Others, like snowshoe hares, take center stage in predators' (捕食者的) view when they lack snow for disguising their white fur, which is not a good thing for them, of course.Black bears, on the other hand, have been keeping busy gathering nuts and apples, when they would normally have settled into their winter homes by now. Vermont and Massachusetts officials have asked residents to wait till snowfalls to take out their bird feeders for the sake of safety, the article said.“We suggest waiting for six or more inches of snow that lasts before taking out your bird feeders, especially if you have been visited in the past by bears or if there are sightings of bears in your neighborhood,〞 Forrest Hammond, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bear biologist, said in the article. “Due to lack of snow and frozen ground, birds are able to seek in fields and forests for their natural foods.〞Snow amounts can also determine how comfortable bears are and how quickly they consume their accumulated fat during hibernation (冬眠), noted Hammond in the article. This is because snow covers and traps them in their winter homes, and also hides them from predators.5.What may upset snowshoe hares because of El Nino?A.Their being caught more easily. Short Answer QuestionsPassage 1A man's skin is thicker than a woman's and not nearly as soft. The thickness prevents the sun's radiation from getting through, which is why men wrinkle less than women do.Women have a thin layer of fat just under the skin and there is a plus(有利因素)to this greater fat reserve. It acts as an invisible fur coat to keep a woman warmer in the winter.Women also stay cooler in summer. The fat layer helps insulate them against heat.Men's fat is distributed differently. And they do not have that layer of it underneath their skin. In fact, they have considerably less fat than women and more lean mass. Forty-one percent of a man's body is muscle compared to thirty-five percent for women, which means men have more muscle power. When it comes to strength, almost 90 percent of a man's weight is strength compared to about 50 percent of a woman' weight. The higher proportion of muscle to fat makes it easier for men to lose weight. Muscle burns up five more calories a pound than fat does just to maintain itself. So when a man goes on a diet, the pounds roll off much faster. For all men's muscularity they do not have the energy reserves women do. They have more start-up energy, but the fat tucked away in women's nook sand crannies(隐匿处)provides a rich energy reserve that men lack.Cardiologists(心脏病专家)at the University of Alabama who tested healthy women on treadmills(单调而又劳累的活)discovered that over years the female capacity for exercise far exceeds the male capacity. A woman of sixty who is in good health can exercise up to 90 percent of what she could do when she was twenty. A man of sixty has only 60 percent left of his capacity as a twenty-year-old.Question:1.The title of the passage can be _____.2.What makes men wrinkle less than women?_____.3.The thin layer of fat under women's skin keep _____ in summer.4.The proportion of muscle to fat explains why it is _____ for women to lose weight comparedwith men.5.It is implied that the process of aging is _____ in a healthy woman.Passage 2Chronic disability is affecting people more frequently at younger and younger age. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the percentage of children under 17 years of age who are limited in activity due to chronic conditions increased by 86% from 1967 to 1979.Mental disease is affecting more and more people. The National Institute of Mental Health estimated in 1984 that one in every five Americans had a mental disorder. This same study revealed that, during a six month period,8.3% of Americans suffered from an anxiety disorder, 6.4% had an alcohol or drug problem, and 6% had a mood disorder. In addition to these various trends, one of the more significant facts that will affect the future of health care is that a large percentage of the population will be over 65 years old. According toprojections by the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the size of the American population over 65 in 1985 will have doubled by 2030.Futurists generally assume that twenty-first century medicine will include new and more powerful drugs and various innovative technological interventions. However, futurists tend to ignore the serious problem presently arising from conventional medications. According to 1986 statistics, the average American receives 7.5 prescriptions a year. This is a particularly frightening number because we all know people who have not been prescribed any medications in the past year, which means that someone else is getting their 7.5 drugs.Question:1.Chronic disability has ___________________ among teenagers.2.Anxiety disorder, alcohol or drug problem are considered to be_______________________ disease.3.According to the passage, futurists should ____________attention to the problems arisingfrom conventional medications.4.It can inferred from the statistics that a number of people have taken_________________________ than the average.5.This passage ______________________health problem.答案Passage 11.Some Differences Between Men And Women.2.The thickness of men's skin.3.women cooler4.more difficult OR not so easy5.slowerPassage 21.increased greatly2.mental3.pay more4.more drugs/medicine5.is mainly about (or) discusses。

Youth football team members rescued more than two weeks after sudden flooding trapped them in a cave in Thailand are now being well looked after at a hospital in the northern city ofChiang Rai. In addition to treating the boys for potential body fluid loss, inadequate nutrition andlack of oxygen, their doctors also plan to closely monitor them for symptoms of diseases that mayhave been infected by animals living in the cave."The next step is to make sure those kids and their families are safe, because living in a cave provides a different environment, which might contain animals that could transmit…disease," said the local hospital. The boys and their family members have been told to watch for symptomssuch as headache, nausea(反胃), muscle pain or difficulty breathing, the reports added.Yet based on the location where the boys were trapped—more than four kilometers from thecave complex's main entrance, past some fully submerged passages—and the fact they have been swimming out