单元加餐练Ⅰ.阅读理解The idea of cloning your pet sounds like a laughable waste of money, because it is. But it starts to seem a little less laughable when your own beloved pet starts getting older. If I had had a few hundred thousand dollars to spare, I know I would have halfseriously considered it for my dear little cat, who died last year. One couple that does happen to have a few hundred thousand dollars to spare is Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, who have reportedly cloned their beloved Jack Russell Terrier (a kind of dog), Shannon, and now have two identical Jack Russell Terriers, named Deena and Evita. When your pet dies, you just want your pet back, or at leastas close a copy as you can get. So it's really no surprise thatof the around 600 dogs cloned by Sooam Biotech ResearchFoundation most were cloned for sad pet owners. The lab inSeoul, South Korea, is now the only place on the planet in the business of cloning pet dogs for owners. But, in fact, the technology won't give you your pet back. There don't yet appear to be any studies on the behavior of cloned pets, but research on cloned cows and pigs has so far shown marked differences in behavior and even looks in cloned animals. The DNA is exactly the same, but there are still differences in personality and appearance.Even if Diller and von Furstenburg raise their new dogs in the exact same environment in the exact same way that they raised Shannon, the new dogs will still behave differently. “The promise of pet cloning is that your cloned p et is going to behave and look like the one you already have — and that will not be the case (情况),” said Professor Jorge Piedrahita at N.C. 【2013·潍坊5月模拟】When you tidy your messy bedroom,it gets a lot easier to find things.Dreams may work the same way for a messy brain, helping you learn by organizing memories and ideas. To test how much dreams can help learning,Robert Stickgold had some students play a shapefitting game called Tetris (俄罗斯方块) for a few hours and then go to sleep.Soon they were dreaming of falling Tetris shapes.Interestingly, the worst Tetris players had the most Tetris dreams and improved their game the most.Similar tests have shown the same results for all kinds of skills. As we dream, many important tasks are getting done. The brain decides what to keep and what to forget. It is connecting new experiences to older learning. In fact, the brain is learning all night long.Another important task of dreams may be to help us deal with emotions (情绪).At night, emotions are in the driver’s seat.People who have had an upsetting experience often dream about it afterward.Often the dream event changes somehow—another way the brain tries to make the memory less upset. So if your best friend moves away, you might dream that you’re the one who’s moving. In fact, dreams have a proven power to improve mood, and people who dream about what’s bothering them usually feel better sooner than those who don’t.Everybody dreams for a couple of hours every night—in the course of your life, you’ll spend about 25 years asleep and 6 years dreaming. There’s probably no single answer to the question why we dream, but there doesn’t have to be.One dream might help you remember your math facts, while another might lead to a new invention,or give you a fun, crazy story to tell your friends. It’s all in a night’s work for our busy, mysterious brains.1.Robert Stickgold’s test shows that________.A.games are useful for memoryB.dreams can help improve skillsC.players stop learning in dreamsD.tasks can only be settled through dreams2.We can learn from Paragraph 4 that________.A.dreams can get rid of sufferingsB.only drivers can deal with emotionsC.one may be less upset after a dreamD.dreams can copy what one experienced3.Which of the following does the author probably agree with?A.Dreaming does harm to one’s mood.B.Dreaming affects the quality of sleep.C.It’s hard to find out the secrets of dreaming.D.It’s not so important to know the cause of dreaming.4.What does the text focus on?A.Dreams and memories. B.Dreams and emotions.C.The benefits of dreams. D.The patterns of dreams.5.In which part of a magazine can this text be found?A.Entertainment. B.Tourism.C.Science. D.Advertisement.语篇解读本文是一篇说明文。

Ⅱ.阅读理解Keeping kids motivated at the end of the year is not so easy, especially after tests are over. In fact, the more we prepare kids for tests, the harder it is to keep them on task after testing ends. Yet keeping kids motivated at this time ofyear is actually much easier than you might think. Here are some helpful ways to turn students’endoftheyear energy into success.1.Class scrapbooks (剪贴簿)Creating a class scrapbook is a good way for students to focus on the school year. Let each student design his or her own special page. The front of the page can include their name, a photo, and other personal skills. Have each student write you a letter about the school year and stick it to the back of his or her page.2.Read aloudThere never seems to be enough time to read aloud during the school year, so it’s wonderful to have more freedom to do so after tests are over. Instead of reading just 10 minutes a day, I enjoy spending 30 minutes or sharing more great books with my kids. I recently asked teachers to share their favorite books for the last month of school, and over 50 people agreed.3.Class newslettersLet the whole class take part in this meaningful writing activity, and everyone will end up with a valuable record of your school year. Consider all the special events that have happened in the year, and then ask each student to write about one of the events. Select a few students to put all of the stories into one newspaper. Add photos and pictures about the school year, awards and something like that. To save paper, produce the newsletter in a digital f orm and email it to parents. Be sure to print one or two copies for students to share in the classroom.语篇解读:本文是一篇应用文,主要讲述了老师在学期末能够成功激发学生的积极性的有效策略。
