厦门一中2024届高三年英语科期中考试卷英语试卷含答案解析

厦门一中2024届高三年英语科期中考试卷英语试卷一、阅读理解(共30 分)FIVE UNUSUAL SPORTSWhat sports are you into? Football? Tennis? Swimming? If you’re looking for a change, you might like to try one of these.OctopushOctopush (or underwater hockey as it’s also known) is a form of hockey that’s played in a swimming pool. Participants wear a mask and snorkel and try to move a puck (水球) across the bottom of a pool. The sport has become popular in countries such as the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. An ability to hold your breath for long periods of time is a definite plus.ZoobombingZoobombing involves riding a children’s bike down a steep hill. The sport originated in the US city of Portland in Oregon in 2002. Participants carry their bikes on the MAX Light Rail and go to the Washington Park station next to Oregon Zoo (which is why it’s called “zoobombing”). From there, they take a lift to the surface, and then ride the mini-bikes down the hills in the area.Office Chair RacingOffice Chair Racing consists of racing down a hill in office chairs that can reach speeds of up to30kph. Strict rules are in place for competitors: they’re allowed to fit in-line skate wheels and handles to their chairs, but no motors. “We check each chair carefully in advance,”one of the organizers explained. The participants race in pairs wearing protective padding as they launch themselves from a ramp (坡道). Prizes are given to the fastest competitors and also for the best-designed chairs.Fit 4 DrumsFit 4 Drums is a new form of cardio-rhythmic exercise. Led by an instructor, the class involves beating a specially-designed drum with two sticks while dancing at the same time. It’s the first group fitness activity where you get to play a drum while getting an intense workout. A sense of rhythm is a definite advantage!Horse BoardingHorse Boarding involves being towed behind a horse at 35mph on an off-road skateboard. Professional stuntman Daniel Fowler Prime invented the sport after he strung a rope between his off-road “mountain board” and a horse. Participants stand on a board while holding onto a rope, attemptingto maintain their balance as the horse gallops (疾驰) ahead. “The horse rider and the horse have to work together because if they don’t, the horse goes flying,”Daniel explained. So, which sport would you like to try?1. What do you need to do if you want to play Octopush?A.Swim on the surface of the water.B.Hold your breath before the sport.C.Play it by the side of the seashore.D.Wear underwater breathing devices.2.

AMany years ago, when I was in high school I lost my wallet. My old car required to be fueled. I had prepaid and then put my wallet on the bumper(保险杠), and drove off. I started to believe that I’d have to live the rest of my life with this dark cloud. Until one day, I fell upon an article that talked about how dogs were able to help people with their mental health. So I decided to get a dog. When I brought Buddy home, I didn’t realize how much he would change my life. I woke up one morning and felt those familiar feelings again: the weight on my shoulders and the feelings of hopelessness. I knew that the anxiety and depression had come back hard. I didn’t want to get outof bed. That’s when I came face to face with Buddy.Buddy started jumping over me, kissing my face. It was as if he was saying, “It’s no time to be sad. The world is rather frightening!” And for the first time in my life, o n a day when my anxiety and depression was present full force, I got out of bed. I put on my coat and went for a walk in the snow with my new best friend. 第I 卷(选择题)一、阅读理解A couple from Miami, Bill and Simone Butler, spent sixtysix days in a life raft (救生艇)in the seas of Central America after their boat sank.Twentyone days after they left Panama in their boat, in Simony, they met some whales (鲸).“ They started to hit t he side of the boat,” said Bill,“ and then suddenly we heard water. ” Two minutes later, the boat was sinking. They jumped into the life raft and watched the boat go under the water. For twenty days they had tins of food, biscuits, and bottles of water. They also had a fishing line and a machine to make salt water into drinking water —two things which saved their lives. They caught eight to ten fish a day and ate them raw(生的).Then the line broke. “So we had no more fish until something very strange happened. Some sharks(鲨鱼) came to feed, and the fish under the raft were afraid and came to the surface. I caught them with my hands.”About twenty ships passed them, but no one saw them. After fifty days at sea their life raft was beginning to break up. Then suddenly it was all over. A fishing boat saw them and picked them up. They couldn’t stand up. So the captain carried them onto his boat and took them to Costa Rica. Their two months at sea was over.1.Bill and Simone were traveling _______ when they met some whales. A .in a lakeB .in a riverC .in a seaD .in a desert2.After their boat sank, the couple _______.A .jumped into the seaB .heard waterC .watched the boat sail awayD .stayed in the life raft3.When the fishing boat picked them up, _______ . A .they stood up as quickly as possible B .they climbed onto the boat easilyC .their life raft was in good conditionD .their two months at sea was overOne afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view of the wonderful works.A young couple viewing the paintings ahead of me chatted nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided she was doing all the talking. I admired his patience for tolerating her constant words. Disturbed by their noise, I moved on.I encountered them several times as I moved through the various rooms of art. Each time I heard her constant talking, I moved away quickly.I was standing at the counter of the museum gift store doing some shopping when the couple approached the exit. Before they left, the man reached into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He turned it into a long cane (手杖) and then tapped his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.