They can enrich the content of English teaching, diversify teaching method and add vividness to the teaching to achieve better results .Key words: body language;communicate;function;English teaching1 IntroductionHuman body language, including gestures and facial expressions, is used to communicate in countless subtle and complex ways. In the communication between teachers and students, nonverbal communication is more important than verbal one. Body language of both teachers and students plays its active role in teaching. Teachers need to work hard to captivate and sustain the attention of students in order to engage students. Students are often more attentive to what teachers do than to what they say.2 Functions of Body Language in English Teaching2.1 Stimulate the InterestThe strong study interest is the prime motive power of learning activity,it can stimulate and raise student’s study interest,therefore before each class, we should make good preparation so that expect the student can have the strong interest through a series of body language. For example,teach “What are you doing?”, you can design the following body language to the text content: let the student make writing, or dancing together with you,students do the body language with teacher, listen and do warm up in the activities to enter the study condition,then it has made the natural upholstery for the new class and stimulated stusents’study interest greatly.2.2 Enhance the Study EffectBody language is one of rich expressive languages in the teaching language, especially in English teaching, using the suitable body language not only can avoid using Chinese to explain English,but can promote the teachers and students to communicate, enhance the teaching efficiency.2.2.1 Digital teaching with the body languageIn elementary school, English number teaching mainly is1-20 ,which can be used frequently. In digital teaching, if the teacher carries on the machinery drill constantly, the student feels dull, then the goal can not be achieved and study English interest will be reduced. We can use the body language in the digital teaching as follows: at first, we can read number1-10 showing our hands at the same time. For example,“three” we can stretch out three fingers.Then the st udent think it is interesting and imitate immidiatly, while the teacher teach the student to say and correct the individual who show the wrong hand. Then let the student listen to the order, make the hand signal, have time freely to practice. In this way, the student will feel interesting and the teaching effect will be very good.2.2.2 V ocabulary teaching with the body languageThere are many words which can be drawn out by the movement in the elementary English books. Like verb “sing, dance, sleep, walk”; noun “bird, tiger, duck, cat, dog”; adjective “long--short, thin--fat, big—small” and so on. All may be taught by the proper movement directly. Sometimes the teacher also can exaggerate them to let the students feel interested. In this way, the teaching effect will be improved.2.3 Strengthen the Practice EffectThe psychology research tells us, the student working with the full brain can stimulate student’s cerebral cortex and then the content is not easy to be forgotten. Therefore, reviewing and reinforcing in the teaching, you can design some practices frequently with the body language, helping the student to consolidate content and arise interest. Teaching many kinds of occupations, let the student look your body language, guess “What am I?” you read, the student says “You are reading.” Such other practice, guess the word according to the shape of the mouth and so on. So long as the teacher designs attentively, consolidates practices through the body language, certainly can enhance the teaching efficiency.3 ConclusionBody language has the extremely vital role in the foreign language teaching. It is not only helpful to strengthen the correlation between teachers and students but also can raise student’s human relations ability and the langua ge application ability. So each English teacher must learn to use the body language teaching way, try to teach in English from the beginning to the end in class, together with the corresponding body language so that the students’ ability of English will be certainly and greatly improved.Bibliography:[1]Hu Chundong. The Use of Body Language in International Communication IntroductionAs the trend of globalization is strengthened step by step, international communication is frequent and important day by day. It is the process of communication between people from different cultural backgrounds. It can be divided into two types: verbal communication and nonverbal communication. People can communicate with each other not only through verbal communication but also through nonverbal communication. Body language is just an important part of nonverbal communication.“Research shows that when people meet someone for the first time, only 7% of their initial impact on others is determined by the content of what they say。

93% of their message is made up of body language (55%> and the tone of their voice<38%)” (Birdwhistell,1952: 79>. Body language is also interlinked with spoken language and a whole pattern of behavior from a person. As well as, various body language signs can complement each other to make a particular meaning clear or strengthen the meaning of what we convey. Thus body language is very crucial. Because every culture has its special body language, learning the application of body language in different culture backgrounds becomes increasingly essential.This paper intends to present its meaning and classification, functions, above all, displays its application in different countries, so that we can improve our communication skills and abilities by understanding it well. When someone communicates with foreigners, he can know their real thoughts from their body language.All in all, language is the component parts of culture. Studying and understanding body language is helpful to study language of foreign countries and avoid mistakes in intercultural communication.1 Literature ReviewWhen people speak of the communication, first they think of the verbal language. Actually, body language is used earlier than verbal language. So the research of body language is also important.The research of body language can trace back to 1872 when Charles Darwin (1872> publishes the book The Expressions of Emotions in Man and Animals. He thinks human will gradually obtain communication capacity through body information. Afterwards, people are beginning to recognize, in the foundation of the language, the group’s members through facial expressions, gestures, posture, and speech to relay the information to each other and complete language and nonverbal language decoding process. In the early of 20thcentury,Kreteschmer(1925> writes Physique and Character and Variation of Human Physique, as well as Efron (1941> writes Gesture and Environment. There book are the reformation of the research of body language. Then G. L. Trager(1948> and E. T. Hall(1948> propose thatpeople need to learn cultural characteristics in the other countries in international communication.R.L.Birdwhistell (1952>, as the founder of Kinesics, points out the concept of Kinesics, which is the study of nonlinguistic bodily movements, such as gestures and facial expressions, as a systematic mode of communication. And in 1970, he advances the theory that human communication needs and uses all the senses. The information conveys by human gestures and movements is coded and patterned differently in various cultures, and these codes can be discovered by scrutiny of particular movements within a social context in Kinesics and Context.In China, HuWenzhong (1988> writes Cross-cultural Social Intercourse and English Study, The Cross-cultural Social Intercourse Choose to Read, Culture and Social Intercourse, which analyzes body language in cross-cultural communication and explain the importance of it.In addition, Huang Xianjin explores the difference of non-verbal communication under different cultural background. And Cao Hejian researches the effect of body language in the words’ meaning.Today though the mankind’s language system has been highly flourishing, the study is still going on. Body language is one of the most useful ways in intercultural communication.2 Information about Body Language2.1DefinitionAs a kind of communicative tool, body language takes a complementary role to help people transfer information to improve communication, which is an indispensable power to break up language obstacles in intercultural communication. Body language, also called Kinesics, is the complementary of language and belongs to the scope of nonverbal communication. It cooperates with verbal language to express information more accurately. 