You should spend more time fishing, and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats; eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the processor and eventually open your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City where you would run your expanding enterprise. ‖Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. Some college students prefer to attend classes regularly because they believe that only in the class atmosphere can they focus on the reading. Others, however, believe that the best reading can only be done outside the classroom. Which reading method do you think is better? Why?Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraphs loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. On the last night before they were to return home, we had arranged a family get-together. When the doorbell rang, Cheryl scampered to answer. My sister-in-law Carol stood in the doorway with a large bowl in her hands.―What’s that?‖ Cheryl immediately wanted to know.―It’s banana pudding.‖ Carol offered proudly.Cheryl took a closer look, then shook her head from side to side and said, ―Karen doesn’t make it that way.‖I dissolved in laughter that no one else understood. Suddenly, my tension and anxiety disappeared, and I knew that when those kids got back home, their mother would be hearing a lot about how ―Karen doesn’t do it that way.‖Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Failure is the mother of success. Everyone has experienced failure. In your opinion, how to turn failure into success?Test 3Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraphs loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation.I will not avoid the tasks of today and charge them to tomorrow for I know that tomorrow never comes. Let me act now even though my actions may not bring happiness or success for it is better to act and fail than not to act. Happiness, in truth, may not be the fruit picked by my action yet without action all fruit will die on the vine.I will act now. From now on, I will repeat these words again and again and again, each hour, each day, every day, until the words become as much a habit as my breathing and the actions which follow become as natural as the blinking of my eyelids.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Having good friendship network is of great benefit to everyone. However, it is very difficult to have a real friend. In your opinion, what qualities are important in a real friend?Test 4Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraphs loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. You’ve probably already wondered what college will be like. Will it be like your high school experience? Will you be able to handle it? Will it be fun or frightening? Well, hopefully a glimpse at a day in the life of a college student will help sort some things out!The college schedule is very different than the traditional high school schedule. Generally, there is a lot more flexibility with your college classes. In high school, you were probably told that you had to take U. S. History, which was offered every day at 10:00 a.m.. In college, you’ll probably need to take a history class, but you could have 10 choices.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. All students want to have a good vacation after a hard and busy semester. What do you plan to do during the next summer vacation? Why?Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraphs loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. Our first loves taught us the good, the bad and the ugly. After the ―lovey-dovey‖ stage passed, the disagreements came. The once perfect love didn’t seem so perfect any longer. Young and innocent, some people stuck through it and tried to make it last as long as possible, while others just took the heartache and learned from it. Two young people in love endure experiences and learn lessons. Having a first sweetheart is a warm feeling, but thinking about the downs of the relationship can bring much pain to one’s soul.Dennis, sophomore communication major, said, ―My girlfriend and I were passionate about everything — loving and fighting with each other as well as hurting each other with jealousy and greed.‖Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. The Internet is one of the greatest inventions of our generation. The internet has changed the way we communicate with each other, shop and etc. Please explain how the internet makes our life better and more efficient.Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraph loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. The college schedule can seem crazy at times. Doing homework until midnight is not easy at all, but I love what I do and all that I learn. The best and worst part of college is the flexibility it offers. You are able to choose everything: your classes, extracurricular activities, friends, etc.. A great deal of responsibility and time management is needed, but with a bit of planning and coffee you can be very successful. Surviving college takes hard work! However, at the end of all this, you will have your degree, and no one can take that away from you. How cool is that?Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. Some students prefer the internet-based teaching. Others prefer to study in traditional classrooms. Which method of studying do you prefer? Why?Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraphs loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. Finally, it’s important for students to remember that it’s okay to be single. In fact, it’s highly preferable to be single than to be in a bad relationship. At some schools and in some groups of friends, students feel pressured to be in relationships and sometimes even to be engaged. College is a time for learning, for making friends, for having fun, and for exploring future and present possibilities. None of that requires a romantic relationship.College dating comes with some unique advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it may never again be so easy to meet potential partners. On the other hand, the college environment is not necessarily the healthiest one for a relationship to develop.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. What is your favorite method to relax? Please explain why it is your favorite.Part I Paragraph Reading (50 points)Directions:Read the following paragraphs loudly and pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. All the same, even when Western parents think they’re being strict, they usually don’t come close to being Chinese mothers. For example, my Western friends who consider themselves strict make their children practice their instruments thirty minutes every day. An hour at most. For a Chinese mother, the first hour is the easy part. It’s hours two and three that get tough. There are tons of studies showing great differences between Chinese and Westerners when it comes to parenting. In one study, almost 70% of the Western mothers said that ―parents need to foster the idea that learning is fun.‖ By contrast, roughly 0% of the Chinese mothers felt the same way.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Everyone has a goal to fulfill. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one. ‖ Wealth may help us to escape emptiness for a short while; it cannot cure it.The businessman accumulated money to support his retirement. It was wise to plan for the future. Yet, what sort of life was he living in the present? The businessman was so future oriented that he hadn’t taken sufficient time to question what the future looked like. The businessman was living for what the Mexican already enjoyed — a simple life well lived.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Everyone has to leave home sometimes. For example, you will be picking a major that will determine the types of classes you will specialize in. In high school, you have a set curriculum of classes you have to take across all subject areas. In college, think about your schedule as a pyramid. During your freshman and sophomore year, you’ll take more general education classes and a few classes in your major. But during your junior and senior year, you’ll take fewer general education classes and more classes in your major.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. What factors contribute to success? According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ ―Job Outlook 2005‖ survey, 70 percent of hiring managers do report screening applicants based on their GPA, but the largest group say they use a 3.0 as their bottom line. All other factors being equal, an employer is more likely to choose the candidate with high grades, but that doesn’t mean a so-so student can’t land a competitive job with a big company. Employers understand that students have different circumstances. Employers do take a university’s reputation into consideration, but they also understand working to pay your way through school.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Who is the person you admire the most? But the 21st-century family is cut from a very different cloth than previous generations. Nick Henry, managing director of the recently created National Family Week, describes the modern family as being ―a lot more flexible than it has been: it covers those who are closest to you who support you through difficult times and decisions.‖ This broader family church, unrecogni zed by governments, is undoubtedly supported in online interactions. But let’s go a step further. Carrying Capacity is the maximum population size of the species that the environment can sustain. Given that people also have limited time and resources, I’ll bet that this holds true with interpersonal relationships, too. That is, there’s only a certain number of relationships we can sustain at one time, otherwise the health of those relationships are affected. If we’re not careful, having a huge network of ―casual friends‖ may cut into the deep, meaningful time we have with people we REALLY care about.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Nowadays, college students are facing more and more stress. It was the first time you opened your life, heart and soul to another person and trusted him/her not to hurt you. That’s a huge step in the relationship world. I changed her first nappy, gave her first bottle — I thought ab out how you’d have done it and tried to do it the same way. That first night I lay in our bed, Ilaria beside me in her cradle and I talked to you. ―Jo, you should be here, I need you,‖ I said.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner.Nowadays, more and more people even college students like shopping online. Some might think that the American sports parent is an analog to the Chinese mother. This is so wrong. Unlike your typical Western overscheduling soccer mom, the Chinese mother believes that (1) schoolwork always comes first; (2) an A-minus is a bad grade; (3) your children must be two years ahead of their classmates in math; (4) you must never compliment your children in public; (5) if your child ever disagrees with a teacher or coach, you must always take the side of the teacher or coach; (6) the only activities your children should be permitted to do are those in which they can eventually win a medal.