学会运用图表理解生活小文江口县怒溪中学严秀明自从《图表在农村中学阅读教学中的应用与研究》这一课题开展以来,我们一直在运用图表教学。

同学们按照我们的思路与方法,课前预习时,在参考资料的辅助下,也能八九不离十地完成文章的理解与分析,所以课堂上能较好地完成教学任务。

但是,同学们是不是真正具备了较高的阅读理解能力,尚没有得到检验。

也就是说,同学们面对课外的文章,在没有任何资料的辅助下,是否也能出色地完成?心里总想着对他们进行一次必要的检验,似乎才坦然。

一天早上,我在教室门口候课,吴博阳对我说:“严老师,你的文章写得好呢!”我说:“你怎么知道?”他说:“在报纸上看到的。

”最近几年事务繁杂,搁笔不写了,我不知道他说的是哪一篇文章。

我和他聊了几句,才知道他说的是2008年的旧报纸上《桃源夜话—平常人生》一文。

当我问他好在什么地方时,心中突然一激灵,何不把它作为检验学生阅读理解能力的一次机会呢?说干就干,于是我果断地停掉当天的新课《邹忌讽齐王纳谏》。

课堂上,我稍做铺垫,在U盘中找到这篇文章。

当时,学生简直是兴奋异常,于是我乘机要求:“同学们请读熟我这篇小文,用图表的形式把你理解到的东西画在纸上,二十分钟后,我看谁做得最好”。

原文出示如下:桃源夜话---平常人生严秀明(一)、贫富心态我们在中学课本中读到《守财奴》这篇课文,人人都知道葛朗台的吝啬近乎愚昧,他仓库中的东西都变成了灰;在我们现实生活中,常听某某被判死刑,腐化堕落、享乐主义泛滥等等现象不胜枚举。

这两者虽表现形式迥异,但本质均为物欲所困。

家有金山银山而不利用等于垃圾,不择手段满足私欲则为祸患。

两者都已沦为金钱的奴隶,这乃为心灵的赤贫。

有谁不喜欢富裕呢?这是人人都希望的。

人应该用正当的努力来实现心中的理想,主观为自己的同时客观上为社会贡献,这才是德才之人。

政治清明个人贫穷给社会增添了负担是羞愧,政治昏暗个人奢侈造成社会贫困,阻碍社会发展,更是耻辱。

这才是一个合理的贫富观。

在描写图表时切忌反复使用同一句型,只单纯记录数据而不进行趋势描写或对照与对比。

2.2.3图表作文图表作文分为看图作文和看表作文两类。

由于看图作文在四级考试中不常见,因此本书不作介绍。

写作方法:首先要熟悉图表的各种类型,了解他们的特点和作用。

Pie chart 使用来表示各种事物在总数百分之一百中所占的比例。

(共时)Line Graph ,这种曲线图用来表示一种事物的上升和下降趋势(历时)。

Bar Chart 一般用来比较集中事物在同一时期上升或下降的情况。

Table 这种表格使用与表示多种事物间的相互关系。

其次,读懂图表中数字变化所体现的深层含义。

要善于从众多的数字中抓住主要问题。

给你的图表和数字并不是要求你进行简单的描写,而是要求你通过图表上的数字抓住所反映的社会问题进行评论。

从数字中看出主要问题的方法有两个:一是借助题目和指示里的要求来抓住主要问题。

二是看一下图表中的哪些数字的前后变化最大。

最后,在表达的时候,对数字的运用要有针对性,不要把图表中的数字全描写出来。

把所有的数字都写出来,往往会导致重点不分,主题不清。

它通常的模式为1. 对图表的描述2.对图表的概括3.对图表所做的结论或分析及原因。

注意事项:1. 审阅图表要心细眼明,凡印在考卷上的可能都有用,不可遗漏任何一个有用信息。

2. 对图表描述后的概括、发现或议论要注意符合图表本意,不可妄切断语,仅凭主观。

3. 文章最后得出的结论要合乎情理。

这种结论可以是归纳,也可以是对未来的预测。

What are the axes showing – years, amounts, percentages? What are the highest and lowest points on the graph? Are there any particularly interesting or surprising pieces of data that stand out? For example, if it's a line graph, are there any really steep rises or falls over a short period of time?Identifying two or three key points, trends or surprising facts will give you something to focus your essay on.After you've had a good look at the details of the chart, it's time to start planning your essay. My brother's teacher says the essay should have an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion – just like any other essay. The introduction should briefly explain what the chart shows, without going into too much detail yet. Bring all those key ideas together to finish with a strong concluding paragraph.I've also picked up some other good tips from watching my brother that could help you too:• Use clear topic sentences at the start of each paragraph to show what it will be about.• Include data references like "According to the chart..." or "The graph illustrates that..." when quoting specific numbers.• Try to vary your language instead of just saying "the graph shows..." each time. You could say "as is evident from...", "it is clear that...", "the data demonstrates..."• Make sure you understand the timescale and units used on the axes too. Don't get confused between years, decades, thousands, millions etc.• Leave yourself enough time to check your work and correct any small mistakes at the end.Writing an essay based on data from graphs and charts is a bit different than normal essays. But if you plan it out properly and analyze the key points, trends and interesting facts closely, Ithink you can do a great job! Just make sure you allow enough time to look over the chart carefully before you start writing. The aim of this report is to describe a company’s sales to South Asia over a one-year period.
Findings
According to the graph, sales to South Asia shows an upward trend from 7 million dollars in January to 10 million dollars in May. After this, sales dropped down (decreased,fell, slumped,declined) dramatically, hitting the lowest point in June at 6 million dollars. There was then a slight increase(rise) in July. The bar chart shows Australian company profits in four sectors before tax. Their profits increased in general from 1990 to 1993,with a slight decline in 1994. Manufacturing occupied the most important part, where profits nearly doubled from 1990 to 1993 to peak at nearly 8,600 million dollars. Mining, in contrast, rose to 5,000 million in 1993-1994 after a gradual decline in the previous three periods. Profits in retail trade also kept on growing, while profits in other industries dropped sharply to no more than 400 million dollars in 1993-1994 following the steady previous increase.

The two graphs compare the effect of two biocides: GE and HI. Without the treatment, the purity degrees of the polluted water drop to less than 20% after five months.
In contrast, the effect of the HI biocide treatment is unsatisfactory. Although the HI biocide appears to be very effective in the first two months, its effect declined steadily. It can even add more pollutant to the water at last.