wearing full scuba face masks, it seems unlikely that they were living with bats inthe cave or breathed in bat-associated bacteria during their rescue, several infectious disease experts said. "It's hard to imagine bats got that deep into the cave because of all those narrow passageways, but it is possible," says Ian Lipkin, an animal expert and professor at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. "It's unlikely that there would be many animals in there," notes Jonathan Epstein, a doctor at EcoHealth Alliance, a nonprofit organization that studies diseases and how to prevent them. Bats typically like to rest in areas they can easily enterand exit, not in places that fully flood, he adds.Bats in Thailand have been linked with a wide range of viruses that are similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)—Lipkin says. But it seems more likely the boys would have been exposed to infection-causing bacteria when they swam through the dirty water with cuts and scrapes. "If you are trying to prioritize issues with respect to health care for these kids, numberone would be psychological damage and second will be bacterial infections from the cuts and scrapes they may have encountered." Lipkin says.(1)According to the passage, which of the following is NOT the potential symptom of the rescued team members?A. Lacking body waterB. Unbalanced nutritionC. Pain in the head and musclesD. Adequate oxygen(2)The underlined word "submerged" in paragraph 3 means ____________.A. under the waterB. wild and dangerousC. with animalsD. bat-associated(3)Which is true about the caves and the trapped people?A. Jonathan Epstein thought it possible for the team members to be attacked by bats in the fully-flooded cave.B. Lipkin argued bats were not able to get deep into the narrow cave wherethe kids were trapped.C. Lipkin said the victims might be infected when their body were exposed to bacterial water during the rescue.D. Lipkin believed the most important issue for the cave-trapped teenagers was infectious bacteria examination.(4)What is the text type of the passage?A. An academic essay about bats.B. The title of the passage: Consumers and Their Brands: Developing
Relationship Theory in Consumer Research
Reading content:Although the relationship metaphor dominates contemporary marketing thought and practice, surprisingly little empirical work has been conducted on relational
phenomena in the consumer products domain, particularly at the level of the brand.
In this article, the author demonstrates his idea in three aspects.
To begin with, the author argues for the validity of the relationship proposition in the consumer-brand context, including a debate as to the legitimacy of the brand as an active relationship partner and empirical support for the phenomenological significance of consumer-brand bonds.
What’s more, the dissertation provides a framework for characterizing and better understanding the types of relationships consumers form with brands, which is beneficial to the further research and study.
In addition, the author inducts from the data the concept of brand relationship quality, which is a diagnostic tool for conceptualizing and evaluating relationship strength. Three in-depth case studies inform this agenda, and their interpretation is guided by an integrative review of the literature on person-to-person relationships, which can contributes to the research to the full. Insights offered through application of inducted concepts to two relevant research
domains, which are brand loyalty and brand personality. And they are advanced in several aspects. The exercise is intended to urge fellow researchers to refine, test, and argue the working hypotheses suggested herein and to progress toward these goals with
confidence in the validity of the relationship premise at the level of consumers’
lived experiences with their brands.
My reflections:From my personal point of view, thanks to the wide spread of advanced technology in recent years, people can transmit information at a greatly enhanced rate, and consumer knowledge is easily influenced by marketing activities. Consumers can
rely on information and education from advertising, personal experience, and public reports and so on to find out about the newest knowledge and information. In addition, as peoples lifestyles change and high-tech products proliferate, consumers must increasingly rely on professional information and knowledge to guide their purchases. Because of this, the amount of knowledge possessed by consumers may exert a key influence over the
purchase of high-tech products. As a consequence, this study sought to understand the relationship between consumers’perceptions and decision-making,which is of great significance to the research on consumers’behavior. This study examined the correlations between consumer perceptions and decision-making to ensure the validity of the results on the study of their behavior.
Based on the study’s results, we can safely propose the following conclusions:
On the whole, foreign consumers are quite attentive to their perceptions, which can have negative influence on their consumer behavior.Following factor analysis,it was found that consumer perceptions can be divided into two aspects. The first which is of great significance is called perceived product assessment and the second is defined as willingness to transmit word-of-mouth. As for consumers’decision making emphasis, factor analysis found that consumer’s decision-making with regard to smart phones can be classified as the three aspects of “purchase
intention,”“basic cell phone functions,”and “advanced cell phone
functions”. Further analysis discovered that canonical correlation analysis
revealed that two consumer perception factors and three consumer decision-making factors possess significant correlation. In general, the greater the emphasis on consumer perceptions, the more attention consumers pay to decision-making.
To summarize, from my personal point of view, the consumers should do shopping wisely and put much consideration on the performance-price-ratio and the quality of the products, which means the should not just consider the the price or the exterior of the products. What’s more,it is generally acknowledged that a rational consumer will put much consideration on the overall quality, and only by this way can the consumers get access to the most satisfactory products.。
