The movie doesn’t start till seven.M: You know, it’s a nightmare on the exp ressway during rush hour.Text 5W: How about a little tennis? Say Saturday or Sunday?M: It sounds great. It seems like all I have been doing lately is sitting in front of the computer. Text 6:M: What do you want to do for your birthday, Emmy?W: Let’s h ave a party, Ted.M: A party with dancing, drinks, foods and the like?W: ⑥I was thinking more about a dinner party.M: OK, why not? Thanks. ⑨And could you get that Santa on the phone too? I want to talk to him and make sure he’s on his way before I do anything else.Text 8:M: Your study room has been one of the most popular meeting places for university students. How did this all start?W: ⑩It all started a year ago when I was preparing for my final examinations. I was looking for a place to study. I couldn’t stand the dark unfriendly feeling of the library. I preferred a comfortable and sunny study room, so I rented the top floor of an old house near the university. Then word spread and my friends started turning up. It was a great place to relax, talk and share ideas. They even started leaving their books behind and leaving some money for the things they used, like coffee and pens.M: Is that what made you think of turning it into a book café?W: Maybe, yeah. I also don’t want a stressful nine-to-five job. (11)I’m trying to find a lifestyle that suits me. (12)And I think there’s a need for relaxing places like this for people—especially students—to eat, talk and have fun without spending too much money. If the feeling of the place is right, people will come to the café. Anyway, it’s more than just a business decision. It’s also a decision about the lifestyle I want to have and about trying to create something new and different. Text 9:M: Miki, when you were in college, where did you live?W: My first year! I lived in the dormitory that was quite close to the campus. (13)It was very convenient but I’m not sure that many people actually enjoyed living there because there were so many of us packed into such a small space.M: Yeah, so what about food? Did you have a kitchen? Did you cook?W: In the dormitories, no! (14)We had a dining hall. It was only open, 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the evening, and we all shared our time together, kind of like a family, I suppose.M: Yeah! Yeah! How would you wash your clothes?W: (15)That I forget! I think we had laundry machines every other floor in the dorm building. But I actually don’t remem ber. Sorry!M: And what would students do for fun?W: Oh, I think the bigger question is whether students did anything besides social activities, youknow. I mean, if you’re a freshman the chances of you actually doing work are actually quite small, especi ally in that sort of a social setting where…M: Even at Berkeley?W: Oh, are you kidding me? (16)Yes! Berkeley is highly competitive but it’s also a highly social atmosphere, especially in the dorms.M: Wow! That’s funny! Oh, thanks!Text 10:M: (17)Welcom e to Golden Cruise Lines! This is your captain speaking, and I’d like to take a minute to tell you some exciting things about our trip. (18)We’ll be together for the next two weeks, and we’ve got plenty of entertainment options for you. For starters, the t wo pools on the top deck are open 24 hours a day, and at night when the lights come on, we’ll have live music for you to enjoy as well. (19)Our six restaurants offer food from all over the world, and the best part is that you can eat whenever you want! On the bottom floor, you can take your pick of bars, clubs, and movie theaters, (20)and the fitness center and sports facilities on the second floor will help you burn off all those calories you ate at lunchtime! Be sure to visit our spa for the massages and skin treatments that your body deserves! journey和happy判断应该选A.so表示结果,but表示转折,而or表示并列. 2.What little money he did have ________ on a record selected with extreme care which beca me,to his way of thinking,a possession close to his heart.()A.spentB.been spentC.was spentD.to spend【答案】C【解析】答案:C. BWhat little money he did have 实际是一个主语从句,have修饰的little money,和后面的动词spend没有关系. 3.We tend to ________ happiness with freedom, but,as a psychotherapist and writer has observed, without obstacles to our desires it's harder to know what we want,or where we're heading.()binepareC.equipD.equate【答案】D【解析】答案:DA.combine 联合,结合;B.compare 比较,对照;C.equip 装备,配备;D.equate 使相等;视为平等;根据句意可知,此处表达的意思是:将幸福等同于自由;故选D home life to going out.(她更喜欢家里的生活而不是外出),可以推测,她是热心家庭生活的,因此选A.---凯西,依我看来,是非常喜欢家庭生活的人.--绝对是! 5.As Martin Luther King,Jr.put it,peace is not which引导定语从句. 6.Of the forces shaping higher education _______ is more sweeping than the movement acros s borders.()A.nothingB.noneC.eitherD.anything【答案】B【解析】答案:B.shape影响,塑造,使成形;主语是none,前面是of the forces,其中shaping higher education 为现在分词短语作后置定语,可以将句子变换成None of the forces that are shaping higher education is more sweeping than the movement across borders. 