2.2 Functions of Body LanguageThe study of psychology shows when two people do face–to-face communication, more than 50% information of communication are finished by mute body language. Moreover, because body language is international,people coming from different countries can communicate by body language even if they can’t speak each other’s language. Why do people see this phenomenon? It is because body language plays an important role in repeating, complementing, regulating, contradicting.2.2.1 RepeatingSome of the nonverbal information can be repeated with oral language. Movements of head and hands are always playing a role of strength when talking to others. For example, sometimes when you say the number “one”, you put out one of your fingers to help you express your idea. Samovar said: “The most important communicational tool used by human beings is of course language。

However, nonverbal language also plays a considerable role in our daily life. Body language is a kind of nonverbal language. According to Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner’s English Dictionary[5th Edition], body language is the way you show your feelings or thoughts by means of positions or movements rather than words.Body language is one kind of nonverbal communication. The Use of Body lauguage in the English teaching

The use of body language in the teaching of primary EnglishAbstract: In the education of primary school English, if the teacher can use the body language accurately and properly, and can take advantage of the facial expression, gesture, eye contact and body distance, then these body languages may be a great help to their organization of the education. In this way, it can be an aid to enhance the teacher-student interaction, highlight the key points and improve the teaching effect, etc. The oral language and written language have been in use for a long time in the language learning, and the nonlinguistic (mainly the body language) isn’t regarded as an important mean to communicate in the class. According to a research learnt by the USA, more than 90% of the information is delivered by pitch of voice and facial expression in the communication of emotion and attitude. Therefore, we are in a position to make a conclusion that the body language has made a great contribution to the English teaching and actual communication. In the New Curriculum Reform, we make it a new rule that teaches must play the leading role as well as fully reflect the students’ cognitive main role. Task Based Language Teaching is applied in the teaching of primary English. In the class, the teacher may make it more vivid if he could use the bogy language properly, such as the expression, gesture, eye contact and body distance. The body language can be not only thought of as substitution for the communication function of the language, but also can be treated as a way to expand the communication circle and to hide the inner emotion, in this way, the communication be more dramatic and more concise.In the English teaching, the utilization of body language for the teacher has the following functions:1, During the process of class, it benefits for the bilateral communication, and helps to stress the important point, thus to improve the students’understanding and memorizing of the knowledge.2, The feedback of teaching information.3, Control the students’ act in the class. As regard to the students, body language isan effective method for the English learning and therefore to enhance their communication skills.Key words: primary English, body language, aid摘要:在小学的英语教学中,如果老师能够准确而又适当的利用体态语,并且运用面部表情,手势,眼神以及身体距离等技巧,这将有利于老师更好的组织教学,增进老师与学生之间的感情,提高学生的学习热情,并且突出英语教学的重点知识,这样便可以提高教学的效果。

In terms of English teaching , teachers should try their best to arouse the students’ interest in order that they can lea rn better. There are many ways to arouse the students’ interest and help them to learn better, body language used in English teaching is one of them.Body language is an important media through which people communicate with each other. It refers to facial expressions, gesture, eye contact and body distance that people use to express their feelings in communication.It is important to note that body language has different meanings in different cultures. How we can interpret body language depends on the situation, the culture, the relationship we have with the person as well as the gender of the other.In school education, body language plays a positive role in shap ing the students’ characters. Teachers are usually respected, and therefore, what or how teachers say and do will be possibly imitated by students (sometimes subconsciously). In a word, teachers’ graceful body language helps to improve students’ artistic-appreciation and moral character. If the students learn body language well, they will surely have a better interpersonal relation. As a matter of fact, teachers’ friendly appearance can greatly activate the students’ passion for learning.This paper is an analysis of body language in English teaching. First, it points out the importance of body language in common communication; second, it discusses the students’ psychology in classroom, and the effect of body language to students; then the author makes a list to express the significance of body language in classroom; at last, it’s about the specific use of body language in English classroom.2. Body Language and English TeachingThe study on body language both at home and abroad focuses mainly on human interaction, especially on public speech and lisping persons. In fact, body language also plays an important role in classroom teaching. Many teachers and educators have explored a lot into the body language in classroom.2.1 The Significance of Body Language in Classroom2.1.1 To Create a Comfortable Learning EnvironmentEducational psychology research shows that emotion influence students’ intellectual development; Teachers’ emotion constricts the change of students mood in the classroom. Therefore, teachers in the classroom should always pay attention to children’ psychol ogical changes and mood fluctuations. And t eachers’ face, eyes, posture, gestures invariably affect mood and attitude of students. Teachers’ positive emotion will promote the students’ intellectual actions and create a relax ing and comfortable environment.When learning second language, Young children who feel comfortable and relaxed always make better achievement than those under pressure. Teachers’ clean decent dresses and amiable expression will help children have confidence in learning English. Their learning will not be disturbed from negative emotions such as tension and anxiety, so it is easier for them to accept the content of learning, and to achieve the desired effect. For example, before the English class, we can sing a English greeting song, and children can shake hands, clap or hug, it is not only to attract the attention of all children, but also allow them to reduce psychological burden. So Body language not only attracts the attention of students, but also creates the environment for students to learn English, it is very useful for English Teaching.2.1.2 To Stimulate S tudents’ Enthusiasm and InterestInterest can improve the quality of