The Fragrant Hills Park, about 30 kilometres northwest of Beijing,(No Cellphones in the C, is one of the most favourite resorts in the city's outskirts. It covers an area of 160 hectares. In 1186, in the Jin Dynasty, the Fragrant Hills Temple was built and terraces, pavilions and pagodas were added by the subsequent dynasties. The area was later converted into a park and was named the Park of Tranquility and Pleasure.Along with Yuanmingyuan and the Surmmer Palace, the park was twice destroyed in 1860 and in 1900. The destruction was so serious that the reconstruction efforts made in the later years were never able to restore its original scale and splendour. After 1949, large-scale restoration took place and now the Fragrant Hills Park is a pop- ular place in late autumn for holiday-makers when the maple leaves redden. The brilliant foliage is the main attraction. No one is sure where the sumac trees originated. Legend has it that a south wind carried the seeds of the red-leaf trees to Beijing. Then the seeds survived, and as years passed they grew into a lovely forest. Another story goes that the sumacs were transplanted to the area by Emperor Qianlong (l736-l795) of the Qing Dynasty. In November, the frosted leaves of these trees, along with the persimmons and maples, spread over the Fragrant Hills like a thick red blanket. For two centuries, it has been a resort for the residents in Beijing.Major places of interest in the park include:Spectacles LakeBuilt in l745, the Spectacles Lake actually consists of two pondsseparated and spanned by a stone bridge. When the water reflects the sunlight, the twin lakes resemble a pair of spectacles, hence the name. On the shore is a small stone cave with a spring above it. The water drips down over the entrance of the cave, The Power of actions, forming a water screen that freezes into icicles in winter.Studio of Tranquil HeartIt was first built in mid-16th century under the Ming and was reconstructed in the Qing period. In the enclosure there is a large semi-circular pool in the shape of a heart. The studio was burned down in 1860 and was renovated after 1949.Bright TempleLying to the south of the Studio of Tranquil Heart, the Bright Temple was built in 1780 as a residence for the Sixth Bainqen Erdeni when he visited Beijing. The compound has a 10-metre-high red terrace in Tibetan style. It was destroyed by the Anglo-French troops in 1860.(一)把握方法:(1)留意章节构造,合理布局逐渐一部分(opening paragraph)——讲出原文中的关键点、关键难题。

历年上海英语口试作文

历年上海英语口试作文Here is an essay on the topic "Shanghai English Oral Exam Over the Years" with a word count exceeding 1000 words, written in English without any additional title or extra punctuation marks.Shanghai, the bustling metropolis on the eastern coast of China, has long been a hub for education and cultural exchange. One of the most significant aspects of this dynamic city's academic landscape is the annual English oral examination, a rite of passage for countless students aspiring to showcase their linguistic prowess. Over the years, this exam has evolved, reflecting the city's ever-changing educational landscape and the growing emphasis on global communication skills. The Shanghai English Oral Exam has its roots in the city's commitment to fostering a multilingual environment. As China's financial and commercial center, Shanghai has attracted individuals from around the world, creating a melting pot of cultures and languages. The exam's inception was a natural response to this diversity, aiming to equip students with the necessary skills to navigate the global landscape effectively. In the early years, the exam primarily focused on assessing students'grasp of English grammar, vocabulary, and basic conversational abilities. Candidates were often asked to engage in structured dialogues, answer comprehension questions, and demonstrate their understanding of idiomatic expressions. The emphasis was on traditional language learning, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and adherence to grammatical rules. However, as the world became increasingly interconnected, the exam's focus gradually shifted to reflect the changing demands of the 21st century. The exam began to place greater emphasis on communicative competence, challenging students to engage in more natural, spontaneous conversations. Candidates were required to discuss a wider range of topics, from current events and popular culture to personal experiences and future aspirations. One of the most significant changes in the exam's evolution has been the incorporation of multimedia elements. In recent years, the exam has incorporated the use of audio and visual stimuli, requiring students to analyze and respond to information presented in various formats. This shift has not only tested their language skills but also their ability to think critically and adapt to different communication scenarios.Another notable development in the Shanghai English Oral Exam has been the increased emphasis on intercultural awareness and globalcitizenship. Candidates are now expected to demonstrate an understanding of cultural nuances, communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and navigate