They looked at men from traditional families, men with children from a previous relationship, men whose partners had children by a former partner and men who were not living with their partners. All 7, 108 participants filled out a questionnaire on depression, and answered questions about their age, education level and employment status. Details about the quality of their relationships with their partners, networks of friends and previous life events were also recorded.About 3.5 percent of the men and 13 percent of their partners suffered depression around the time their child was born. While men in stepfamilies or who were not living with their partners were twice as likely to get depressed as those in traditional families, this could be explained by other factors that are more common in nontraditional families, such as poor education and relationship conflicts.Even allowing for all these factors however, the partners of women who were suffering from prenatal (围产期的) depression were significantly more likely to become depressed themselves, the researchers report in an American journal. Ten percent of women who were depressed had depressed partners. For the healthy women, the figure was only 2.6 percent.Previous research suggests that families with two depressed parents may need special attention. A researcher in Atlanta has found that primary school children with two troubled parents have difficulty relating to their peers. “It’s extremely important to look at the whole family.” She says.39. What can we conclude from the first two paragraphs of this passage?A. Men often beat their children.B. Depressed women often have depressed partners.C. All young children are vulnerable to social problems.D. Women with children often have depressed partners.40. Why did researchers in London and Bristol carry out such an investigation?A. To see what kind of family environment is ideal for children to grow up in.B. To study whether family structure affects depression in men when their child is born.C. To investigate why so many men get depressed when a child is born.D. To see whether it is true that behind every depressed man there is a depressed woman.41. What kind of men are least likely to get depressed when their child was born?A. Men in stepfamilies.B. Men who were not living with their partners.C. Men in traditional families.D. Men in nontraditional families.42. According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?A. Ten percent of women who were depressed had depressed partners.B. 2.6 percent of healthy women were depressed.C. Special attention should be paid to families in which both the father and the mother were depressed.D. Primary school children whose parents were both depressed couldn’t get along well with their peers. BWeddings in the United States vary as much as the people do. There are church weddings with a great deal of fanfare; there are weddings on mountain-tops with guests barefooted; and there have been weddings on the ocean floor with oxygen tanks for the guests. But many weddings, no matter where or how they are performed, include certain traditional customs. Before a couple is married, they become engaged. And then invitations are sent to those who live nearby, their close friends and their relatives who live far away. When everything is ready, then comes the most exciting moment. The wedding itself usually lasts between 20 and 40 minutes. The wedding party enters the church while the wedding march is played. The bride carrying a bouquet enters last with her father who will “give her away”. The groom enters the church from a side door. When the wedding party is gathered by the altar, the bridge and groom exchange vows. It is traditional to use the words “To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part”. Following the vows, the couple exchange rings. Wearing the wedding ring on the fourth finger of the left hand is an old custom. After the ceremony there is often a party, called a “reception” which gives the wedding guests an opportunity to congratulate the newlyweds. The car in which the couple leaves the church is decorated with balloons, streamers and shaving cream. The words “Just Married” are painted on the trunk or back window. The bride and groom run to the car under a shower of rice thrown by the wedding guests. When the couple drives away from the church, friends often chase them in cars, honking and drawing attention to them. And then the couple go on their honeymoon.43. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?A. There are usually three kinds of weddings in America: weddings in churches, weddings on mountains and weddings under water.B. People usually get engaged before they get married according to their parents’ preference.C. People can choose any form of wedding and decide where and how they will be performed in America.D. Most weddings in America now doesn’t follow the traditional customs.44. People usually invite _________ to their weddings.A. those who stay in close relationship with themB. anyone who lives quite near to their houseC. only families and relativesD. all of the above45. The phrase “give her away” in the second paragraph most probably means _________.A. giving her as a gift to the groomB. releasing the bride’s secret to the groomC. showing the groom who the bridge really isD. leading the bride to the groom and formally allow her to marry him46. The friends often chase the couple in cars because _________.A. they would like to have a race with the coupleB. they would like to congratulate the coupleC. they would like to attract the attention of the coupleD. they would like to go to the reception with the coupleCROCHESTER HILLS, Michigan ---- A little more than 10 years ago, Tricia Mack was a student as Rochester Adams High School who dreamed of becoming an astronaut.Today, Ms Mack is a 27-year-old aerospace engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and is traveling to Russia to work on an international space station. Later, she’ll teach astronauts how to do certain thing sin their suits.“ We have a huge pool that the astronauts are placed in. They wear weights so it feels like neutral gravity (无重力)where they’re not sinking and they’re not floating to the surface,” she said. “Underwater, astronauts have a stand-in for the conditions in outer space.”Ms. Mack will continue this role as she begins work on an international space station project. More than 40 through 2,004 will be taken to the space station. Those include trips by the American shuttles and the Russian Soyuz rockets, which hold three persons.“While Russians have left astronauts on space stations for as long as one year, American crews are not expected to be on the space station longer than 180 days at a time.” Ms Mack explained. As Tricia’s mom, Barbara points out her daughter’s success shows one thing very clearly, “ Love your work and you can live your dream.” She said.47.

[答案]m 1g k 2。

1 Being angry doesn’t really solve much, but what people do when they feel angry is important. The goal is to calm down and try to solve what is bothering you. This is hard for some kids and adults, too.Instead of calming down, some kids might keep getting more and more upset until they explode like a volcano!2 Their anger might be so strong that they lose control of their temper. They may act in ways unacceptable and hurtful.People may say that someone has trouble controlling their temper. 3Some kids might get so angry that they scream at their parents, break something, or even worse, hit their brothers or sisters. 4 However, it’s not OK for a kid to do any of those things.Kids don’t want to act in this way, but sometimes angry feelings can be hard to manage. So what to do?Well, the good news is that kids don’t just have to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. 5 Imagine your temper as a puppy inside you that needs some training. The puppy is not bad—it will probably turn out to be a great dog.It just needs to learn some rules because, right now, that puppy is causing some problems for you.A.You can train you temper.B.You don’t want to cause trouble.C.Kids should be allowed to express their feelings, even angry ones.D.Everybody gets angry sometimes.E.In fact, they usually mean that a kid behaves badly when feeling angry.F.Instead of thinking of the person you’re angry with, think of something else.G.Some kids get angry more often or more easily than some other kids.Ⅴ. 1.One day I left my school and walked to home through the zoo.I was walking along while I saw a lot of people running about me.“Run for your life!”they shouted for me.I didn’t know what was happening and waiting for a minute.Suddenly I saw a tiger that has escaped from the cage.I stood still,so I was too frightening to move.I could do nothing but cry,“Help!Help!”“What the matter with you?”my mother asked.I woke up and realized that I had had a dream.“How a funny dream!”I thought.##答案:Ⅰ. 1.was wandering up and down2.arise at any time3.deal properly with4.so concerned;after all5.From now on;on your ownⅡ.