English teaching widely, teachers with warm smile and good expression can help students relieve their psychological barriers and stimulate students to practice their oral English. Intuitive and vivid body language can make students become more interested in English. The strong study interest is the prime motive power for English learning which can stimulate and raise student’s interest.Therefore before each class, we should make good preparation so that students can have strong interest through a series of body language. For example, there is an article in primary school English textbooks: father and mother, help each father. Sister and brother, play together! We can add action, clenching fists (left thumb on behalf of father, the right thumb on behalf of mother, left little finger on behalf of sister, right little finger on behalf of brother), singing “father and mother”and showing out the two thumbs; singing “help each other” and the left and right thumb merger together; singing “sister and brother”and show out the two little fingers; singing “play together”, the two little fingers bending to play with each other . Students are actingout while listening to the tape and songs, which is easy and interesting for students to learn.To develop children’s English profi ciency, teachers should supply a variety of opportunities for young children in English teaching. How to stimulate children’ enthusiasm to participate in activities? How to take the initiative to obtain information in English learning? We should not only use a variety of teaching aids, but also need teachers’ smiles, high emotions and warm tone to influence each child, so that they do positive responses and learn the language in an interactive and relaxed atmosphere. For example, in order to make children learn English figure 1-10, teachers should choose a catchy morning exercise: One and Two up and nodded, Three and Four shake your head, Five kick the legs, Six bend waist , Seven, Eight jumps, Nine and Ten love to sleep. In this way, students’ interest has been greatly stimulated.2.1.3 To Encourage StudentsIn primary school, students’ vocabulary is limited, but body languages play a bridge role. This particular form of communication to foster the feelings of teachers and students can improve the students’ language skills, it also has great influence on personality development of students.Students seek the sense of accomplishment from completing the work and its success was brought about by the teachers’ recognition and prais e. If children gain constant achievements in learning, children will be proud of awards and success. However, if teachers have no proper teaching methods and especially ignore the students’ achievements, children are likely to form a sense of inferiority.Children will inevitably make mistakes in the course of learning English because they are studying a completely different language. Especially in pronunciation, some students o ften say the” frog “as” floger”, at this moment, we should not criticize or blame them because that will only inhibit children’s interest, undermin e their motivation and self-confidence. When children are wrong, we can touch his head gently, and tell him “have a try again?”. We should give support and encouragement to children.In addition, for example, in the teaching process, sometimes, students will certainly rush to answer the question. In order to know if the students have mastered the knowledge, teacher can ask students to answer alone, teachers can say like this: raise your hands and answer my question, while handing the right forearm to indicateto the students, so the students will be conscious to stop free speech. Body language attracts a lot of students to be enthusiastic, so they do not feel difficult to learn English. Body language improves the interest in learning English.2.2 The Specific Use of Body Language2.2.1 Facial ExpressionsFacial expression is a kind of “Esperanto”, in human society, one person’s emotion can be reflected from facial expressions. If teachers make good use of facial expression in the classroom for different situations, it is possible to effectively regulate the classroom atmosphere, enhance the effectiveness of teaching.Teachers should use their facial expression properly in class. As a teacher, you can make full use of body language to respond students’ different answer s, when students answer correctly, the teacher is extremely happy, that is a great prize; when students’ answer is wrong, the teachers should smile so that students do not feel discouraged, and then motivate himself to work harder. On the contrary, the rigid facial expression will make students feel confused. The use of a smile is indeed important. For most students, learning English is difficult, boring and hard to understand. It requires teachers make students optimistic, confident and positive, the smile exactly can do it.2.2.2 Eye ContactBody language is more than facial expression. Eyes play a large part, too. Eyes are the window to the soul. You can see his inner doubts, likes and dislikes and attitudes in favor or not from a person’s eyes. In drama , movies, fiction, poetry, or in really life, eyes have always been accepted as a major source of communication. Eyes have held a strange fascination for us. So in the facial expressions, eyes can be expressive, and delicate. For example, if students in the classroom from time to time aimlessly stare at the ceiling or the window, eyes dull, it shows that they are distracted. All those show that students’ eyes are full of great secrets.In class, teachers should look around the classroom from time to time so that it can arouse their sense of participation. Of course, you can use this way to remind some individual students who are absent minded in class. In addition, eye contact is useful for students in psychological investigation, and their own teachingeffectiveness; it can also inspire and encourage students to speak out. For example, when students are not concentrating their minds in a class, the teacher staring at him with severe eye, would make him pay more attention to the class and classroom effect will be different. Eyes will be applied arts, teaching is indeed of great help.Also there are other examples can explain the effect of eye. Not having eye contact means shyness, lacking confidence, not satisfied with the answer or intending to end the conversation; Raising the eyebrows means surprised; Eye contact means encouragement, conversing, or “stop doing that”!2.2.3 GestureUsing gestures in class not only can transmit thoughts and express feelings, but also can increase persuasion and appeal of the audio language. Another example: Palm down and pressing downward means sit down; Palm up and raising the hand up means stand up; Putting tips of fingers of one hand against the palm of the other hand which is flat and parallel to the ground means stop; Placing the index finger to the lips means silence, be quiet. In classroom teaching, teacher can use gestures to show that he wants students to participate in activities. For instance: when teaching the English sentences, the teacher can point to his clothing or may carry a teaching aid to teach “this is a jacket / coat / map / bag /...” “He is tall” when lifting hands high. “She is five years old” when showing five fingers. In addition, the simple gestures can also express as “Come here”; “It’s OK” and so on. W hen teaching “watermelon”, teachers can make the action like holding the watermelon; when teaching “doll” he can do the actions like holding the baby sleep. It is easy for students to understand and firmly master the knowledge, at the same time; it is more interesting in learning English.In short, gesture is not only a body movement but it also is very rich in expression . Therefore, in the classroom teaching, the body language should be used as many as possible.2.2.4 Body DistanceBody distance is significant. It is also a kind of silent body language. In classroom teaching, teacher’s different distance from the