Book 3-Unit 12 Return to Menu
In 1980 there were very few nature reserves in British cities. Today, there are over 300. London alone has more than 30. These reserves are special wild areas for plants, birds and animals. One of the biggest is called Street Park, just one kilometer from a busy railway station. About a decade ago, it was an empty, dirty plot of land and nothing lived there. Today, it's a healthy habitat for thousands of wild animals and plants. Volunteers visit the park to plant Script trees, build fences, watch and study the animals and birds. Today, people live peacefully side by side with wildlife, and this is good news not just for Londoners, but for the environment, too.
