Grandparents Answer a Call
As a thirdgeneration native of Brownsville, Texas,Mildred Garza never planned to move away.Even when her daughter and son asked her to move to San Antonio to help with their children, she politely refused.Only after a year of friendly discussion did Ms.Garza finally say yes. That was four years ago.Today all three generations regard the move as a success, giving them a closer relationship than they would have had in separate cities.
No statistics show the number of grandparents like Garza who are moving closer to adult children and grandchildren.Yet there is evidence suggesting that the trend is growing.Even President Obama's mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, has agreed to leave Chicago and move into the White House to help care for her granddaughters.According to a study by ,83 percent of the people said Mrs.Robinson's decision will influence grandparents in the American family.Two-thirds believe more families will follow the example of Obama's family.
“In the 1960s we were all a little wild and couldn't get away from home far enough or fast enough to prove we could do it on our own,”says Christine Crosby,
publisher of Grand, a magazine for grandparents.“We now realize how important family is and how important it is to be near them, especially when you're raising children.”
Moving is not for everyone.Almost every grandparent wants to be with his or her grandchildren and is willing to make sacrifices, but sometimes it is wiser to say no and visit frequently instead.Having your grandchildren far away is hard, especially knowing your adult child is struggling, but giving up the life you know may be harder.
1.Why was Garza's move a success?
A.It strengthened her family ties.
B.It improved her living conditions.
C.It enabled her to make more friends.
D.It helped her know more new places.
2.What was the reaction of the public to Mrs.Robinson's decision?
A.17% expressed their support for it.
B.Few people responded sympathetically.
C.83% believed it had a bad influence.
D.The majority thought it was a trend.
3.What did Crosby say about people in the 1960s?
A.They were unsure of themselves.
B.They were eager to raise more children.
C.They wanted to live away from their parents.
D.They had little respect for their grandparents.
4.What does the author suggest the grandparents do in the last paragraph?
A.Make decisions in the best interests of their own.
B.Ask their children to pay more visits to them.
C.Sacrifice for their struggling children.
D.Get to know themselves better.

Tykoon is an online website that allows you to teach your child financial principles through allowances, assignment of tasks and daily chores. As the parent,
you can assign a cash value to the things you want your child to do.Then, your child can go in,accept the task and add it to his wish list of what he would like to purchase with the money that he earns.
Let's start with the parent side of things. The parent must be the one to set up an account. You simply enter your information and your child's information to get started. You are then able to assign allowance amounts to your child.
Then you can add tasks for your child to accept and link them to either his weekly allowance or a predetermined amount.Your child is then able to accept or decline his tasks. He can see how much each task earns, how often he needs to do it and what he will get if he does!He can add items that he is working toward earning and can even earn non-cash incentives such as extra TV time or staying up late!
Tykoon is a great way to start teaching your child about responsibility and financial principles in a fun and safe way.Through the creation of his own profile and the ability to accept or decline tasks,he is taught the skills that he will need later in life when he is managing his own budget! So,sign up for a free account today and watch your child get excited about doing his chores!
And right now,as a special reward,if you share Tykoon with your friends and have five friends sign up and stay active for more than a month, you'll earn a $25 gift card!So get your child enrolled(注册),tell your friends and let's start teaching all our kids about the important financial principles today!

wear down“使消瘦,使厌烦”;wear off“渐渐减少,消逝”;wear away“消磨,打发,虚度,(时光等)流逝”。
in rags“破衣烂衫,衣衫褴褛”;in vain“徒劳”;in sight“看见”;in control“处于控制中”。
be intended for...“专门为……,专门给……”。
come across“偶遇”;pick up“买到”;deal with“处理”;take in“收留,收容”。
consist of“由……构成”,为不及物动词短语,没有被动语态;be made up of“由……
的原因”;而that's because...
expectation“期望”;
contribution“贡献”;civilization“文明”。
adore doing sth.“喜欢干某事”;dream of doing sth.“梦想做某事”。
12.C rescue sb.from...
由后半句的“out of it when I get paid”可知A项正确。
in debt“欠债”;in trouble“陷入困境”;in vain“徒劳的”;in danger“陷入危险”。
15.D marry sb.“和某人结婚”;be married to可以表示延续的动作,而get married不可以。
Ⅱpared to/with Shanghai 2.why I left
3.Although he has written a lot of books 4.donated money to support 5.that/which he told us
根据第一段中的...giving them a closer relationship...
83 percent of the people said Mrs.Robinson's decision will influence grandparents in the American family. Two-thirds believe more families will follow the example of Obama's family.
In the 1960s we were all a little wild and couldn't get away from home far enough or fast enough to prove we could do it on our own...
Moving is not for everyone.以及it is wiser to say no and visit frequently可知,作者建议老年人从自己的利益出发,做出选择,A项的表述与此相吻合。
根据visit frequently可知,文中指的是祖父母常去看看晚辈,而不是B项的“让他们的孩子多多探望他们”,故B项表述有误;文中虽然有is willing to make sacrifices和your adult child is struggling,但并不是要让祖父母为晚辈做出牺牲,故C项错误;D项在文中未提及。
故选A。
根据下文“such as extra TV time or staying up late”可推知,“incentives”表示的是一种奖励。
