It is reported that we will have no coal or oil to use in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources, what can we use in the future and where can we move? Think about it. I think we should say no to the students who waste things every day. Everybody should stop wasting as soon as possible. In our everyday life, we can do many things to prevent (阻⽌) waste from happening, for example, turn off the water taps when we finish washing, turn off the lights when we leave the classroom, try not to order more food than we need, and so on. AIn Vietnam, Tet-Trung-Thu, or the Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of the most popular family holidays. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.Vietnamese families plan their activities around their children on this special day. In a Vietnamese folk story, parents were working so hard to prepare for the harvest that they left the children playing by themselves. To make up for that time, the parents would use the Mid-Autumn Festival as a chance to show their love and thanks for their children. As a result, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Children’s Festival. In the United States, this tradition continues in many Vietnamese-American families. Activities are often centered on children and education. Parents buy lanterns (灯笼) for their children so that they can take part in a candle and lantern parade at dawn. Lanterns mean brightness, while the parade means success in school. Vietnamese markets sell a variety of lanterns, but the most popular children’s lantern is the star lantern. Other children’s activities include arts and crafts(手工艺)in which children make face masks and lanterns. Children also perform traditional Vietnamese dances for adults and take part in contests for prizes. Unicorn(麒麟)dancers are also very popular.Like Chinese people, Vietnamese parents tell their children folk stories and serve mooncakes and other special treats under the bright moon. A favorite folk story is about a carp (鲤鱼) that wanted to become a dragon. The carp worked and worked and finally changed itself into a dragon. Parents use this story to encourage their children to work hard so that they can become whatever they want to be. 1. In both Vietnam and China, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, people would _____ .A. eat mooncakesB. give lucky money in red paperC. take part in contestsD. buy a carp3.What is the focus of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Vietnam?A. The only point in time that can be agreed on as the beginning of this tradition was 1582, in France. Before that year, the New Year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25. The celebration reached the highest point on April 1. With the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, the Gregorian calendar (公历,阳历) was introduced, and New Year’s Day was moved to January 1.However, because in those days communications were not as developed as they are today, many people did not receive the news for several years. Some people refused to accept the new calendar and continued to celebrate the New Year on April 1. These backward people were considered “fools” by other people. They were often sent on “fools’ errands”(徒劳无益的工作) or were made the targets of jokes. This developed, over time, into a tradition of playing a trick on someone on the first day of April. The tradition eventually spread to England and Scotland in the eighteenth century. It was later introduced to the American colonies of both the Britain and France. April Fools’ Day thus developed into aninternational fun feast, so to speak, with different nationalities specializing in their own kind of humor at the expense of their friends and families.5. According to an earlier calendar, New Year’s Day in France was celebratedfor ________.A. one dayB.three daysC.eight daysD.seven days6. Which of the following first had the tradition of celebrating the April Fools’ Day?A. France.B. England.C. Scotland.D. America.7. We can infer from the passage that ________.A. news traveled slowly at that timeB. Charles IX reformed the calendarC. April Fools’ Day is a fun feastD. the history of April Fools’ Day is not completely clear8. The passage mainly tells us ________.A. what the French did on Apr il Fools’ DayB. how April Fools’ Day came into beingC. when was the new calendar introducedD. why some people were fooled in FranceCIn the UK, most children have their midday meal at school, but in many schools, parents can choose what their children eat. The children can have a school lunch—a hot, cooked meal; or they can take a packed lunch with them, which usually includes cold food like sandwiches.Often parents prepare lunches on the basis of what their children want. Cathy, a mother of three chi ldren, told us, “My children have packed lunches, because they say they hate school dinners. I make 3 packed lunches every morning, so we’re like a sandwich bar in our kitchen in the morning.”However, another mother, Susan, made her choice based on the nutritious value of the food. She said, “My daughter always has school dinners. I think she probably gets healthier food by having a cooked lunch at school than she would if I made sandwiches.”But how healthy are school dinners? Kaz, a father, wasn’t impressed with them. “Fizzy (有泡沫的) drinks were offered and I think there were a lot of chips.”The