My Favorite Season
Hello there! My name is Emma, and I'm a fifth-grader at Oakwood Elementary School. Today, I want to share with you my thoughts on my favorite season of the year – summer!
Summer is the best time of the year, and I look forward to it every single year. As soon as the school year ends, and the warm weather starts to settle in, I can't help but feel excited about all the fun activities and adventures that await me during the summertime.
One of the things I love most about summer is not having to wake up early for school. During the summer, I can sleep in as late as I want, and there's no need to rush through my morning routine. Instead, I can take my time, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and plan out my day at my own pace.
Speaking of planning, summer is the perfect time for all sorts of exciting plans and activities. My friends and I always have a
long list of things we want to do during our break from school. One of our favorite activities is going to the local swimming pool. We spend hours splashing around, playing games, and working on our tan lines. Sometimes, we even have swimming races to see who the fastest swimmer is (although I usually end up losing!).
Another summertime tradition for my friends and me is going on camping trips. We love packing up our tents, sleeping bags, and supplies, and heading out into the great outdoors. We spend our days hiking through the woods, exploring nature, and telling scary stories around the campfire at night. It's always a bit spooky sleeping in a tent, but that's part of the fun!
Summer is also the perfect time for outdoor activities like riding bikes, playing frisbee, or having a picnic in the park. My friends and I love to pack a tasty lunch and spend the day lounging on the grass, soaking up the sun, and enjoying each other's company.
One of my favorite summer memories from last year was when my family and I went on a road trip. We packed up the car and hit the open road, stopping at different cities and attractions along the way. We saw so many amazing things, from towering
mountains to historical landmarks. It was such an adventure, and I can't wait to go on another road trip this summer.
As much as I love summer, I know that it can't last forever. Eventually, the days start to get shorter, and the leaves begin to change color, signaling the arrival of autumn. But that's okay – I'll always have the memories of another amazing summer to carry me through until next year.
So, there you have it – a glimpse into why summer is my favorite season. From the warm weather and outdoor adventures to the road trips and lazy days, there's just something special about those few months of freedom and fun. I can't wait to see what exciting experiences this summer has in store for me and my friends!

My Friend and I's Favorite Season
Wow, can you believe it's already Fall again? I just love this time of year! The leaves are changing colors, the air is getting crisp and cool, and the smell of pumpkin spice is everywhere. But you know what I love most about Fall? Getting to spend it with my best friend, Emily!
Emily and I have been inseparable since we were in kindergarten. We met on the first day of school when I accidently knocked over her juice box at snack time. Instead of getting mad, she just laughed and said, "Nice one, klutz!" From that moment on, we were two peas in a pod.
Every year, Emily and I look forward to Fall more than anything. It's like our special season, you know? We have so many awesome traditions and activities that we do together. Let me tell you about some of our favorites!
Pumpkin Picking
As soon as the leaves start to turn orange, Emily and I beg our parents to take us pumpkin picking. There's this amazing pumpkin patch on the outskirts of town that has the biggest, most perfect pumpkins you've ever seen! We spend hours wandering through the vines, trying to find the plumpest, roundest, orangest pumpkins we can find.
Once we've picked out our prizes, we lug them back to Emily's house and her mom lets us carve them into
jack-o-lanterns. Emily is a pro at scooping out all the gooey insides (I still get grossed out by that part), and I'm the master pumpkin carver. One year, I carved such an awesome design that it won first place in the town's pumpkin carving contest!
Apple Picking
Another one of our Fall traditions is going apple picking at the local orchards. We'll spend an entire Saturday morning climbing up and down the ladders, filling our baskets with every variety of apple you can imagine - honeycrisps, galas, red delicious, you name it!
Afterwards, we'll head back to my place and my mom will let us bake apple pies, apple crisps, and every other apple dessert under the sun. The whole house smells like cinnamon and sugar for days. Emily and I never have any problem devouring all of our creations...maybe a few too many! By the end of the day, we're in a total food coma from an apple overload. Worth it? Absolutely.
Jumping in Leaf Piles
Is there anything more fun than jumping into huge piles of freshly raked leaves? I don't think so! Emily's dad is a total
leaf-raking machine and he always creates the most massive, fluffiest leaf piles in their front yard. We'll spend hours taking running leaps and burying ourselves in the crunchy, earthy mountains.
Usually these epic leaf fights end with us laughing so hard that we can barely breathe. We look like total mess afterward,
with twigs and leaves tangled in our hair and scratches all over our arms and legs from the rough branches. But who cares? We're having the time of our lives!
Hiking and Camping
Emily and I are also huge nature lovers, so Fall is primetime for us to get outdoors and go hiking and camping. There are so many awesome trails and parks near our town that are absolutely breathtaking when the landscape is afire with red, yellow, and orange hues.