cross-cultural interactions with sensitivity and diplomacy. This emphasis on intercultural communication has been particularly important in a city like Shanghai, where the influx of international businesses, organizations, and individuals has created a dynamic and diverse environment. The exam's focus on this aspect has equipped students with the necessary skills to thrive in a globalized world, where the ability to bridge cultural divides and communicate effectively is paramount. As the Shanghai English Oral Exam has evolved, so too have the expectations and preparation strategies of the students. Gone are the days of rote memorization and rigid adherence to textbook dialogues. Today, students are encouraged to engage in authentic conversations, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate a nuanced understanding of language and culture.Preparation for the exam has become a multifaceted endeavor, involving not only language practice but also exposure to diverse perspectives, immersion in global media, and active engagement in extracurricular activities that foster intercultural exchange. Students are encouraged to seek out opportunities to interact with nativeEnglish speakers, participate in language-learning clubs, and even travel abroad to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the language and its cultural contexts. The impact of the Shanghai English Oral Exam extends beyond the individual candidates. The exam has become a driving force in shaping the city's educational landscape, influencing curriculum development, teacher training, and the overall emphasis on language education. Schools and educational institutions have responded to the exam's evolving demands by adapting their teaching methodologies, incorporating more interactive and communicative approaches, and fostering an environment that nurtures global competence. Moreover, the exam's influence has rippled beyond the confines of the classroom, with employers and industry leaders recognizing the value of the skills it cultivates. Proficiency in English and the ability to navigate cross-cultural interactions have become increasingly sought-after traits in the job market, making the Shanghai English Oral Exam a crucial stepping stone for students aspiring to succeed in the global economy. As Shanghai continues to evolve and solidify its position as a leading international hub, the Shanghai English Oral Exam will undoubtedly continue to adapt and evolve. The exam's future iterations will likelyincorporate emerging technologies, such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, further enhancing the assessment of language skills and cultural competence.Furthermore, the exam may expand its scope to encompass a more diverse range of languages, reflecting Shanghai's growing multilingual landscape and the city's commitment to fostering a truly global mindset among its students. This evolution will not only benefit the individual candidates but also contribute to the city's broader vision of becoming a world-class center of education, innovation, and cultural exchange. In conclusion, the Shanghai English Oral Exam has been a testament to the city's unwavering dedication to language education and global competence. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a benchmark for linguistic proficiency, the exam has undergone a remarkable transformation, mirroring the changing needs of a rapidly globalizing world. As Shanghai continues to shape the future of education, the Shanghai English Oral Exam will undoubtedly remain a cornerstone of the city's academic landscape, empowering generations of students to become confident, adaptable, and culturally aware global citizens.。

Y ou would go out and buy them in a store or supermarket. But now in the 21st Century, there is a new way to do----it is to buy things online. How interesting, isn’t it?There are many good reasons to shop online. First of all, it is convenient. When you want to buy something, you do not need to go out, but to sit before your computer and browse the web pages like EBAY. Then you choose what you want and buy it with just a click of your mouse. Shopping online can help you save lots of time, money and energy. In addition, there are much more goods online which you have never seen in the store. Y ou can check the information of the owner before you decide to buy and pay for the goods. Y ou can make payment online and you don’t need to worry that your information may be stolen. If you want to enjoy shopping, you can choose online shopping to get what you want.2. The USA Pavilion—Spirit of AmericaWe often hear people say “Spirit of America”, but what exactly does the phrase mean? We’ll have a close experience of the country’s spirit in the huge gray steel structure of the USA Pavilion at the World Expo hosted by China, opening in Shanghai on May 1.With the theme of “Rise to the Challenge”, the exhibition building is meant to look like an eagle stretching its wings in welcome. In keeping with the Expo’s theme of “Better City, Better Life,” the challenges depicted will be creating environmentally friendly communities, enjoying a healthy lifestyle and using