He has a strong desire for success.= He has a strong desire to succeed.Vt.希望得到,想要【搭配】desire sth. 渴望,想要某事desire to do sth. 渴望做某事desire sb. to do sth. 希望某人做某事desire that... 期望......[从句谓语用(should)+ 动词原形]她想让你马上过来。

She desired you to come at once.= She desired that you should come at once.【辨析】desire, hope, want, wishdesire 指由于愿望强烈而迫切希望、渴望,有时候甚至至夸大;其后跟宾语从句时,要用虚拟语气。

hope 指某人希望有一个良好的结果,而且这种希望可能得到满足。

want 多用于口语,表示因缺少某物而急于想得到它。
