以下是一篇参考范文,供大家参考。
Human beings have been living on this planet for thousands of years, and we have always relied on nature for our survival and development. However, in recent decades, human activities have caused serious damage to the environment, and the relationship between humans and nature has become increasingly strained. Therefore, it is imperative that we take action to protect our natural resources and prevent environmental pollution.Firstly, we need to raise awareness of the importanceof environmental protection. Many people still do not fully understand the consequences of their actions on the environment. For example, people continue to litter, waste water, and emit harmful gases without considering theimpact on the environment. Therefore, it is necessary toeducate people about the importance of environmental protection and encourage them to take action to reducetheir impact on the environment.Secondly, we need to take practical measures to protect the environment. For example, we can reduce our use of fossil fuels and switch to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. We can also reduce our use of plastic bags and other disposable products, and recycle as much as possible. In addition, we can support environmental organizations and participate in environmental protection activities. Finally, we need to work together to protect the environment. Environmental problems are global issues that affect us all. Therefore, we need to work together as a global community to address these issues. Governments, businesses, and individuals all have a role to play in protecting the environment. By working together, we can create a sustainable future for ourselves and for future generations. In conclusion, the relationship between humans and nature is complex and delicate. We rely on nature for our survival and development, but our actions can also have a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, it is essential that we take action to protect our natural resources and prevent environmental pollution. By raising awareness, taking practical measures, and working together, we can create a sustainable future for ourselves and for future generations.。

Although it is late in the school year, you should take action by reassuring your son that he did nothing to bring this on and that you will help him. Many parents, unfortunately, think that bullying and being bullied are rites of passage, something all kidsendure at some point in their lives just like suffering through boring assemblies and bad cafeteria food. But bullying is not, and should not be, considered a normal part of growing up.Studies done in Norway show that bullying is most common in the younger age groups but is still present even in the mid-teens. The percent of children who are bullied ranges from 17% in the second grade to about 5% in the ninth grade. A recent survey in the United States shows that 10% of children reported being bullied, 13% reported being a bully, and 6% reported being both bullied and being the bully. This survey was limited to sixth through tenth graders. What is bullying?Bullying involves intentional and repeated actions and words designed to intimidate or hurt another person. There is usually an imbalance of power, either physical or psychological, between the perpetrator and his or her victim. Occasional name calling and shoving are not considered bullying taunts and name calling by any persons regularly, then that is considered bullying. Physical aggression, social alienation, verbal aggression, and intimidation are the four main categories of bullying. Many parents are shocked when they find out their child has been the victim of a bully, and a few parents are shocked to find out that their child has been a bully. Victims tend to be more passive, anxious, and insecure than non-victims and to have more negative views of themselves. A small percentage of victims are termed “provocative” because they are both anxious and aggressive, often seeking the attention of the perpetrator. The bullies, by comparison, tend to be aggressive children and frequently lack sympathy for others. Bullies usually have a positive self-image and a desire to be in control. The bully cherishes power. The cherished myth of the bully as a loner with a poor self-image seeking to bolster his own self-worth by attacking others didn’t hold up to scrutiny of scientific study. Of course, there will always be victims and perpetrators who do not fit these profiles! Any child can be a bully, and any child can be bullied if the circumstances are right. Although bullying is common, studies report that only half the children report what is happening to a parent, and even fewer to a teacher. Few adults witness the acts of the bully because most aggression occurs at school and places where there is little oversight by an adult. The playground, cafeteria, and test rooms are common locations for the perpetrator to act.Children who are victims may develop a variety of vague health complaints to avoid going to school or wherever the bullying is taking place. Sometimesthis kind of school avoidance behavior can be a red flag for parents, so ask your child if he or she is being picked on and bullied. What to do about bullyingIf your child reveals to you that he or she is being bullied, take action. Parents can help the child by teaching him how to demonstrate an air of self-confidence by making good eye contact, speaking clearly and loudly enough to be heard. Remind the child to walk away from the encounter, tell the bully firmly that he is in the wrong, and to tell a teacher, parent