student will give students a different psychological feeling and make different effects. Some studies show that when the teacher stood 2-3.5 meters away from the students, it will produce a control effect; if a student does not pay attention to the class, for this case, as long as the teacher impliesthe intention to walk to the student, it will make the students’ misconduct quickly changed.In English class, when doing dictation exercises, it is appropriate for teachers to move around in order to make students pay attention to the class and arouse their positive emotions. If the teachers keep a long distance from students, perhaps it is difficult to produce this effect. Some teachers have repeatedly mentioned that a big classroom is less effective than a small class teaching in a school. Therefore, paying attention to the application of body distance in classroom can improve teaching effectiveness.3. The Application of Body Language in English Teaching3.1 The Application of Body Language in ListeningAs technology advances and trade and exchange between countries increase, it is becoming more and more important to understand spoken English in many situations such as face-to-face, on telephone, in business meetings, speeches, television, and so on.To understand others is a basic purpose in English teaching, and teachers often train students’ listening accordingly. We are teaching our students English not only to help them pass exams, but also to enable them to use English in real life. It is important to know English that students will hear and the listening exercises we do in class. In this process, if the body language is used, the effect will be better. When beginning a new lesson, teachers narrate the story outline in English. The body language may help. For example, a teacher can stretch his arms slowly when he says, “She is in a big room”; he can open hi s eyes widely with mouth open when he says “She is such a beautiful lady”. It is obvious that the students will have such an impression: She is very beautiful indeed; a teacher who imitates the crying or the movement of the animals under the premise of teaching order will surely achieve a better effect. If teachers put their hands together and put them under the side of head while closing their eyes, it means “ I am sleeping ”.3.2 The Application of Body Language in SpeakingSpoken language is one of the important ways to communicate, it is one’s ability that the students will be judged upon most in real–life situations. It is such animportant part of everyday interaction and most often the first impression of a person is based on his/her ability to speak fluently and comprehensibly. So, as teachers, we have the responsibility to prepare students as much as possible to be able to speak in English both in the real situation and in the testing room. we should try to develop the students’ability of speaking. In fact they are helped to reach the aim in a certain degree by their teacher’s body language.Generally speaking, body language can arouse and sustain students’interest of learning and using English. For example in the first lesson Chapter One is about the time when the new students meet at first time, and they don’t know each other. So the teacher can introduce himself first, such a s: “Hello, everyone, nice to meet you here. Now I’ll introduce myself to you. My name is Tom, I like playing basketball, for it makes me much stronger; I like reading books, for reading makes one perfect”. During the introduction, the teacher smiles when he says hello to the class; he shakes hands with some students saying “Nice to meet you”; He writes name down on the blackboard; he imitates the action of dribbling and shooting at the basketball… Usually, the proper employment of body language in different situations will result in attractive and successful lesson.In English class, the teachers should not only use body languages themselves, but also ask students to use them according to the different situations. The teacher can create a circumstance for th e students to practice: “Mary and Mike are new classmates. They are walking together in the street, and they meet one of Mike’s old friends--Peter. Then Peter and Mary are introduced to each other by Mike.”After the students’practice the dialogue is introduced naturally from it. Usually, the application of body language in different situations will result in an attracting and successful lesson.3.3 The Application of Body Language in ReadingThe purpose of English teaching is to train students’ preliminary ability of using spoken and written English. In school, we lay emphasis on the reading ability which will be beneficial for students’ further study.When reading the sentences, attention should be paid to where to speak softly, emphasize, and raise or lower our tone. To make it clear, we can imitate the strong or soft pats that are used in music teaching, which means to use the arcs to represent different tones. Generally speaking, we use falling tones in declarative and special interrogative sentence, first rising tones and then falling tones in the choosinginterrogative sentence. The students in middle school are not often accustomed to this and always get confused, however, with the help of body language, they can solve the problem much more easily. For example, they use gestures. As they read the yes-no questions,they raise their hands in rising tones and lower in falling tones. After training for some times, as soon as they read the sentences, they will remind themselves of the gestures. As a result, there will be no problems in rightly reading the sentences at all.In a word, the vivid gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning, which will surely play an active part in improving the students’ readi ng ability.3.4. The Application of Body Language in WritingWriting is one of the four basic skills of learning language, and it is such an important skill that we can even say without it, people can’t communicate with others. Not only should the students get some English knowledge and vocabularies, but also the ability to communicate in spoken and written English as what is mentioned in the teaching programs. To some extent, writing is much more important than speaking, for it is not limited by space and time. Since the students learn English as a means for communication, they should have the ability of writing.English teachers should use every possible method to avoid students’ feelings of being dull and tiring. This is the same to the writing. Teachers use different methods in order to improve students’ writing ability and the application of body language can deepen the object impression, which is beneficial to enhance the students’writing ability. Instead of their complete imagination, the students are deeply impressed by the body movement of teachers and themselves, which surely leads to a better article.4.ConclusionLeaning English needs practice. The classroom time is very precious and should be cherished, during which the students should practice as much as possible. To make use of the limited time, teachers are required to adopt some effective methods. In teaching, body language can always run through teaching, whether it is to teach letters, words, sentences or songs, rhymes, we can use physical movement to optimize teaching. In addition, the use of classroom language or dialogue exchanges, the use ofbody language, can play the role of Aesthetic. All in all, the use of body language can not only attract students’ attention, but also deepen their impression and imagination.Based on the analysis, the writer concludes that body language has extremely vital role in foreign language teaching. It is not only helpful to strengthen the correlation between teachers and students but also can raise student’s language application ability. So each English teacher must learn to use the body language, try to teach students in English during the class, together with the corresponding body language so that the students’ ability of English will be certainly and greatly improved.In short, in English teaching activities, teachers’ encouraging look, and a touch of action make children feel love, support and trust. We should use every opportunity to effectively use body language to help organize teaching, stimulate interest in learning and improve teaching effectiveness. But if body language is used inappropriately, it can cause children to feel confused. Over time, children will lose interest in learning. 【例1】铺设一条自来水管道,甲队单独铺设8天可以完成,而乙队每天可铺设50米。