“He’s a brave man,” the clerk at the counter said, “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery, he made a promise that his life wouldn’t change. So, as before, he and his wife e in whenever there’s a new art show.”“But what does he get out of the art?” I asked, “He can’t see.”“Can’t see! You’re wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do,” the clerk said, “His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head.”I learned something about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without sight and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away arm in arm. 4.Which of the following statements is true?A .The husband was doing all the talking when the couple viewed the works.B .The husband tapped his way to the coatroom to get his own jacket.C .The husband was considered a brave man by the clerk at the store.D .The husband allowed blindness to change his life.此卷只装订不密封班级 姓名 准考证号 考场号 座位号5.The underlined word “encountered” in the passage means “________”.A.cheated B.metC.talked D.argued6.We can infer from the passage that ___________.A.the man had his eyes blinded in a fightB.the man can see very well while visiting the museumC.the woman was very patient and devoted to his husbandD.the man often wasted time by visiting exhibitionsMy teenage son Karl became withdrawn after his father died. When his report card arrived during his junior year, it said that he had been absent 95 times from classes and had six falling grades for the year. At this rate he would never graduate. I sent him to the school adviser, and I even begged him. Nothing worked. One night I felt so powerless that I got down on my knees and begged for help. “Please God, I can’t do any thing more for my son. I’m at the end of my rope. I’m giving the whole thing up to you.”I was at work when I got a phone call. A man introduced himself as the headmaster. “I want to talk to you about Karl’s absences.” Before he could say another word, I cried and all my disappointment and sadness over Karl came pouring out into the ears of this stranger. “I love my son but I just don’t know what to do. I’ve tried everything to get Karl to go back to school and nothing has worked. It’s out of nay hands. ”For a moment there was silence on the other end of the line. The headmaster seriously said, “Thank you for your tim e”, and hung up.Karl’s next report card showed a marked improvement in his grades. Finally, he even made the honor roll. In his fourth year, I attended a parentteacher meeting with Karl. I noticed that his teachers were astonished at the way he had turned himself around. On our way home, he said, “Mum, remember that call from the headmaster last year?” I nodded. “That was me. family.34.(8分)On a number of drives throughout my childhood,my mother would suddenly pull over the car to examine a flower by the side of the road or rescue a beetle from tragedy while I,in my late teens and early twenties, sat impatiently in the car.Though Mother's Day follows the Earth Day,for me,they have always been related to each other. My mum has been "green" since she became concerned about the environment.Part of this habit was born of thrift(节俭).Like her mother and her grandmother before her,mum saves glass jars, empty cheese containers and reuses her plastic bags.Mum creates a kind of harmonious relationship with wildlife in her yard. She knows to pick the apples on her trees a little early to avoid the bears and that if she leaves the bird feeders out at night,it is likely that they will be knocked down by a family of raccoons(浣熊).Spiders that make their way into the house and are caught in juice glasses will be set loose in the garden.I try to teach my children that looking out for the environment starts with being aware ofthe environment. On busy streets,we look for dandelions(蒲公英)to fly in the wind;we say hello to neighborhood cats and pick up plastic cups and paper bags. This teaching comes easily,I realize, because I was taught so well by example.Mum didn't need to lecture;she didn't need to beat a drum to change the world. She simply slowed down enough to enjoy living in it and with that joy came mercy and an instinct for protection.I am slowing down and it isn't because of the weight of my nearly forty years on theplanet. It is out of my concern for the planet itself.I've begun to save glass jars and reuse packing envelops.I pause in my daily tasks to watch the squirrels race each other in the trees above my house.Last summer,in the company of my son and daughter,I planted tomatoes in my yard. With the heat of August around me,I ate the first while sitting on my low wall with dirt on my hands.Warm from the sun,it burst on my tongue with a sweetness.I immediately wanted to share with my mum.