Cupid is the most famous of Valentine symbols and everybody knows that boy armed with bow and arrows, and piercing hearts . He is known as a mischievous, winged child armed with bow and arrows. The arrows signify desires and emotions of love, and Cupid aims those arrows at Gods and Humans, causing them to fall deeply in love. Cupid has always played a role in the celebrations of love and lovers. In ancient Greece he was known as Eros, the son of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. To the Romans, he was Cupid, and his mother was Venus.

Long ago there was a man who went to war. His wife was leaning against a big tree in a high mountain while hoping for his man to return home day and night. Because of her continual longing, she was sobbing under the big tree all the time. After her tears dried, she dropped blood from her eyes without noticing. To everyone’s surprise, when the dropped blood fell to the ground, they became red beans. The red beans rooted and then grew into big trees. Soon later, red beans covered the branches and people named them love beans. Day after day, the fruits changed into the most beautiful seeds: love beans.

Legend says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.
In Greek mythology，Aphrodite is very beautiful. She fell in love with Adonis. Adonis likes hunting. When he was hunting, he was bitten by a wild boar, blood dropping. Aphrodite heard his screaming, trying her best to save her lover. White roses are everywhere in the valley, her leg ,feet and hand were torn by the throne. But Adonis was dead. Aphrodite was very sad. The white roses changed into red roses because of her blood.
