Its first use was as a shade against the sun! Nobody knows who first invented it, but the umbrella was used in very ancient times. Probably the first to use it were the Chinese in the eleventh century B.C.We know that the umbrella was used in ancient Egypt and Babylon as a sunshade. And there was a strange thing connected with its use: it became a symbol of honor. In the Far East in ancient times, the umbrella was allowed to be used only by those in high office. In Europe, the Greeks were the first to use the umbrella as a sunshade. And the umbrella was commonly used in ancient Greece. But it is believed that the first persons in Europe to use the umbrella as protection against the rain were the ancient Romans.During the Middle Ages, the use of the umbrella practically disappeared. Then it appeared again in Italy in the late sixteenth century. And again it was considered as a symbol of power. By 1680, the umbrella appeared in France and later in England.By the eighteenth century, the umbrella was used against rain throughout most of Europe. Umbrellas have not changed much in style during all this time, though they have become much lighter in weight. You’re cooking up the catch of the day over a campfire. Suddenly, a few raindrops fall on your arms, and before you know it, the sky opens up. Then you hear what sounds like thunder in the distance. What should you do? Your tent is close by and would offer shelter (庇护) from the pouring rain. There’s a campsite picnic shelter a few minutes down the path. And then you remember that your car is parked down the road. What’s your safest choice to make sure you and your families are safe? It’s a common question for many hikers and campers, especially when they are camping during summer months. Heading to your car is almost always the safest choice. On the one hand, your tent and a picnic shelter will keep you dry, but they offer little or no protection against lightning. Your car, on the other hand, will keep you dry and protect you from lightning strikes. Protecting yourself against possible lightning strikes is very important; lightening kills an average of 62 people in the US each year. If you keep all of the windows and doors closed in your car, you’ll be able to return to your campsite safely.Of course, if you’re going backpacking (背包旅行), not car camping, and you’re deep in the woods, your car won’t be a good choice. So, what should you do if your car is far away and there’s no other safe shelter nearby? First, you’ll have to make sure that tree branches or other objects don’t fall on you or your campsite. Then you’ll have to get in a safe position to avoid lightning, or flash flood conditions. What else should you do?8.To avoid lightning in a storm, you’d better________.A.go into your tent quickly B.cook up the catch of the day over a campfire C.run into a campsite picnic shelter at once D.get into your car and return to your campsite later9.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?A.Young people like backpacking best.B.Lightning is dangerous for campers.C.Car camping is a good choice for deep woods.D.Camping during summer is verypopular.10.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.It is important to learn to protect yourself when camping.B.Backpacking is not a good choice for campers.C.People should never camp deep in the woods.D.People should not go camping alone.11.What is the passage mainly about?A.The meaning of camping.B.How to live through a storm when camping.C.How to travel safely.D.Car camping is the safest.Pan Zhanle of China broke his own world record on the way to winning the men’s 100-meter freestyle Wednesday night, finishing in 46.40 seconds for his country’s first swimming gold medal of the Paris Olympics. That mark topped his 46.80 swum at the February world championships in Doha.“It was a magical moment, really magical,” Pan said. “The record was not just for the Chinese team, but for the world. This is a small step by breaking this record.”In perhaps the most ferocious race in swimming, the 19-year-old Pan edged Kyle Chalmers of Australia, who clocked a 47.48 for silver and Romanian bronze medalist David Popovici in 47.49.No world marks had been broken through the first four days in the pool at the Paris Games.Chalmers won gold in the 100 free in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, and was the silver medalist three years ago in Tokyo behind American Caeleb Dressel. Dressel did not qualify this time.Pan has not been implicated in any of the doping allegations that have surrounded the Chinese swimming team in the run-up to the Olympics.Chinese swimmers in Paris have pushed back strongly against those accusations and say they have been tested more frequently in recent months, sometimes three or four times a week.Pan was asked about the testing and said it all seemed routine to him.“This was standard,” he said. “The tests were done under all the regulations. I don’t think it influenced my performance.”WADA, the World Anti-Doping Agency, put out a statement on Tuesday in response to food contamination scenarios being used to clear athletes who test positive.“WADA is generally concerned about the number of cases that are being closed without sanction when it is not possible to challenge the contamination theory,” the statement said.“There have been many cases of positive tests that were eventually closed without sanction as no-fault violations, sometimes with unusual methods of contamination.” WADA said it was also concerned about similar cases in the United States.12.What is the main achievement highlighted in the article?A.Pan Zhanle winning a gold medal in the men’s 100-meter freestyle.B.Kyle Chalmers winning silver in the men’s 100-meter freestyle.C.David Popovici setting a new world record.D.The Chinese swimming team winning multiple medals.13.What was Pan Zhanle’s record-breaking time in the 100-meter freestyle?A.46.80 seconds B.47.48 seconds C.47.49 seconds D.46.40 seconds 14.Which swimmer won the silver medal in the men’s 100-meter freestyle event?A.Pan Zhanle B.Kyle Chalmers C.avid Popovici D.Caeleb Dressel 15.What was the concern raised by WADA in its recent statement?A.The frequency of doping tests on athletes.B.The handling of food contamination cases leading to positive tests.C.The lack of new world records in swimming.D.The performance of athletes under doping allegations. How to Survive Senior High School LifeAnxious about Senior High School (SHS) life? 16 .Be decisive and self-aware17 .