如果甲、乙两队同时铺设,4天可以完成全长的2/3,这条管道全长是多少米?()A. 1000米B. 1100米C. 1200米D. 1300米【答案:C】常规解法:设乙需要X天完成这项工程,依题意可列方程。

(1/8+1/X)×4=2/3。

解得X=24。

Body language is a form of nonverbal communication that we use every day. It includes facial expressions, gestures, posture, and eye movements, among other things. In English writing, body language can play a crucial role in conveying emotions, attitudes, and intentions. In this article, we will explore the significance of body language in English writing and how it can enhance the clarity and impact of our communication.First and foremost, body language can add depth and nuance to our written communication. When we describe a character's body language in a story or novel, it helps the reader to visualize the scene and understand thecharacter's emotions and motivations more vividly. For example, instead of simply stating that a character is angry, we can describe how they clench their fists, furrow their brows, and glare at the other person. This not onlypaints a clearer picture for the reader but also creates a stronger emotional connection.Moreover, body language can be used to conveysubtleties that words alone may not capture. In dialogue,for instance, the use of body language can indicate sarcasm, sincerity, hesitation, or confidence. A character who crosses their arms and avoids eye contact may appear defensive or closed off, while someone who leans in and makes direct eye contact may come across as assertive or sincere. By incorporating these details into our writing,we can enrich the reader's understanding of the characters and their interactions.In addition, body language can be a powerful tool for creating tension and suspense in a narrative. A character's nervous fidgeting, pacing, or avoiding eye contact canbuild anticipation and hint at underlying conflicts or secrets. Similarly, a character's confident stride, relaxed posture, or steady gaze can convey a sense of control or dominance. By leveraging these physical cues, we can heighten the dramatic impact of our storytelling and keepthe reader engaged.Furthermore, body language can be used to establish cultural context and authenticity in English writing. Different cultures have distinct norms and gestures that reflect their values, beliefs, and social customs. By incorporating culturally specific body language into our writing, we can bring authenticity to our characters and settings. For example, a character from a traditional Asian culture may bow as a sign of respect, while a characterfrom a Western culture may offer a firm handshake. These cultural nuances can add richness and depth to our storytelling.In conclusion, body language is a vital element of effective communication in English writing. By skillfully incorporating descriptions of body language into our narratives, dialogue, and character development, we can enhance the clarity, emotional resonance, and cultural authenticity of our writing. Whether we are crafting a novel, a short story, or a piece of nonfiction, the use of body language can elevate the impact and power of our words.As writers, let us harness the potential of body language to create compelling and immersive experiences for our readers.。

八年英语body language作文Body language is an integral part of communication and has been a fundamental aspect of the English language for many years. As a student of English for the past eight years, I have had the opportunity to observe and analyze the various forms of body language that are commonly used in English-speaking contexts. In this essay, I will explore the significance of body language in the English language and how it has evolved over the course of my language learning journey.One of the most notable aspects of body language in the English language is the use of hand gestures. Throughout my studies, I have observed that English speakers often use their hands to emphasize or accentuate their speech. For example, when expressing excitement or enthusiasm, individuals may use wide, sweeping gestures to convey the intensity of their emotions. Conversely, when expressing uncertainty or hesitation, they may use more subtle, contained movements, such as a gentle shrug or a slight tilt of the head.Another important aspect of body language in the English languageis the use of eye contact. In many English-speaking cultures, maintaining eye contact is seen as a sign of confidence and engagement. During conversations, I have noticed that English speakers often make direct eye contact with their conversation partners, which can help to establish a sense of trust and rapport. Conversely, avoiding eye contact can be interpreted as a sign of disinterest or discomfort.Facial expressions are also a crucial component of body language in the English language. Throughout my studies, I have observed that English speakers use a wide range of facial expressions to convey their emotions and attitudes. For instance, a warm, genuine smile can indicate friendliness and approachability, while a furrowed brow can suggest confusion or concern. Additionally, the use of subtle facial cues, such as a raised eyebrow or a slight tilt of the head, can provide valuable insights into an individual's thought processes and decision-making.Another important aspect of body language in the English language is the use of posture and body positioning. I have noticed that English speakers often use their body positioning to convey confidence, authority, and engagement. For example, individuals who stand with their shoulders back and their chin held high may be perceived as confident and self-assured, while those who slouch or cross their arms may be seen as defensive or disinterested.Throughout my eight years of studying English, I have also observed the ways in which body language can be used to convey cultural and social norms. For instance, in some English-speaking cultures, a firm handshake is seen as a sign of respect and confidence, while in others, a more gentle, subtle touch may be more appropriate. Similarly, the use of personal space and physical proximity can vary widely across different English-speaking contexts, with some cultures placing a greater emphasis on maintaining a comfortable distance between individuals.One of the most fascinating aspects of body language in the English language is its ability to transcend linguistic barriers. Even for individuals who may not be fluent in English, the use of body language can often serve as a powerful means of communication. For example, a simple nod of the head or a gentle smile can convey understanding and agreement, even in the absence of spoken language.Moreover, the study of body language has become increasingly important in the field of English language learning. As students of the language, we are often encouraged to pay close attention to the nonverbal cues and gestures used by native English speakers, as these can provide valuable insights into the cultural and social norms that underpin the language.In conclusion, body language has been a fundamental aspect of the English language for many years, and its importance continues to grow as the language evolves and expands across the globe. Through my eight years of studying English, I have come to appreciate the rich and nuanced ways in which body language can be used to convey meaning, emotion, and cultural identity. As I continue to deepen my understanding of the English language, I am excited to continue exploring the fascinating world of body language and its role in shaping the way we communicate and connect with one another.。