question of how healthy school food is was brought to Jamie Oliver, who launched a campaign to improve children’s nutrition, after spending a year working in a sch ool kitchen. The TV series about the campaign won an award this week.He was horrified (惊恐的) at the junk food he saw being served, which included burgers, pizza and chips. He decided to ban the junk, and started cooking good stews (炖菜) and curries for the children instead.Jamie improved the school dinners in that particular school, and trained the dinner ladies to cook healthy food. Then he put pressure on the government to improve the standards of school food across the country. And it looks as if the changes have begun.9. What would be the best title for the passage?A. School DinnersB. Healthy FoodC. Dinners in the UKD. Research on Dinners10.The underlined phrase “on the basis of”in the second paragraph probably means “_____ ”.A. by comparisonB. according toC. in spite ofD. for the good of11. We can learn from the passage that ______.A. in Britain, all children have their lunch at schoolB. Cathy’s children like school dinnersC. stews and curries are healthy foodD. Jamie Oliver works in a school kitchenDThe food we eat seems to have a great effect on our health. Although science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is related to food as well. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, some researchers realized that things commonly used to keep colour in meats and other food additives(添加剂)caused cancer.Yet, these additives remain in our food, and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings(包装)of foods are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often givepenicillin to their animals, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of cows. Sometimes similar things are supplied to animals not for their health, but just to make a profit. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get a higher price on the market. Although some countries have tried to control such things, the practice continues.12. According to this passage, we can know .A. perhaps most of human illness is caused by what we eatB. perhaps most kinds of cancer are related to what people eatC. cancer was discovered in 1945D. science has made food unfit to eat13. Things that are used to keep colours in meats are .A. harmfulB. uselessC. helplessD. dangerous14. All the additives .A. are bright and colourlessB. are not bright and colourfulC. have indirect effects on our healthD. have direct effects on our health15. Which of the following is not true?A. Some wrappings of food are harmful.B. Farmers try to make more money on the market by fattening their animals.C. “The practice continues” means “things are still going on like that”.D. We needn’t take care of what we eat.第二节(共5小题,每题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,选出最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

高三英语月考试题及答案-郑州市2016届高三第二次质量预测
郑州市2016年高中毕业年级第二次质量预测阅读理解AJumanji(勇敢者的游戏)is a story for children about a very strange game—a game that becomes far too real and frightening for the players. It was a story by Chris Van Allsburg, which was later filmed in 1996, starring the famous American actor Robin Williams. The story begins in 1869 in New Hampshire, America. Two young brothers bury a box under some trees. A hundred years later, in 1969, a boy, Alan Panisb, finds the box, and takes it home. He is unhappy that his father may want to se nd him to a boarding school. Alan’s friend, Sarah, arrives, and they open the box. Inside is a board game. At the start of the game, some words appear:” Do you want to leave the world behind and go back to the past? Then this is the game for you,” Suddenly Alan finds that he is disappearing into the game. The story has a deep meaning. Through his adventures Alan learns something important—if you face your fears, your problems will go away. Alan turns to face Van Pelt, the hunter who is trying to kill him. In doing so, he completes the game and returns to reality. Then he finds that his father is not going to send him to a boarding school after all.In Jumanji, time is flexible. The film director Spielberg’s “Back to the Future” films play with time in the same way. Top scientists even tell us now that time travel is theoretically possible!21. From the story we learn that Alan is a boy who .A. dislikes his study at schoolB. is afraid of his serious fatherC. was born a hundred years agoD. goes back to the past in the game22. Through the game Alan has realized that whenever he has difficulties he should .A. escape into the pastB. face them bravelyC. ask for his father’s adviceD. read the words on the box23. What does the author mean when he says time is flexible?A. One can travel in time.B. Science can change the limit of time.C. Time travel is impossible in space.D. Time is a common topic in film-making.BIt’s that time of year when people need to lock their cars. It’s not because there are a lot ofcriminals running around stealing cars. Rather, it’s because of good-hearted neighbors who want to share their harvest. Especially with this year’s large crop, leaving a car unlock ed in my neighborhood is an invitation for someone to fill it with zucchini(西葫芦).My sister, Sharon, recently had a good year of tomatoes. She and her family had eaten and canned so many that they had begun to feel their skin turn slightly red. That’s