Directions:You're allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will by commenting on the humorous saying, "Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I've done it hundreds of time." You'd write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.
Outlines:
As we have read from above, quitting-smoking seems easy, but in reality it is rarely achieved. Although there are thousands of ways to success, in my opinion, a strong will is the important guarantee of success, just as a proverb says, “Where there is a will there is a way”.
The long history of human being has proved that only those who have a strong will can fulfill great mission and achieve success at last. Nothing succeeds without a strong will. Take Mao Zedong, one of the great founders of the People’s Republic of China, as an example. If without the strong will to save Chinese people from heavy disaster and build a prosperous, democratic and civilized new country, how could he drive Japanese out of China and become such a famous leader in the world?
The same is true for students who want to be successful in the future. Studying hard to get more knowledge and improve our ability to handle complicated problems as possible is the only way to lay the solid foundation of future success.
As can be seen from the picture, the son is talking to his father about his concern about the nuclear waste, while his father told him that if he can empty the dustbin first, he can do anything.
Funny and common as the conversation sounds, it reflects that the father intends to advise his son to do small things before undertaking the big. Unquestionably, doing small things is the first step of success and will lay root for doing something big. By doing something small, we are enabled to accumulate experience, master skills and train ourselves to be more patient. By contrast, those who set out to do something big will be constantly haunted by disappointment, frustrations or even failures. As when opportunity “something big” appears, they can hardly seize them because of the lack of experience and confidence stems from doing small things.
From my perspective, under no circumstances should we undervalue the power of doing small things. Instead, we should regard small things as the source of experience, skills and the prerequisite of success.
3.
The above bar chart clearly shows us the unemployment rate in 2010. We see that unemployment rate of those with higher education background is much lower than those with lower education degree. For instance, the unemployment rate of college students with no degree is as high as 14.9% while that of those with doctoral degree is only 1.9%.
The following reason, in my opinion, is the most important one to account for this phenomenon. Compared with those with comparatively lower education degree, people who have received higher education possess considerably wider knowledge, more remarkable learning and research ability, greater innovation and resourceful social network, all of which make them more qualified and competent for their task. Thus, they are less likely to lose their jobs.
This phenomenon tells us that education is a worthy investment. Therefore, education investment should be strengthened while we, as college students, should study harder to avoid unemployment.

Extravagant Spending on College Campus
According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind. They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into the society. This extravagant spending is primarily caused by the following factors.
First of all, nowadays most of the students are the only child in the family. They are the apple in their famil y’s eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. In addition, with the improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditure of their children. Moreover, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tends to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.
From my point of view, a college student, as a pure consumer, should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our future development.

Nowadays, going abroad for studies is enjoying a striking (显著的)popularity among adolescents. Importance should be attached to(非常重要) studying abroad.
There are a great many advantages of studying overseas. First and foremost(首先), living and studying abroad offers students a different perspective of the world(一种不同的世界观). On a university campus, international students are likely to encounter(遭遇) their counterparts(相对的) from various countries and areas (地区) and are exposed to(面临着)diverse ideas and values. What is more, overseas experience is the best opportunity for the real-life(现实生活中) use of foreign languages. There is no better opportunity to improve second-language skills than living in the country in which it is spoken.
Generally speaking,it is my view that although going abroad is expensive and perhaps (可能) painful, the payoff is worthwhile(付出是值得的). In the first place (首先), in addition to(除了……以外)knowledge, overseas students can gain precious experiences(获得宝贵的经验)that those who stay at home will never have. Furthermore(此外), overseas experience, frustrating(令人沮丧) and painful as it may be, is conducive to the growth of adolescents(有利于青少年的成长).
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Online Games. You should write at least 120 words, and base your composition on the outline below:
1)现在有些大学生沉迷于网络游戏,家长和学校对此忧心忡忡,
2)但有人认为网络游戏并非一无是处,
3)你的看法。
As a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. A great many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, some students lacking self-discipline are too much indulged in these games so that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents.
However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train the ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science. More importantly, it does bring college students much pleasure and release their pressure greatly.
From my point of view, online games can be wonderful entertainment if you play them in a reasonable way. However, when they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once. Yet if you have enough self-control over them, you can certainly obtain real pleasure and benefit from them.
Nowadays it is a very common phenomenon that some university students are late for or even absent from classes. And still there are some students who slip out of the classroom before the class is over(早退). Class attendance has become a thorny (棘手的;麻烦的)problem to both the students and teachers.
In fact, it is very important for the students to attend their classes regularly. First, it will ensure that you catch up with the teachers in your learning. That is very helpful to you if you want to do a good job in your study. Second, attending classes regularly is a way of showing respect to your teachers, too. Your teachers will feel bad if the students do not attend their classes, which, in turn, will affect their teaching and be no good for the students. Third, attending classes regularly will help to form a good habit of punctuality(准时), which is of great importance for the students to do a good job in the future.
Therefore, we university students should form the good habit of attending our classes regularly from now on. And some day we’ll benefit from it.
Directions: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Jobs for Graduates. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline below:
1、大学生难找工作,
2、原因很多,
3、解决的办法。
Job hunting has always been a headache for college students. Though many graduates are employed right after graduation, some are not. Most serious of all(更严重的是), some still have no idea where to go working even a long time after graduation.
The reasons for this phenomenon are various. On the one hand, a few years ago colleges and universities enrolled(入学) so many students in popular majors, such as economy, finance and so on that the number of graduates was greater than(大于) the need in the market. On the other hand, most graduates would rather stay in large cities without suitable job to do than go to the country.
I reckon(估计)this problem can be solved if both colleges and students take measures.First, they should research the market and develop special skills to suit its need. Second, students’ attitude towards employment should be changed. They should go to small cities and country. There they can also give full play(充分发挥)to their professional knowledge. In a word, if we pay much attention(重视), the situation(情况) can be improved.

In my life I have met a great many teachers who are really worth recalling. But perhaps the most unforgettable one I ever know is my English teacher.
What frequently bring back memories of my school teacher are his special qualities. First of all, he gave us the greatest gift a teacher can offer—an awakening of a passion for learning. He not only led us to an appreciation of the beauty and perfection of English language and literature, but also aroused our great interest in exploring something deeper in this field. Second, I was attracted by his lively wit. I remember that we students always anticipated his class with great eagerness because his lecture were humorously delivered, never failing to provoke chuckles or loud laughs.
Although it is nearly two years since I attended his last class, he is the talk of our old classmates, and I know part of him has already stayed in my heart.
