Body language is a very powerful tool of communication, not only between people but in the animal world as well.
In many instances( 在许多情况下), we produce idioms which are all understandable by borrowing examples from animal communication.
For example, we know that a frightened cat will arch (拱起) its back high in rigid curve (拱形). From this starting-point we might hear the expression, “He gets my back up!” meaning “He makes me angry.”
In the same manner, we know that many animals, if challenged by attackers(袭击者), will not turn and run away because this will encourage the attacker to attack them more forcefully. Instead, they will move backwards
slowly to get out of harm's way, always still facing their attacker. We call this action “backing off” and it can be used just as well with humans as with animals.
In the case of humans, however, the back-off may not be physical but oral, as in using a kinder tone of voice and gentler words instead of fighting against the attackers.
54. When a cat arches its back high in a rigid curve, it shows that it is ________.
A. defeated
B. pleased
C. frightened
D. angry

C. Both humans and animals have ways of running away from danger.

Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sadness, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day we learn to deal with different kinds of situations.
Love plays a main role in our life. Love makes you feel wanted. Without love a person could become cruel. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with love and care. They teach us about what is right and wrong, good an d bad. But we don’t always care about it. It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands others’ feelings.
Happiness can bring people a peaceful mind. No mind is happy without peace. Sadness is the cause of the death of a loved one or the failure. But all of these things will pass away.
Failure is the path to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive(幸存) and shows us a specific way. Success brings in money, pride and self-respect.
Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope builds in patience. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day.
Life teaches us not to regret( 后悔) over yesterday, for it has passed and is out of our control. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dark. So the only choice is to work hard today, so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.

How do you imagine the future? Will life in the future be better, worse or the same as now? What do you think of the future?
People think that life will probably be very different in 2050. First of all, planes will be very small, so flying will be very cheap. Everyone will have a small car. Fuel(燃料) will be new and clean but expensive. We will see robots
everywhere. And space planes will take us around the world in two hours. Houses will be warm in winter and cool in summer, so they will be very comfortable. We’ll use the sunshine to heat our houses. Computers will be very small, so they’ll be very light. People will do many things on the Internet.
At that time, water will become one of our most serious problems. In many places, farmers will be in great need of water to grow fruit and vegetables.
By 2050, we will be able to help blind people see again or deaf people hear again. At that time, our life will become。

(10分)
Why are so many people so afraid to fail? Quite simply because no one tells us how to face the failure(失败). In fact, failure can become experience that means growth. We forget that failure is part of the human condition and that every person has the right to fail.
Most parents work hard to prevent failure or protect their children. One way is to lower standards. Nearly 60% of the parents choose this way. When a chi ld finishes making a table, the mother describes it as “perfect” even though it doesn’t stand still. The other way is to blame (责怪) others. If John fails in science, his teacher is unfair or stupid. There’s a problem with the two ways. It makes a child unprepared for the real life if they don’t meet enough failure. The young need to learn that no one can be best at everything, no one can win all the time. The young should be allowed to experience failure.
Failure never gives people pleasure. It hurts both grown-ups and children. But it can be really good to your life when you learn to use it.
Please answer the following questions with no more than 6 words.
1. What can failure become in fact? _______________________________________________
2. How many ways do most parents choose to prevent failure and protect their children? ______