when she decided it was time to share her blessings. She started calling everyone she knew. When that failed, she began asking everyone in the neighborhood, eventually finding a neighbor delighted to have the tomatoes. “Feel free to take whatever you want,” Sh aron told her. Later that day, Sharon found that her garden had indeed been harvested. She felt happy that she could help someone and that the food didn’t go to waste.A few days later, Sharon answered the door. There was the neighbor, holding a hot loaf of bread. The neighbor smiled pleasantly,” I wanted to thank you for all of the tomatoes, and I have to admit that I took a few other things and hoped you wouldn’t mind.”Sharon couldn’t think of anything else in her garden that had been worth harvesting an d said so,” Oh, but you did,” the neighbor said. “You had some of the prettiest zucchini I’ve ever seen.”Sharon was confused. The two of them walked together into the backyard. When the neighbor pointed at the long green vegetables, Sharon smiled,” Well, actually, those are cucumbers (黄瓜)that we never harvested, because they got too big, soft and bitter for eating.”The neighbor looked at Sharon, shock written all over her face. Modern Land Art movement really got going in the 1960s when American artists began creating Land Art on a large scale. Today, works of modern Land Art can be seen all over the world, sometimes right alongside much older pieces of Land Art created by people who lived thousands of years ago.Land Art, which is not necessarily unchangeable, can take a number of forms. For examples, in 1970 Robert Smithson created the Spiral Jetty(螺旋状防波堤), made of a collection of stones and mud, in the Great Salt Lake. The American artist made a large jetty in a spiral shape which sticks out into the waters of the lake.Reshaping the landscape is a common characteristic of Land Art, which can be created by moving parts around. People can also add things to the environment to create Land Art, like salt, which is added to the Spiral Jetty. It is possible to use plants. In all cases, Land Art is immovable.Land Art is designed to gradually form, change, and eventually decay(衰落). That’s one of the biggest differences between Land Art and most of the art one sees in the museums. Some works of art can exist only for a few hours or days. Others are exposed to rain and wind so that they develop and decay over time, which is part of the attractiveness in the eyes of the artists.28. What can be learned from the first paragraph?A. Land Art was the most popular art in the 1960s.B. Land Art aims to get people interested in nature.C. American artists were the first to create Land Art.D. People have been creating Land Art for thousands of years.29. What do we know about Robert Smithson?A. He is a great creative artist.B. He lives near the Great Salt Lake.C. He made the most famous Land Art.D. He was a pioneer in creating Land Art.30. One of the unique characteristics of Land Art lies in .A. it shows the extreme beauty of natureB. it develops and decays gradually over timeC. it combines the landscapes around completelyD. it offers the artists a chance to get close to nature31. What is the passage mainly about?A. Works of Land Art.B. History of Land Art.C. Changes of Land Art.D. Introduction of Land Art.DPeople have been wondering why elephants do not develop cancer even though they have lifespans(寿命)that are similar to humans, living for around 50 to 70 years. Now scientists believe they know why. A team at the University of Chicago, Us has found that elephants carry a large number of genes that stop tumors(肿瘤)developing. To be precise, they found 20 copies of an anti-tumor gene called TP53 in elephants. Most other species, including humans, only carry one copy.According to the research, the e xtra copies of the gene improved the animal’s sensitivity to DNA damage, which lets the cells quickly kill themselves when damaged before they can go on to form deadly tumors.“An increased risk of developing cancer has stood in the way of the evolution of large body sizes in many animals,” the study author Dr Vincent Lynch told The Guardian. If every living cell has the same chance of becoming cancerous(癌变的), large creatures with a long lifespan like whales and elephants should have a greater risk of developing cancer than humans and mice. But across species, the risk of cancer does not show a connection with body mass. This phenomenon was found by Oxford University scientist Richard Peto in the 1970s and later named “Peto’s paradox(悖论)”. Biologists believe it results from larger animals usingprotection that many smaller animals do not. In t he elephant’s case, the making of TP53 is nature’s way of keeping this species alive. The study also found that when the same genes were brought to life in mice, they had the same cancer resistance as elephants. This means researchers could use the discovery to develop new treatments that can help stop cancers spreading or even developing in the first place.