(1)Why does the author say the Earth Day is connected with Mother's Day?A.Because Mother's Day always falls shortly after the Earth Day.B.To stress that all the women in her family are environmentalists.C.To stress how much her mother cares about the environment.D.Because her mother shows her concern to nature on Mother's Day.(2)Which of the following in NOT related to Mum's "green life"?A.Rescuing a beetle from a certain tragedy.B.Saving glass jars, empty cheese containers.C.Setting a caught spider free in the garden.D.Picking dandelions on busy streets.(3)We can infer from the article that .A.the author realizes that she should teach her children by example as wellB.the author's mother knows how to get rid of the wildlife in her yardC.the author believes that only by learning to slow down can we enjoy lifeD.the author's mother used to lecture her to protect the environment(4)What can be learned from the last paragraph?A.Tomatoes make the author think of her mother.B.The author likes eating tomatoes planted by herself.C.Planting tomatoes is a way of protecting environment.D.The author really appreciates her mother's teaching.35.(6分)Can you believe everything that you read?It seems as if every day, some new articles come out about a new discovery about this or that. For example, water is bad for you,or good for you.The answer depends on which scientific study has just come out.People cannot decide which food items are healthy, how pyramids were constructed, and why dinosaurs disappeared. When we look for answers we sometimes can believe persuasive researches and scientists. But how trustworthy are they really? Here are two examples of scientific hoaxes (骗局).As far back as 1726,Johann Beringer was fooled by his fellow scientists into thinking hehad made an amazing discovery. The fossils of spiders, lizards, and even birds with the name of God written on them in Hebrew were unlike anything that had been found before. He wrote several papers on them and was famous for those only to have it revealed that they were planted by jealous colleagues to ruin his reputation. When an early human being was discovered in 1912,scientists at this time were wild with excitement over the meaning it had for the theory of evolution. There were hundreds of papers about this Piltdown man over the next fifty years until it was finally discovered to be a complexhoax. The skull (头骨)of a man had been mixed with the jawbone of an orangutan (猩猩)to make the ape (猿)man. The next time you read the exciting new findings of a study of the best scientist,do not automatically assume that it is true.Even qualified people can get it wrong.Though we certainly should not ignore scientific research,we do need to take it with a grain of salt.Just because it is accepted as the truth today does not mean it will still be trustworthy tomorrow.(1)What is the reason why Johann Beringer was fooled?A.His fellow scientists wanted to make fun of him.B.His workmates are eager to become famous too.C.These scientists made a mistake because of carelessness.D.His colleagues was jealous of him and did so to destroy his fame.(2)The excited scientists thought that this Piltdown man.A.was in fact a complex hoaxB.was a great scientific inventionC.contributed to the theory of evolutionD.had the skull like that of an ape(3)What can we learn from the passage?A.Hebrew is probably a kind of language.B.Truths of science will never be out of time.C.People believe scientists because they are persuasive.D.We are advised to believe famous scientists.V. 根据所给的首字母和中文写出所缺单词的完整形式(每空1 分,满分10 分)36.(1分)The present educational s(体系)in our country really needs to be changed.37.(1分)Miss Li is r(尊敬)by all the students in our class for her Looming even larger, however, was another doctor, one whose medical practice was so slow it allowed him plenty of time to pursue his literary ambition. His name: Arthur Conan Doyle. As the creator of these fictional icons, Conan Doyle has himself become the object of countless critical studies, biographies and fan clubs.Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh in 1859, into a respectable middle-class Catholic family. Still, it was far from an easy life. There was never enough money; they moved frequently in search of lower rents; and his father, a civil servant and illustrator was an alcoholic who had to be institutionalized. Y et the early letters he wrote to his mother are surprisingly optimistic, concerned mainly with food, clothes, allowances and schoolwork. At 14 came his first unforgettable visit to London, including Madame Tussaud’s, where he was "delighted with the room of Horrors, and the images of the murderers."A superb student, Conan Doyle went on to medical school, where he was attracted by Dr. Joseph Bell, a professor with an incredible ability to diagnose patients even before they opened their mouths. For a time he worked as Bell’s outpatient clerk and would watch, amazed, at how the location of a callus (老茧) could reveal a man’s profession, or how a quick look at a skin rash told Bell that the patient had once rived in Bermuda. I n 1886, Conan Doyle outlined his first novel, A Study in Scarlet, which