The process of doping control in the Olympic Games is a crucial aspect of ensuring fair competition and maintaining the integrity of the sporting event. It involves several steps that aim to detect and deter the use of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes.1. Selection: Athletes who participate in the Olympic Games are randomly selected for doping control. This selection process ensures that all athletes have an equal chance of being tested, regardless of their performance or reputation.2. Notification: Once selected, athletes are notified by the doping control officers about the testing procedure. They are informed about the time and location where thetest will be conducted.3. Sample collection: Athletes are required to providea urine sample under the supervision of a doping control officer. The sample collection process follows strict protocols to ensure the integrity and authenticity of the samples.4. Sample sealing: After providing the urine sample, the athlete's sample is divided into two separate containers – A and B. Container A is sealed and labeled with a unique identification code, while container B remains unopened.5. Sample analysis: The sealed container A is sent to a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory for analysis. The laboratory conducts various tests to detect the presence of prohibited substances in the athlete's urine sample.6. Results: The laboratory analyzes the sample and generates a report indicating whether any prohibited substances were found. If the test results are negative, the athlete is cleared of any doping allegations. However,if the test results are positive, further investigations and disciplinary actions may be initiated.7. Appeals process: Athletes who receive positive test results have the right to appeal the findings. They can request the B-sample to be analyzed to confirm or refute the initial test results. The B-sample analysis is conducted by a different laboratory to ensure impartiality.8. Sanctions: If an athlete's B-sample confirms the positive test results, they may face sanctions, including disqualification from the Olympic Games, loss of medals, fines, and suspension from future competitions.

Coupled with literature and related cases, the author analyzed this document, pointed out problems therein and offered corresponding proposals according to China’s actual circumstances. The core content of this standard for compliance is that “WADA monitors signatories to implement compliance”. Although the draft had some problems: 1) WADA’s role orientation deviation affected standard implementation; 2) the definition of scope of compliance needed to be improved; 3) the content of taking the consequences hierarchically was imperfect; 4) the feasibility of the way of taking the consequences needed to be reconsidered, the issuance of the standard made up blanks in the practical operating procedure of code compliance, related agencies in China should value and make thorough preparations for welcoming WADA’s compliance examination and supervision.Key words: sports law ;international standard for compliance by signatories ;world anti-doping code ;world anti-doping system ;compliance procedure收稿日期:2017-08-20基金项目:国家社会科学基金项目“反对与防治兴奋剂的法律机制研究”(17BTY007)。

Davies said Moreno, 27, had been stripped of her Games accreditation and the matter had been referred to the International Cycling Union (UCI).
Strip在这⾥是“剥夺”的意思,,⽽accreditation是“鉴定合格”的意思,因此“取消某⼈参赛资格”就是strip someone of one’s Games accreditation;那么,“某⼈被取消参赛资格”就是someone be stripped of one’s Games accreditation。
The court order stripped him of everything in his possession.(法庭下令剥夺了他的⼀切财产。
)。