“Nature has already figured out how to prevent cancer,” said Joshua Schiffman, a biologist at the School of Medicine, University of Utah, Us. “It’s up to us to learn how different animals deal with the problem so that we can use those strategies to prevent cancer in people.”32. Why are elephants unlikely to develop cancer?A. They have a rather large body size.B. Their genes suffer no DNA damage.C. Certain genes in their body kill existing tumors.D. They carry many genes to prevent tumors developing.33. According to the passage, what has been a risk in the evolution of large animals?A. Deadly tumors.B. The huge body mass.C. Cells killing themselves.D. Sensitivity to DNA damage.34. What does the underlined part” This phenomenon” in Paragraph 5 probably refer to?A. larger animals have protection from TP53.B. The risk of cancer is not related to body size.C. larger animals suffer the same risk of cancer as smaller ones.D. The huger animals are, the biggest risk of cancer they will have.35. What can be concluded from the passage?A. Depending on nature is surely enough to fight against cancer.B. The TP53 genes have proved useful in stopping cancer in people.C. Humans are expected to prevent cancer with the making of TP53.D. The extra copies of elephants’ genes are used to cure cancer patients.七选五Study Links Video Game Use to Problems in schoolA new study warns tha t too much time spent playing computer games could affect a child’s performance at school. 36 They show that too many hours spent playing games can reduce students’ chances of success in school.More than 600 teenagers between the ages of 14 and 16 took part in the research project.37 It is said to be the first ever long-term study in Northern Ireland on the influence of information technology on school test results. The study found that teenagers who played computer games less than once a week were more successful in school than those who played them twice a day or more. 41% of the students who used gaming devices two or more times a day received passing grades on school exams. 38 The study found that social media use did not affect school performance.Caline McStravick is the director of the National Children’s Bureau Northern Ireland. She says the study showed no connection between social media and test results. “ 39 I think that’s more because social media is part of every child’s life. It’s the way they communicate. It’s the way they keep in touch with their friends.”Many parents say their children are becoming increasingly dependent on computer games. Some have compared gaming to a drug addiction. 40 It suggested that computer games can cause children to stay awake late at night. Less sleep makes children tired and unable to pay attention in school the next day.A. However, the study did not explore addiction.B. The new games are much different from older ones.C. It was clea r that social media didn’t have any effect.D. It took place over a period of three years from 2013 to 2015.E. That compared with 77% of those who rarely played the games.F. Drug addiction does great harm to their health and performance at school.G. Bri tain’s National Children’s Bureau Northern Ireland reported the results of the study.完形填空I had just started my second year studying at Cambridge University when I was faced with the news I had never expected. Most caves are formed 61 nature under the ground, but some have entrances people can find. That’s just what happened one day in 1940. Four boys were taking 62 walk in the woods near Montignac. As they walked along, one of them noticed an unusual rock. 63 they got closer, they found it w asn’t a rock but an opening in the ground. This opening led to a cave, so they decided to have a look around it. The walls of the cave were 64 (cover) with ancient art. The boys didn’t know it, but the cave was the find of the century!Over the years, many historians and artists came to study the art. They wanted to understand who painted the pictures and 65 they might mean. They soon realized some of the art indicated animals that were on Earth a long time ago. Many of the pictures also showed people 66 (follow) animals and trying to kill them for food. In the end, historians agreed that this was likely to be the art of a civilization that existed over 15,000 years ago.By 1950, over a thousand people from all over the world were visiting the cave every day. But by 1955, the paintings were beginning to become difficult 67 (see). Many people were passing through the cave, so the paintings were losing their color. 68 (sad), people can no longer visit the cave. However, another set of cave paintings has been created. These paintings look exactly the same 69 the Lascaux Cave Paintings. People 70 (make) the paintings so that everyone can still learn about this great ancient civilization.短文改错Have you ever been to Wuzhen? Like manysmall towns in the southern area, which has a lot of small bridges going through clean streams. Local people live in old houses, they are very friendly. During the day, you can walk or sit on a boat to enjoying the natural scenery along the stream. The scene at night is attractively as well. There are all kinds of round and square light. Every time I look at the pictures for which I took, I will remember the water, the bridges and the houses. I was 18,I'd been working for my dad's restaurant in Milan and I wanted a new experience. My friend from home lived in London and he used to tell me how incredible it was. I was really bored and so I took my luggage and left.I was so lost when I arrived at Stansted. To me, English sounded likeChinese. I only arrived with a few hundred pounds. I lived with my friend in east London for a while. I couldn't find a job for a month. Finally I founda waiter role in a restaurant. At