Last Monday where we had a class meeting, our class teacher informed us activities with the theme “n ational flag in my heart”. These activities organizing across China aimed to further our understanding of the national flag and promoted our patriotism(爱国主义). Fully aware of its significant, we couldn’t wait to immediate get started. Over the next several days, we learned more about a topic from various aspects. We went through books on their birth. We also collected online stories of the flag in recent years but realized what it symbolizes for every Chinese. At the weekend, we recorded what we had learned and had presented our work on the blackboard.

SHARK CONSER V ATION I N SOUTH AFRICA
Take a two-week trip that you will never forget as a volunteer with sharks on a beautiful stretch of South Africa’s coastline. Head out to sea to witness one of the world’s most powerful (and most misunderstood) creatures on this inspiring project, enjoying watching them from both above and below water.
The DAY-BY-DAY schedule
Day 1: Arrive in Cape Town on a Sunday. You will be collected from the airport and spend your first night in a guest house in the city center.
Day 2: You will be collected bright and early from the guest house and taken down to the project. The drive takes about 90 minutes. You will receive a welcome and head out to sea to witness your first sharks!
Day 3+: Most days you will be out on the boat with the sharks, depending on weather. Help out with the full range of tasks on the boats, and in conservation initiatives on land too.
Last day: On the final day of your project you will be taken back to Cape Town for your onward travel.
The price is £ 829, including the voluntary work programme with accommodations, airport transfers, one night in a guest house in Cape Town, breakfasts daily and lunches when on the boats. Your trip can be extended at a cost of £375 per week.
It is an amazing experience! Some volunteers planned to stay for 4 weeks, extended to 6 weeks and still didn’t want to come home. If you’d like to chat about this holiday or need help, we’re very happy to help.

A new report connects eating eggs to an increased risk of heart disease. The results follow
several earlier studies that found eating eggs was generally healthy. The study collects data from six other earlier studies. It shows a 6 percent increased risk of heart disease when the number of eggs a person ate each day increased by half an egg.
Norrina Allen, an associate professor at Northwestern University said that, in the United States, eggs are generally one of the top sources of cholesterol(胆固醇)in a person’s daily food. People with higher levels of cholesterol in their food are at increased risk of the development of heart disease later in life. However, Allen added that she would not say that eggs are completely unhealthy. “I’m not saying that people should take them completely out of their food,” she said. “I’m just suggesting that people eat them in a proper amount.”
Some experts believe the new study does not prove that eggs are causing heart disease. “Cholesterol’s role in the development of heart disease has been discussed for more than 30 years,”said Bruemmer, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. “This s tudy does have clear shortcomings, including self-reporting at a single time point,” he added.
Bruemmer said, “Eggs in moderation(适度)are probably acceptable from a nutritional standpoint.” “Moderation,” he added, “is less than one egg a day, including eggs in foods such as bread”.
Holly Andersen, a doctor at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, agrees that the study has “real shortcomings”. One problem Andersen has with the study is that a lot of the egg-eating people in the study also appeared to be eating much meat and proc essed meat. “If you’re taking a lot of processed meat, it doesn’t matter how many eggs you’re eating,” Andersen said.
Also, Andersen said, “the study can only show there is a relation between eggs eating and heart disease. But it cannot prove eggs are the cause of the disease. It may just be that people eating a lot of eggs are also taking a lot of bacon.”
1. What does Norrina Allen agree with?
A. Eggs are completely unhealthy.
B. Eggs contain the most cholesterol.
C. Eggs should be eaten in a right amount.
D. Eggs have no connection with heart disease.
2. What is Bruemmer’s attitude towards the study?
A. Interested.
B. Doubtful.
C. Concerned.
D. Hopeful.
3. What can we learn from Holly Andersen’s words?
A. Eggs and meat cannot be eaten together.
B. Processed meat may cause heart disease.
C. Processed meat should be avoided.
D. The study is supported by evidence.
4. What’s the best title of the text?
A. Do eggs cause heart disease?
B. Are eggs the top source of cholesterol?
C. What’s the proper amount of eggs eaten?
D. Is the cholesterol to blame for heart disease?

