合作在课堂教学中的重要性
Cooperation is one of the most widely taught skills. At an early age, we are taught “united we stand, divided we fall.” Cooperation means working together to achieve a common goal. So,What are the benefits of collaboration in education?
Through the method of collaboration in the classroom, students can learn far more than just academic concepts. It also prepares them for the real world outside, since collaboration skills are required by all employers and recruiters. Through collaborative techniques, students also develop a better attitude toward learning. I will discuss the various benefits of collaboration in the classroom.
It boosts creativity in the classroom When students deeply collaborate with each other, they are encouraged to throw in their ideas and suggestions that may seem ‘wild’ or unconventional. It can develop students’ creativity and innovation skills. This might not happen in traditional classrooms, where students’ participation is much lesser compared to a collaborative classroom.
It increases the self-awareness of students Collaborative learning also improves the self-awareness of students. Self-awareness is highly essential for the personal development of any individual. Through better self-awareness, students can understand their strengths as well as their weaknesses. This can be further developed by constant interactions and constructive feedback from other students.
It improves academic achievement Learning concepts and theories are always better when done in a social setting. Collaborative learning can even make dry theories and subjects fun and interesting. Students not only learn the theory from books and the teacher but also from their peers and their unique points of view on the subject. This can greatly enrich knowledge retention in the students’ minds.
It teaches critical thinking skills Critical thinking can only be developed by continuous practice. Through collaborative learning, students can sharpen their critical thinking
skills through healthy discussions and debates. Through discussions, students can explore topics from different perspectives and also learn about real-life applications. Thus, the learning becomes a lot more holistic in nature.
It also develops interpersonal skills Interpersonal skills also can be sharpened through collaborative learning. When students are learning together, they learn to communicate thoughts and feelings in a clearer and more concise manner. They can also learn to give feedback in an honest yet respectful manner, and also learn to receive feedback positively.
It brings an active approach to learning In traditional classrooms, students have a more passive approach to learning. They are expected to listen and understand theories and concepts from an external source. This is not the case in collaborative learning, where the students are highly active in the learning. They would educate themselves through different resources.
It increases the attendance of students In collaborative learning, students find classes fun and engaging. They have individual roles and responsibilities to fulfill, and thus show better attendance in classrooms
It brings students and teachers closer together Collaboration in the classroom does greatly improve the relationship between students. It also improves the student-teacher relationship. As teachers are facilitators and guides in this process, the students learn to fend for themselves and depend on the teachers for clarification. Thus, the teacher is not seen as hostile, but friendly and approachable.。