technology to improve people’s lives. The pavilion presents the US as a place of opportunity and diversity where people come together to change their communities for the better.3. The life of the students in Senior ThreeMost of the students in Senior Three are used to studying day and night, dealing with one problem after another and they are living a very busy and boring life. So do I. I seldom complain about it as I want to be a student of a famous university. But, sometimes, I wonder whether such a life is worth living. I know how important my study is at the moment, and I understand how our teachers and parents worry about our studies. They all hope I will have a bright future. However; is it the only way to get into a good university? No doubt, I have to keep on studying hard. But I have decided to relax myself a little bit by doing something I like to. For example, chatting with my friends, visiting some exhibitions or taking part in some public welfare activities. I think the life of Senior Three students be rich and colorful.4. Is it worthwhile to study abroad? Some people think it worthwhile to study abroad. One advantage is that going abroad to study takes us to a different culture, environment and language. In a different culture, we can meet people who think differently from our way we do. Another advantage is that it is very effective for us to go to the country where the language is spoken. We are forced to use the language whether or not we feel like it, so we can learn more rapidly and more easily.Other people believe there are more disadvantages to studying abroad. For example, we often pay high transportation costs as well as high tuition and living expenses. We are surrounded by people who have such a different culture that we feel completely out of place and very lonely sometimes.Despite these negative possibilities, it is important for our future that we overcome the disadvantages. If we overcome our fears and culture shock, going to study abroad is very helpful to us in disciplining our will, improving our minds, and promoting our cultural understanding.5. On Private TutorSome people think taking on a private tutor is good for students in some ways. The tutor can answer the questions individually and carefully and give them detail advice. With the timely help of their tutor, students can solve difficult problems as soon as possible and it will do good to their rapid progress. Some private tutors assign their students more exercises to do and students will learn extra knowledge from their tutors. It is known to us all that a good and experienced teacher can help his students to review their lessons in a very good way so that they can have a better understanding of the knowledge learned in class, which is helpful to them in their examinations. But every coin has two sides. It is hard to say whether taking a private tutor is good or not. It all depends on the individual. In my opinion, if you want to take on a private tutor, you should choose one carefully since he or she will have a great impact on your studies.6. Reading WidelyReading is to the mind just as food is to the body. However, what reading brings us varies from person to person according to our different ages and experiences. There is no doubt that reading widely can benefit us students in various ways. Firstly, it helps to broaden our view and provides a rich source of culture. By reading, we can learn about places we have never been to, and we can experience different customs and cultures. What’s more, reading enables us to understand the history of the past. The thoughts and experiences of famous writers are really valuable. Finally, we can learn more about ourselves through reading. It helps us to find our strengths and weaknesses so that we can build up self-confidence.To sum up, reading is an important part of life which can be viewed as a valuable source of happiness and self-discovery. Reading whatever you can and you will surely benefit from it.7. The Library and the InternetTen years ago, if you wanted to get some information, you would go straight to the library. This was very common at that time. But nowadays, you will surely ask the Internet for help. It is more convenient and effective than anything else. However, it doesn’t mean that the library is not necessary any longer. In my opinion, we should still keepthe library alive: library is still the main source of information for those people who can not afford to buy a computer, and the books in the library do less harm to people’s eyes while the radiation from computers are harmful. In the library, you are surrounded by an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. And it is not likely for you to get tired. So we should take the advantages of both the Internet and the library.8. The E-dictionaryAs science and technology develops at a high speed, more and more students tend to use e-dictionaries instead of paper-dictionaries.As a member of the e-dictionary users, let me tell you some of my reasons.First of all, I am a high school student. I always have piles of homework to do, so my time is very limited. Using e-dictionary saves a lot of time, all I need to