Four Goals for Perfect Life
Healthy and Fit
The first goal common to all of us is health and energy. 1 Today, with the incredible advances in medical science, the quality of our health and fitness, and our lifespan(寿命), is largely determined by design, not by chance. People with excellent health habits are far healthier, have more energy, and live longer and better than people who have poor health habits.
Excellent Relationships
2 Fully 85% of your happiness will be determined by the quality of your relationships at each stage, and in each area, of your life. How well you get along with people, and how much they like, love and respect you, has more impact on the quality of your life than perhaps any other factor.
Do What You Love
The third common goal is to do work that we enjoy, to do it well, and to be well paid for it. 3 You want to earn the very most that is possible for you at each stage of your career, whatever you do.
4
The fourth goal we all have in common is to achieve financial independence. 5 You want to be completely free of financial worries. You want to be able to order dinner in a restaurant without using the price listings to determine what you want to eat.
A. We don’t want to get the job that we aren’t well paid and we don’t promote faster.
B. Achieve Financial Independence
C. Money is the most important for we can’t go without it.
D. You want to reach the point in life where you have enough money so that you never have to worry about money again.
E. You want to be able to get and keep the job you want, to get paid more and to get promoted faster.
F. The second goal that we all have in common is to enjoy excellent relationships with the people we like and respect, and who like, love and respect us in turn.
G. We all want to be healthy and fit, to have high levels of energy and to live free of pain and illness.

Wearing the thin sneakers with a few holes, Bobby was getting cold. He had been sitting out in his back yard in the snow for almost an hour, thinking. Try as he might, he could not come up with an idea for his mother’s Christmas gift. He shook his head as he thought, “E ven if I do come up with an idea, I don’t have any money.”
His father passed away three years ago, and the small salary that his mother was earning could hardly make ends meet. Although the family lacked money and material things, they lived with love. Bobby had three sisters, who ran the household in their mother’s absence. All of them had made beautiful gifts for their mother. Frustratingly, he had nothing, and it was Christmas Eve already. Wiping a tear from his eye, Bobby started to walk down to the street.
He walked from shop to shop, looking into each decorated window. Everything seemed so beautiful and so out of reach. It was starting to get dark and Bobby unwillingly turned to walk home when suddenly he caught sight of something shining on the ground. He reached down and discovered a shiny dime.
Never before had anyone felt so wealthy as Bobby felt at that moment. However, his excitement quickly turned cold when he was told that he could not buy anything with only ten cents.
Suddenly the flowers in a shop caught his eye, and he went inside. Bobby presented the dime and asked if he could buy a flower for his mother’s Christmas gift. The shop owner looked at Bobby and his ten cents offering. Then he put his hand on Bobby’s shoulder and said to him, “You just wait here and I’ll see what I can do for you.”
As Bobby waited in the shop, he looked at the beautiful flowers and even though he was a boy, he could see why mothers and girls liked flowers.
The last customer’s leaving brought Bobby back to reality. Bobby began to feel lonely and anxious.

应用文:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m a student from Chongqing, China. I’m writing this letter to report you the urgent situation of the Chinese Yangtze finless porpoise. Because of the human beings’ activities, the number of this precious species has dropped to about 1,000.
As far as I know, your foundation can help those species that are at the edge of dying out. I would appreciate it greatly if you could take action at once. If it is convenient, would you please come to China to have a close observation of the poor porpoises and give us aid and direction to prevent them from dying out?
Thanks for reading my letter and I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua 读后续写:
After what seemed an age, the shop owner came out. There, in his hands, lying twelve long stem, red roses, with leaves of green and tiny white flowers all tied together. Bobby’s heart sank as the owner placed them gently into a long white box. “That will be ten cents, young man,” the shop owner said, reaching out his hand for the dime.
“Could this be true?” thought Bobby. No one else would give him anything for his dime! Sensing the boy’s hesit ation, the shop owner added, “I just happened to have some roses on sale for ten cents a dozen. Would you like to buy them?” This time Bobby did not hesitate. He moved his hand to give the man his dime, and when the man placed the long box into his hands, Bobby knew it was true. Having these flowers for his mother’s Christmas gift, Bobby was more than happy. Walking out of the shop, he heard the shop keeper say, “Merry Christmas!”。
