Module 5Ethnic Culture

Yunnan
Yunnan is situated on a plateau in southwest China.“Yunnan” in Chinese means “south of the c louds”．The people of Yunnan are proud of living on this blessed land.People like to call Yunnan the province of “perpetual (永久的) spring”．Because of its abundant natural resources，Yunnan enjoys the reputation of the “kingdom of flora and fauna”，“kingdom of medicinal herbs”，“natural garden”，“hometown of perfumes”，“hometown of animal fossils” and is a popular area for tourism.
The Stone Forest is known as“One of Earth's Natural Wonders”．All visitors to Kunming from home and abroad never hesitate to e here to admire the unique scenes formed by the stones.
Dali，a historically and culturally famous city of China，is famous for her historical interest.During the Tang and Song Dynasties，it was the capital of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms，the political，economic and cultural centre of Yunnan，an important gateway of cultural exchange and trading with south-eastern Asian countries，and an important pass of the ancient “Silk Route of the South”．
Situated in the northwest plateau，Lijiang(the Beautiful River)got its name from its position at the middle
reaches of the beautiful Jinsha River.Scattered on an area of 7,648 square kilometers，the population is made up of the Naxi，Bai，Lisu，Pumi，Yi，Miao minority groups.Affected by the plateau wind from South Asia，Lijiang has two distinctive seasons，the dry and the wet.The
temperature range of the four seasons is narrow.The annual mean temperature ranges from 12.6℃to 9.9 ℃.Called Naxi ancient music as “Chinese classical music live fossil”，the only “alive” Dongba glyph in the world，jade-dragon jokul...all this make Lijiang being the hot tour spot.