do is to type in the word and the explanation of it will pop out in a blink of an eye. Looking up a paper-dictionary takes too long a time. Next, e-dictionary can show me how to use the word. It can give some examples of how to use it. It’s really good.Last but not least, an e-dictionary is much smaller and lighter than a paper-dictionary, which enables me to carry it anywhere I like. All in all, as long as a dictionary can assist me, I regard it a good one. And, I prefer the convenient one.9. Opportunity and SuccessOpportunities do not come often, only occasionally. When they come they often come quietly and go by without being noticed. Therefore, it is advisable (贤明的) that you should value and treat them with care. When an opportunity comes, it brings a promise but never realizes it on its own. If you mean to achieve something or intend to fulfill one of your ambitions, you must work hard, make great effort and be prepared. Otherwise, you will not take advantage of opportunities when they come. The difference between a man who succeeds and one who does not lies only in the way each treats opportunities. The successful person always makes much preparation to meet opportunities as they arrive. The unsuccessful person, on the other hand, works little and just waits to see them pass by.10. How to be successfulMost people want to be successful in the future, but how many of us can be really successful? When middle school students enter universities, they feel sure about their future success. However, when they graduate from the universities, what they have to face is sharp competition. Even those who are lucky enough to enter good companies or scientific research institutes have to begin with very ordinary jobs. It will be a long time before they are raised to important positions. There are many others who have to do whatever they can find. What they can do is to make a living first. In this way, their former dreams gradually become less and less colorful. They learn to be practical. Therefore only a few people can really be successful while the majority will have to live an ordinary life all the time.11. The Traffic in ShanghaiTraffic problem used to be a headache to people in Shanghai. Because during rush hours, we had to wait for half an hour or more before a bus came, and the buses were always very crowded. People often complained a lot about it.Now with the development of the communications in Shanghai, the situation has entirely changed. Eleven modern underground railways and eight magnificent bridges have been built. Passengers can take on the metro to anywhere of the city. Now it takes one much less time to go from one end of the city to another. To our joy, many new types of buses have been put into use, and most of them are air conditioned. On the other hand, many main roads have been widened: the Inner-Ring Line, the Outer-Ring Line and the viaducts have made Shanghai’s traffic more smooth and swift. I believe the traffic in Shanghai will be even more convenie nt in the future. And it won’t be long before Shanghai becomes a most developed, modernized city in the world east.12. My opinion on “Running red light”As we all know, the traffic in big cities is always very heavy. Almost all day long, there are a large number of vehicles running in the main streets, especially during the rush hours. In order to keep the traffic in good order, the government has passed some laws and the most important one of them is that anyone must stop when he or she sees red light. However, some people don’t think it necessary to do so. They think they are in a hurry or they have something important to do, they have formed the bad habit of crossing the street at will. (任意,随意) In my opinion, running red light will bring a lot of trouble to other people as well as to those silly troublemakers themselves. Plenty of accidents are caused because of people’s running red light. Some people should (竟然) be willing to run the risk of being killed rather than wait just a minute or two. What on the earth can be more important than one’s life? Y ou have your own life only once in the world.Remember! “Traffic rules are the friends of our lives.”13. The Importance of Health. It’s known to us all that nothing is more valuable and important than health. However, everyone once experienced or will experience a time when he is ill, no matter how strong he is.I think if one becomes sick, he or she must have an scientific and optimistic (乐观的) attitude towards the illness. First, the sick should follow doctors' advice. It is unwise to resist medical treatment. Second, the sick must learn some knowledge of science and use their own mind to fight against their disease. With the development of medicine, more and more modern methods and therapy are being applied to practice. Thousands of scientists are doing their best to discover new treatment for the worst diseases, such as AIDs and cancer. Third, the sick should live an active life. They might as well keep good hours and do something interesting they like to.Becoming ill is a common thing. If we can treat the situation lightly, it will have no much effect on us. On the contrary, we may learn a