Sometimes we'll pack up the tent and camping gear and convince our parents to let us go on an overnight camping trip. We'll roast s'mores and hot dogs over the campfire, then bundle up in our sleeping bags and try to spot constellations in the crisp, clear autumn sky. Waking up to the crunch of leaves underfoot and the smell of morning dew is just magical.
I could go on and on about all the different activities Emily and I cram into each Fall. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without her as my partner-in-crime for this most wonderful of seasons. Fall just wouldn't be the same without my bestie by my side.
Yeah, Spring is nice with its blooming flowers, and Summer has its sunshine and pool days. But in my book, nothing beats the colorful, cozy, adventure-filled days of Fall. Emily and I have created so many special memories this time of year - memories that I know we'll look back on with huge smiles

My Friend and I's Favorite Season
Do you have a favorite season? My best friend Jacob and I sure do! It's definitely fall. There are so many amazing things about autumn that make it the best time of the year. Let me tell you all about why we love fall so much.
First off, the weather in fall is perfect. After those super hot and humid summer days, it's such a relief when the temperatures start to cool down. No more sweating like crazy! The crisp autumn air feels so refreshing. Jacob and I love going outside and feeling that cool breeze on our faces. We can finally wear our favorite hoodies and jackets without getting too warm.
The changing leaves are one of the most beautiful parts of fall. During summer, the trees are just plain green. But when autumn arrives, the leaves transform into the most vibrant shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown. It's like the trees are
putting on a multicolored fashion show just for us! Jacob and I have so much fun raking up big piles of leaves in his yard, and then jumping right into them. We try to see who can make the biggest mess spreading leaves everywhere. His mom doesn't really like that part, but we can't resist!
Speaking of Jacob's yard, that's where we spend a lot of our fall afternoons playing. With school back in session, we have less free time during the week. So we really cherish those weekend days when we can be outside for hours on end without worrying about homework. We'll kick around a soccer ball, toss a football, or just run around chasing each other like maniacs. Could you imagine doing that during the summer heat? No way! We'd be way too hot and tired. Fall is the perfect weather for burning off all our endless kid energy.
While we're outside, we also love observing all the changes fall brings to nature. Squirrels are especially fun to watch as they frantically gather up acorns and other nuts, getting ready for winter. Jacob always jokes that those squirrels must be getting paid overtime for how hard they work! We see lots of birds migrating south for the cold months too. We try to point out any unique species we recognize from science class. Blackbirds, robins, blue jays - we've seen them all making their annual
journey. The deer, rabbits, and other woodland creatures seem to be extra active in fall as well, getting in all the food they can before winter arrives. Jacob and I like to see if we can snap any cool pictures of the animals on my mom's camera. Capturing nature at its most beautiful is really fun.
Thanksgiving is another highlight of fall that Jacob and I go crazy for. My family and Jacob's family always get together for the big meal. Can you say food coma? We stuff ourselves so full of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, veggies, and of course pumpkin pie for dessert. It's impossible not to eat way too much - everything is just so delicious! While the grown-ups are watching football after dinner, Jacob and I always organize a game of touch football in the backyard with all our cousins to try and work off some of those calories. It usually ends with us crashing on the couch from exhaustion...and then snacking on leftovers a few hours later!
There's just no beating fall when it comes to holidays, fun activities, amazing weather, pretty nature scenes, and yummy seasonal treats. Hayrides, corn mazes, caramel apples, Friday

My Favorite Season
Seasons are so cool! Each one brings its own special weather, holidays, and fun activities. While I enjoy them all in their own way, there's one season that stands out as my absolute favorite - summer! Let me tell you why summer is the best time of the year.
First off, summer means no school! That's right, two whole months of freedom from homework, tests, and getting up at the crack of dawn. Instead of being cooped up in a classroom, I get to spend my days however I want. I can play outside from dawn until dusk if I feel like it. No teachers nagging me about due dates or classroom rules. Just pure fun and relaxation!
When we get hot and sweaty, there's nothing better than an ice cold popsicle or a big bowl of ice cream to cool us down. We'll sit on the front porch or under a shady tree and devour those frozen treats. Sometimes we get a little carried away and end up with sticky hands and faces, but that's just part of the summer fun!
Another thing I love is that my dad fires up the backyard grill for outdoor barbecues. He makes the most amazing hamburgers and hot dogs piled high with all the fixings. We'll play games in the yard while the delicious smells of grilled food waft through the air. Then we'll all gather around the picnic table, dig in, and swap stories about our summer adventures so far. With the sun
shining down and the sounds of kids playing drifting over from nearby yards, you just can't beat a summer barbecue.
