As a translator, I have had the privilege of
translating for many clients over the years. One of the most memorable experiences I had was translating for the famous Chinese table tennis player, Ma Long.
Ma Long is a household name in China and is widely regarded as one of the greatest table tennis players of all time. He is known for his incredible speed, agility, and precision on the table. When I was approached to translate for him, I was both excited and nervous.
During our first meeting, I quickly realized that Ma Long was not only a talented athlete but also a very humble and down-to-earth person. He spoke very little English, so my role as a translator was crucial. I had to make sure
that I accurately conveyed his thoughts and ideas to his English-speaking audience.
One of the challenges I faced was translating some of
the idioms and expressions that Ma Long used. For example, he once said, "我会把每一个球都当作最后一个球来打", which roughly translates to "I treat every ball as if it were the last one." This expression may not make sense to someone
who is not familiar with table tennis, so I had to find a way to explain it in a way that would be easily understood.
Overall, translating for Ma Long was a great experience. It allowed me to not only improve my language skills but
also gain a deeper appreciation for the sport of table tennis.