lot from it.14, Money and HealthToday I’m glad to share my views with you on which is more important, money or health.Money is considered by some people as the most important thing in life. They think if they have a lot of money, they can make themselves very comfortable by having a fine house to live in, beautiful clothes to wear and delicious food to eat. However, I stand on a very different ground. To human beings, health is probably the most precious thing and it cannot be bought with money. As water is to fish, so health is to a man. To a person who suffers from a deadly disease, while money can afford him the best hospital and medicine, but it can do little to save his life. Keeping healthy means a promising future. In a word, money can buy a lot of things, but it can’t buy everything. No matter how much wealth you have got, it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you are in poor health.15. Proper Sports ActivitiesSports benefit us in many ways. When we take part in sports, we get the chance to train almost all parts of our bodies. There is no doubt that proper sports activities can keep us healthy. Furthermore, sports can make our life richer and more colorful. Through participation, one can learn that in the sportsfield, he not only struggles for himself but also fights for his team. Sports teach us to be considerate and cooperative, and to be determined to overcome difficulties. But sports may do some harm to those who cannot do their sports properly. Too hard training may hurt their bodies, exhaust their vigor, and even cause them to become sick.In short, sports not only help us to live a well-balanced life, but also provide us with opportunities to get closer to nature. Sports can add happiness to our everyday life, but we should take sports in a proper way.16. Environmental ProtectionEnvironment means land, water, and atmosphere we live on. No one will doubt that we cannot survive if the natural environment is seriously polluted. But the severe problem we’re facing today is that the environment is indeed polluted. Air is getting dirtier by the waste gases. Water is polluted by harmful chemicals. Big cities are full of noise and dust. All these have threatened our existence. We must fight against the pollution and protect our environment. Laws must be tough to limit the excessive use of natural resources and massive discharge of waste. Otherwise, we human beings are in danger of killing ourselves. Why do we have so many natural disasters these years? The answer is that we haven’t taken good care of our environment. So, environmental protection is of crucial importance. Preserving environment is preserving not only our home but mankind itself as well.17. Clean Cars, Clean FuelsToo many cars have created a lot of serious problems in our world. Besides accidents and the use of fuel, cars are responsible for a great part of air pollution in big c ities. Cars are pumping huge amounts of waste gases into the atmosphere. These gases are very harmful, causing diseases and even death. Sometimes, car fumes formed heavy smog over the city, which causes trouble in several aspects. One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. Now some of the public buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off much carbon dioxide. But it may take years for the new models of clean cars to replace all the traditional ones.Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict the use of private cars. And the total number of cars in big cities should be reduced. We hope that the problem of air pollution will be solved with the development of science and technology.18. Protect the Historic SitesThere is no doubt that the historic sites should be well protected.Firstly, our motherland is a country with a long history of more than 5,000 years. We have a great many historic sites. They are the cultural heritage left by our ancestors. They are the fruits (结晶) of labor of the ancient working people. They have shown the rich culture and civilization of our country in the past 5,000 years.Secondly, as we all know, lost things will never come back again, that is to say, we will lose them forever. The destroy of the Winter Palace (圆明园) serves as the most typical example. Once we lose them, we will have nothing to pass on to our later generations.Thirdly, these places of interest attract millions of tourists from both home and abroad every year, which makes great contributions to the development of the economy of our country. So, we have all the more reasons to protect these priceless treasures but never have any slight idea to do a bit damage to them.19. Y our opinion about travelingPeople who like traveling have their reasons. They think that traveling can help them expand their scope of knowledge, especially geographical and historical learning. They go on to point out that touring will provide more chance for them to enjoy food and try on clothes that they can not possibly have. Those who dislike traveling have their reasons, too. They would argue that traveling means a considerable amount of money and energy. For example, traffic and accommodation require improving and seeing sights often tires