1. SCOPE
1.1. This Quality Test Procedure pertains to all kitchen products that have components made from Tempered Glass.
2. PURPOSE
2.1. The purpose of this procedure is to define the testing method and equipment used to test the thermal resistance and
impact resistance of Tempered Glass components used in kitchen appliances. The Tempered Glass components must be capable of withstanding the temperature changes and impacts associated with normal usage.
3. EQUIPMENT
3.1. Apparatus:
3.1.1. Water Bath: The bath must be large enough to allow the test specimen to be completely immersed in the water.
The water should have a constant temperature of 40°F ± 5°.
3.1.2. Oven: Must be capable of maintaining a constant temperature of 300°F ± 10°.
3.1.3. Tempered Glass Sample
3.1.
4. 2” Diameter Steel Sphere
3.1.
4.1. The weight of the Sphere should be 1.18 pounds.
4. PROCEDURE
4.1.
4.1.1. Cycle the Tempered Glass Sample form 40ºF to 300ºF.
4.1.1.1. 6 hours at 40ºF and 6Hours at 300ºF
4.1.2. Repeat this cycle four (4) times.
4.1.3. The Tempered Glass Sample should not break at any time during the cycle.

4.2. Thermal shock
4.2.1.
4.2.2.
After the Tempered Glass Sample has stabilized, remove it from the Oven and immerse immediately into the
40ºF Water Bath.
4.2.3. The Tempered Glass Sample should not break at any time during the cycle.
4.3. Impact Test
4.3.1.
4.3.2. The Tempered Glass Sample should not break during of after the impact.
5. TEST RESULTS
5.1. Test results must be maintained for a period of two (2) years. Test results must be made available upon request of
The Holmes Group Quality Assurance Department.