or other adult what is happening.Parents of bullies should also intervene to stop the behavior and make it clear that bullying will not be tolerated or ignored. One study showed that 60% of boys who were identified as bullies in graders six through nine had at least one criminal conviction by age 24 years, between 35% and 40% of these children had three or more criminal convictions by that same age. Psychological counseling is often helpful and may identify the underlying problems such as depression or conduct disorder. There are many resources for parents and teachers. There are a number of good books such as Tackling Bullying in Your School:A Practical Handbook for Teachers by Sharp and Smith as well as Bully Proofing Your School by Garrity, Jens and Porter.1.According to the author, bullying and being bullied should be considered as a normal part of growing up.2.From the second grade to the ninth grade, the percentage of children who are bullied decreases.3.Occasional name calling and shoving are not considered bullying because they usually do no harm to the victims.4.Victims are described as more passive, anxious, and insecure than non-victims.5.Studies reveal that children trust their teachers more than their parents when they are confronted with bullying.6.Children who are bullying sometimes even stay away from school without permission.7. A Practical Handbook for Teachers is written by Sharp and Smith, professors of a prestigious university.8. To avoid going to a place where they are bullied, the children may invent various .9. Two or three years later, they enter a primary school. At the age of about 11 they go to secondary school. In some countries this is called a high school. Only plants can use this energy directly. Their leaves are little factories that use sunlight to make food from water and things in the soil and air.Plants in turn feed all other living things. Animals can only use the sun’s energy after it has been changed into food by plants. Some animals feed directly on plants, others eat smaller animals. Meat-eating animals are only eating plants indirectly. What about human beings? We are members of many food chains. We eat vegetables and fruit. We also eat meat and drink milk. This means the sun’s energy passes through plant to animal before it reaches us.Nature is a great thing.Any food chain always produces enough for each of its members if it is left alone. As time passed, people learned to raise animals and crops. Sometimes, families produced more than they needed. So they started to trade with other families.(3) Later, people began to use money as a means of exchange. However, it was not thekind of money we use today. They used shells, rice, salt, large stones, etc.During the 600s B.C, people began using coins as money. They soon found thatcoins were easier to carry than goods and lasted a long time. Later, countries began tomake their own coins. The Chinese were the first to use paper money, probably as early as the eleventh century. The Italian traveler Marco Polo saw the Chinese using paper moneywhen he visited China in the 1200s. (4)However, European countries did not startusing paper money until 1600sToday, we have many ways to pay for things. We do not use only coins or paper money. Well, to tell you the truth, it is really an eye-opening experience study here.In China, I had English classes five times a week since fifth grade. However, I didn‘t know how different tex tbook English could be from everyday English until I came to Hotchkiss School, Connecticut. When I first studied English, I was told to say, ―I am fine.‖ when people say ―How are you?‖ But in the US, I found that people say, ―I am good.‖ or ―I am tired.‖One day, someone greeted me with ―What‘s up?‖ It made me confused. However, in China, girls try every possible way to get their skin paler, or ―whiter.‖ I also surprised by how hard-working .US students are .In China, schoolwork is almost everything, so we study ha rd and that‘ it. 2012年全国二卷英语作文题目
2012年全国二卷英语作文题目全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Awesome Summer VacationWow, where do I even begin? This summer was just the best ever! I had so much fun and did a ton of really cool things. I can't wait to tell you all about it.First of all, my family and I went on this amazing trip to the beach. We drove for what felt like forever, but it was totally worth it when we got there. The beach was huge, with soft golden sand that felt so nice between my toes. The ocean was this incredible blue-green color that seemed to stretch on endlessly. As soon as we got settled into our beach house, I raced down to the water. The waves were pretty big that day, which was awesome for bodysurfing and jumping over them. My little sister was a bit scared at first, but I showed her how fun it was and she ended up loving it too. We spent hours just playing in the waves and building sandcastles. In the evenings, we'd have cookouts right on the beach. My dad would grill up burgers and hot dogs, and we'd roast marshmallows for s'mores over the campfire. We'd stay up late stargazing too. I'd never seen so many stars before – it was breathtaking. One night, we even saw a few shooting stars streak across the sky!Another highlight was going deep sea fishing with my uncle. We went out on this huge boat super early one morning. It was kind of boring at first, just sitting there waiting for a bite. But then my line started tugging hard – I had a big one on there! With my uncle's help, I reeled it in, and it was this gigantic redfish. We caught a bunch more after that. It was such a rush!Back at the