The problem of listening to BBC News in English can be challenging for many non-native English speakers. The speed at which the news is delivered, the accents of the presenters, and the complex vocabulary used can make it difficult for listeners to comprehend and understand the content. This can lead to frustration and a sense of being left out of important global events and discussions. One perspective on this issue is the need for improved language proficiency. Many non-native English speakers may struggle with listening to BBC News because of theirlimited English language skills. This can be particularly challenging when it comes to understanding fast-paced news reports and interviews, as well as the use of idiomatic expressions and regional accents. As a result, there is a need for language learners to focus on improving their listening skills through regular practice, exposure to different accents, and the use of resources such as language learning apps and online courses.Another perspective is the importance of exposure and immersion. Listening to BBC News in English can be daunting for non-native speakers who are not regularly exposed to the language in their daily lives. Lack of exposure to English in real-life situations can make it difficult to understand the nuances of the language as used in news reporting. Therefore, it is important for language learners to seek out opportunities for immersion, such as watching English-language films and TV shows, listening to English-language podcasts and music, and engaging in conversations with native English speakers.Furthermore, the issue of confidence and motivation plays a significant role in the challenge of listening to BBC News in English. Non-native English speakers may feel discouraged and demotivated when they struggle to understand the news, leading to a lack of confidence in their language abilities. This can create a barrier to further language learning and improvement. It is important for language learners to build their confidence by setting achievable goals, celebrating small victories, and seekingsupport from language exchange partners or tutors. In addition, the use of technology and resources can greatly impact the ability to listen to BBC News in English. There are various tools and resources available to helpnon-native English speakers improve their listening skills, such as language learning apps, online courses, and language exchange platforms. These resources can provide valuable support in developing listening comprehension, vocabulary, and understanding of different accents. Moreover, the use of subtitles and transcripts can also aid in the comprehension of news content, allowing learners to follow along with the spoken words and identify unfamiliar vocabulary.Lastly, the cultural and global awareness aspect of listening to BBC News in English cannot be overlooked. Understanding the news in English not only improves language skills but also provides valuable insights into global events, politics, and culture. For non-nativeEnglish speakers, keeping up with international news in English can broaden their understanding of the world andhelp them engage in global conversations. Therefore, the ability to listen to BBC News in English is not only a language learning challenge but also an opportunity to expand one's knowledge and perspective on global issues. In conclusion, the challenge of listening to BBC Newsin English for non-native speakers is multifaceted, encompassing language proficiency, exposure, confidence, resources, and cultural awareness. By addressing these various perspectives, language learners can work towards improving their listening skills and gaining a deeper understanding of global events and discussions. It is important to recognize the complexity of this challenge and to approach it with determination, perseverance, and a willingness to learn and grow.。

Can you resist the pleading eyes of a cat keen on the piece of ham you're just about to eat? I can't, and this is bad news for my cat Freddy. He is getting very fat.More than 18 million of the UK's pets could have a premature death because of their diet, the vet charity PDSA warns. Owners like me, wanting to please their animals by giving them fast food, crisps and cakes end up doing them more harm than good.Like people, animals can suffer from obesity-related conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and heart disease. Breathing difficulties made Phillip Howse take his mother's fat cat Jesse to the PDSA clinic in South London. He said the animal sounded "as if snoring when awake".According to Howse, his elderly mother is too soft with her pet, which keeps meowing in the kitchen till it gets its treats. He tells his mother she "has to be cruel to be kind" if she wants to keep the cat for a long time. But there's hope for poor Jesse. Last year, the charity chose 16 obese pets to try its six-month diet and fitness regime. In total, the pets lost a combined weight of 57kg. The slimming champion was a dog, Ruby. It went from 9.1kg to a healthier 6.2kg.The way we treat our animals may be a reflection of the way we treat ourselves. According to the PDSA's Elaine Pendlebury, studies have suggested that overweight owners are twice as likely to feed their pets table scraps. And they end up with overweight animals.Regular exercise is good for humans and pets. The charity's website suggests that dog owners run and play games like'fetch' with their pets, but advises against throwing sticks as these might end up hurting the dog's mouth.Cat owners should set time aside to play with their pets regularly and encourage them to 'work' for their meals, by using toys that release food when pushed around. My own cat Freddy's diet and exercise plan starts on Monday and so does mine. Because it's not really the pet who opens the tin of biscuits. Both of us have to learn how to feel like "the cat that got the cream" - without really getting any cream.
To say the least.
Yes, well, basically, I guess the, you know, what it does allow me, my professional career, is show them a model of consistency.
The farm`s owner says the "moo-vable" mattress helps the cows produce higher quality milk. Might make their sleepover standards a little high --
Because once they`ve slept on a waterbed, there`s no way they`re going to be happy crashing on the "cowch." You may think the idea of a mattress helping milk production is just "udderly" ridiculous, but it turns that farm into a cozy bed and breakfast.
I just want to know, in your words, what`s the most important thing about an education?
I think the most important thing about a education is you, the person, have to take advantage of it. And education, to me, is the one role that you can go down in life and become anything that you want, because what is a business career, a sports career and whatever you do, education is going to be on that road to success.
That`s the reality.
Yes, that`s the reality of what it is. And I don`t really look at education as a backup plan. And that`s another thing that I tell kids. Hey, sports needs to be your backup plan. Education is part of your number one.
While he was tackling quarterbacks on the field, Brooks was also tackling education off of it. I had a chance to talk with him not too long ago about the charter school he helped found in the Tampa, Florida, area, and his life`s mission to educate students.
That`s great stuff. You check out more of my conversation with Derrick Brooks in the "Spotlight" section on our home page.
Now, before we go, we`re heading to an Ohio farm.
And when it comes to the education that you encourage among students, I mean, you played at every single game with Tampa Bay. You started 221 times out of 224 games. Does that help you encourage perfect attendance?
What was harder to do, to co-found the charter school or to win the Super Bowl?
I always think each one has its challenges, and I would definitely say starting a charter school is by far, I would say, harder.
What would you tell those students? How do you encourage them to have a backup plan?
I tell those students that they have a better chance of becoming a doctor and winning the lottery than.
Derrick Brooks doesn`t just have a great throwing arm. He was a linebacker on that Tampa Bay title team, won a championship in college, too, when he played at Florida State.
Although based on how relaxed these cows look. it might be more like a spa. You may think these lounging ladies are just being lazy, but it`s hard to blame them for laying around all day, when they`re laying on this -- it`s a bovine waterbed.
There are a lot of different ways that athletes and celebrities choose to give back. What made you want to co-found a charter school?
The nugget for me that drew me more than anything was the opportunity to affect more than the 35 to 50 kids that were part of Derrick Brooks Charities, that we can expand that audience, and I`ll have the opportunity to be in one building, four years building a relationship with our students and really having the opportunity to produce the next best citizens I can.
You knew we were going to milk story for all we "cud." But it`s time for us to hoof it on out of here. We hope you have a great weekend. For CNN Student News, I`m Carl Azuz.
Sure.
