We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Birds, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded. When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration(迁移)is probably the migration of the fish, which is called “salmon”(大马哈鱼). This fish is born in fresh water but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life. When it is old, it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies there. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mice. They leave their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fall into the sea.
Recently, scientists have studied the migration of a kind of lobsters(龙虾). Every year, when the season of bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean. Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go. So, sometimes we know why humans and animals move from one place to another, but at other times we don’t. Maybe living things just like to travel.

The market is a concept(概念,观念). If you are growing tomatoes in your backyard for sale you are producing for the market. You might sell some to your neighbor and some to the local manager of the supermarket. But in either case, you are producing for the market. Your efforts are being directed by the market. If people stop buying tomatoes, you will stop producing them.
If you take care of a sick person to earn money, you are producing for the market. If your father is a steel worker or a truck driver or a doctor or a grocer, he is producing goods or service for the market.
When you spend your income, you are buying things from the market. You may spend money in stores, supermarkets, gas station and restaurants. Still you are buying from the market. When the local grocer hires you to drive the delivery truck, he is buying your labor in the labor market.
The market may be something abstract(抽象的). But for each person or business who is making and selling something, it is very concrete. If nobody buys you r tomatoes, it won’t be long before you get the message. The market is telling you something. It is telling you that you are using energies and resources in doing something the market doesn’t want you to do.

What color do you like best? Do you like yellow, orange and red? If you do, you must be an optimist, a leader, or an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. Do you prefer grey and blue? Then you are probably quiet, shy and you would rather follow than lead. If you love green, you are likely to be strong-minded and determined. You wish to succeed and want other people to see you are successful. At least this is what psychologists tell us. They have been seriously studying the meaning of color preference, and the effects that colors have on human beings. They tell us that we don’t choose our favorite color as we grow up. If you happen to love brown, you do so as soon as you open your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.
Black is depressing while light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. A yellow room makes us feel more cheerful and more comfortable than a dark green one does, and a red dress adds warmth and cheer to sad winter days. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or dark grey.
Remember, then, that if you feel low, you can always brighten your day or your life with a few colorful things. Also remember that you will know your friends(and your enemies)better when you find out what colors they like and dislike. And don’t forget that anyone can guess a lot about you when you choose a piece of handkerchief.
65. According to the passage, men’s 110-meter hurdles Olympic champion and world record holder Liu Xiang is most likely to love the color ______.
A. black
B. green
C. grey
D. brown
66. Why are machines painted orange in some factories, according to the passage?
A. Because workers tend to prefer orange to other colors.
B. Because other colors are forbidden in factories.
C. Because orange machines are easier to clean.
D. Because less accidents happen due to the introduction of orange machines.
67. Which of the following statements is not true according to the passage?
A. It’s possible to cheer you up by enjoying some colorful pictures.
B. You can know your friends better through the color they like or dislike.
C. Some people are born with their colorful preference.
D. One’s color preferen ce is always changeable.
68. The underlined word ‘depressing’ in Paragraph 2 probably means ‘______’.
A. discouraging
B. happy

第二节简答题(共3小题;每小题2分,满分6分)
阅读下面短文,根据第73至第75小题的具体要求,简要回答问题。

In many businesses, computers have largely replaced paperwork, because they are fast, flexible, and do not make mistakes. As one banker said, "Unlike humans, computers never have a bad day.”And they are honest. Many banks advertise that their transactions(交易;业务)are "untouched by human hands” and therefore safe from human temptation. Obviously, computers have no reason to steal money. But they also have no conscience, and the growing number of computer crimes shows they can be used to steal.
Computer criminals(罪犯)don’t use guns. And even if they are caught, it is hard to punish them because there are no witness and often no evidence. A computer cannot remember who used it: it simply does what it is told. The head teller at a New York bank used a computer to steal more than one and a half billion dollars in just four years. No one noticed this theft(盗窃)because he moved the money from one account to another. Each time a customer he had robbed questioned the balance in his account, the teller claimed a computer error, then replaced the missing money from someone else’s account. This man was caught only because he was a gambler. When the police broke up an illegal gambling operation, his name was in the records.
Some employees use the computer’s power to get revenge(报复)on their employers they consider unfair. Recently, a large insurance company fired its computer tape librarian(图书馆员)for reasons that involved her personal rather than her professional life. She was given thirty days notice. In those thirty days, she er ased all the firm’s computerized records.
Most computer criminals have been minor employees. Now police wonder if this is "the tip of the iceberg". As one official says, "I have the feeling that there is more crime out there than we are catching. What we are seeing now is all so poorly done. I wonder what the real experts are doing —the ones who know how a computer works. "
73. Find a word in the passage closest in meaning to the underlined word "mistake".
74. What is the passage mainly about?(回答词数不超过3个)
75. According to the last paragraph, what kind of criminals are the police unable to catch?(回答词数不超过6个)