Those are just a few of the reasons why I go absolutely bonkers for summer! From the warm, sunny freedom to the pools, ice cream, barbecues, and fireworks, summer is simply the most fun a kid can have. My friends and I make incredible memories during those carefree months that I know I'll cherish forever.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the other seasons too. The changing leaves of fall are pretty, and I love jumping into big piles of them. The first tingling snowflakes of winter fill me with anticipation for snowmen, sledding, and hot chocolate. Spring's blooming flowers and plants remind me that summer fun is right around the corner.
But when you put them all together, nothing compares to summer. Those long, lazy, crazy days of nonstop fun and freedom can't be topped. From June 1st until the second school bell rings, I'm living my best life. Call me a summer baby through and through!
So that's why summer is my absolute favorite season. What about you? When's your favorite time of year and why? I'd love to hear what makes other seasons special for you. Maybe I'm
missing out on some cool stuff that happens during the rest of the year. Either way, you just can't change this summer-obsessed kid's mind - those sunny, funfilled months will always reign supreme!

My Favorite Season is Fall
Fall is definitely my favorite time of year! There are so many fun things to do and the weather is perfect - not too hot and not too cold. My best friend Taylor and I look forward to fall every year.
When the leaves start changing colors in late September, that's when the excitement really begins. We love walking through our neighborhood admiring the bright reds, oranges, and yellows of the trees. My mom rakes up huge piles of leaves in our yard and Taylor and I can't resist jumping right into them! We make leaf angels and have leaf fights, throwing handfuls of crunchy leaves at each other. Sometimes my dad will rake the leaves into a big pile on the driveway and we'll take running jumps into the mountain of leaves. It's such a fun mess!
Another thing I love about fall is getting to go to the pumpkin patch with my family. We always pick out the biggest,
most perfect pumpkin to carve into a jack-o-lantern. After scooping out all the gooey insides, Taylor and I take turns drawing silly or spooky faces on the pumpkin with a marker. Then my dad carefully carves out the design with a knife. We roast the pumpkin seeds with salt and eat them as a yummy snack. My jack-o-lantern always has to sit on our front porch to welcome trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
Speaking of Halloween, that's one of the most exciting parts of fall! Taylor and I start planning our costumes months in advance. We've been everything from princesses to superheroes to magical creatures. My all-time favorite costume was when we both dressed up as creepy ragdolls with tattered dresses, messy yarn hair, and cracked makeup. We had so much fun scaring Taylor's little brother! Once our costumes are perfect, we can't wait to go trick-or-treating through the neighborhood with our friends. Getting to stay out late eating candy is every kid's dream!
The treats don't stop after Halloween though. There's also all the delicious food that comes with Thanksgiving at the end of November. I go nuts over my grandma's pumpkin pie and stuffing. Taylor's family makes the most amazing sweet potato casserole. We stuff ourselves until we're about to pop! I'm always
so excited when my teachers ask us to make hand turkeys out of paper and construction paper. It's one of my favorite crafts and lets me practice being artistic.
Fall also has the best holidays for spending quality time with family. During our Thanksgiving break from school, my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all come over. While the adults are cooking up a storm in the kitchen, us kids run around playing games like tag or watching movies together. We also love putting together puzzles on a big card table, or having competitions over who can build the biggest Lincoln Log village. With my huge extended family, there's always a fun party game happening like charades or Pictionary. We have a contest for who can eat the most pumpkin pie and my cousin Grant always wins!
Outside of the holidays, there's still so much to look forward to in fall. Taylor and I join the soccer team every September and practice twice a week. We get to run around outside kicking the ball in the crisp fall air. Our cheeks get all rosy from the chill and exercise. We love the feeling of scoring a goal or making an awesome pass to a teammate. Even if we lose, it's still a thrill putting our skills to the test against other schools. Win or lose, we always reward ourselves with a stop for hot chocolate on the
way home. With a toasty mug of cocoa and a squirt of whipped cream, we can chat and laugh about the best moments of the game.
Something else that's unique to fall is going on nature walks to admire the changing foliage. My family likes to go hiking in a nearby forest preserve where the trees seem to glow in brilliant shades of red, purple, and gold. We'll spend hours wandering along the trails, stopping to catch colorful leaves as they drift down around us. My dad always packs a thermos of hot apple cider which tastes amazing after some brisk hiking. When we get home, mom and I use some of the leaves, pinecones, and acorns we collected to make decorations for our Thanksgiving table.
