新课标高二上学期5册Unit 5测试Class: Name: Marks: 满分(120)第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AIt all started off with five. It was raining, and my dad told me that I had to make five free throws (投球) one after another without a break before I could go home. I was ten years old at that time. So I shot (投球) until I indeed made five free throws. Pretty soon the number of free throws increased until I got to high school and I had to make seventy-five before I could leave the gym.I used to get mad when I reached the required amount and I would miss the next one, but my dad made me start over, saying that I missed it on purpose. So in high school I would usually get to 120 before I stopped. My highest ever was 175. I never expected this would ever bring me some benefit, but one game really changed my idea. Our school team was playing basketball match with Royal High School, and we lost the game by twenty points a week earlier, so this game was all about revenge (报仇). With two minutes left in the game, my team was up by six and their coach told them to foul (犯规). Our coach immediately put forward a perfect plan — giving the ball to me every time. And every time my teammates gave me the ball, the other team would foul me. Then I went to the free throw line and made two free throws successfully. He ran to the scene with his first aid kit and found an old lady sitting at the bus stop. When boarding (上车) the bus, the old lady painfully hurt her left leg, which was bleeding. He introduced himself, and asked some basic first aid questions to get a general picture of her health. Then he put his jacket on the floor, using the lady’s coat as a pillow, and gently laid her down so he could raise her legs and apply some bandages. Bryan said, “At first I was a bit worried about remembering to do all the right things. I made sure she was as comfortable as possible.” When he had nearly finished, he told the lady that she was his first one. The lady said he was doing a great job.Just a week later, Brian got a second call-out to help another lady at a bus stop.Having used his new skills twice within a short time, Brian has decided to sign up as a Red Cross fir st aid volunteer. For men, the preferred cut is short on the sides and back but longer on top. For women, the company prefers a bob with a longer fringe (刘海) that can be swept to one side. This unusual request is its effort to help the country save energy. The spokeswoman for the Tokyo-based construction firm Maeda Corporation Chizuru Inoue explained, “Our company is eager to protect the environment and we encourage our staff to carry out many environment-friendly actions.”She added, “We are not sure of the data yet, but we believe if people have short hair, they do not need to use their hair driers for so long and they will use less water. If all our employees do this, then we m ay save a lot of power.” Some staff are confused about which style they must have and have been asking which salons (美容院) give the best cut.The energy-saving move is part of a national campaign to reduce energy consumption (消耗) following the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Japan has been struggling to produce enough electricity since the tsunami ended production at the Fukushima plants. The disaster resulted in a review of the country’s energy policy that now meansless than a quarter of its remaining nuclear plants are in use. The government has talked about a move away from nuclear energy towards more sustainable (能持续的) technologies. Many government departments have taken measures to save power, including a reduced use of air conditioning in offices and schools. Along with colleagues, she studied 207 students who slept for at least six hours per night. Students were randomly (随机地) assigned to study something declarative (陈述的) at 9 am or 9 pm, and returned for testing 30 minutes, 12 hours or 24 hours later.Declarative memory refers to the ability to consciously (有意识地) remember facts and events, and can be divided into memory for events and memory for facts about the world. People use both types of memory every day — remembering where they parked today or learning how a colleague prefers to be called. At the 12-hour retest, memory was better following a night of sleep compared to a day of wakefulness (不眠). At the 24-hour retest, with allstudents having received both a full night of sleep and a full day of wakefulness, students’ memories were greater when sleep happened shortly after learning rather than following a full day of wakefulness.“Our study confirms that sleeping directly after learning something new is bene ficial for memory. What’s special for this study is that we have shown sleep’s influence on declarative memory,” Payne said. “Since we found that sleeping soon after learning benefited both types of memory, this means that it would be a good thing to go over any information you need to remember before going to bed. In some sense, you may be telling the sleeping brain what to consolidate (巩固).”12. What’s the main idea of the text?A. How to improve one’s memory is a difficult problem.B. Nodding off after learning something new helps remember it.C. Students should nod off in class after they learn new materials.D. The best way to remember new materials is to nod off in class.13. We can learn about the study that .A. Jessica Payne and her colleagues were testedB. 