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. Why some kids don’t like their parents? On the one hand, college is one of the easiest times to meet potential dating partners. Between college parties, classes, campus activities, and just hanging around the dorms and campus, there’s no shortage of opportunities to meet people. Indeed, many couples do find lasting relationships and even marriage when they’re in college. On the other hand, a college campus is a stressful place where there’s often too much d rama, gossip, and alcohol. Many colleges have kind of a ―small town‖ atmosphere where everybody knows everybody else’s business, especially when it comes to relationships. This is not necessarily the best environment for a relationship to flourish.Part II Making a Dialogue (50 points)Directions:Make a dialogue on the following topic with your partner. Some students like traditional reading, while some students like digital reading. Topic 1 (Unit 1):Debating: Arguments for or against going back to your hometown during the National Day holiday weekA In my opinion,I am against going back to hometown during the National Day holiday week, through my family lives far from **University.B I don not think so ,exactly. why? What are the factors that affect you,or Hind your legs?A My hometown is very far from here ,it will be take me a long time ,and much money.B Really? How far is your family? How much time should you spend if you go back? How mnch money shoud you spend?A About 1770 kilometres from here ,need at lest 48 hours.Across several provinces,in my journey ,it needs tranfer,it cost more than RMB300.B Oh ,that means something. But ,do you think 48 hours is a big number compared with 24 hours a day , 7 days of a week, during the National Day holiday week?A Y eah ,it is not big.but,I have to pay much energy formaking preparations,it clouding book the train ticket, packing up something ,Dragging havey luggage to the railway station, and etc.I feel a little tired after that.B It sounds not very good.but ,if you can not afford the fare, you can earn the money by taking some paty-time jobs, just before the National Day holiday week.I am sure you can do it!A Sometimes, you know, thingking is different from doing .I am mean,I want go back, but I can not go back .B Why? With enough time and part-time jobs'money, you can go back your hometown during the National Day holiday week.If i were you ,I can do it ,with happy. What is matter?A I know ,Parent'love for their child is never changing. But ,when I really go back,my parents may not be very happy ,and it also effet my mood.B I can not understang it.Your parents should be glad to hear that you are going to take the opportunity to go back.A You konw,if I go back ,I will take a long trip home ,spend much money, need much time, and so on .All this is my parents worry about .B Ah,that is problem, but it is not hard to solve.Y ou should make a speech with your parents, let them not worry .AMay I ask a question?B Of courseA Do you have the similar problems, when you going back to your hometown during theNational Day holiday week?B No,because I am a local.ADo you think part-time jobs is sasy to find?Just before the National Day holiday week?B (还有时间就自由发挥吧)Topic 2 (Unit 2): Debating: Arguments for or against believing in the supernaturalADo you believe in supernatural phenomena?(支持)B When we're talking strictly 'supernatural' phenomena, my answer is simple. No, I don'tbelieve any of it exists.A I'm interested in know your opinions about such topics as spirits, UFOs, extraterrestriallife, haunting, ESP, parapsychology, witchcraft, vampirism, licanthropy, magic and so forth.B UFOs are, quite literally of course, Unidentified Flying Objects. Just because one isunidentified does not mean that it is the space ship of extra terrestrials. Even if there truly are sentient terrestrials with technology far beyond ours with the means to travel here, UFOs would still not be super natural.A I'm looking for a debate on these heated subjects, and whilst some of them - like UFOs -belong perhaps more in the science field, their controversial nature is akin to the other phenomena I listed.B Even if Life is common and and that there is sentient life out there, it may something wewill never know. Travel or communications on an interstellar level prohibits it.A I believe in Hauntings; but not every single haunting someone claims. Sometimes it'scoincidence, sometimes it can be explained, sometimes it's staged. But I believe in that very, very, very slim 1% out of the 200 thousand that are reported. (You get the idea).B What is it about spirits that make you more believable inyour eyes? What about psychicsstating that they're able to communicate with such entities? Do you believe that it's possible for us to interact with these presence and that they're more passive?A I believe there is other life out there, but I doubt we've met it yet. One day we'll meet alienlifeforms, but I don't think we will anytime soon.B There may be life on other planets that we'll never find. But I don't believe in any form ofsupernatural power and spent a great deal of teenage-hood disproving all those future predicting dealies, from pendulums to I Ching.A A lot of strange things happen around, and science can not be explained. So ,I could not be just a coincidence.B I do not believe