Deng Jiaxian, known as the "father of Chinese nuclear physics", was born on September 22, 1924 in the city of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He was a prominent Chinese physicist and a key figure in China's nuclear weapons program.
Deng graduated from Tsinghua University in 1945 and later studied at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. He received his PhD in theoretical physics in 1950 and returned to China, where he began his career as a nuclear physicist.
In the early 1950s, Deng was appointed as the head of the theoretical physics group at the Institute of Modern Physics in Beijing. He made significant contributions to China's nuclear weapons program, including the development of the country's first atomic bomb in 1964. Deng also played a key role in the development of China's hydrogen bomb in 1967.
Deng was a highly respected scientist both in China and abroad. He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1957 and was awarded numerous honors for his contributions to science and technology. Deng's work in nuclear physics was instrumental in establishing China as a nuclear power on the world stage.
In addition to his scientific achievements, Deng was also known for his humility and dedication to teaching. He mentored many young physicists and was a beloved professor at the University of Science and Technology of China.
Deng Jiaxian passed away on November 29, 1966 at the age of 42. He left behind a legacy of scientific excellence and a lasting impact on China's nuclear program. Deng's contributions to the field of nuclear physics will always be remembered and celebrated in China and around the world.。
