You can get a great view of the city from 135 meters up on a huge wheel, the London Eye. Look across the river and you will see the Houses of Parliament and the famous clock tower, Big Ben.
There are over 240 museums in the capital, but the two most popular are in South Kensington and cost nothing to get into. In the Natural History Museum, the key word is Big. Next to it is the Science Museum. It has those great British inventions, the history of flight and exploration (探索) of space.

Last month two brothers, sixteen-year-old Tom and
eighteen-year-old Harry, were on their own at home one
Saturday afternoon. Their parents were on a weekend trip
with some friends. Tom was bored and wanted to have an
adventure. He wanted Harry to drive their mum’s car to the
city. Harry wasn’t happy about it, but he was bored too, so,
in the end, he agreed.
The boys arrived in the city center, and decided to go to the cinema first. Harry parked the car carefully outside the cinema. They watched a great film. Then they were hungry. Harry was happy now, so he stopped at a café, and they ordered a big pizza. After that, Harry wanted to go home, but T om wanted to go to a night club. Harry wasn’t sure, but again he agreed in the end. He parked the car carefully outside the biggest night club in town.
Tom and Harry stayed in the night club for a long time. It was very late when they walked back to the car. Then they noticed that something was terrible. There was a big
dent in the back of the car! They hurried home, and waited until 6 a.m., then they phoned a garage and explained the situation. A mechanic repaired the car, and the boys parked it outside the house just in time! A few minutes later their parents returned home.
The boys were too scared to say anything about the accident. But later that day, their mother checked the car. “Hey! Look at the car!” she shouted. The boys waited nervously. Their mother continued, “I can’t believe it! A truck bumped into my car last Friday, but now you can’t even see the dent!”

The weather is getting hotter and you’ll be getting
thirstier playing basketball or riding home from school. A
cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful what you
pour down your throat. Something that looks cool may
not be good for your health.
There are plenty of so-called energy drinks (功能饮料) on the market. Most of them have an attractive color and cool name. Their nutrition (营养) lists also contain various things from vitamins to ginseng (人参). Sounds great!
But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine (咖啡因). These drinks are typically (典型地) aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players.
Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine raises your heartbeats (脉搏、心跳). Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited their use. The amount of caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as high as in a strong cup of coffee or strong tea.
Research by Australian scientists has found that many teenagers are affected by caffeine. The result of their survey show that 27 percent of boys aged 8—12 take in more caffeine than their parents.
There are potential (可能的,潜在的) health risks (风险) linked to energy drinks. Just one can of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart attacks.
Teenagers should be discouraged from having drinks with a lot of caffeine in them, an expert from the Australia Nutrition Foundation said.

(5分) What can you tell from a person’s music taste? Perhaps more than you think!
The music
we listen to can tell us a lot about our personality. And the latest research shines a light on
heavy metal music and its fans.
Loud, strong, chaotic (混乱的) rock. These are some words that can describe heavy metal. So what type of person listens to such music? As you may expect, men are more likely to listen to it. But research from the University of Westminster, UK, discovered that heavy metal lovers have very similar personalities. Listeners share key features: they don’t like authority (权威) and want to be unique. But interestingly, they found that metal lovers have low self-esteem (自尊).
These features seem to fit together, as the report explains, “Heavy metal may, in turn, help to improve self-worth and promote (促进) positive self-evaluations (自我评价) among those with low self-esteem.” So people with low self-esteem tend (趋向) to use heavy metal as a pick-me-up (令人兴奋的事).
However, much is misunderstood of heavy metal music, and its fans. “Rather than taking fans as antisocial (反社会的) or violent,” as the report suggests, these findings can help us understand the important role music plays in some people’s lives.
Do you enjoy listening to heavy metal music? Maybe some of you have never heard of it before. If you wonder what it sounds like, then why not give it a listen. If you’re not sure who to listen to, here are two of the most well-known bands: Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Go on, give it a try!