he described as "a simple tale of mystery to make a little extra money." Its main character, initially called Sherringford Hope and later called Sherlock Holmes, was based largely onB ell. But Holmes’ first appearance went almost unnoticed, and the struggling doctor devoted nearly all of his spare time to writing long historical novels in the style of Sir Walter Scott―novels that he was convinced would make his reputation. It wasn’t to be. In 1888, Holmes reappeared in A Scandal in Bohemia, a short story in Strand Magazine. And this time, its hero took an immediate hit and Conan Doyle’s life would never be the same.56. The typical features of Sherlock Holmes were all EXCEPT ____.A. rationalB. sociableC. intelligentD. tricky57. Which of the following is NOT true about Conan Doyle and his family?A. In a book on immunology and cancer(C)Stratford-on-A von, as we all know, has only one industry—William Shakespeare—but there are two distinctly separate and increasingly hostile branches. There is the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), which presents superb productions of the plays at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre on the A von. And there are the townsfolk who largely live on the tourists who come, not to see the plays, but to look at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Shakespeare’s birthplace and other sights. The honorable residents of Stratford doubt that the theatre adds a penny to their revenue. They frankly dislike the RSC’s actors, them with their long hair and beards and sandals and noisiness. It’s all deliciously ironic when you consider that Shakespeare, who earns their living, was himself an actor (with a beard) and did his share of noise-making.The tourist streams are not entirely separate. The sightseers who come by bus and often take in Warwick Castle and Blenheim Palace on the side don’t usually see the plays, and some of them are even surprised to find a theatre in Stratford. However, the playgoers do manage a little sight-seeing along with their play going. It is the playgoers, the RSC claims, who bring in much of the town’s revenue because the y spend the night cash into the hotels and restaurants. The sightseers can take in everything and get out of town by nightfall. The townsfolk don’t see it this way and local council does not contribute directly to the subsidy of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Stratford cries poor traditionally. Nevertheless every hotel in town seems to be adding a new wing or cocktail lounge. Hilton is building its own hotel there, which you may be sure will be decorated with Hamlet Hamburger Bars, the Lear Lounge, the Banquo Banqueting Room, and so forth, and will be very expensive.Anyway, the townsfolk can’t understand why the Royal Shakespeare Company needs a subsidy. (The theatre has broken attendance records for three years in a row. Last year its 1,431 seats were 94 per cent occupied all year long and this year they’ll do better.) The reason, of course, is that costs have rocketed and ticket prices have stayed low.It would be a shame to raise prices too much because it would drive away the young people who are S tratford’s most attractive clientele. They come entirely for the plays, not the sights. They all seem to look alike (though they come from all over)―lean, pointed, dedicated faces, wearing jeans and sandals, eating their buns and bedding down for the night on the flagstones outside the theatre to buy the 20 seats and 80 standing-room tickets held for the sleepers and sold to them when the box office opens at 10:30 a.m.63. From the first two paragraphs, we learn that ____.A. the townsfolk deny the RSC’s contribution to the town’s revenueB. the actors of the RSC imitate Shakespeare on and off stageC. the two branches of the RSC are not on good termsD. the townsfolk earn little from tourism64. By saying“Stratford cries poor traditionally”(the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4),the author implies that_______.A. Stratford cannot afford the expansion projectsB. Stratford has long been in financial difficultiesC. the town is not really short of moneyD. the townsfolk used to be poorly paid65. According to the townsfolk, the RSC deserves no subsidy because _______.A. ticket prices can be raised to cover the spendingB. the company is financially ill-managedC. the behavior of the actors is not socially acceptableD. the theatre attendance is on the rise66. From the text we can conclude that the author ______.A. is supportive of both sidesB. favors the townsfolk’s viewC. takes a detached attitudeD. is sympathetic to the RSCSection CDirections:Complete the following passage by using the sentences given below. Use your own words as far as possible.Job Discrimination against Women in ChinaNowadays, more and more women have walked out of kitchen and become career women instead of housewives. With the increase in the employment ratio of women in society, some subtle forms of job discrimination do exist. To begin with, quite a lot of companies intentionally control the number of female employees when they advertise for staff in the newspaper. Therefore, it is rather difficult for women, even with a master degree, to get well-paid jobs. Some enterprises definitely refuse female applicants, either to avoid their