207 students were eager to take the testC. it tested students studying something declarativeD. people’s memory can be divided into two types14. Paragraph 4 mainly tells us .A. students’ memories are the best if they sleep for 12 hours each dayB. sleeping for 24 hours contributes to improving students’ memoriesC. a full day of wakefulness can make students’ memories improved greatlyD. students’ memories are better when sleep happens shortly after learning15. What suggestion does Payne give in the last paragraph?A. The more you sleep, the more you remember.B. Go over what you want to remember before going to bed.C. Teachers should allow their students to sleep in class.D. If you want to improve your memory, you should sleep.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Keeping our friendship strong and healthyC. Having lunch out with a friendD. Getting together once in a quarterCA sudden screaming voice of a lady made everybody within a distance on the road stop and look back at her. It was a frightful moment when we realized why she had screamed. Her child was about to get hit by a car. After the situation came in control, a few of us went to the lady and asked her what happened. We got to know that her child had seen his uncle standing on the other side of the road and out of excitement ran towards him on the busy road.Well, this was just an example of how accidents take place due to children and how the chances of these children meeting with accidents are more than the adults because they are not familiar with the road safety rules. The recent survey on traffic accidents shows that the road accidents happened to children from the age of 10 to 12 has increased whereas there was a decline in the accident ration of the children from the age of 13 and above. One of the important things that both parents and teachers should teach them is the importance of road safety. They should be told about the consequences of what happens when a person does not follow traffic rules. If the children are taught to follow all the traffic rules then the chances of road accidents become less.In most of the schools, road safety rules are taught to the students by showing them pictures. The students should also be taught not to rush while boarding or getting down from the school bus. One of the important steps of road safety rules is not to talk while crossing the road.We think there is no need to learn traffic rules because we allhave common sense, but what it seems to be so easy is not that easy actually. There is a long list of such instances where almost one person dies every day in a road accident. With a conscious mind we can easily avoid such accidents and teach children the same for their safety.44. More children under 12 met with the road accidents probably because .A. they liked playing in the streetB. they usually broke traffic rulesC. they were too young to walkD. they were not protected well45. We can learn from Paragraph 3 that .A. students should be taught to obey the traffic rulesB. parents should take responsibility for their children’s accidentsC. teachers owe a duty of care to all their studentsD. parents should teach their children how to walk carefully46. Which of the following can help children keep safe on the road?a. Getting off the school bus as soon as possible.b. Talking while walking on the road.c. Crossing the roads at the zebra crossing properly.d. Boarding the school bus in turnA. a, cB. b, cC. a, bD. c, d47. What’s the best title of the passage?A. Instead, nursing students get a realistic clinical experience using computerized patients and staff (工作人员) actors.“Practicing on real people can be a frightening environment, and as our patients may be unwilling to accept treatment when a student walks in,” said Susana Barroso-Fernandez, who oversees UM’s simulation (模拟) program. “We created this environment to allow students to practice and make mistakes and never put a patient or student at risk.”UM’s Simulation Hospital is part of a growing trend (趋势) of colleges building simulation centers to provide real-life experiences to students. Community collegesand schools also use simulators for emergency medical technician and medical assistant programs.A 2014 study by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing found that colleges could use simulation to replace up to half of all clinical experience without any bad results. The students scored as well on nursing license exams as those getting most of their experience in hospitals and health care centers. Officials say they think simulation has helped their students achieve nearly perfect passing rates on the exams. There are major advantages of simulation. In addition to giving students a safe environment to practice in, it also gives students experience with conditions that are rare, but still important for them to know how to deal with. The Simulation Hospital will also be used as a training place for people outside of UM, officials said.