that the title says it all. Not all of those things would fit into the "super natural" category.Just because one is unidentified does not mean that it is the space ship of extra terrestrials.Topic 3 (Unit 3): Debating: Arguments for or against giving first priority to economic status in choosing a spouseA Nowadys, some young people consider economic status the most important factor whenchoose a spouse. They think money can bring everything they want, like a big apartment,a car,or trip abroad. However, can these material things really ensure happiness? But we all know how important money is,without money we can hardly do /doc/d917451805.html,ck of money in a marriage will cause problems to the couple.Even though the couple may have married for love ,being always hard-pressed for money,Love will soon be replaced by quarrels andendless worries over money matters. If this happens, can they live happily together?(支持)BNo, no, no. Economic status is absolutely NOT the most important thing when choosing a spouse. It should be considered when decided whether or not to get married at that time if you can actually afford the cost of living but you shouldn't choose who you want to marry on money. Should only marry a person for love. And if you really love a person you can wait until you are both economically stable (no need to be rich) until you get married.A would have given a negative anwer to this question if asked years ago. but now, my livingexperience taught me that economy always stands first in the marriage life no matter how deeply you used to love each other. In your daily marriage life, you'll gradually find that nearly everything is connected with money. I have witnessed several married couples used to give up everything in the world for their love breaking down for financial problem. So I don't mean that you should put economic status in the first place, at least you should take it into your serious consideration if you want to decide on a relationship.B Definitely I'll go against those who rate the economic status as the highest priority. Definitelymoney cannot bring happiness or love. If myself is financial independent, I do not need to depend on my spouse, so his financial status has nothing to bother me, or it will not be in my list.A the couple who is very much in love will just have to be practical. while they are nursing theirlove for each other, they will work towards their financial stability. saving and furthering their careers in preparation for the marriage plans. this will ensure them a stable married life. then plan to have only one or two kids. this way, life will never be that difficult to handle. it is so much more difficult to get married just because of economic considerations. love for each other will have to be present before embarking on any marriage at all.B Idont think economic status is important... love should be the first thing to consider in choosing the person whom you should love. i dont want to hug and kiss the person i dont love. i dont also want to go with him... money cant buy everything in this world. it may be the thing some find in having a relationship but not all do that...we wont be happy by money alone. when there is love there is hapiness. anyway if both of you would just strive hard you can have a money...下面是第二份资料,看完后应该不愁没话说了Topic 1 (Unit 1):Debating: Arguments for or against going back to your hometown during the National Day holiday week-it will cause a big traffic jam, too dangerous,-the holiday is too short, no enough time to go back home and have fun with families.-the ticket is hard to book or get.-work something more than the plan will benifit both the work or study place and the yourself.-with the train or other things may make people get angry and have a boring holiday.Topic 2 (Unit 2):Debating: Arguments for or against believing in thesupernaturalWell... there's the western culture and eastern culture. If you're talking about supernatural beliefs of the eastern culture... you can talk about umm... burning paper money for the deceased, in the belief that they'll use it in the afterlife. Burning incense during the holidays or special occasions for Buddha or Guan Yin to receive their blessing...Western culture is a little tricky, since there's the whole religion vs. pagan belief thing... Stuff like... oh... I don't know... garlic to repel vampires, during the full moon werewolves run around... witches riding on brooms... Oh! You can pick some reference from the Harry Potter books, I would sayTopic 3 (Unit 3):Debating: Arguments for or against giving first priority to economic status in choosing a spouseTrue love or a truly large bank account, which would you choose? This age-old question comes into again. When you meet an opposite sex? What come first, come on, dont tell me is the personality that come first, if you said this then i believe that you r cheating not only others, but yourself. The physical appearence come first. Also the money that is in your wallet. In college, we did some experiments about phisycal appearence and stuff like that, just like the topic, what come first, love or money. But then i need to state clear that i am not generalising. The research that we found out is, 92% judge people from the outlook. But then how you set up your outlook for people to have good impression on you, dude, you need to make up, and i believe that is money that you need. With money you can do a lot of things, you will get nice cars,go to some high class restaurants etc etc. If you do this, definitely the girl will get honour and you can 