(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)If you think about World Heritage Sites, you probably think of places associated with ancient art and culture, historical buildings and monuments. And of course, many of these are on the World Heritage List(WHL)(世界遗产名录). But the WHL contains a lot of sites that are not so obvious. Let's look at a few of them.
Citadel(城堡)of Haiti
These monuments were built at the end of the nineteenth century when Haiti became independent and the many thousands of black slaves in Haiti were free for the first time. These ex-slaves built the monuments, which the WHL describes as “a universal symbol of liberty”.
Robben Island(罗本岛)in South Africa
This island was used through the centuries as a prison, a hospital and a military base. But it's probably most famous as a maximum-security prison for political prisoners in the twentieth century. Nelson Mandela was one of its most famous residents. The WHL says it represents “the triumph of democracy and freedom over oppression and racism”.
The Darjeeling(大吉岭)Himalayan Railway in India
This railway was opened in 1881 and is still operating today. It crosses a difficult area of mountain landscape and it is a great example of railway engineering. The WHL says that it is “the first, and still the most outstanding, example of a hi ll passenger railway”.
Borders of France and Spain
This is an area of great natural beauty and the mountains have many interesting geological formations(结构). But it is also an area of small farms. People there still use a type of agriculture that used to be common in mountainous areas of Europe but has almost completely disappeared in modern times.
The city of Brasilia, Brazil
Brasilia is a capital city that was created from nothing in 1956. The WHL calls it “a landmark(地标)in the history of town planning”. The different areas of the city and the buildings themselves were all designed at the same time carefully. Every part of the city shows the ideas of the planner and architect.

范文
A Ten-minute Break
As a Senior Three student, time seems much limited. As a result, more and more students try to study from early morning till late afternoon, even during the ten-minute break. In my opinion, to take a ten-minute break between classes is necessary. Otherwise we will feel tired both physically and mentally.
During the ten-minute break, we do something to get rid of tiredness. What we need is to have a real rest, instead of getting more tired. So doing nothing tiring in that period is really good for us.
My ten-minute break is always pleasing. Sometimes I do some simple exercises. Sometimes I have a free chat with my classmates or just take a walk outside. When the next class begins, I feel
fresh again.

M: No, I didn’t. But I can tell you without any forecast that the weather is going to be rather nasty. H ow overcast the sky is, and there’s the feeling of rain in the air.
W: Yea, autumn is here with the drizzle and slush.
M: Rain or shine, I must go out. I have some shopping to do.
W: They say we’ll have a mild winter.
M: It was horribly cold last winter.
W: But the sunny mornings with the small icicles hanging from the roofs, weren’t they a real pleasure?
M: Yes, they were, but I had no time to go for walks in the morning. Besides, the streets were often terribly slippery and it made walking rather unpleasant…

M: When we say time flies, we are saying that time goes by quickly. You can say: wow, I can’t believe we talked for two hours. Time flies when you’re having fun. Or Alice graduated from high school ten years ago, how time flies. When you kill time, you do something while waiting for something else. You can say: I was early for school, so I killed time at coffee shop, or we have 30 minutes to kill before our movie, what shall we do?

Have you traveled on any of the new large airplanes? If you’ve not been a passenger on one of these planes, try to imagine a jet which is more than seventy meters long and more than five storeys high at the tail. Such a plane cost at least 25 million dollars to build. It cost at least $6,000 to fill this giant with fuel. Inside, the giant jet looks more like a great theatre than a plane. It has six kitchens and they are all needed when the plane is full of passengers. The jet holds more than 400 passengers. Imagine that number in one jet plane!
Is there any danger that the jet’s engines will f ell? Fortunately, the plane appears to be quite safe. On each plane, there are twice as many engines as the jet needs. If two engines fail on the same side, the plane can easily use its other engines to land. There are also two mechanical pilots to take charge if the human pilots cannot fly the plane.

M: Hello, my name is Sandy, I am calling about the apartment advertised in the paper. Can you tell me something about it?
W: Yes, it’s a one-bedroom apartment with a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony.
M: Where does it lie?
W: It’s on Benson road.。