beach house, my uncle showed me how to scale and fillet the fish we caught. Then my mom cooked them up with lemon and herbs. Oh man, it was hands down the freshest, most delicious fish I've ever tasted. We had fresh seafood almost every night, like shrimp, crab, oysters – you name it. So good!Though we spent most of our time at the beach, we did get to explore the nearby small town too. It had all these cute little shops and cafes lining the main street. We stopped at this one place that served the most mind-blowingly delicious ice cream –I got a triple scoop of rocky road, mint chocolate chip, andpeanut butter cup. We also went mini golfing one evening, which was a blast even though I came in dead last. All too soon, it was time to head back home. I was really sad to leave the beach behind, but I made a vow that summer – I'm going to be a marine biologist when I grow up so I can live by the ocean forever. This trip just cemented how much I love the ocean and all its amazing creatures. But that wasn't even the end of my summer fun! A couple weeks after we got back, my best friend Daniel came over and we set up an epic backyard campout. We pitched a tent, built a fire pit, and toasted marshmallows under the stars, just like we did at the beach. We told scary stories and did silly imitations of our teachers. At one point, I even pranked Daniel by putting a fake rubber snake in his sleeping bag!On other days, we'd go on crazy adventures around the neighborhood on our bikes. We'd see who could find the most interesting bugs or wildflowers. Our favorite game was naming all the different cloud shapes we could spot up in the sky. We also built this really cool fort/hideout up in the branches of the big oak tree in Daniel's backyard. That ended up being our top secret headquarters for the rest of the summer. One weekend, Daniel and I attended this awesome robotics camp where we got to build and program our own little robots. We learned all about electronics, coding, engineering – it was so fascinating! At the end of the week, we put on a 'robot battle' where our bots had to complete certain challenges and obstacles. Mine ended up winning by a hair!Honestly, this whole summer was just one fun adventure after another. I feel like I have a million more stories I could tell you. Going swimming at the local pool almost every day. Having epic water balloon fight with the neighborhood kids. My disastrous attempt at running a lemonade stand. Watching fireworks on the Fourth of July. Attending my cousin's wedding and doing an epic dance routine on the floor. Catching fireflies in a jar at night.Summer was simply magical. No school, no homework, no schedule – just endless opportunities for fun and making incredible memories. I'm definitely going to miss those carefree days of sleeping in late, staying up past bedtime, and not having a single care in the world. But I guess all good things must come to an end. School starts again tomorrow, which means back to reality – quizzes, book reports, and teachers blabbing on infinitely about math orhistory or whatever. At least I'll get to see all my friends again and show off my hard-earned awesome tan! I just hope the rest of this year is as fun and exciting as this summer was. Here's to making more amazing memories!篇2Title: My Best FriendHey there! My name is Tommy, and I'm 10 years old. Today, I want to tell you all about my very best friend in the whole wide world – Buddy! Buddy is my dog, and he's the most amazing, cuddly, and fun-loving pup you'll ever meet.Buddy is a Golden Retriever, and he's been a part of my family ever since I was six years old. I still remember the day my parents brought him home – a tiny, furry ball of energy with the biggest, happiest eyes. From the moment I saw him, I knew we were going to be the best of friends. We did everything together when I was growing up. Buddy would join me for backyard adventures, where we'd pretend to be brave explorers trekking through the jungle (which was really just our overgrown garden). We'd build forts out of cardboard boxes and blankets, and Buddy would be the fearless guard dog, protecting us from imaginary monsters.Whenever I felt sad or lonely, Buddy was always there to cheer me up. He had this incredible way of sensing when I was down, and he'd come over, nuzzle my hand with his wet nose, and give me those big, puppy-dog eyes that just melted my heart. No matter how bad my day was, spending time with Buddy always made everything better. One of my favorite memories with Buddy is when we used to go for long walks in the park. He loved chasing squirrels and playing fetch, and I loved watching him run around with his tongue hanging out, looking so happy and carefree. Sometimes, we'd even stop by the ice cream truck, and I'd get us both a treat – a cone for me and a doggy ice cream for Buddy (don't worry, it was made especially for dogs!).Buddy has also been a constant companion through some of the toughest times in my life. When my grandpa passed away a few years ago, Buddy seemed to understand how sad I was. He would snuggle up next to me on the couch and just let me hug him tight, as if he knew that's what I needed. His warm, furry presence was such a comfort during those difficult days. Now that I'm a bit older, Buddy and I have grown up together. He's not quite as energetic as he used to be, but he's still just as loving and loyal. We like to spend our days loungingin the backyard, soaking up the sun, and just enjoying each other's company. Sometimes, I'll even read to him from my favorite books, and he'll listen intently, his big brown eyes