maternity leaves stipulated(规定)by our government when they give birth to a child, or becau se of the employers’ prejudice against women. Some bosses think women are inferior to men in professional skill and spirit of enterprise. Some companies do employ women staff, but inequality is always there like an increasable spot. Even when men and women are in the same position doing the same job, it is no easy task for a woman to be promoted or get equal pay. The employers take the biased attitude toward female employees, and usually think that a man is more capable than a woman. Sometimes they fire a woman without any good reason. In china, there is a saying“Women hold half of the sky”. But women are not given enough respect they deserve in their career. Since men and women are together playing the same important role in our whole society, our government, as well as the society, should take efficient measures to provide the same job opportunities to women. And the women themselves should enhance their work ethic and awareness of self-reliance and self-protection. In this way, more and more women can be motivated to work well at their favourite job and promoted to their desirable positions. Only in this way, can our society be called an equal, open and just one for everyone.Ⅴ. Carnival celebrations are believed to have roots in the festival of Saturnalia, which, adapted to Christianity, became a farewell to bad things in a season of religious discipline to regret and prepare for Christ’s death and coming back to life.Modern Brazilian Carnival dates back to Rio de Janeiro in 1641. It originally copied the European form of the festival, later taking in elements of Native American and African cultures. In the late 19th century, the strings (弦乐器) were introduced in Rio de Janeiro. These were pageant (游行) groups that paraded through city streets performing on instruments and dancing. Today they are known as blocks, consisting of a group of people who dress in costumes or special T-shirts with themes or logos. Blocks are generally connected with particular neighborhoods; they include both a music group and a lot of revelers (狂欢者).Block parades have become an expressive feature of Rio’s Carnival. Today, they number more than 100 and the groups increase each year. Blocks can be formed by small or large groups of revelers with a clear title. Before the show, they gather in a square, then parade in sections of the city, often near the beach.Carnival time in Rio is very interesting, but is also the most expensive time to visit Rio. Hotel rooms and other lodgings (住宿) can be up to four times more expensive than the regular rates. There are big crowds at some locations and life is far from ordinary in many parts of town.21.What can we infer from the first paragraph?A.The Carnival of Brazil is often held after Easter.B. The Carnival of Brazil is a festival to regret and begin a new life.C. The Carnival of Brazil comes from Easter and Saturnalia.D.The Carnival of Brazil is mainly to celebrate the birth of Christ.22.How long is the history of the people’s celebrati ng modern Brazilian Carnival?A.About 100 years.B.Less than two centuries.C.About 370 years.D.Over five centuries.23.Which of the following statements is TRUE about the blocks in Rio de Janeiro?A.They don't parade before the show.B.They always parade through countryside villages singing and dancing.C.There are no more than 50 blocks today.D.They are always wearing costumes or special T-shirts with themes or logos. 24.What is the passage mainly about?A.The carnival in Rio de Janeiro.B.How the carnival was introduced in Brazil.C.The famous carnivals in the world.D.The happy life of the people in Rio de Janeiro.BFootball, to me, is more than just a game. I have probably learned more valuable lessons from it than from school. When I joined the team freshman year, I didn’t realize what I was getting into. Even though I had been playing since fourth grade and knew it was hard work, nothing would prepare me for the effort I would put into football that year. We worked all summer in the weight room and ran on the track to get in physical and mental shape before the season.See, football is more of a mental sport than anything else, so running on the track wasn’t only about getting in shape. We would push our minds by running as hard as we could even if we were going to pass out. At the beginning, I was immature(幼稚的)and only thought of myself, sometimes even gave up when I was tired or hurt. Then after the third game I had a season-ending injury. Imagine working all summer and then only being able to play three games! I needed surgery on my arm and at least five months to recover.Needless to say, I missed the rest of the season, but this actually helped me realize that since you never know when your last play will be, you should try your hardest in football and life. After freshman year I decided that I would always give my best effort. Playing varsity(大学的)football has taught me so much more than just what my assignments are on a particular play or how to block. I have learned to think about others first, and realized how important working hard is. Being with all my friends, even sweating and bleeding with them, really made us bond as a group of hard-working young men who I know will succeed in life.25. What is the