There are many things we can do to help reduce air pollution and global warming.
Use buses and trains instead of cars, as they can carry a lot more people in one journey. Wal or riding a bike whenever you can is even better, as it does not create any pollution. And exercise can keep you fit and healthy.
If your parents must use the car, ask them to avoid using it for very short journeys if possible, as this creates unnecessary pollution.
Energy is produced to generate electricity (发电). Most energy is produced by the burning of fossil fuels (矿物燃料), like coal, oil and gas, which produce CO₂. As an individual, you do not have a lot of control over how your energy is produced. However, you can control the way in which you use that energy. Using less energy means less of it needs to be produced. So less CO₂is put into the air.
We can also help prevent pollution from our own homes. Turning off lights when they are not needed and not wasting electricity will reduce the need for energy. Less electricity will need to be produced and so less coal, oil and gas will have to be burnt, which means less air pollution and less CO₂! Also, most of the rubbish we throw away can be recycled, such as glass bottles, steel, plastic bottles and waste paper.
( )66. When we go out, we should ________ to protect the environment.
① take a bus ② ride a bike
③ avoid using cars for short journeys ④ avoid using trains for long journeys
A. ①③④
B. ①②④
C. ①②③
D. ②③④
( )67. Which of the following is NOT fossil fuel?
A. Soil.
B. Coal.
C. Oil.
D. Gas.
( )68. What can we do to prevent pollution in our own homes?
A. Use air cleaner.
B. Turn off the lights.
C. Go on a journey with friends.
D. Throw out the rubbish every day.
( )69. Which of the following is TRUE, according to the passage?
A. When we have to drive a car, we should try to drive more quickly.
B. More CO₂ is good for the environment.
C. We shouldn’t waste electricity at home.
D. We can’t control how we use energy.
( )70. What would be the best title for the passage?

Seventeen pre-school kids graduated on Wednesday from a special school program. All of them had cancer.
The kids wore white caps and white gowns (长袍) on graduation day. The ceremony was held at the Morgan Center in Hicksville.
“This is home,”said Fran Hirst, whose son, Bradley, suffered from leukemia (白血病).
Like his classmates, Bradley couldn’t attend regular schools. “He can’t go to school. He can’t go to malls. This is all he has,” said Hirst.
The Morgan Center provides a safe environment for these kids. “We give them friends and experiences and a happy place to go,” said Nancy Zuch.
Zuch and her husband, Rod, started the Morgan Center after their own daughter, Morgan, was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer in 2000.
Now cancer-free, Morgan, 16, handed the new graduates special medals (奖牌).“It’s such an amazing feeling, because I couldn’t have these experiences,”Morgan said.
On graduation day, the difficulties of a long year were replaced (代替) by smiles and cheers.
Bradley threw his graduation cap in the air just weeks after three months in the hospital for treatment (治疗). His mother said the chance to return to the Morgan Center kept Bradley going. “Just to see your kid in normal surroundings, it’s everything,” said Hirst, as her son sat on the floor, playing with a dinosaur.

Dear Mr. Stoker,
I’m very happy to have the chance to show you my plan for the graduation ceremony. In my plan, there will be three activities to celebrate it. First we can invite our teacher to give us a speech with his best wishes. Then we can talk freely. We have learnt a lot over these years, but we could hardly succeed without our teachers’ effort, our parents’ support and our classmates’ help. We should thank all of them for what they have done for us. Finally, we can sing a song and take some pictures.
That’s all. I hope you will choose my plan.
Yours,
Li Dong。