7.Our car _____ engine trouble,we stopped for the night at a roadside rest area.()A.developedB.being developedC.having developedD.to develop【答案】C【解析】答案C.develop后有宾语engine trouble, our car是develop的动作执行者,且动作先于主句谓语动词发生,应用现在分词的完成时构成独立主格结构. 8.---Nobody in life gets _______ what they thought you look back at your life and the memories make you smile."()A.how B.that C.where D.when【答案】D【解析】答案:D 本题中含有表语从句,从句中不缺少主语、宾语或表语,根据句意,从句中缺少时间状语,所以用连接副词when.句意为:当我问她用自己的话来定义成功时,她说:"成功是当你回顾你的生活和记忆使你微笑的时刻."根据从句中的句子成分的分析以及句意选择适当连接词.11.---What‘s this?I hear about your appearing on the six o'clock news.---Oh ________ able to catch the first light home, but my watch betrayed me.()A.wereB.had beenC.would beD.would have been【答案】D【解析】答案:D.根据题干but引导的从句可知,其引导的是含蓄条件句,相当于if引导的虚拟条件句"if my watch hadn't betrayed me",此句是对过去情况的假设.由此可知,主句谓语动词形式应用would have done 来表示对过去情况的假设.故选D.我本来能够在黎明时分到家的,但是我的手表不准了.含蓄虚拟条件句中的假设条件不是以if条件从句的形式来表达的,而是隐藏在上下文或由with、without、otherwise、or、but for、but等词来暗示,相当于if引导的虚拟条件句.所以解题时要注意上下文的语境和这些关键词的提示.14.Microsoft,in a(n) _______ from tradition, has already released similar touch-friendly Office apps for Apple Inc's iPad and Kuan Yew emerged onto the international stage as the founding father of the state of Singapore, then a city of about 1million.He developed into a world statesman who acted as a kind of conscience to leaders around the globe.Fate initially seemed not to have provided him with a stage on which to achieve more than modest local success. In the first phase of decolonization,Singapore emerged as a part of Malaya. It was cut loose because of tensions between Singapore's largely Chinese population and the Malay majority and, above all,to teach the city a lesson of dependency,Malaya undoubtedly expected that reality would cure Singapore of its independent spirit. But great men become such through visions beyond material calculations.Lee challenged conventional wisdom by opting for statehood. The choice reflected a deep faith in the virtues of his people. He asserted that a city located on a sandbar with no economic resource to draw upon, and whose major industry as a colonial naval base had disappeared, could nevertheless thrive and achieve international reputation by building on its principal asset(财富):the intelligence, industry and dedication of its people.A great leader takes his or her society from where it is to where it has never been----indeed,where it as yet cannot imagine being.By insisting on quality education,by suppressing corruption and by basing governance on merit.Lee and his colleagues raised the annual per capita income of their population from 500atthetimeofindependencein1965toroughly55,000today.In a generation,Singapore became an international financial center.,the leading intellectual metropolis of Southeast Asia, the location of the region's major hospitals and a favored site for conferences on international affairs. It did so by adhering to an extraordinary pragmatism:by opening careers to the best talents and encouraging them to adopt the best practices from all over the world..Superior performance was one component of that achievement.Superior leadership was even more important. As the decades went by,it was moving----and inspirational----to see Lee.,the mayor of a medium-size city, become a mentor of global strategic order. The great tragedy of Lee's life was that his beloved wife was felled by a stroke that left her aprisoner in her body, unable to communicate or receive communication.Through all that time,Lee sat by her bedside in the evening reading to her.He had faith that she understood despite the evidence to the contrary.Perhaps this was Lee Kuan Yew's role in his era.He had the same hope for our world. He fought for its better instincts even when the evidence was ambiguous. But many of us heard him and will never forget him.38.Why did Lee Kuan Yew choose to lead Singapore to be independent?______A.He intended to act as a kind of conscience to leaders around the globe.B.He determined his people shouldn't be subjected to Malaya anymore.C.He had considerable confidence in the value of the city's assets.D.He wanted Singapore to be the most powerful country worldwide.39.From the underlined sentence in Paragraph2,we can know that ______ .A.Malaya expected Singapore to be powerfulB.Malaya had a desire to kick off from the United States say they have found fish and other creatures living under key waters in Antarctica. They made the announcement after completing three months of research at the Ross Ice Shelf, the world's largest floating ice sheet. The researchers hoped to find clues to explain the force of the melting ice and its effect on sea level rise.Reed Scherer and Ross Powell are with Northern Illinois University in DeKalb,Illinois. They just finished up their research on our southernmost continent.Money for the project came from America's