'tackle ' her easier.......I am just telling out what i see in the reality world. Dont you think so, just check out the photo tread, did anyone said that they prefer proton to be their dream car, no right?Maybe you din mention it out, but girls and boys, you r showing your intention out uncontiously.Just because you care what others think on you, and you r not telling the truth. Please, dont said things that pthers love to listen, but speak your mind. But then i dont agree on what estacado said, just because you lose your money, you are on the edge to lose the girl IF that girl really like you, she will not leave you becasue fo this reason...This is what people called "TRUE LOVE" There are girls out there, that will not look into your wallet, there are still girls that look into your personality. This is also what i learn from or maybe observed from some of my college girlfriends. They need tender, care and love more then your moeny. But then in the end, how you treat a girl and how you care for her is the most important thing.Topic 4 (Unit 4):Debating: Arguments for or against the view that feeling stressed before job interviews is badRemember when you were very little? The games that you played, the places you went, the friends you had? Most of us have happy memories of our childhood. Even if we were scared or nervous, we always had our family, friends and teachers to make us feel better. But as we get older, things can begin to change. There's the fear of exams. There's changing or even losing of friendships. The pressures of life at home can make people feel nervous, sad, tiredor maybe just very quiet. These feelings can cause what doctors call stress.Stress is a feeling you can have both in your mind and in your body. Being nervous or sad can start in your mind but it can also make you have headaches or stomachaches or make you just feel really tired. Stress can alsomake you want to eat less, not talk to your friends and family, or suddenly feel really angry. Now you may ask, "Why is stress such a problem? Everyone has those feelings sometimes."Yes, a little stress in life is normal. But controlling stress is important because if you feel stressed for too long, it can seriously affect your body.Younger people may not recognize their stress. They just think their feelings are normal. However, older people who suffer stress for long time can develop heart disease, high blood pressure and other serious health problems.Topic 5 (Unit 5):Debating: Arguments for or against volunteering for an international conference to be held in your city/region From the point of view of a parent (negative)I am not against voluntary work in general but I don't think it isproper for college students to be volunteers for the preparationand day-to-day work of an international conference. Their maintask is to study. When they go and do voluntary work for such aconference, they will have to miss classes, or fail to do theirassignments. Eventually they will fall behind in their studies.I thinkthe government or the organizer of the conference should employprofessionals to do the work, rather than asking students at college to volunteer. From the point of view of a student volunteer (positive)I don't think I can agree with the above view. I'd like to be avolunteer for the international conference to be held soon in ourregion. This is an important meeting and many world leaders aregoing to be present. It will bring honor to our country and to ourregion. To make the conference successful, a lot of work needs tobe done and I'll be only too glad to do something for my countrywhen it needs me.Meanwhile, I believe the voluntary work will enable me to putinto practice what I've learned at college. I believe too that I'll beable to learn many new things, things that I can not learn frombooks.I know that I may have to miss some classes, but my teachersand my friends are all very supportive. I'm sure I'll be able to makeup for the lost time with their help. Now use the above sample as your model and carry on similaractivities with your partner.Topic 6 (Unit 6):Debating: Arguments for or against developing more parks in downtown areasI think it's a very good idea to develop parks in downtown areas. They will create better environment, which is good for business. It can also improve the living environment for the city dwellers, such as degree of fresh air, green area, etc. Not only will the green grass and trees provide a good view for us to enjoy, they will clean the air and reduce pollution. I think it's a very good idea to develop parks in downtown areas. They will create better environment, which is good for business. It can also improve the living environment for the city dwellers, such as degree of fresh air, green area, etc. Not only will the green grass and trees provide a good view for us to enjoy, they will clean the air and reduce pollution.I've heard of some cities making micro-parks - really just a green spot with a couple of trees and a bench or so. Not a whole lot, but put a lot of them in a downtown area and I think it would make a real difference.Topic 7 (Unit 7):Debating: Arguments for or against nonprofessional risking their lives for othersA:It's not wise for the nonprofessionals to be involved in the rescue efforts, for they don't have the training and the proper equipment.B:The young man's selfless action reflects the true spirit of heroism. We mustn't allow calculations of personal gain of lossto stand in the way of saving lives.A:But what is he got caught in the fire himself? Wouldn't that make one more