Knowing how things work, putting it all together, and getting the toy to act like the real thing mean being a bit of an engineer. Even the best inventor needs a lot of help. Her team probably includes a designer to work on how the toy will look; some programmers to put in memory, moods, and personality; and somebody else to figure out what it will cost. She might even need to work with a puppeteer (拉线木偶表演者) to make the movements look natural.

高中英语 Unit 2 The Olympic Games(一)2高一2英语试题

感顿市安乐阳光实验学校课时跟踪检测(一)Warming Up & Reading — Pre-reading阅读理解ACompetition in the Olympics should be between athletes who use their own strength or speed. If some athletes don't follow the rules, it ruins the fun for everyone connected with the game. It also gives an extremely unfair advantage to athletes using drugs. So I think athletes should be tested for drugs.—Jim from AtlantaDrug use among top athletes has long been a problem. Without drug tests, the Olympics would be about who uses the most drugs, not who trains the hardest and has the most athletic skills. Also drugs do harm to people's health and sometimes even kill people.—David from HoustonWhy should athletes be allowed to compete when it's not really they who are actually competing? It's the drugs that do all the work. Athletes_who_use_drugs_are_like_runners_with _roller_skates. It's cheating and irresponsible, which must be strictly forbidden. It's unfair to other competitors who don't use drugs.—Bruce from ChicagoMost sports athletes are held to a standard of being drugfree. Olympians should not be held any differently. They take part in highly competitive sports and win medals for their country. Testing the athletes for drugs must be done in every country and every sport. No drug test would be unfair to athletes who don't use drugs.—Sam from Los AngelesAlthough popular opinion is against athletes' using drugs, I believe drugs do help make the Olympic sports more wonderful. I enjoy seeing human beings achieving things that couldn't be done with normal conditioning.I enjoy seeing stronger, faster and longer performances by making good use of drugs. I don't see the necessity of drug tests.—Jack from New York语篇解读:本文主要介绍了几种关于奥运会选手是否应该接受兴奋剂检测的观点。

2 Which number is concerned with the Olympic Games?FiveWhat do the five rings stand for?The five interlocking rings stand for friendship of five continents.3 talk about 2008 Beijing Olympic mascot 这部分做得很好4 the Olympic motto and 2008 Beijing Olympic motto5 talk about the events of the Olymic games6 How much do you know about the Olympic Games? Test your knowledge with this quiz in warming up7 Fast reading (Tor F)8Careful reading9 Tell the difference between ancient and modern Olympics according to the reading passage and fill in the blank,让学生上黑板来完成,这部分做得很好。

The vehicle-named the Transition–has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up so it can be driven like a car. TheTransition, which flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes last month, can reach around 70 miles per hour on the road and 115 in the air. It flies using a 23-gallon tank of gas and bums 5 gallons per hour in the air. On the ground, it gets 35 miles per gallon.Around 100 people have already put down a $10,000 deposit to get a Transition when they go on sale, and those numbers will likely rise after Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public later this week at the New York Auto Show. But don’t expect it to show up in too many driveways. It’s expected to cost $279,000.And it won’t help if you’re stuck in traffic. The car needs a runway.Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s, according to Robert Mann, an airline industry expert. But Mann thinks Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the flying car a reality. The govemment has already permitted the company to use special materials to make it easier for the vehicle to fly. The Transition is now going through crash tests to make sure it meets federal safety standards.Mann said Terrafugia was helped by the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision five years ago to create a separate set of standards for light sport aircraft, which are lower than those for pilots of larger planes Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition, a requirement pilots would find redatively easy to meet.1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?A.The basic data of the Transition.B.The advantages of flying cars.C.The potential market for flying cars.D.The designers of the Transition.2.Why is the Transition unlikely to show up in too many driveways?A.It causes traffic jams.B.It is difficult to operate.C.It is very expensive.D.It bums too much fuel.3.What is the government’s attitude to the development of the flying car?A.CautiousB.Favorable.C.Ambiguous.D.Disapproving.4.What is the best title for the text?A.Flying Car at Auto ShowB.The Transition’s Fist FlightC.Pilots’Dream Coming TrueD.Flying Car Closer to Reality四、七选五How to Care for a Pet FishTaking care of a pet is a big responsibility, so you should make sure you learn all about your pet before bringing it home. ①______ That' s because fish can give them a good idea of whether or not they'll be able to take care of a more complicated(复杂的) pet later on.First, choose what types of fish. ②______ They are easier to raise and give you enough experience to take care of fish and their tanks(水箱). 2017-2018学年高中英语(人教版 )教师用书:Unit 2 Section_Ⅰ Warming Up - Reading — Pre-reading