the time, I had nothing else going on in mylife. I used to get up, go to work, and sleep. It was so boring. Then one day on my lunch break, I saw a Gymbox. When I took a look in, there was an amazing Muay Thai. I used to do boxing when I was 15 but I wasn't that serious about it. There and then I joined the gym and signed up to the Thai boxing team.I fell in love with it. I never missed a session. I started training a lotand the head coach said to me one day, "Do you want to fight?" I knew that's what I wanted to do. He put me in competitions and I won my first nine amateur games. After watching me progress, they offered to help me fight professionally. However, at one point I had a motorcycle crash and was out for18 months. This year I've fought in Milan and London. I'd say I'm about 12 fightsaway from becoming a winner.Sometimes I can't believe how far I've come from that day I arrived in England. So, at competitions, when he started running into obstacles and falling off the ends of teeter﹣totters 〔跷跷板〕, his owner, San Francisco﹣area dog trainer Dianne Morey, was concerned. As time passed, she noticed a pattern. The problems only occurred at competitions held in horse arenas, where yellow obstacles blended into the colorof the sand covering the floor. Concerned about his eyesight, Morey took Zero to a vet, who diagnosed him with a genetic condition. Morey found the diagnosis "heartbreaking." After one last competition﹣ which he won﹣ Zero retired. In the time since, he's led a life full of activities like dock diving and hiking, where poor vision is less dangerous. While there's no cure for his disease, protective eyewear has helped keep him safe while being active. On average, dogs develop nearsightedness or farsightedness less often than humans, says Alexandra vander Woerdt at Animal Medical Center in New York City. However, their eyesight also declines with age. Injuries and some diseases such as glaucoma〔青光眼〕 can cloud their vision. Thinking back, Morey realizes some behaviors ﹣ for instance, the way Zero poked his nose before entering a gate ﹣ were signshis vision was impaired.Identifying vision issues in dogs isn't as easy as with humans. Dogs don't bark wrong letters on the eye chart, and they're very good at adapting. Treatments for eye problems may include eyedrops, medications or surgery. Eyewear can also play a role in treating or preventing many issues. Many dogs don't like eyewear at first. Zero was an exception, thanks to his training in agility and tricks,Morey says.〔1〕What made Dianne Morey concerned?A.Her trained dog Zero fell off in competitions.B.She was badly hurt by a dog in a competition.C.She found her eyesight was declining with age.D.Her trained dog Zero wasn't as clever as before.〔2〕What can we know from the second paragraph?A.Zero is retiring soon.B.Zero's disease can't be cured.C.Zero got the disease from his birth.D.Zero has recovered from his poor eyesight.〔3〕Which of the following can replace the word "blended" in the second paragraph?A.added.B.missed.C.needed.D.mixed.〔4〕What makes it difficult to identify dogs' vision problems?A.They are too fierce to control.B.They don't like to wear eyewear.C.They adapt to the poor sight easily.D.They bark wrong letters on the eye chart.14.〔8分〕The third﹣generation hybrid rice which was developed by Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice",and his team underwent its first public yield〔产量〕monitoring from Monday to Tuesday and achieved high output. The final yield of the tested variety, G3﹣1S/P19, came to 1046.3 kg per mu 〔about 667 square meters〕, based on two plots of land in Qingzhu Village under the city of Hengyang in central China's Hunan Province."Some previous high﹣yielding hybrid rice varieties in China took 160 to even 180 days from sowing to harvesting, while the figure was shortened to around 125 days for the new variety. This is one of the most important characteristics of the third﹣generation hybrid rice that can reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers, thus reducing cost and improving production efficiency." said Qian Qian, the deputy director of the China National Rice Research Institute. Unlike the previous two generations that required a large amount of water and fertilizers as well as demanding growing conditions and technological support, the third﹣generation hybrid rice is easier to be cultivated by ordinary farmers. So the soil, altitude and climate of the test site were not "ideal conditions" carefully selected beforehand but were close to the paddies ofordinary farmers.Nowadays, China's average yield of rice is about 500 kg per mu. Ordinary farmers can produce 600kg to 700 kg of rice per mu by growing some excellent second ﹣generation hybrid rice varieties. However, under the same planting conditions and environment, the yield of the third﹣generation hybrid rice could reach 800 kg per mu. China now feeds around 20 percent of the world's population with less than 9 percent of the world's arable〔可耕种的〕land. At present, Yuan's team has nine third﹣generation hybrid rice combinations under trial, which are expected to achieve commercial seed production in the following three to four years and hope to apply the technology into the research of sea rice. The third﹣generation hybrid rice has the comprehensive strength to promote a greener and more sustainable development of China's rice production with higher quality and yield.