National Science Foundation."We chose a study site where,in the first year,We went into the subglacial (冰川下的)lake and tried to understand the environment in there, both ecologically and in terms of the ice dynamics about how the lake operates, and how the sediment(沉淀物)underneath the ice sheet operates,as well, because it's the water and the sediment underneath the ice that controls how fast the ice is flowing into the ocean"says Ross Powell, who led the investigation. The team included scientists, engineers, machinery and other supplies across the ice from the main U.S.scientific base at Mc Murdo Station to the researcher's camp. The camp was near a subglacial lake, where an earlier study took place,Ross Powell says the latest study may provide evidence that can help predict the effect of climate change on rising sea levels."What we have found is that these are very sensitive areas to the stability of how dynamic the ice is and how fast the ice may react to increases of melting both from the ocean and the atmosphere."Among the new instruments built for the project was a powerful hot water drill. The researchers used the drill to dig down some 740meters.They collected water, sediment and other material from the grounding zone.Working around the clock before the deep hole refroze, they sent a video camera down to the 400-square-meter undersea area.Reed Scherer says the video images they saw in the Command Center were a total surprise."It's a very mobile environment. The bottom is changing constantly. And so the things that we saw were all very mobile organisms, things that swim and some things that crawl. And obviously they are getting enough nutrition that they can thrive,Some of the little crustacean-like creatures called amphipods that we saw swam quite quickly and were quite active."This is the farthest south that fish have ever been seen. How did the creatures get here? What do they feed on?And what effect will the retreating ice have on them?Ross Powell says the ice and sediment cores taken from the grounding zone can offer clues."We know that the ice is melting there at the moment and so by opening up the cores once they get back,we hope to be able to understand what the ice was doing in the past, relative to what it is doing now.And because it is melting so fast or seems to be melting fast at the moment,we anticipate that there will he some differences that we'll see in the history of the ice sheet from the sediment cores, once we open them up."But Ross Powell says the work raises more questions than it answers.42.Scientists conducted the three-month research at the Ross Ice Shelf with the intention of ______ .A.predicting how climate change influences rising sea levels.B.finding out whether there are life forms existing deep under Antarctic ice.C.proving the speed of ice flowing into the ocean is controlled by water.D.discovering an explanation of the effect the melting ice has on sea level rise.43.What made the researchers surprised when they saw the video images?______A.Researchers saw fish in the farthest south for the first time.B.A video camera was able to work well under deep icy waters.C.Sediment cores present differences in the history of the ice sheet.D.The drill should dig down 740meters to collect things.44.From sediment cores taken from the grounding zone, scientists will probably know______ .A.what the ice will do in the near futureB.the ice in the grounding zone is melting at the momentC.some differences rarely exist in the history of the ice sheetD.something about the creatures under icy water in Antarctic.45.What can be inferred from the passage?______A.Scientists will conduct a follow-up study on the frozen continent.B.No creatures once appeared or lived in icy water in Antarctica.C.America's National Science Foundation is in complete charge of the research.D.Researchers have found how the sediment underneath the ice sheet operates.【答案】【小题1】D 【小题2】A 【小题3】D 【小题4】A【解析】62.D 细节理解题.根据第二段The researchers hoped to find clues to when we need the power of miracles to change our beliefs, they materialize in the places we'd least expect. They can come to us as a drastic alteration in our physical reality or as a simple get to the peak by sunset to see the valley below. As I was winding up the narrow path,I'd occasionally see other hikers who were coming down from a day on the mountain. While they would generally pass with simply a nod or a greeting in another language, there was one man that day who did neither.I saw him coming from the last switchback on the trail that led to the backside of the mountain. As he got closer,I could see that he was dressed differently from the other hikers I'd seen.Rather than the high-tech fabrics and styles that had been the norm, this man was wearing traditional Egyptian clothing. He wore a tattered,rust-colored galabia and obviously old and thick-soled sandals that were