particularly, oral English test is an important and effective way for Chinese students to improve. However, other people stand on different ground. They consider that spoken English test will increase the burden for students, especially for the senior high school students. They firmly figure out that test just is a form but could not make a great contribution for learners’ levels in English speaking. In addition, students have to waste much more time in preparing the test. In my opinion of the view, a test of spoken English is a great motive power to learn oral English well. The plan attracts wide attention and is discussed hotly. Some people don't think highly of it, they think a test of spoken English is not necessary. In the first place, the spoken English cannot be judged objectively. Some candidates who perform quite well may be given a low mark,on the contrary, some bad performers maybe get high marks. Secondly,it is very dlffieult to organize a test of spoken English. It requires lots of qualified examiners and time, which cannot become available easily. Some people hold different ideas. They think a test of spoken English is quite necessary. Speaking is an essential part of English learning, there is no excuse for not testing it. Such a test can motivate students practice their oral English more. I think a test of spoken English is a good practice. China has entered WTO, we will have more opportunities to communicate with foreigners orally. On some occasions we will be obliged to do so. If we cannot speak English fluently on such occasions,we may lose stone valuable business opportunities. A test of spoken English can urge us to practice more and improve the level of our spoken English. For one thing, through communication, the teacher will obtain useful information about students so as to improve his teaching method and performance. For another, the students can practice spoken English in class more often. They can also ask the teacher's advice on how to improve their methods of English study so that they can master the language more quickly and effectively.
Ladies and gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is my great honor to stand before you today to discuss a topic that has deeply impacted my life and the lives of countless others around the world: the power of film. Film, as a medium, has the unique ability to transcend language barriers, cultural differences, and even the limits of our own reality. It is a universal language that has the power to educate, inspire, and bring us together as a global community.Let's begin by acknowledging the sheer diversity of films that exist. From the silent era of Charlie Chaplin to the latest blockbusters with cutting-edge visual effects, the world of cinema has always been a reflection of our society. It is a mirror that reflects our triumphs, our struggles, our dreams, and our fears. Through this mirror, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and of others.Firstly, film has the power to educate us. Think of the documentaries that bring us face-to-face with the realities of poverty, war, and environmental degradation. These films serve as a wake-up call, making us aware of the world's most pressing issues. They provoke thought, inspire action, and encourage us to become more informed citizens. For instance, the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore has raised global awareness about climate change and has spurred countless individuals and organizations to take action.Furthermore, film has the power to inspire us. We all have those movies that have left a lasting impression on us, films that have motivated us to pursue our dreams, or films that have shown us the strength of the human spirit. Consider the story of Rocky Balboa, a man who defies all odds to become a boxing champion. His determination and perseverance inspire us to never give up, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be. Similarly, "The Pursuit of Happyness" starring Will Smith tells the story of a man who overcomes immense adversity to provide a better life for his son. This film teaches us the importance of love, hope, and resilience. In addition to education and inspiration, film serves as a bridge between cultures. When we watch a film from a different country, we gain a glimpse into the lives and perspectives of people who may be vastly different from us. This exposure to different cultures can foster empathy, understanding, and appreciation for our global community. For example, the Oscar-winning film "Life of Pi" directed by Ang Lee takes us on a journey across the Indian Ocean, allowing us to experience the rich culture and beliefs of the Indian people. By doing so, it encourages us to explore and appreciate the diversity of our world. Moreover, film has the power to challenge societal norms and sparksocial change. Throughout history, filmmakers have used their craft to address controversial issues and provoke discussion. The classic film "To Kill a Mockingbird," directed by Robert Mulligan, tackles the issue of racial injustice in the American South. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of equality and justice for all. Similarly, the documentary "13th" directed by Ava DuVernay examines the systemic issues that have led to the mass incarceration of African Americans in the United States. This film has sparked important conversations about criminal justice and racial inequality. In conclusion, the power of film is undeniable. It has the ability to educate, inspire, bridge cultures, and challenge societal norms. As we continue to produce and consume films, let us remember the potentialthat lies within this medium. Let us use it to create a more informed, compassionate, and interconnected world.Ladies and gentlemen, I urge you to embrace the power of film. Let it be a source of knowledge, a beacon of inspiration, and a bridge to understanding.
Part 1
MUM: Glad you're home. I was worried you'd marched over a cliff or something. Your dad went back to the office. He dropped your sister at a friend's house to do homework. If that band director wants to do all those fancy precision drills that go on for hours, he should just move to North Korea. Seriously, that man is a nut.
AMY: Mom, no, he's not.
MUM: It just seems like a lot of hours to be spending marching around with a French horn going nowhere.
AMY: Nowhere? We could end up at state championships.
MUM: State championships? Hmm. I made pot roast. Your favorite. You know, I could call up that Kim Jong Il wannabe and complain if you want. By the time you get home, you barely have time to eat and do your homework, let alone have any fun. You're only young once. You should be having a little fun.
1. you'd marched over a cliff
2. dropped your sister at a friend's house to do homework
——注释:drop somebody at somewhere to do something, 表示把某人送到哪里做什么。
3. end up at 最终达到
4. Kim Jong Il wannabe
5. By the time you get home, you barely have time to eat and do your homework。
6. You're only young once. You should be having a little fun.
