My name is Michelle Rogers. For most of my life I had been fighting with my body weight. I was either gaining weight or trying to lose it. I wasn’t happy with myself, and I certainly wasn’t able to fully enjoy life. Not only did I feel bad physically, but I felt terrible emotionally. I also knew I wasn’t able to be the best I could be, and with failure after failure in losing weight, I just felt so hopeless to make it.
One day in 2008, I was looking through ads online and saw a treadmill (跑步机) for $100. This time I decided to start small and keep it doable. The first week I started walking 15 minutes on the treadmill at a fixed time every day. The next week I did 16 minutes. Each week I added a minute. Gradually, I increased speed as well as time. Once I got to 30 minutes, the weight started dropping off.
I didn’t lose weight at first, but I didn’t give up like I did in the past. I realized I s tarted feeling better. My legs were getting stronger. I didn’t feel painful like I used to when I got up from my desk. All the efforts I’d been putting into fitness made me want to start eating healthier, too. I began with small changes as well. After these years I started listening to my body. It was refusing food and habits that were bad for me.
Today, the extra weight is gone. I still exercise every morning. I look and feel the best I have never done. Every area of my life has improved and benefited from this change in me. Not only do I have my youthful energy, looks and health back, but also I have more confidence than I have ever had.
14、How did Michelle feel about losing weight before 2008?
A. Confident.
B. Hopeless.
C. Addicted.
D. Annoyed.
15、How many weeks had passed before Michelle’s weight began dropping?
A. 15 weeks.
B. 20 weeks.
C. 25 weeks.
D. 30 weeks.
16、What is NOT my practice now?
A. Doing exercise regularly.
B. Eating healthier.
C. Refusing bad food and habits.
D. Gaining extra weight.
17、What can we learn from Michelle’s story?
A. Time is everything.
B. Interest is the best teacher.
C. Start with small things.
D. Nothing is more important than confidence.
The astronauts working on the International Space Station, the ISS, have started their zero-gravity preview of the World Cup match on Thursday, June 26, between the United States and Germany.
NASA astronauts Steve Swanson and Reid Wiseman and European astronaut Alexander Gerst, called out from Germany, showed off their moves in a soccer exhibition aboard the orbiting lab recently. An American video released today shows their performing space bicycle kicks, headers and, as players tend to do here on the earth, celebrating happily after scoring goals.
NASA's humanoid(仿真)robot Robonaut 2, which is designed to help astronauts perform, even gets into the spirit, waving its arms this way and that.
The weightless action tells a key World Cup game on Thursday in Brazil featuring the two teams currently at the top of the match's so-called "group of Death".
The winner will win the group and move on to the single-elimination (淘汰)"knockout stage" of the World Cup, while the loser may go home, depending on what happens in Thursday's game between Ghana and Portugal, the other two teams in the group. Two teams from the group will advance. If the U. S. and Germany tie, they both will move on to the next stage.
Swanson, Wiseman and Gerst are obviously fond of the World Cup. The three space-flyers also played micro-gravity (微重力) soccer in another video that NASA posted on June 11, the day before the World Cup kicked off.
"We want to wish all the teams and fans on the ground and in Brazil a great World Cup, "Gerst said in that video, "Have fun and have peaceful games. May the best win". The three astronauts make up half of the space station's current Expedition 40. The other three crew members are Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov, Oleg Artemyev and Maxim Suraev.
18、How many astronauts are working on the ISS?
A. Three.
B. Five.

20、Which of the following expressions is mostly related to the soccer game?
A. Kick off
B. Move on
C. Show off
D. Make up
21、There has been a weightless world cup in the ISS because_____________.
A. astronauts love to play football in their ISS
B. astronauts are concerned about the World Cup
C. astronauts are asked to play a weightless game
D. astronauts are curious about a weightless match.
Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I took a fare (出租车乘客) at 2:30 AM. When I arrived to collect, standing on the side way was a small woman in her 80’s with a big suitcase.
After I helped her into the taxi, she gave me an address, and asked, “Could you drive through downtown?” “It’s not the shortest way,” I answered quickly. “I don’t mind,” she said, “I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to a hospice (临终安养院).” I looked in-the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were wet. I quietly reached over and shut off the meter (计价表). “What route would you like me to take?” I ask ed.
For the next two hours, we drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newly married. She had me stop in front of a shabby house where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she’d ask me to slow in front of a particular building and sat staring into the darkness, saying nothing. At last, she said, “I’m tired. Let’s go now.”
We drove in silence to the destination. It was a white building.
“How much do I owe you?” she asked, reaching into her purse. “Nothing,” I said. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly, and whispered a “Thank you”. I squeezed her hand and walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.
I didn’t pick up any more passengers but drove aimlessly lost in thought. What if that woman had come across an impatient driver? What if I had refused to drive through downtown? Great moments often catch us unaware, beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
22、What caused the author to shut off the meter?
A. His distrust of the fare.
B. His pity for the woman.
C. The breakdown of the meter.
D. The cold weather at midnight.
23、What was the aim of the woman’s ride through downtown?
A. To find a place to settle down.
B. To reach the destination on time.
C. To kill time before the hospice opened.
D. To see the city for the last time.
24、What can we learn from the story?
A. Don’t give up and never lose hope.
B. People should respect each other.
C. A small act of kindness brings people great joy.
D. Strangers are family you haven’t known yet.
25、Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. A taxi ride I’ll never forget
B. My strange driving experience
C. The ending of an old woman’s life
D. An old woman passenger and her life