I. IntroductionAs everyone knows, the classroom teaching is one of the most important ways that the students learn English. In English classroom teaching, teachers have to arouse the students' interest so that they may learn better. There are many ways to arouse students’ interest, body language is one of effective ways.Body language is an important media through which people communicate with each other. It refers to the patterns of facial expressions and gestures that people use to express their feelings in communication. In school education, body language plays a positive role in cultivating students’ characters. For, teachers are usually respected, and factually, what or how the teachers say and do will be possibly imitated by the students. In a word, teachers’ graceful body language helps to improve students’ artistic-appreciation and moral characters. If students develop a wonderful body language, which will possibly leads them to form an optimistic and active feeling. They will surely have a more smooth interpersonal relation.The affection of teachers' body language on the students is reflected not only by establishing a good example, but also shortening the teacher-student estrangement by which a more harmonious studying atmosphere is created. As a matter of fact, teachers’ friendly appearance can greatly encourage students’ studying enthusiasm. Furthermore, the characteristics of theoretic and abstraction of knowledge also require the vivid, dramatic and an accessible gestures to make it specific and figurative. As a result, students’ interest is motivated and the effect of teaching is greatly improved.II.The Necessity and Importance of Using Body Language in English Teaching1. Brief ViewBody language is used by people for sending messages to one another. It is very useful because it can help you make yourself easily understood. When you are talking with others, you are not just using words, but also using expressions and gestures. For example, waving one’s hand is to say “Good Bye”. Nodding the head means agreement, and shaking the head means disagreement.2. Functions in English TeachingThe functions of body language can be seen in the following sides:(1) Teaching in class. It is valid for teachers and students to exchange their feelings. At the same time, it’s good for students to remember and grasp what they have learned.(2) Feedback the message of teaching and studying.(3) Control the behavior of class students.3. The Necessity and Importance of Using Body LanguageEnglish teaching is a key part in school education. With the reform of English teaching methods, more and more English teachers organize the teaching process so that they may realize the communicated English. The communicated English means that teachers instruct the students and explain questions basically in English, and the students are also required to use English in class. Contemporarily, however, the students in the middle school can't speak very well; they can’t understand why they should use different tones in different time or situation; their vocabulary and expressive ability are limited too. These limitations made it difficult to realize the communicated English in the class. According to the students’ present level and practical situation, body language is required. For example, when a teacher gives an instruction, say: “You two, please come to the blackb oard.” The students can easily understand it if the teacher looks at (or points to) some two students. Then, the teacher points to the blackboard. The students will carry out the order without obstacle even if they don't hear the key words “blackboard” cle arly.III. Usage in English TeachingAs we know, body language is very important, how can we use the body language? A teacher can combine spoken English with body language together when he teaches English. Frankly speaking, teacher can use body language as possible as he can.Teachers can use their facial expression reasonably in class. Smiling shows teacher’s friendly attitude to their students. How can teachers bring their smiling to the students? A teacher should tell his students some humorous stories which he has read. What is more, a teacher can encourage his/her students to act out some funny, lovely and interesting short plays or to tell others some interesting tales and so on. Being a teacher, he should get into the habit of humorous and optimistic life view.??Sometimes, students’ behaviors are not so good as the teachers have expected in their class. They can keep still and stare at him or her, which shows their anger or attention to him or her. Then his students must realize what he cares about. As a result, teacher can go on with his lesson without stopping class for a long time. Sometimes, the students who are shy dare not answer the teachers’ questions loudly. At that time, a teacher can show his smiling to encourage students efficiently. In the end, he will finish the class smoothly.In some classes, a teacher can inspire his students to do some interesting tries. For example, when studying something about water, teachers can make students do some tries like this: first, fill in a glass with some water; second, cover the glass with a piece of thick paper, and put one of his hands on the piece of paper; third, put the upside down. At last, move his hand away slowly. Now the teacher can ask students some questions about water in time, because all of them may pay all of their attention to the try. At that time, all students may be very interested in the try and they are very excited about it. They will try their best to finish their tasks to answer the questions, listen to their teacher carefully and think about it attentively.1. Helps to Improve Listening??? To understand others is a basic purpose in English teaching, and teachers often train students’ listening accordingly. In this process, if body language is used, the effect will be better. When beginning a new lesson, the teacher narrates the story outline in English. The body language may help. For example, a teacher can stretch his arms slowly when he says “She is in a very big room”; he can open his eyes widely with mouth opened w hen he says “She is so beautiful a lady”. As a result, students will have such an impression: she is very beautiful indeed; a teacher who imitates the crying or the movement of the animals under the premise of teaching order will surely achievea better effect.2. Helps to Improve SpeakingSpoken language is one of the important ways to communicate, so teachers should try to develop students’ ability of speaking. Factually, they are helped to reach the aim in a certain degree by their teachers’ body lan guage.The contemporary emphasis is gradually laid on spoken English teaching. The first lesson of every unit in Senior English begins with dialogue. The teaching programs require the teachers to organize the class to practice English according to the characteristics of dialogue. Generally speaking, body language can arouse and sustain students’ interest in learning and using English. In the English teaching, teachers should not only use body languages themselves, but also ask students to use them according to the different situation.3. Helps to Improve ReadingWhen reading the sentences, attention should be paid to where to speak softly, emphasize, and raise or lower our tone. Generally speaking, use falling tones in declarative and special interrogative sentence, first rising tones and then falling tones in the choosing interrogative sentence. Students in middle school are not often accustomed to and always confuse them. However, with the help of body language, they can solve the problem much more easily.In a word, the vivid gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning, which will surely play an active part in improving the students' reading ability.4. Helps to Improve WritingTo get rid of students’ feel ings of being dull and tiring, an English teacher has to use every possible method. This is the same to the