you.In practice, traveling does more good than harm. If your finance and health permit, you might as well do some traveling from time to time. It will at least enable you to get familiar with people and things that you'll probably grow to like and love.20. How to be a lovely Shanghainese?Shanghai will host the World Expo in 2010. The world has granted Shanghai an opportunity and Shanghai will reward the world with more splendors. But how are we going to do a bit for the successful host of the Expo in 2010? To be a lovely Shanghainese is a must for us all.Firstly, as a good citizen, no matter where we are, we should obey the laws and observe the regulations.Secondly, every one of us should love our own job and try our best to do the job well.Thirdly, stick to the seven-don’t standards, be strict with ourselves and behave ourselves properly everywhere in society. Be polite to others especially to foreign friends and take pleasure in helping others.A harmony society depends on the combined efforts of the whole nation, and, the more lovely Shanghainese there are, the more beautiful our society will become.21. What should we do to be useful people of society? No one wants to accomplish nothing in life. Whoever he is and whatever dreams he has, the same thing is that he wants to be a useful person. Then what should we do?First, we should study hard and learning a lot of kn owledge is our firm basis. We can’t contribute to the society without knowledge. Second, we should care about the society and our country. We must be ready to devote ourselves to the society and adapt ourselves to the society. Last but not the least, we must strive for the new ideas from now on. The ability and quality that a man has always forms in one’s youth. I think it is not easy to achieve our ambition, but we can’t give it up as long as we still keep the idea of being a useful person.22. The Importance of Social-PracticeAs we all know, social-practice plays an important role in our daily life. Social-practice teaches us a lot of things. So I think we students need social-practice very much for we are lacking in experience. When we want to do something we never meet with, we are sure not to be familiar with it. In this case, we may have enough curiosity but no experience. Thus we will always be in failure. If we have learned rich experience through social-practice, we will surely do it perfectly. We can learn many new things and much knowledge as well. By taking part in social-practice, we can gain more. For instance, we may obtain courage, confidence, happiness and so on.Last but not least, social-practice is really very important to us. If we want to make progress and get a success, please take an active part in social-practice without delay.23. The Person I Love MostIn my life I love my friends, my teachers, and my parents. Who is the person I love most? I think myparents are the persons I love best, because they give me love – the most valuable thing in the world.Firstly, they supply me with more than the necessities such as food, drink and clothes. When my birthday comes, they say “Happy Birthday” to me. When I make progress in my studies, they encourage me and also tell me not to be proud.Secondly, they help me a lot with my studies and never get angry with me as long as I try my best. They introduce the mysterious world to me, and teach me how to be a man.Family is just like a big classroom with two adult teachers and a little pupil. Family is also like a house full of love and friendship. I hope every child will give his love in return for his parents’ love.24. HappinessWhat is happiness? There is no exact meaning of the word “happiness.”Happy people are happy for all sorts of reasons. The key is not wealth or physical wellbeing. Happiness is a kind of self-feeling. Children usually think it happy to eat something delicious or play with interesting toys, while parents consider it happy to see their sons and daughters succeed. For an inventor, a successful design more than anything else gives him the greatest happiness.Happiness always promises hope by which some people go on living. When one has suffered a great deal, it is often the feeling and enjoyment of happiness which will come soon that gives him the courage and confidence to strive again. So I think happiness is of great importance in everyone’s life.25. True FriendshipIt is known to all that everybody needs friends. We can not live alone in the world. But not everyone knows how to make real friends.Friends must trust each other. Friendship depends on honesty. Once your friends find out that you don’t tell truth or act honestly, you’ll lose their trust.Friends must understand and help each other. When you are in trouble, your friends can help you out. Then you’ll feel that “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”My ideal friend must be a person whose fine qualities are as follows: He has no bad habits. He lives a simple life. His interests and hobbies are the same as mine. A good friend will share my success, happiness or sorrows with me. A real friend can point out my mistakes frankly, thus I will overcome my shortcomings. However, friendship is many-sided. Let’s