fixed on me as if he understands every word.Buddy has taught me so much about unconditional love, loyalty, and the importance of living in the moment. No matter what's going on in my life, he's always there, wagging his tail and reminding me to appreciate the simple joys in life – a sunny day, a game of fetch, or just a warm cuddle on the couch.I know that someday, Buddy won't be around forever. Dogs, unfortunately, don't live as long as humans do. But I cherish every single day I have with him, and I know that the memories we've made together will stay with me forever. Buddy isn't just a pet; he's my best friend, my confidant, and a truly special part of my family. So, if you ever get the chance to have a furry friend like Buddy in your life, don't hesitate. Dogs have a way of bringing so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives, and they remind us to slow down and appreciate the little things. Buddy has certainly taught me that lesson, and I'll be forever grateful for the unconditional love and companionship he's given me over the years.篇3Title: My Superpower - Imagination!Hi there! My name is Emily and I'm a 10-year-old girl who loves to use her imagination. I know what you're thinking, "Imagination? That's not a superpower!" But let me tell you, it totally is! With my imagination, I can go on amazing adventures, meet fascinating characters, and create whole new worlds, all without leaving my room! You see, when I'm bored or feeling a little down, I just close my eyes and let my mind wander. Before I know it, I'm transported to a magical realm filled with unicorns, fairies, and talking animals. Sometimes, I'm a brave knight slaying dragons and rescuing princesses. Other times, I'm an intrepid explorer discovering hidden civilizations deep in the jungle. My imagination is like a never-ending storybook, and I'm the author, illustrator, and main character all rolled into one. I can make up stories about anything and everything, and they're always exciting and full of surprises. Just the other day, I imagined myself as a superhero with the power to fly and shoot lasers out of my eyes! I soared through the sky, fighting evil villains and saving the world from certain doom. But my imagination isn't just for fun and games. It also helps me in school and with my everyday life. When I'm stuck on a math problem or struggling to write an essay, I use my imagination to come up with creative solutions. I might picture myself as a brilliant scientist solving complex equations or a famous author crafting a masterpiece. It's amazing how a little imagination can make even the most boring tasks seem exciting!I know that some people think imagination is just for kids, but I disagree. Imagination is a powerful tool that can help us solve problems, think creatively, and see the world in new and exciting ways. Even adults need a little imagination in their lives to keep things interesting! So, the next time you're feeling bored or stuck in a rut, try using your imagination. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let your mind wander. Who knows? You might just discover your very own superpower! In conclusion, my imagination is my greatest strength and my most cherished possession. It allows me to go on incredible adventures, overcome challenges, and express myself in unique and wonderful ways. Whether I'm slaying dragons, saving the world, or just doodling in my notebook, my imagination is alwaysby my side, ready to take me on my next exciting journey. Imagination truly is a superpower, and I'm grateful to have it!篇4My Awesome Summer Vacation!Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I just finished 4th grade and I had the best summer vacation ever! I want to tell you all about it.It all started on the last day of school. My teacher, Mrs. Johnson, gave us our summer homework. We had to write an essay about what we did over the summer break when we came back in August. I wasn't too happy about that at first because homework is no fun, especially during vacation! But then I got really excited thinking about all the fun things I could do and write about. The first week of summer, my family went camping at a national park a few hours from our house. We packed up our big tent, sleeping bags, a cooler full of food, and tons of other supplies into our car and hit the road bright and early. The drive was kind of boring, but I loved looking out the window at all the trees and mountains we passed by.When we got to the campground, my dad set up the tent while my mom got the camping stove going to make lunch. After we ate, my brother and I went exploring in the woods near our campsite. We saw so many cool things – squirrels running up trees, colorful wildflowers, even a deer drinking from a stream! That night after roasting marshmallows and telling spooky stories around the campfire, we all crawled into our tent and slept like logs. The next few days were packed with fun camping activities. We went on a long hike and saw a beautiful waterfall. We caught fish in the lake using poles my dad brought. And we made yummy hobo pies by putting fruit and chocolate between two pieces of bread and cooking them in the campfire coals. Camping was tiring but so much fun! I can't wait to go again next summer. After a week of camping, we headed back home. But the excitement wasn't over yet! The very next day, my best friend Emma came over for a sleepover to celebrate her birthday. First, we went to the pool at the recreation center and had a blast going off the diving boards and riding the waterslides. Then we came back to my house for a