Section_ⅠWarming Up & Reading — Prereading 1.Everybody has to eat, but do you eat a healthy diet in your daily life?2.What should we eat according to the following passage?Sometimes people are curious to know what type of food is healthy and what kind of food may hurt our health. The United States' Department of Agriculture has prepared a small book to help people learn about which types of food are the healthiest to eat. The book describes six basic food groups: meat, dairy (things made from milk), grains, fruits, and vegetables. The last group is fat, oil, and sweets. As a result of years of research, we know that too much fat is bad for our health. For example, Americans eat a lot of meat and only a small amount of grains, fruits, and vegetables. Because of this, they often get cancer and heart disease. In Japan, on the other hand, people eat large amounts of grains and very little meat. They also have a very low rate (比率) of cancer and heart disease. In fact, the Japanese live longer than people in any other country. Unfortunately, when Japanese people move to the United States, the rate of heart disease and cancer increases as their diet changes. What's more, as hamburgers and other highfat foods become common in Japan, the rate of heartdisease and cancer is increasing there as well. People are also eating more meat and dairy products in other countries such as Cuba and Hungary. It's no surprise that the disease rate in these countries is increasing along with the change in diet. Therefore, doctors everywhere advise people to eat more grains, fruits, and vegetables, and eat less meat and dairy products.Warming Up1.Discuss the picture in pairs, and answer the following questions.①Are they healthy?They_are_both_unhealthy._The_short_person_is_too_fat_while_the_taller_is_to o_thin._②What should they do with the problem?I_think_they_need_have_a_healthy_and_balanced_diet_and_do_enough_physical_e xercise.③What is a healthy diet?A_healthy_diet_is_a_diet_that_is_balanced_and_neither_too_rich_in_fat,_suga r_and_salt_nor_too_poor_and_lacking_in_essential_nutrients.2.Look at the following pictures.Do you know that the food you eat helps you grow in different ways?(1)They are energygiving_food,_which provide energy.(2)They are bodybuilding_food,_which help grow bones and muscles.(3)They are protective_food,_which help the body fight diseases.Fast ReadingScan the passage and then choose the best answers according to the passage.1.When Wang Peng thought “Nothing could be better”, he means ________.A.his food and drink were the bestB.his food and drink were the worstC.his food should have been improvedD.he could do nothing with his food and drink2.Why did Wang Peng go into the newlyopened restaurant?A.Because he was angry.B.Because he was curious.C.Because he wanted to blame its owner.D.Because he wanted to ask for advice.3.Wang Peng was amazed when he saw the menu of Yong Hui's restaurant because ________.A.there were only raw vegetables and water served in Yong Hui's restaurantB.there were more choices of food and drink served in Yong Hui's restaurantC.the food and drink in Yong Hui's restaurant were more expensive than those in his restaurantD.Yong Hui's menu gave customers more energygiving food4.Wang Peng suggested that they provide a combined menu because ________.A.he liked Yong HuiB.he didn't want to lose his customersC.he thought his menu was betterD.this would provide a balanced diet5.What can we learn from Wang Peng's research in the library?A.Wang Peng's restaurant offered a balanced diet.B.Yong Hui's restaurant offered a balanced diet.C.Both of the restaurants offered a balanced diet.D.Neither of the two restaurants offered a healthy diet.答案:1~5 ABCDDCareful Reading1.Read the passage and then answer the following questions.(1)How did Wang Peng feel at the restaurant? Section_ⅠWarming Up & Reading — Prereading 1.What are the advantages and disadvantages of cloning?2.Not only animals but also plants can be cloned. Do you know the difference between them? Please read the following passage to get the answer.A new study of plants that are reproduced by cloning has shown why cloned plants are not identical.Scientists have known for some time that cloned organisms are not always identical: their observable characteristics and traits can vary, and this variation can be passed on to the next generation. This is despite the fact that they are derived (获得) from genetically identical founder cells. Now, a team from Oxford University, the UK, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia, believe they have found out why this is the case in plants: the genomes (染色体) of regenerate plants carry relatively high frequencies of new DNA sequence mutations (变异) that were not present in the genome of the donor plant. The team reported their findings in this week’s Current Biology.