person to save? And what if the person saving him didn't make it through and they both past away. Wouldn't that be two lives because of one's mistake?B:But what if he really saves somebody? Wouldn't that make one less person to save?A: But stll, it's dangerous going into a fire without proper training. I think he should have waited until the firefighter come and let them tell him what to do. B: I'll have to agree with that.Topic 8 (Unit 8):Debating: Arguments for or against designing products for people with special physical needsof course we need to design products for people with special physical needs. however, to develop multifuctional products is a better idea. thus we couldsame a lot of money on designing different stuff for diff group of people. and those people who have physical needs wont feel so bad about the discriminationTopic 9 (Unit 9):Debating: Arguments for or against the view that the global economy is harming our national cultureAs our country participates more in the global economy, a large number of foreign products and services become available to us.Some people think that this is a good thing because we Chinese consumers now have a greater freedom of choice.Other think that the inflx of foreign goods and service is harmful to our country. For example, many people , especially the young, have come to worship everything foreign. They believeeverthing forgign is better than ours. They drink Coca-Cola, eat Italian pizzas, wear Nike sneakers and watch Hollywood movies. The danger is they'll gradually adopt western values and western ways of life and forget our won culture. Now some foreign practices are very common among the young. Just name a few of them: dating at an early age, going to all-night parties, and having cereal for breakfast instead of porridge. they are not part of our national traditions. Our national culture is losing ground due to the influence of the global economy. As our country participates more in the global economy, a large number of foreign products and services become available to us.Topic 10 (Unit 10):Debating: Arguments for or against encouraging teachers to bring humor into classroom teachinga:hi! how are you today?b:i m fine! Thank you. How are you?A: fine thank you!Right! I think we should give the student more work to do so they can remember what they did obviously they can get a better Results!B: but I think you are wrong! Because every one don’t like to do lot works you have to catch the main point and let the student remember it so they can do any questions in that type!A: i think you are right! Thank you! You give me a better idea!B: no problem! You can come and find me at any time. I’m more than welcome! Topic 11 (Unit 11)Debating: Arguments for or against the view that watching a film at home is better than watching it at a cinemaYESWatching a movie should have not to move me. Sitting in thecomfortable confines of my own dwelling is simply the best way to watch films.I can eat my own food, lounge around as I please, and just relax.Plus, with DVDs, I am in control.I can pause, play and rewind the movie as I see fit.I don't have to risk missing crucial scenes just because nature is a knocking' at my door.I can take a phone call, rewind parts I missed and make comments to my friends without angering the person next to me (depending on the commentary).Of course, movie theaters are known as dating hot spots, but in all honesty, if I really wanted to make an impression on a girl, the movie theatre is the last place I would bring her.The point of a date is to talk with the person, not just sit there staring at an oversized TV screen. That brings me to my next point. What are you really getting out of that 70 Yuan movie ticket that a DVD can't provide?Louder sounds? A bigger screen? Here is some advice for cinema lovers - sit 5cm away from your TV and turn the volume all the way up. Then send me the 60 Yuan I just saved you.NOWhen my date suggested that we watch a movie on our first date, I grew a little wary. How could I nice girl like me react any other way? In this age of cell-phone cameras and online grocery shopping, when he said: "movie" it could only mean one thing. Watching a DVD on his couch.Immediately I considered the tightness of his wallet, and thenI had to also reconsider the tightness of my dress!Whatever happened to the good, old going-to-the-movies culture?I love sitting in the dark and enjoy taking in the whole surround sound. The screen engulfs me and the people on the screen are larger than life. What a wonderful escape. After the movie I can parade my date around and if I get bored with him, I could show off my tight dress to the other guys. The cinema is a social event. We all gather with the same intention: to watch a brand new movie and watch each other. This is not something you can do watching DVDs, especially the ones with lousy graphics, crappy sounds, and the occasional sight of a bobbing head of a cinemagoer.Watching a movie on DVD just doesn't feel the same like watching a movie in the cinema. When I'm inside the cinema, nothing can disturb me. It's just me, and the movie. And of course, my tight dress.Topic 12 (Unit 12):Debating: Arguments for or against requiring students to wear school uniformsWhile in most present day high schools it is controversial that whether students should wear uniforms, most elementary schools have adopted uniform policy with wide support. Uniforms serve students benefits in several ways. First of all, uniforms act as social equalizers. Children often feel less social pressure when