treasure it and live together like brothers and sisters.26. Competition and CooperationCompetition is a common phenomenon in society. Athletes compete in sports and games. Businessmen compete in trade. Nations compete in politics and economy. Competition is one of the most important elements in the progress of society.Cooperation is almost as essential as competition. Take football games for example, the football match is a fierce competition. But, to win the game, each player in the team must be cooperating with the others. In order to put forward a new theory or make a new discovery, researchers work day and night, competing against each other. However, in many scientific research projects, collective wisdom plays an important role, and without teamwork nothing can be accomplished. In a word, only when competition combines with cooperation will human beings solve their common problems and achieve their common goals.27. Do you like w earing school uniform? Many high schools, both public and private, require students to wear school uniforms. I think such apolicy is a good idea, because uniforms can make things more equal for all students.Firstly, with uniforms, students from poor families may wear the same clothes as those from rich families. It will encourage students to concentrate their time on study, and form friendship based on personality.Secondly, school uniforms can reduce unequal treatment by teachers. It is likely that some rich students may get more opportunities and challenges. Uniforms can also help teachers make judgments based on ability , not on appearance. Finally, uniforms can make every student feel like a part of the collective, being together, working together and having something in common. In short, all schools should require students wearing school uniforms. They will help give each student an equal chance. I really like wearing school uniform.28. A nationwide campaign against plastic bagsFrom June 1, 2008, a nationwide campaign against plastic bags has been issued. As is known to all, according to the new law, shops and supermarkets are forbidden to offer free plastic bags to customers. In other words, the plastic bags used to be free of charge will not be provided to the customers. Therefore, when shopping, the citizens may use cloth bags or baskets instead of plastic bags as we used to do.In my opinion, the problem of “White Pollution”caused by used plastic products is becoming increasingly serious, in which plastic bags played a major role. However, nowadays, more and more people have realized the importance of environmental protection.Hence, I’m sure that the ban of using plastic bags will be proved a substantial change for our country. It won’t be long before our homeland can usher in a brighter future.29. What do you think of the 24-hour store? The 24-hour store industry is increasing rapidly in Shanghai. Today, we can easily find a 24-hour store on the corner of the street or by a metro station. As we know, the type of 24-hour store came from South Korea, where people once found it too trouble for them to get what they wanted in the supermarkets. Then it came out the 24-hour stores. We can get anything we want in a tiny shop. It is so convenient for customers as the 24-hour store opens just near the residential quarters (居住小区) or the office buildings. Besides, it never closes during the year. Compared with supermarkets, since it is small, there aren’t many customers in it. We don’t need to stand in the queue waiting for our turn. We just go to the check-out directly and pay the money freely. So it is not surprising to see so many people go to the 24-hour stores despite a higher price. The 24-hour store really makes our lives more convenient and brings us a new life style of the city.30. Fast Food in ChinaFast food is becoming more popular in China, especially among children and teenagers. There are several reasons for its popularity. First, it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. The trend of modern society seems to the only goal – saving time, and fast food well serves this purpose. Y ou just go into a fast food restaurant, order your food, and your food is ready in no time. Y ou can either eat it there or take it away. Second, it is also due to the clean and comfortable environment of fast food restaurants, the excellent service, and the guaranteed quality of food.As for nutrition, fast food is far from satisfactory. It usually does not compose a balanced diet and is low in nutritional value. Thus, doctors suggest that people, especially children, eat as little fast food as possible. In a word, fast food is only a good choice when you are in a hurry and turn to it once in a while.-- the end --。