〔1〕What feature of the new hybrid rice does Qian Qian mainly talk about?A.It saves a lot more water.B.It achieves a higher yield.C.It saves much more farmland.D.It has a shorter growing period.〔2〕Why is the new hybrid rice not tested in ideal areas?A.The ordinary farmers master planting technology.B.The researchers want to reduce the experiment cost.C.The growing conditions the new hybrid rice needs are simple.D.The previous rice farming provides researchers with experience.〔3〕What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?A.The high output of the third﹣generation hybrid rice.B.The promising future of the new hybrid rice variety.C.The advanced technology of the research on hybrid rice.D.The differences between the three hybrid rice varieties.〔4〕Which one could be the best title of the text?A.The Development of China's RiceB. However, it turns out that chocolate can be moresalutaryto your teeth than you might expect. Recent studies show that chocolate can effectively fight against tooth decay, as if we need another excuse to eat chocolate.Chocolate offers protection like fluoride, a main ingredient in most household toothpastes. Not only does chocolate protect our teeth, but it can do so very effectively. Studies show that chocolate has compounds that provide strong protection for teeth. One of the compounds in chocolate, CBH, is shown to protect even more effectively than fluoride.Tooth decay happens when bacteria work to turn sugar into acids in our mouth. This is why eating foods with high sugar content can lead to more tooth decay. The compounds in chocolate, however, are anti-bacteria and can fight against bacteria in your mouth. The CBH compound in particular also works to strengthen tooth enamel (牙釉质), andprotects against tooth decay.Does this mean you can cat as much chocolate as you want without worrying about your teeth? It depends on the types of chocolate that you like. The protective effect of chocolate is most effective when you chew on cocoa beans. Of course, this option is not very appealing to; most people. A more tasty option is to choose dark chocolate with little sugar content, ideally no more than 6 to 8 grams per serving. For other types of chocolatewith higher sugar content, the effect will be lessened. However, because of the protective compounds, it is still better for your teeth than other sweets and desserts containing the same amount of sugar.8. The word “salutary” in paragraph 1 means?A. However, some scientists believe it should be considered a praise, given that many birds can perform human tasks like producing and using tools, solving problems, and planning for future needs. Now,Griffin, an African Grey parrot, has proved that birds may even possess better visual memories than human adults and children. The study, led by Hrag Pailian, a researcher at Harvard University, had the parrot compete in the game against twenty-one undergraduate students and twenty-one 6 to 8-year-old children. The popular challenge involves hiding a small object under one of three or more upside-down cups, which are moved around. Participants are required to accurately identify the cup under which the object lies. To make the task more challenging, theresearchers required participants to track two, three, and four objects at the same time.An analysis of the results showed thatGriffinoutperformed the 6 to 8-year-olds across all levels on average. Even more impressive, the "bird brain" performed as well as, or slightly better than, the 21 Harvard students on 12 of the 14 trials! It was only in the final two tests, which had the most objects and most movement, that the parrot fell behind the adults. However,Griffin's performance was never below that of the children.Griffinwas the candidate of choice because the scientists needed an animal that had a brain functionality similar to that of humans. "The fact that the smart parrot loves to show off his brain power in exchange for a few cashews (腰果) did not hurt either", said Irene Pepperberg, a Harvard lecturer, who has trained Griffin and several other African Grey parrots, has been studying the species for over four decades and is considered a pioneer in the study of bird intelligence.4. Whatwere the participants required to do in the study?A. Identify different kinds of objects.B. Tell where the hidden object lies.C. Track other participants' performance.D. Move around upside-down cups.5. What did the results of the study indicate?A. 6 to 8-year-olds did better thanGriffin.B. Parrots have a better memory than other birds.C. Harvard students have a better visual memory.D.Griffinoutsmarted Harvard students in some trials.6. Why wasGriffinchosen for the experiment?A. It was good at making decisions.B. It was specially trained for experiments.C. It had similar brain functions to human beings.D. It loved to show off his language power for some treats.7. What is the best title for the text?A. "Bird brain" becomes a term for a stupid person.B. Harvard lecturer pioneers in bird intelligence study.C. Parrot outsmarted Harvard students in visual memory test.D. Researchers made new discoveries about human intelligence.CIn recent years, with the development of technology, it is common to see robots into our homes in the form oftoys and vacuums (吸尘器) without question. Children’s toys that rely on robotics for both entertainment