Another fun fall tradition is my town's annual Halloween carnival. Taylor and I go dressed in our costumes and they have games, food booths, hayrides, a petting zoo, even a haunted house! We go crazy for the games where you toss rings to win giant teddy bears or burrow your hand into a bucket of slimy "guts" trying to grab a plastic spider. We also go nuts for the cotton candy, caramel apples, and funnel cakes. By the end of the night our faces are sticky and our tummies are full, but it's all worth it to celebrate our favorite season.
When October rolls around, we also get to go on a class field trip to an apple orchard. It's amazing getting to pick apples right off the trees! We learn all about how apples grow and get to sample fresh hot cider and cider donuts. Heaven! Our entire school even has an apple bake-off where parents and teachers contribute their best apple pies, tarts, breads, cakes, and more. For a whole week the hallways smell like sugary, cinnamony goodness.
As it gets later into November, the morning temperatures get nippy enough for us to see our breath. Frost glistens on the blades of grass and the neighborhood kids get bundled up to tromp around outside before the school bus comes. We debate which gloves, hats, and scarves are the most stylish for the season. Finally, around Thanksgiving time, usually after our fall play and musical at school, we might even get our first dusting of snow! Nothing is more exciting than being the first to make a snow angel. Taylor and I spend countless hours having epic snowball fights and building up our snowman-making skills for when winter officially arrives.
By the time December hits, we're sadly seeing the end of our beloved fall. But we know it will be back again to restart the cycle of coziness, holidays, yummy treats, and outdoor adventures. Fall
holds such a special place in my heart. From running through piles of leaves to picking pumpkins to spending cherished time with family, it's the ultimate season for making wonderful childhood memories. Whenever I see those first few red, orange, and yellow leaves start to appear, I know I'm in for months of fun and festivity with my very best friend by my side. Fall, I'll be waiting anxiously for your return next year!

My Favorite Season
Summer is my absolute favorite time of year! I look forward to it more than anything. As soon as the last few weeks of school roll around in late May, I can barely contain my excitement thinking about the warm sunny days ahead. Summer means no school, no waking up early, no homework, and three glorious months of freedom!
The very best part of summer is all the fun activities there are to do. Pretty much every day, my friends and I have the whole day to fill with whatever we want. We'll often walk or ride our bikes over to the community pool to go swimming. Splashing around and playing pool games is the perfect way to beat the summer heat. Some days we'll have epic water balloon or squirt
gun fights in someone's backyard, drenching each other from head to toe. It's an all-out battle with nowhere to hide! I always end up completely soaked but I don't even care. That's what summer is all about.
When we've had enough of getting wet, we'll dry off and play outdoor sports like basketball, soccer, or tennis. We'll split into teams and have big games that can last for hours in the hot sun. Even though we get sweaty and tired, it's so much fun being active outside with my buddies. We cheer each other on and the games can get pretty competitive, with the winners gloating over the losers. But we're all still best friends at the end of the day.
In the evenings, we'll make s'mores around a backyard fire pit or have a movie night inside with pizza and snacks. Sometimes a bunch of us will set up a big sleepover in someone's basement and stay up all night laughing and eating junk food. Our parents eventually have to tell us to keep it down because we get so loud and ridiculous when we're all sleep deprived together. Those kind of nights make memories that last forever.
Another thing I absolutely love about summer is going on trips and vacations. Every year, my family goes on at least one big road trip adventure. We'll pack up the car and drive
somewhere fun like the beach, the mountains, or a big city we've never explored before. Getting out of our normal routine and experiencing new places is exhilarating. I distinctly remember the anticipation and thrill of each road trip - watching the scenery go by out the window, snacking on road food, and blasting music that my parents think is too loud.
Once we arrive at our destination, that's when the real fun begins! At the beach, I can spend all day riding the waves boogie boarding, making sandcastles, or just laying around reading and relaxing. In the mountains, we'll go on endless hikes surrounded by fresh pine air and incredible views. Visiting a new city means exploring museums, parks, restaurants and tourist attractions. No matter where we go, it's always an adventure full of awesome new sights and experiences.
Summer also means staying up late and sleeping in as much as I want. There's no school to wake up early for, so I can stay up way past my normal bedtime. I'll read books, watch movies, or play video games long into the night. In the mornings, I get to lazily roll out of bed whenever I feel like it with no rush. Those delicious long days with nothing to do are what I live for.
As you can probably tell, I really could go on and on about why summer is so awesome. From the fun activities, to the
vacations, to the food, to the warm weather, to the freedom of not having school - what's not to love? Every winter, I count down the days until summer starts again. Those three months of pure fun and freedom go by way too fast. Before I know it, I'm putting away my shorts and bathing suits and dreading having to go back to school. But no matter what, there's always next summer to look forward to. The sunshine, long days, and feeling of adventure await!。
