CONSTITUTION:A developer volume sensor 6 is fitted to a housing 1 of a developing machine incorporating a developing roll 2, a mixer 4, etc. When the quantitative lack of the developer is detected by the sensor 6, a detecting signal is supplied to a microprocessor. If the detecting signal is continuously impressed from the sensor 6 even if the developer is supplied within a fixed period after starting the operation of a carrying auger in a developer supplying means after the detection of the lack, the microprocessor decides that the developer stock tank 3 is vacant and displays the vacancy of the tank 3. In said constitution, the volume of the developer in the developing machine and the stock tank can be detected only by one sensor even if the one-component group developer is used.