and education are becoming more popular and more easily accessible. Robot vacuums, too, are so popular that the Roomba has even earned itself a name in popular television.A selection of other household wares can be purchased and owned for a reasonable cost, but they all look and perform like vacuums. Our domestic helpers are currently designed to vacuuming, mopping, sweeping and mowing.Of course the best known of these is the Roomba, but there is actually some competition amongst the autonomous vacuum manufacturers. Roomba, made by iRobot, now comes in several designs and has been through many versions of improvements. The basic model is just about $400, but there’s a more attractive version, complete with a wireless command center to control the robot from anywhere in the home. Samsung also has a vacuum, called the Smart Tango, which makes increased improvements on the Roomba by including brushes for cleaning corners. It’s possible that some of the less well-known vacuums might be even more exciting, like the Neato Robotics XV that takes on a square shape to better clean corners. Incremental (增值的) improvements are what drive the home robot industry. Now that domestic robots are becoming more popular, the near future should be exciting. If we are going to welcome robots into our lives and our homes, we should expect them to work for it, and work hard. It’s the dawn of the robot revolution, whether we like it or not, and it would be great to see that technology put to use in more innovative(创新的) ways.8. What does Roomba in the passage mean?A. A man’s name who has bought a domestic robot.B. A name of a big company who makes robots.C. A type of vacuum whose name is Roomba.D. A place where people can buy proper robots.9. The Smart Tango is different from other types in that ________.A. it has a wireless command centerB. it has brushes for cleaning cornersC. it is more famous and excitingD. it is driven without electricity10. What can we infer according to the last paragraph?A. Domestic robots will free us from housework.B. Domestic robots will become cheaper and cheaper.C. Domestic robots have brought environmental revolution.D. Domestic robots takes the lead in science and technology.11. What does the author intend to tell in the passage?A. Domestic robots are closely related to our daily life.B. It is interesting to see domestic robots at home.C. Domestic robots are too expensive for most people.D. It is convenient to buy a domestic robot.DThere is an old Chinese proverb that states “One generation plants the trees; another gets the shade,” and this is how it should be with mothers and daughters. The relationship between a mother and a daughter is sometimes confusing. The relationship can be similar to friendship. However, the mother and daughter relationship has unique characteristics that distinguish it from a friendship. These characteristics include responsibilities and unconditional love, whichprecludemothers and daughters from being best friends.Marina, 27 years old, said, “I love spending time with my mom, but I wouldn’t consider her my best friend. Best friends don’t pay for your wedding. Best friends don’t remind you how they carried you in their body and gave you life! Best friends don’t tell you how wise they are because they have been alive at least 20 years longer than you.” This doesn’t mean that the mother and daughter relationship can’t be very close and satisfying. This generation of mothers and adult daughters has a lot in common, which increases the likelihood of shared companionship. Mothers and daughters have always shared the common experience of being homemakers, responsible for maintaining(保持) and passing on family values and traditions. Today contemporary mothers and daughters also share the experience of work and technology, which may bring them even closer together.Best friends may ormay not continue to be best friends, but for better or worse; the mother and daughter relationship is permanent, even if for some unfortunate reason they aren’t speaking. Sometimes this is not an equal relationship. Daughters don’t always feel responsible for their mother’s emotional well-being. But mothers never stop being mothers, which includes frequently wanting to protect their daughters and often feeling responsible for their happiness. The mother and daughter relationship is a relationship that is not replaceable by any other. Mothers always “trump(胜过)” friends.12. What does the underlined word “preclude” in paragraph 1 probably mean?A. differ.B. benefit.C. prevent.D. change.13. What can we learn from what Marina said?A. Best friends will not spend money on her wedding.B. Best friends will not remind her of important issues in life.C. Her mother is wiser on account of her age.D. Her mother is definitely not her best friend.14. Why can a mother and a daughter build a even closer relationship today?A. Because they share advanced technology with each other.B. Because they work together to support the whole family.C. Because they experience the same values and traditions.D. Because they have common experience in life and work.15. What is the text mainly about?A. How to build a good mother and daughter relationship.B. A mother-daughter relationship is irreplaceable.C. Mothers want to be daughters’ friends.D. A daughter is a mother’s best friend.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