main idea of the passage?A. How the author dislikes the game of football.B. When the author began to play football.C. How the author has changed his attitude to football.D. What sport the author likes best.26. In the third paragraph, the underlined phrase “getting in shape” probably means“”.A.measuring the trackB. designing the playgroundC. losing weightD. becoming healthy27. From the text we can infer.A. the author joined the football team with a clear aimB. football only brought the author certain assignmentsC. the author worked all summer to get ready for the seasonD. the author never lost heart when he met with difficulty28. What did the author get from his season-ending injury?A. A good chance on the team.B. A good lesson about life.C. A good relationship with his partners.D. A good rest as he expected.CIf you are human, you can’t help but experience times when everything seems to be going wrong and you feel as if your life is completely out of control. It is during those “down times” that words of en couragement from family, friends, co-workers or even strangers can lighten your spirits. It is also during those times that destructive words can sink you deeper and deeper into depression(沮丧).For example, consider this story about a group of frogs who were traveling through the woods when two of them fell into a deep pit(坑). All of the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two unfortunate frogs they would never get out.The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump out of the pit. The other frogs kept telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs acted according to what the other frogs were saying and simply gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the pain. The more they shouted, the harder he jumped and finally he made it to safety. When he got out, the other frogs asked him why he continued to jump when they were all shouting at him to simply quit. The frog explained to them that he was a little bit deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.Every time you have a chance to say either something positive or negative to another human being, do choose the chance to say somethi ng positive! Don’t let those opportunities get away from you. Your words have a large amount of power. Use them wisely. You really never know just how much they can mean to someone else.29. The first paragraph tells us that words play an important part especially when _______.A. we stay with our family, friends and co-workersB. we hear strangers say something to usC. we get through hard times in life.D. we make some big mistakes.30. The more they shouted, the harder he jumped and finally he made it to safety. That’s because_________.A. he struggled to prove that they were wrongB. he was angry with what they saidC. he thought they were encouraging himD. he didn’t want to let them down.31. After reading the passage, readers should learn a lesson that _________.A.we can use encouraging words to help others outB. having a positive attitude is important in lifeC. never give up until we winD. we must believe in ourselves rather than othersDPeople do not like being separated from their mobile phones, even while enjoying a restful holiday at the beach. However, the phone battery(电池)may become exhausted completely. If that happens, they have no choice but to connect the phone to the power supply. But it’s impossible to get the battery charged (充电) at the beach. What’s worse, the hot sun is shining right overhead, and the water in the bottle is sure to reach a very high temperature.Antoine Sayah, a university student from Lebanon, developed a special bench mat(垫) called the Beachill. It looks similar to the ordinary beach mat and will cause back pain as well. However, the device (装置) can recharge any mobile phone. It is designed to be water-resistant (防水的) and has a 5-watt solar panel, which provides power continuously. The mat also has the refrigeration equipment that can help keep drinks cool, just like the refrigerator.Antoine Sayah began selling the Beachill on the Internet for$150. He says he has been surprised at the reaction worldwide. “I have got orders for the device from Brazil, Toronto, all over Europe, especially France, America, from all continents.” The Beachill is also gaining popularity in other places, like swimming pools and boats. Some people like the mat because it is lightweight and easy-to-carry. Rita Mathieu bought one of the Beachills. “When I am on the beach, I used to look around for a charger and never managed to find any and the water never stays cool,” she says, “so this kind of beach mat is wonderful and has everything in it, even a pocket where I can put a book. Thanks to it, I can surf the Internet and keep in touch with friends at any time at the beach.”32. The first paragraph is mainly intended to .A. show great pity for people at the beachB. provide some key facts about mobile phonesC. prove the importance of water in hot weatherD. attract the readers’ interest in the subject33. What can we learn about the Beachill?A. It has some function of the refrigerator.B. It will stop working in the water.C. It is quite unusual in appearance.D. It can only be used at the beach.34. Rita Mathieu is mentioned to prove the Beachill's .A. convenienceB. popularityC. good qualityD. low price35.