writing. Teachers use different method in order toimprove the students' ability of writing, among which, the application of body language can deepen the object impression, such is magnificent in developing the students' writing ability.The linguist Franklin ever said, “Tell me, I'll forget; teach me, I'll remember; involve me and I'll learn.” If students are asked to write an unfamiliar compositio n, they would probably be unable to and feel discouraged. However, students can write excellent articles if they have the experience. In and out of class, teachers should ask students to participant some English-related activities, and then ask them to write it down.V.ConclusionLeaning English needs practice. The 45 minutes in class is very precious and should be cherished, during which the students should practice as much as possible. To exert the limited time, teachers are required to adopt some effective methods. The use of body language can not only attract the students’ attention, but also deepen their impression and imagination. The use of body language is completely up to the standard of audiovisual teaching principle, so teachers should try to teach in English from the beginning to the end, together with the corresponding body language. In the end, the students’ ability of English will be certainly and greatly improved.References:[1]Gu?Xueliang.The?Basic?Technical?Training?in?English?Teaching[M].Hangzhou: Hangzhou?University?Press,?19 98.[2]Liu?Yongfa,?Liu?Xuan'en. Generally speaking, the body language can arouse and sustain the students' interest of learning and using English. In the English class, the teachers should not only use body languages themselves, but also ask the students to use them according to the different situation. Take it for example, the first lesson in Unit one, Book one is about the time when the new students first meet, and they don't know each other. So a teacher can introduce himself first, such as: "Hello, everyone, nice to meet you here. Now I'll introduce myself to you. My name is Arthur. I like playing basketball, for, it makes me much stronger; I like playing chess, for, it makes me more clever; and I like reading books, for, 'reading makes one perfect'". During the introduction, the teacher should use the new vocabularies and sentence structures together with a vivid expression and mating gestures as possibly as he can. He smiles when he says hello to the class; he shakes hands with some students saying "Nice to meet you"; he writes name down on the blackboard; he imitates the action of dribbling and shooting at the basketball, playing chess and turning pages to explain his hobby. After his introduction, the teacher can create a circumstance for the students to practice:"Mary and Jack are new classmates. They are walking together in the street, and they meet one of Jack's old friends, Yang Pei. Then Yang Pei and Mary are introduced to each other by J ack." After the students' practice the dialogue is introduced naturally from it. Usually, the application of body language in different situations will result in an attracting and successful lesson.The purpose of Senior English teaching is to train the students' preliminary ability of using spoken and written English. In the senior school, we lay emphasis on the reading ability that serves the students' further study. Generally speaking, we use falling tones in declarative and special interrogative sentence, first rising tones and then falling tones in the choosing interrogative sentence. The students in the middle school are not often accustomed to and always confuse them, however, with the help of body language, they can solve the problem much more easily. For example, they use gestures. As they read the choosing interrogative sentence, they raise their hands in rising tones and lower in falling tones. After training for some times, as soon as they read the sentences, they will remind themselves of the gestures. As a result, there will be noproblems in rightly reading the sentences at all.In a word, the vivid gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning, which will surely play an active part in improving the students' reading ability.The use of body language can not only attract the students' attention, but also deepen their impression and imagination. The use of body language is completely up to the standard of audio-visual teaching principle, so teachers should try to teach in English from the beginning to the end, together with the corresponding body language. Teaching in English becomes the main method of teaching. But Chinese students are good at reading and writing, the ability in listening, speaking is not strong. In such circumstances, we can strive to create a learning environment in English and inspire students to learn, and help them learn. There are many ways to arouse the students’ interest and help them to learn better, body language used in English teaching is the best one of them.Ⅱ. The necessity and important of using body language in English teaching .English teaching is an important part of the school education. Nowadays, the children in preschool have learned some simple English words and sentences. Because they are very young, many English words must through body language to teach them. For example, when we teach “each part of the body”, the use of body language will help the students master what they have learn better. That is to say, when we teach the word “nose”, we can touch our nose with our hand; when we teach the “mouth”, we can touch our mouth with hand. The students in the middle school can’t speak very well, neither can they understand why they should use different tones in different time or situation, theirvocabulary and expressive ability are limited too. These limitations made it difficult to realize the Communicated English in the classes. According to the students’present level and practical situation, body language is required. For instance, when a teacher gives an instruction: “You two, please come to the blackboard.”The students can easily understand it if the teacher looks at (or points to) some two students. Then, the teacher points to the blackboard. The students will carry out the order without obstacle even if they don’t hear the key words “blackboard” clearly.From the above, we can learn that the use of body language in English teaching is necessity and important. The use of body language, not only for students to establish a good example, but also shortening the gap between teachers and students. Also creating a harmonious atmosphere for learning. Indeed, teachers can use it to greatly encourage the students’ studying enthusiasm. In addition, some theoretical and abstract knowledge also need a vivid and clear gesture to make it specific and figurative.Ⅲ. The applying of body language in listening, speaking, reading and writing.In this thesis, the possibility and the effect of using body language in listening, speaking, reading and writing will be further discussed.1.Body language helps to improve listening.The teachers often speak of the four skills----- listening, speaking, reading and writing. That means each of them is important. You can’t say that you have mastered the language without any one of them. Listening, one of the means of language. Communication is used most widely in people’s daily lives. About 45% of an adult’s time concerns listening to other people, listening to the radio, listening to the music. In linguistics, giving the students a lot of listening activities is a good way of enlarging their vocabulary. The Greek philosopher Epicteus ever said “Nature has given man one tongue and two ears so that he may hear twice as much as he speaks”From the saying, we can learn how important the listening is in our daily life. To improve the ability of the students’ listening is basic purpose of English teaching. In this process, if we can use body language, the effect will be much better. For example, when we have the listening part of the lesson of “How do you make a banana smoothie”, the