admit 和confess
admit 动词。

意思是“允许进入、容纳得下、承认”。

表示承认时，是一个常用词，可以接从句、名词或代词、动名词、复合结构。

The ticket will admit three to the concert. 这张票允许三个人进去听音乐会。

The theatre only admits 1000 persons. 这个剧院只能容下一千人。

This man admits that his motive is profits. 那人承认他的目的就的赢利。

I admit my fault. 我承认我的错误。

She admits having seen us. 她承认看见过我们。

They admited him to be mad. 他们承认他有精神病。

confess 动词。

意思是“承认、认罪、忏悔”。

可以接从句、名词、动名词、复合结构、介词to引起的短语。

也可以用过去分词作定语。

I confess you are right on one point. 我承认你在某一点上是对的。

I must confess my error. 我必须认错。

The minister confessed himself to be a thief. 这个牧师承认自己是个小偷。

He confessed taking part in a plot to free the prisoner.
他承认参加了解放囚犯的秘密计划。

I confess to having heard about it. 我承认听说过。

A fault confessed is falf redressed. 错误的承认就是一半的改正。

He confessed to the priest before he died. 他死前向神父作了忏悔。

ago 和before
ago 副词。

意思是“以前”。

指从现在起到过去时间的某一点的一段时间。

谓语动词常用一般过去时。

在句中多作状语，偶尔也作表语。

如果不具体表明多少时间以前，只能用before，而不用ago。

表示某一点时间或某事件以前时，也只能用before,而不能用ago。

例如：
Mr. Li came to see you two hours ago.
李先生两个小时以前来看你了。

That was over twenty years ago, but he perfectly remembered.
那是二十多年前的事了，可他还记得一清二楚。

He left for Shanghai two weeks ago. 他两周前去上海了。

before 副词、介词、连词。

意思是“从前、在......之前”。

指过去某时间以前，谓语动词多用过去完成时。

如果不具体表明多少时间“以前”，也用一般过去时。

例如：
He said that he had seen the film two days before. 他说他两天前看过这部电影。

（副词）
They asked me whether I had been to Beijing before. 他们问我以前是否去过北京。

（副词）
I had never seen a Red Aamy man before I arrived in xi'an. 我到西安以前，没有看到过红军。

(连词)
The class was over before his arrival. 课上完了他才到。

（介词）after 和since
after 介词、连词、副词、形容词。

意思是“在......之后、后来、后来的”。

例如：
After eleven, he went to bed. 十一点后，他去睡觉了。

I will write to him after you leave. 你走后我会写信给他。

A moment after there was a knock at his door.（副词）
一会儿后，有人敲他的门。

The after results of the storm were terrible. 那场暴风雨后的结果是可怕的。

（形容词）
since 介词、连词、副词。

意思是“自从”。

要注意动词的时态。

例如：
She had loved Shakespeare since childhood.自从童年起，她就喜欢莎士比亚。

（介词）
Since I was a child I have lived in England.自从我还是一个儿童起，就一直生活在英国。

（连词）
We parted, and we haven't met since.自从我们分手后，就再没有见面。

（副词）
特别注意：英语中有不少动词是终止性动词，一经发生很快就结束了，动作不能延续。

这类动词用于完成时的时候，不能跟用表示一段时间的for短语连用，但此时可以用it is ...since 的句型来表示。

例如：
It is a month since he borrowed the dictionary. 译文：他借词典有一个月的时间了。

但He has kept the dictionary for a month. 也是正确的。

而He has borrowed the dictionary for a month. 则是错误的。