“Where these new mutations actually come from is still a mystery,” said Professor Harberd. “They may arise during the regeneration process itself or during the cell divisions in the donor plant that gave rise to the root cells from which the regenerate plants are created. We are planning further research to find out which of these two processes is responsible for these mutations. What we can sayis that nature has safely been employing what you might call a ’cloning’process in plants for millions of years, and that there must be good evolutionary reasons why these mutations are introduced.”The new results suggest that variation in clones of plants may have different underlying causes from those of variation in clones of animals — where it is believed that the effect of environmental factors on how animal genes are expressed is more important and no similar high frequencies of mutations have been observed.Professor Harberd said, “While our results highlight that cloned plants and animals are very different, they may give us insights into how bacterial and cancer cells replicate themselves, and how mutations arise during these processes which, ultimately, have an impact on human health.”Warming Up1.How much do are natural clone and manmade clone?Clone_is_a_way_of_making_an_exact_copy_of_another_animal_or_plant.Natural_clone_is_one_that_occurs_from_the_“parent”_in_a_natural_form_of_ cloning_without_human_help.Manmade_clone_is_one_produced_through_human_intervention_(介入).2.Look at these pictures and tell which ones are natural clones and which ones are manmade clones.Natural_clones:AF;Manmade_clones:BCDE3.See another kind of clone. Establishing a human colony on the Moon and travelling to Mars has been the stuff of dreams since the dawn of the space age.But these visions face many hurdles (障碍). How can humans survive for months or years in the ultra-hostile (极端恶劣的) environment of space? What, for instance, will they eat?Agricultural researchers at a Dutch university say they are taking the first steps towards providing an answer. They are growing vegetables in soils similar to those found on the Moon and Mars, looking for ways of helping space pioneers grow their own crops. “When people go to the Moon and Mars they also have to eat, and it's easiest for them to grow their own food,”said Wieger Wamelink, surrounded by several dozen plants in a special greenhouse at Wageningen, an agricultural university in central Netherlands.“We wanted to use real Martian and lunar soil, to see if plants would actually grow in it,” Wamelink told reporters.Of course, getting real lunar and Martian potting soil is an impossible task. But an Internet search revealed an unlikely supplier: NASA.“The US space agency makes ground similar to that on the Moon from sand found in an Arizona desert, while Mars'crimson ‘soil’is scooped (舀;掏) from a volcano in Hawaii,” Wamelink told reporters. The first experiments started in 2013 after Wageningen received an order of 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of NASA's imitation “space soil” — at a hefty price of 2,000 euros ($2,285).“To work in this soil was very special. Nobody, not even NASA, could tell us what would happen, even just by simply adding water,” he said. The imitation ground at first was a little “reluctant” (勉强的) to absorb water, but soon turned out to be good potting soil.“Especially in the Martian soil, plants were growing very fast and very good. They even started to flower, something that we never anticipated (预料,预见),” Wamelink said.Section_ⅠWarming Up & Reading — Pre-reading[原文呈现]A PIONEER①FOR ALL PEOPLEAlthough he is one of China's most famous scientists, Yuan Longping considers himself a farmer, for he works the land② to do his research. Yuan Longping grows what is called super⑦hybrid⑧rice⑨. In 1973, he became the first agricultural pioneer in the world to grow rice⑩ that has a high output⑪. This special strain⑫of rice makes it possible to produce 20% more of the crop⑬in the same fields⑭. Now more than 60% of the rice produced in China⑮each year is from this hybrid strain.Born in 1930, Yuan Longping graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953. Since then, finding ways to grow more rice⑯has been his life goal. As a young man, he saw the great need for increasing the rice output. At that time, hunger⑰was a disturbing⑱problem in many parts of the countryside. Yuan Longping searched for a way to increase rice harvests without expanding⑲the area of the fields. In 1950, Chinese farmers could produce about fifty-six million tons of rice. In a recent harvest, however, nearly two hundred million tons of rice was produced.