“You can bring companies in that want to test new products before they go to market,” Barroso-Fernandez said. “You can work with community partners like police and fire departments. You can take this hospital and turn it into a casualty event and have the community practice disaster preparedness and response. It’s not just about nursing education.”24. It’s a long journey and the main stop is in Israel. The Great White Pelican is a huge bird. It’s the largest bird in the world to make such a long journey. Its diet is mainly fish and it eats about 1.4 kilos each day.The pelicans love to gather in large numbers. Until recent years, there were plenty of water supplies (供给) in Israel. Frequently, the pelicans arrive in Israel tired. They cannot continue their long journey until they have rested. However, for a variety of reasons, these water supplies have dried up and the pelicans have had to find other food sources.Fish farming has become big business in Israel. As you may imagine, a fish farm is something pelicans could usually only dream of! In the summer months when the Great White Pelicans passed through, Israel’s fish farmers began to lose tons of fish. Some farms were even forced to close their business. Something had to be done. The Israel Ministry of Agriculture considered the problem carefully. How could it stop 75,000 huge pelicans from arriving in Israel? It decided this was not possible. It chose a place with a plentiful supply of water, and provided money for local farmers to buy food, which they fed to the pelicans. The pelicans soon understood this and now arrive at the place to feed and rest. They no longer have to rely on the fish farms for food. It’s a solution that seems to have worked. At one point, it looked as if the Ministry would stop the money. One criticism (批评) was that with so much food, the pelicans would never leave and would become even more expensive. However, there was such outcry from environmentalists and farmers that the money remains.Perhaps their large numbers in Israel will attract birdwatchers from all over the world to visit the amazing sight, and tourism can bring new income to the country.28. What can we learn about Great White Pelicans?A. They are loners.B. They winter in Israel.C. They are good at long-distance flying.D. They reduce their intake during their journey.29. What problem did the fish farmers face?A. The pelicans damaged the local environment.B. Their farms were closed by the government.C. The water supplies were not enough.D. They suffered a heavy loss of fish.30. What measures did the government take?A. They prevented the pelicans stopping in Israel.B. They encouraged farmers to develop tourism.C. They gave farmers money to farm more fish.D. They found a new place for the pelicans.31. What is the author’s attitude to the pelicans in Israel?A. Optimistic.B. Unclear.C. Doubtful.D. Unconcerned.DI grew to be a tall girl but I tried to be as ordinary as possible. At school, I always chose a seat in the back of the room, and never raised my hand in class. When I was16, I went to my new school. And I liked the English teacher. In my last year in high school, however, we were told that we were going to have a new English teacher, Oliver Bascom.Oliver Bascom! My girlfriends and I laughed as we imagined a short and bald man. The situation was not funny, because this man would teach us for the whole year. After we opened the door, there in front of the blackboard, we saw a young and handsome man! What followed was pandemonium (喧闹), seventeen-year-old girls flying to get to seats in the front of the room. And I managed to get a front and center desk.I really wanted to make a good impression on my new teacher, but I usually kept quiet. The day that directions were given for our first major writing assignment, I arrived late to class. A friend later gave me the guidelines and I thought I understood them. I worked the whole weekend on the essay (文章) and waited nervously for Mr. Bascom’s evaluation (评价).After three days, he arrived in class holding the corrected papers. “I’ve chosen the ten best essays for class discussion,” he said.Twenty minutes later, my heart s ank when he got to the last essay, and I didn’t hear my name.“These are all great essays,” Mr. Bascom continued. “However, I am now going to read you the most successful of all ...” We were all surprised as I was the author of this unusual work.A different girl walked out of the classroom that day. I knew that I had a new set of standards to live up to and that anything was possible in the future. Finally, I raised my head.32. What was the author’s problem?A. She was deeply troubled by her height.B. She changed schools now and then.C. She disliked her English teacher.D. She behaved badly in class.33.

But Sun Huashan, deputy administrator(副部长) of the State Administration of Work Safety, said their chances for survival were “rather slim”.The bureau supervising Henan coal mine safety was also pessimistic(悲观的).“The situation is very tough in the mine. The gas is very dense(浓密的), and in such conditions, it's hard to survive,” an official at the bureau told the French news agency AFP.Thousands of people died in some poorly regulated mines each year, despite the government promises to improve safety.Official figures released on Thursday showed that 4,153 people died in mining accidents in China in the first three quarters of this year—a figure 13% lower than last year's.36.The passage probably comes from________.A.a newspaper B.a diaryC.a story book D.a survey37.About________people were dead or missing in the gas explosion.A.400 B.200C.246 D. 14038.What did the officials mean by saying “the chances of finding anyone still alive were slim”?A.It's hopeful to find someone alive.B.It's not unlikely to find one alive.C.It's almost impossible for them to live in such a hard situation.D.They