Teaching aims: To introduce some knowledge of making a programme and writing a notice;
To enhance integrated skills of listening, speaking and
writing;

Teaching method: Listening and speaking; Writing;
Teaching procedure:
I: Lead-in
1. Did you attend any activities in this school? Please talk about them.
2. Show some pictures of TALKS by the headmaster, Mr Gong Yong and Mr Su Xing. (T: He is giving a talk on oral English.)
II. Skills building 1: Understanding a programme
1. In order to give a talk, we need to make a programme first. Let’s go to P1
2. Please read the first part and find out:
(1) What is a programme?
(2) What does a programme usually include?
Date, day, time, place, event/activity.
2. Do you know how to read and write them?
(1) date: 1st January----(on) 1st Jan, 1 Jan (Read: January the first, the first of January)
Short for the months: Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun.
Jul. Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.
(2) day: (on) Mon. Tue. Wed. Thur. Fri. Sat. Sun.
(3) time: (at) 9 a.m./ 09.00 6:45p.m./ 18.45
at 9.30 a.m. = at 9.30 in the morning
at 4.45 p.m.= at 4.45 in the afternoon
(4) place: (in , at , on) in Room 404, Building 1
on 4th floor, School Library
at Datong High School
(5)event/activity: art festival, sports meeting, school concert
This is the most important part f the programme.
III. Listening Comprehension: Step 1
1.If you want to attend an activity, you should get the right information.
Now let’s challenge ourselves and do a listening comprehension. P13.
(Step1: completing a timetable for a school programme)
2.Analyze the timetable and explain what to do. Then play the listening
part twice for students. Then check the answers.
IV. Groupwork
1.Ask one student: What talk will be given on 13 Oct? Lead them to
answer like this: A student from the USA is going to talk about School life in the UK at 3 p.m. in Room 404, Building.
2.Ask students to work in groups and retell the information.
3.Ask some pairs to give a presentation.
V.Skills building 3: Writing a notice
1.T: Well done. You can tell the information clearly. You are very good
monitors. Then why not write the information down and let your classmates know the programme? Please turn to P16. Read the first part and answer two questions:
(1)What is a notice?
(2)What is the information about a notice?
2.Turn to P17. Show two notice patterns on PPT and explain them to the
class. Please write a notice about the talks that your class will attend.
Make sure that you include all the important information in step 1.
(Give them enough time to write.)
3.Ask a student to write down her notice on the blackboard. Students
read and give comments on her notice and writing.
4.Show a sample notice on PPT, explain it and ask students to read it
aloud together.
VI. Conclusion&Homework
Please review what we learned today and then design a notice to inform your classmates of the talks in step 1.。