everyone in the school dresses the same way. Students who cannot be fashionable due to limited family finances are made to feel more comfortable among their peers. Moreover, the wearing of uniforms influences students' perceptions of school climate. Students are made to feel as if they are a part of a team by wearing a uniform. School climate is improved considerably because kids perceive that they fit in because they look like everybody else. In addition, school uniforms would assist students and parents in other ways. Students would learn to appreciate the elimination of so many choices when getting dressed for a school day. Students would not be tardy for school as often because of the indecision about what to wear in the mornings. However, when the issue comes to high school situation, further details should be carefully examined. Students in high schools are in a much different situation from students in elementary schools. High school students aresometimes called young adults, by which people are expecting their maturity, at least to some extent. It's moderate that schools are expected to operate a well-disciplined, structured environment that is conducive to learning. But uniform is not the right answer to various difficulties and problems that the high school education is confronting. For example, while proponents address the safety that uniform policy would bring, opponents are aware of the fact that campus violence would not be reduced because of uniforms. Having grown up already, most students no longer feel that uniforms help them become a part of the school. Furthermore, uniforms may not save parents as much money as many people would like to believe. Uniforms do not eliminate the need for clothing needed for outside school. Students many times don't wear their school clothing the rest of the day once they are out of school. Sneakers, jackets, boots, casual clothing, and more will still beneeded. What may first appear to be economical may not be accurate in reality. It has been said that a controversy cannot exist without a fundamental dispute, and it seems that the answer to the school uniform debate is not a simple yes or no. There is no clear consensus as to the benefits of school uniforms. However, as to high schools, uniform policy should eventually be reconsidered as many other regulations which have already been eliminated including "Boys' hair should not touch collar," or "Girls' skirts must be longer than knees."Topic 13 (Unit 13):Debating: Arguments for or against space exploration正方:Space exploration will 1.expand our living room;2.know more about the space;3.predict dangers;4.protect the earth.反方:Space exploration will 1.pollute the space; 2.cause space war; 3.break the nature balance of the space.Topic 14 (Unit 14):Debating: Arguments for or against a ban on genetic engineeringI think cloning human being is accepted but not encouraged. For example, we could clone a great scientist to continue his contribution to theworld. However, modern technology could not ensure a successful cloning of human beings yet.Maybe in the near future,we could abolish the ban of cloning human beings.Topic 15 (Unit 15):Debating: Arguments for or against the view that women face unequal treatment in getting promoteda: do you know what? women always gets something lowerthan man. i don’t know why? Is it every country like that? Or just china?B: i think it not only china! Some Asia country those that is well. Like jape Korea! Guessed what? Jape’s man is like the king! Women are like Slave man can do everything but women can’t!A: that not fair!B: I know it! But up is not like that they just have wrong way round with jape! I think it might be because of us having queen! In up if a couple were divorce women can get 70% of her man's money! I think every country's Culture is different so this is why some country man is king but some country women are king. Because they different.A: yes! I see!B: ok!Topic 16(Unit 16):Debating: Arguments for or against divorce as the solution to a loveless marriageI have a lot of married friends so I've known plenty of people who have been ina similar situation. IMHO, too many people have unrealistic expectations. They expect bombs and fireworks to go off every day and that's not how life is. Once you've been together for a long time, especially if you are married or living together, things die down. You don't get as excited anymore when you hear his voice, you don't want to have sex as often, you need some space from him, you may even find him less attractive, etc. That's normal. I don't know what the problem is because you provided little information but from what I've seen of friends who are in that situation, sometimes the problem is their unrealistic expectations. They also become busy with the routines inlife...work and raising their children. They don't spend much time alone together and after a while, it becomes a marriage of convenience. My suggestion is to go for martial counseling and if that does not work, then you should go your own ways. Divorce is a horrible thing but you are setting a negative example for your kids because they may grow up believing that is what a marriage should be like.My friends who have left their husband or wife because they felt the love was not there anymore usually end up regretting it. Why? Because they felt there was a lot they could've done to try and salvage their marriage and it was not as bad as they thought it was. So please think things through before taking drastic measures. You should always weigh the pros and cons.。