covered in dust. What made his appearance so odd, though, was that the man didn't even appear to be Egyptian! He was a small-framed Asian man,had very little hair, and was wearing round,wire-rimmed glasses. As we neared one another,I was the first to speak."Hello,"I said, stopping on the trail for a moment to catch my breath. Not a sound came from the man as he walked closer.I thought that maybe he hadn't heard me or the wind had carried my voice away from him in another direction.Suddenly he stopped directly in front of me on the high side of the trail, looked up from the ground, and spoke a single sentence to me in English,"Sometimes you don't know what you have lost until you've lost it."As I took in what I had just heard,he simply stepped around me and continued his descent down the trail. That moment in my life was a small miracle. The reason is less about what the man said and more about the timing and the context. The year was 1989,and the Cold War was drawing to a close. What the man on the trail couldn't have known is that it was during my Egyptian pilgrimage, and specifically during my hike to the top of Moses's mountain, that I'd set the time aside to make decisions that would affect my career in the defense industry,my friends,my family, and, ultimately,my life.I had to ask myself what the chances were of an Asian man dressed in an Egyptian galabia coming down from the top of this historic mountain just when I was walking up,stopping before me,and offering his wisdom, seemingly from out of nowhere. My answer to was easy:the odds were slim to none!In an encounter that lasted less than two minutes on a mountain halfway around the world from my home,a total stranger had brought clarity, and the hint of a warning, regarding the huge changes that I would make within a matter of days.In my way of thinking, that's a miracle.I suspect that we all experience small miracles in our lives every day.Sometimes we have the wisdom and the courage to recognize them for what they are.In the moments when we don't,that's okay as well.It seems that our miracles have a way of coming back to us again and again. And each time they do,they become a little less subtle, until we can't possibly miss the message that they bring to our lives! The key is that they're everywhere and occur every day for different reasons,in response to the different needs that we may have in the moment. Our job may be less about questioning the extraordinary things that happen in our daily lives and more about accepting the gifts they bring.46.Why did the author make a pilgrimage to Mt.Horeb in Egypt?______A.He was in search of a miracle in his life.B.It was a holy place for a religious person to head for.C.He intended to make arrangements for his life in the future.D.He waited patiently in expectation of meeting a wise person.47.What does the underlined part"my own question"refer to in Paragraph 6?______A.For what reason did the man stop before me?。

Thus she had nothing to eat in the winter. Meanwhile, the ant planned ahead, working hard to lay up enough food for the winter.(34 words)It is obvious that the fable provides a moral lesson about hard work and preparation for the future. First, one needs to work hard to realize his dream just as the famous saying goes “Hardwork leads to success”, which is a universal truth that we must keep in mind forever. Second, we’d better prepare for the days of necessity. As more proverbs illustrate, take an umbrella in case.As for me, I admire the ant for his hard work and good planning. Relax, this will be the best Christmas party ever.M: I don’t mess this up. ⑧The boss will be here any minute to check over what we’ve created here. If he doesn’t like it, it could mean our jobs.W: Darn, I guess I should have gotten him a gift then… Anyway, there’s no possible way that anything could go wrong. The dancers are arriving soon. The musicians and cooks arrived last night.M: Great.W: Y ou need to relax and enjoy the party. Let me get you a drink.M: Y eah, that would be great. Thanks. ⑨And could you get that Santa on the phone too? I want to talk to him and make sure he’s on his way before I do anything else.Text 8:M: Y our study room has been one of the most popular meeting places for university students. (13)It was very convenient but I’m not sure that many people actually enjoyed living there because there were so many of us packed into such a small space.M: Y eah, so what about food? Did you have a kitchen? Did you cook?W: In the dormitories, no! (14)We had a dining hall. It was only open, 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the evening, and we all shared our time together, kind of like a family, I suppose.M: Y eah! Y eah! (16)Y es! Berkeley is highly competitive but it’s also a highly social atmosphere, especially in the dorms.M: Wow! That’s funny! Oh, thanks!Text 10:M: (17)Welcom e to Golden Cruise Lines!