"If Mum finds out that I'm going to the beach, I'll be in big trouble, "I said to myself softly in a low voice.
I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, Mum asked without looking up from her " dish-washing", "Where are you going?" I answered back without hesitation, I am going to the garden to play." After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sign of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence, jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed.
After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bobby. After a while, I saw them near a coconut tree. I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk(游泳裤). For about an hour, we played volleyball happily.
Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared that I would help get the ball for them.
I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed (水草) tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.
I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use. "If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened," I thought silently.

W: No, John will be back then, and he’ll get me home. Thank you, Michael.
M: That’s okay. See you tomorrow.
10、答案:1-3 BCC
解析:W: Hello, everyone. Today I’ll talk about how to improve your pronunciation. Language researchers say pronunciation and fluency are the biggest barriers, followed by grammar, in effective spoken English. However, most people don’t regard pronunciation as a very important part of communication skills. They’re more focused on vocabulary. One reason is that most people are not even aware of their mispronunciations. So it’s important to first find out the words you mispronounce. You should listen to experts, by experts, I mean those who are less likely to make pronunciation mistakes. When listening to them, pay attention to words that sound strange, strange because you pronounce the same words differently. When you come across such words, check a dictionary to confirm their exact pronunciations. You can also search for difficult-to-pronounce words and names, and make a list of them. The last suggestion is to read aloud. Now you’ve got the correct pronunciations of the words, it's time to practice reading them every day.
What’s New for Harbin Ice Festival部分中的“Visitors will be able to ride on the Ferris Wheel and overlook the ice castles in early 2023.(游客将能够在2023年初乘坐摩天轮并俯瞰冰城堡。
根据第一段中“I also knew I wasn’t able to be the best I could be, and with failure after failure in losing weight, I just felt so hopeless to make it.(我也知道我不可能成为最好的自己, 在一次又一次的减肥失败之后, 我只是觉得没有希望做到这一点)”和第二段中“One day in 2008, I was looking through ads online and saw a treadmill (跑步机) for $100.(2008年的一天, 我在网上浏览广告, 看到一个100美元的跑步机)”可知, 在2008年前, 作者认为减肥是没有希望的。
故选B。
15、答案:A
根据第二段中“The first week I started walking 15 minutes on the treadmill at a fixed time every day. The next week I did 16 minutes. Each week I added a minute. Gradually, I increased speed as well as time. Once I got to 30 minutes, the weight started dropping off.(第一周, 我开始每天在固定的时间在跑步机上步行15分钟。
根据第三段中“All the efforts I’d been putting into fitness made me want to start eating healthier, too...It was refusing food and habits that were bad for me.(我在健身上付出的所有努力让我也想开始吃得更健康……拒绝对我不好的食物和习惯)”和最后一段中“Today, the extra weight is gone. I still exercise every morning. I look and feel the best I have never done. (今天, 多余的体重消失了。
我仍然每天早上锻炼。
我看起来
和感觉起来都最好, 这是我以前从来没有过的)”可知, 作者如今减肥成功, 没有了多余的体重, 看起来和感觉起来都最好。
由此推知, 他会继续保持, 坚持锻炼, 健康饮食, 拒绝不好的习惯和饮食。
D项“增加额外的体重”不是他现在的做法。
故选D。
17、答案:C
解析:推理判断题。
根据第三段“I didn’t lose weight at first, but I didn’t give up like I did in the past. I realized I started feeling better. My legs were getting stronger. I didn’t feel painful like I used to when I got up from my desk. All the efforts I’d been putting into fitness made me want to start eating healthier, too. I began with small changes as well. After these years I started listening to my body. It was refusing food and habits that were bad for me.(一开始我没有减肥成功, 但是我没有像过去那样放弃。