would give up rescuing and searching39.The passage tries to tell us________.A.one of the worst coal mine accidentsB.how to avoid coal mine accidentsC.many coal mine accidents happen in ChinaD.the decrease of deaths in mining accidents of the yearB“It's really cool to have a dad who flies fighter jets,” thought 11-year-old Casey as she was watching her dad flying overhead. Living on an Air Force base was not as bad as some people might think. Casey rather enjoyed staying with some friends who had something in common with each other. She especially loved the time when her dad would come home each day and greet her with a new joke.Today was different, though. When her dad walked in the door, he looked sad for some reason. Casey didn't like that look. Her dad just kissed her on the forehead and told her mom that he needed to talk to her. Casey knew something was wrong. As her parents came out of the other room, mom was crying. Dad sat down and began to explain to her that he was called on to go to Iraq and that he would leave for one year. Casey was so astonished that she couldn't speak for a moment. She began to feel tears in her eyes. How could she live without her dad for a whole year? She had a lot of questions and their family discussed all the details that evening.Soon, the day came. Casey's dad was leaving. As Casey and her mom watched him climb up the steps to his cockpit(驾驶舱), the tears began to flow from their eyes. It was hard for Casey to believe that she wouldn't be seeing her dad for so long time. They depended on him for so many things. Who would fix the broken window in the bathroom? In a recent survey, Graham reported that when children learn to spell some words incidentally(偶然地) or informally as they read or write, good spellers learn many more words through these methods than poor spellers. On the other hand, direct spelling instruction improves the spelling performance of both good and poor spellers. But it is unlikely that such instruction can account for all the necessary growth to become an excellent speller. For example, adults can typically spell 10,000 or more words correctly, but are only taught how to spell about 3,000 words while in school and not all those words are mastered. Therefore, both formal and informal methods should be stressed. This does not mean, however, that equal amounts of both should be provided. Instead, the level of formal and informal instruction needed by individual children, will vary and should be adjusted(调整). With balanced instruction, the fulcrum(支点) is the child, and balance depends on what the child needs. This same principle also applies to considerations about the role of meaning, process, and form in writing instruction since skilled writing depends on all three. The amount of emphasis placed on each area should be adjusted so that it is consistent(一致的) with the needs of the child. For example, Juel found that some children who were poor writers had difficulties with both form and process, whereas others had difficulties with just one or the other. Thus, some of the students should be given additional help in both areas, whereas other students needed help in only one.44.The paragraph before this passage may be about ________.A.children's needB.balance between meaning and processC.emphasis on spellingD.writing instruction45.From the first paragraph, we can draw a conclusion that ________.A.both the formal and informal instructions will be usedB.spelling words without instructions will be more effectiveC.the instruction is perfect to explain the growth to be a good spellerD.adults can spell words better than children in every way46.The passage puts stress on ________.A.the writing skills of spellingB.how to spell betterC.balanced instruction to the students need in writingD.principle about the role of writing47.What is the most suitable title for this passage?A.Two Methods of SpellingB.Principle of WritingC.Balanced Instruction for ChildrenD.How to Be a Good Speller.DThe American turkey is famous for some of its characteristics. The bird can run at a speed of more than 20 miles per hour, and it can fly in short bursts at a speed of more than 50 miles per hour. Turkeys have excellent eyesight and hearing. If they have a sharp sense of smell, they would be almost impossibly forgetful. There are two signs of turkey presence. One is their V-like scratches(抓痕) while getting food. And the other is the male turkey's beaks, which are the size of a small finger with a bend at one end, like the letter “J”.Native Americans in the Southwest and Mexico kept turkeys for feathers and food, and the birds with their alarm calls probably were good “watch dogs”as well. The Indians used the feathers in ceremonies, and used the feathers to form blankets. They hollowed out the large leg bones to serve as whistles. The Spanish transported wild turkeys from Mexico to Europe for domestication(驯养) in the 16th century. European settlers brought domesticated turkeys back to the New World. Finally, local decrease of wild turkeys paralleled(平衡) the European settlers' spread across America. Today, widespread re-introduction programs are under way to return the five species of wild turkeys to their native habitats. In the late 1770's, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the turkey should be the symbol for the United States. He argued that the Bald Eagle was no better than a fish-eater.