Part 1:Part One:Read aloud the following passage. You will have one minute to prepare and thirty seconds to read.British potato farmers were taking to the streets for the expression “couch potato” to be removed from the Oxford English Dictionary, for it harms the image of the vegetable. The British Potato Organization wants the Dictionary to replace the expression with the term “couch slouch”. Kathy Race, head of marketing at the Organization, said, “We are trying to get rid of the image that potatoes are bad for you. The potato has been criticized in the past.”The Dictionary says “couch potato”started as American, meaning “a person who spends a great deal of time watching television.”One U.S. company said on August 10 that it wants to send two tourists on a trip around the moon at a cost of $500 million per ticket. Space Adventures Company, which has already sent two citizens on separate trips into space, says it has researched and identified more than a thousand customers, who are interested, with the necessary wealth for a moon shot as early as 2008. The trip around the moon would last between 8 and 21 days, depending on whether the travelers make a stop at the International Space Station. To make an Olympic champion takes millions of young people around the world to be inspired to choose Olympic sport.I’m delighted we have with us today representatives of the next generation. We’re serious about inspiring young people. And thanks to London’s multi-cultural mix of 200 nations, they also represent the youth of the world. Their families have com from every continent. They practice every religion and every faith. What unites them in London, their love of sport and their heartfelt dream of bringing the Olympic Games to our city.Police are looking for robbers who stole valuable diamonds from the jewelry display at the City Center yesterday evening during the annual Gold Exhibition. The owner reported thata necklace estimated to be worth $1.5 million was taken by a young couple. A witness at thescene said that a couple in their early twenties caught her eye because they seemed too young to be interested in sun expensive jewelry. In her version of the story, the pair were dressed in clothing and hairstyles that seemed too casual for the rather formal atmosphere of the jewelry show.If you’re not sure whether you want to say yes or no, then say you’ll give an answer later, and refuse to discuss it further. This gives you time to decide and to prepare yourself to say no if necessary. Use body language to give your words more authority: stand up straight, straighten your shoulders and look at the person. If you’re talking on the phone, stand up – it makes you feel and therefore sound more confident. If a request is reasonable but you don’t want to do it, then offer an alternative, for example, “I don’t have time on Saturday, but I could do it one night next week.”People do get hurt in “adventure sports” and the most dangerous is climbing, which kills eight people a year. But it is not always obvious which activities are dangerous. For instance, two people die every year in hang-gliding accidents, but the same number are killed by badminton, whereas six people a year die in fishing accidents! So “exciting” isn’t always the same as “dangerous”. This is even more true when you consider the activities of everyday life. Many more people die due to accidents in the home than from sports of any kind.Part Two: Make quick responses to the sentences you hear:1.Could you tell me how to find some books on English grammar?2.What do you prefer, action movies or dramas?3.I can’t concentrate on my work these days.4.How long is the flight from Shanghai to Beijing?5.You’ve got a great ear for music.1.Hello, this is Mary speaking. Is Peter there?2.What do you usually have for breakfast?3.Make sure you lock the door when you leave.4.We will have a school excursion to Hangzhou soon.5.What if your mum knows that you told a lie?1.Thank you so much for your timely help.2.What you said yesterday really hurt me.3.Would you mind not talking so loudly in class?4.What do you like reading in your spare time?5.I failed the final examination and was scolded by my parents.1.Lucy, you look nice with that blouse today. It goes well with your skirt.2.What do you think of my new bicycle?3.Is there anything I can do for you?4.I don’t feel well. I want to go home.5.I think video games are really harmful for our middle-school students.1.It’s really hot today, isn’t it?2.What do you think of learning Japanese as a second language?3.Don’t forget to buy a hamburger for me.4.Look, what on earth are you doing? The classroom is so messy.5.I haven’t finished my homework, because I felt extremely tired last night.1.It’s nice of you to show me round your school.2.What about taking Bus 104 to the Shanghai Railway Station?3.I’m sorry. I have to leave now. I have to catch the last bus.4.How did you enjoy the concert last night?5.I wonder if I could use your mobile phone.Part Three: Ask two questions about each situation given below. At least one special question should be asked about each situation:(1-2) You and Your classmates are talking about a robbery which happened in a bank last night. Ask two questions about it.(3-4) Your English teacher is introducing a very good English programme, Studio Classroom, to you. Ask the teacher two questions about it.(1-2) Imagine the famous sportsman Liu Xiang has made a speech in your school. You ask him two questions.(3-4) You want to apply for a library card. You ask the librarian two questions.(1-2) Your friend Li Ming has just come back from the English summer Camp in Canada.