teachers can act out the process of making a banana smoothie with the tape. That is to say, when the tape speak “peel three bananas”, the teachers act out peeling the banana and index three fingers to tell the students the correct amount of the banana is three. So the students can understand better with the help of teacher’s body movement,the effect is listening can be greatly improved.2.Body language helps to improve speaking.To learn the actual use of language is basic purpose of learning language. The basic purpose of learning English is to communicate with others in English. So the teachers have to improve the students’ ability of speaking in English teaching. The use of body language can help realize the aim. For example, when we have the lesson “What’s the matter?” the teachers will ask the students to act out the dialogue in pairs. During the practice, the use of the facial expressions and gestures can help the students act out successfully. Student A ask student B “What’s the matter?”the student should press his stomach with suffering facial expression when he answer “I have a stomachache”; when student A advise student B “You should lie down and rest”, he should act out sleeping gestures with his hands holding up his head and his eyes closed. With the help of body language, the class will become interesting and attracting, and the students’speaking ability is also improved.We should use body language to create feeling and scenery of activities. Let students happy to learn and love to learn. To learn English well, it must have a language environment. Chinese students learn English, perhaps the most lacking is languageenvironments. Teachers in the teaching should combine the content, create an English-speaking environment for the students as much as possible; create an atmosphere of English culture.3. Body language helps to improver reading.Reading is an important way of gaining information in foreign language learning. It is a basic skill for a foreign language learner. There is a lot of reading exercises in an examination today. But all these reading must be done in limited time. So students are asked to read them correctly and with a certain speed. In the Middle Schools, the English teachers lay emphasis on improving the reading ability that serves the students’further study. Here, we mainly mention the helpfulness of reading aloud. Reading aloud helps the students to get a correct pronunciation, stress and intonation, spelling and meaning. Furthermore, it also helps the students to find out the article’s internal feelings and appreciate the beauty of the language. A linguist ever said “A poem is not a poem until it is read.” Reading aloud is basic in the Middle school, and the teachers should make full use of body language to develop the students’ ability of reading aloud.When reading the sentences, attention should be paid to where to speak softly, emphasize, raise or lower our tone. To make it clear, we can imitate the strong or soft pats that are used in musicteaching. Generally speaking, we use falling tones in declarative and special interrogative sentence, first rising tones and them falling tones in the interrogative sentence. But the students in the middle school always confuse them. However, with the help of body language, the problem will be solved easily. For instance, the teachers can use gestures. As they read the choosing sentences, they raise their hands in rising tones and lower in falling tones. Quite soon, the students can successfully imitate teachers’gestures and then use then correctly. As a result, there will be no problem in rightly read aloud the sentences at all.In a word, the vivid gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning, which will surely play an active part in improving the students’ reading ability.4.Body language helps to improve writing.Writing is one of the four basic skills of learning language, and it is so important a skill that we can even say without it, people can’t communicate with others. As an English teacher, he should not only encourage he students to master more vocabulary and knowledge, but also should develop their writing ability in English teaching. But in students’ opinion, writing is dull and tiring, they don’t like having writing lesson. How to improve the effect of writing teaching? The application of body language can help solvethe problem in writing teaching.The linguist Franklin ever said, “Tell me, I’ll forget; teach me, I’ll remember; involve me and I’ll learn.” If we asked the students to write an unfamiliar composition, they would probably be unable to and feel discouraged. However, the students can write excellent articles if they have the experience. So in and out of class, we should ask students participate some English-related activities, and then ask them to write it down. For example, after read the play “The necklace”, we can ask students imagine how Mathilde’s husband felt and what he would do when Mathilde tell him about her meeting with Jeane, and then write a scene to continue the story. It is difficult for the students to write entirely by their imagination. But if we ask them discuss it in groups, next act out it in pairs, and then write it down. The students are deeply impressed by the body movements of their writing acting. Writing is not difficult for them any longer. For example too, let the students write a composition about “The first snow in winter”. The students don’t pass the eyes, ears, mouth, nose, the body’s feeling, It is impossible to write a good article. If the teacher has them enjoyed themselves in the beautiful snowing and been given some hints, the students can write a composition which is truly, lively.So body language is also important in writing. It can improvesthe ability of students’writing. For contrast to their complete imagination, the students are deeply impressed by the body movement of the teachers and themselves, which surely leads to a better article.Ⅳ. Pay attention to the attentive points when using body language.The primary school students like simulating and they treat the teacher as a model. So teachers’ body language must be precise and appropriate. Otherwise it will have a bad influence in students. When teachers use body language they should speculate if it is reasonable on students. For example, there is a teacher does an action when teaching the word “bike”. The students perform it to their parents, but the parents can hardly link the action with the word, Such body language will mislead the students and have a bad effect on their comprehension and body expressions in the future. Moreover, the appearance of body language should be timely. It should not appear too early or too late. For the time of the class is limited and precious, teachers must let the body language has its existing value.Ⅵ. Conclusion.In short, learning English needs practice. The forty-five minutes in class is very precious and should be cherished, during which thestudents should practice as much as possible. To exert the limited time, teachers are required to adopt some effective methods. Using body language is necessary for English teacher’s ability and quality. The use of body language can not only attract the students’attention, but also deepen their impression and imagination. The use of body language in English teaching is completely up to the standards of Audio-visual teaching, but also improve the students’ability of English such as listening, speaking, reading, writing and integrating skills. So as an English teacher, we should make full use body language to make our class become attractive and effective. Every English teacher should try their best to investigate the functions of body language .The unaffected body language can influence students’mood, develop their non-intellectual facts and improve their culture. The good and effective body language can let students have the feeling of amiability and harmony.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Welcome To Download !!!欢迎您的下载,资料仅供参考!精品资料。