movie night themed birthday party. My mom let us set up a big tent in the backyard and decorate it with streamers and balloons. We made a snack buffet with all of Emma's favorites like pizza, popcorn, and ice cream sundaes. A bunch of our other friends came over and we all piled into the tent to watch a couple movies on my portable DVD player. We stayed up way too late giggling and telling stories. When it was finally time for bed, we were all totally wiped out!A couple weeks later, my aunt and uncle came to visit from across the country, which was really exciting. They took us to an amusement park about an hour away for a fun day trip. We rode awesome roller coasters that looped and corkscrewed upside down. I was a little nervous at first, but they ended up being a total blast! My favorite was probably the Mind Eraser because it had so many crazy twists and turns. Between rides, we played games and won some prizes like a big stuffed teddy bear. The last really cool thing I did over summer break was attend a weeklong day camp. Each day had a different fun theme like crazy science experiments, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, and more. On science day, we made our own lava lamps and launched rockets we built ourselves. Arts and crafts day was fun too – I made potholders, pendants, and colorful tie-dye shirts to take home. My favorite might have been outdoor adventuresthough, because we went canoeing, played capture the flag in the woods, and learned survival skills like building fires and shelters. I made a lot of new friends and have so many great memories.Well, that was my summer in a nutshell! Looking back, I'm really glad Mrs. Johnson assigned that essay because it pushed me to pack in as many exciting activities as possible. Between camping, sleepovers, amusement parks, and day camps, it was honestly the funnest summer ever. I can't wait to see what awesome things are in store next year! Thanks for reading my rambling story. I probably went a little overboard, but hey, Mrs. Johnson篇5The Day of the Big English ExamI woke up early on the morning of the big English exam. My tummy was all twisted up in knots from feeling nervous. I had been studying so hard for weeks, but I was still afraid I might forget everything I learned.Mommy made my favorite breakfast of pancakes with syrup and a glass of orange juice to help me feel better. She gave me abig hug and said, "You've worked so hard, honey. Just do your best and I'll be proud of you no matter what."The bus ride to school seemed to take forever. My best friend Lily sat next to me and we quizzed each other on vocabulary words until we finally arrived. When we got to our classroom, our teacher Ms. Wang had already set up all the desks in neat rows. She smiled at us warmly."Good morning, class! Are you ready for the big English exam today?" she asked cheerfully. We all nodded, but I don't think any of us really felt ready. Writing an entire essay in English felt like such a huge challenge. Finally, it was time to begin. The exam proctor passed out the test booklets and we listened carefully as he read the instructions. When he said "Begin," the room fell completely silent except for the sound of pencils scratching on paper. The writing prompt was: "If you could have any animal as a pet, which would you choose and why?"I took a deep breath and started brainstorming ideas. There were so many cool animals to pick from! I loved cats because they were soft and cuddly. But dogs were fun too because youcould play fetch with them. Maybe I could write about a more exotic pet, like a monkey or a parrot? After thinking it over, I decided a puppy would make the best pet. I made a quick outline with three main reasons: puppies are cuddly, playful, and loyal. Then I started drafting my essay:"If I could have any animal as a pet, I would choose a puppy. Puppies make wonderful companions for many reasons.First of all, puppies are extremely cuddly..."I continued writing out each of my main points with examples and details. I tried to use as many descriptive adjectives as I could remember. About halfway through, I realized I had written way too much for the introduction paragraph. Oops! I made a note to go back and shorten it later.Time seemed to fly by. Before I knew it, the proctor announced we had 15 minutes remaining. Frantically, I tried scribbling out my conclusion as quickly as possible. I ended up having to cut out some details I wanted to include. When the proctor finally called time, I felt both relieved and anxious. My hand was cramped up from all the writing, but I was proud of myself for working so hard. I really hoped my essay made sense and didn't have too many mistakes. After the exam, Ms. Wang treated us all to lollipops as a reward for our efforts. On the bus ride home, Lily and I compared our essays. Hers was about wanting a pet horse, which sounded lovely but also like a lot of work! When I got home, Mommy was waiting with a big plate of cookies fresh from the oven. I told her all about the difficult writing prompt while devouring three chocolate chip cookies in a row."You must be exhausted after that big test!" Mommy said. "Why don't you go rest for a bit?"I was pretty tired, but I felt happy knowing I had given the English exam my best effort. No matter how I scored, I could be proud of myself for trying so hard. Now I just had to wait patiently for the results...篇6My Favorite DaySchool days can be pretty boring sometimes. We have to sit at our desks and listen to the teachers talk all day long. My brain gets tired from trying to pay attention and remember everythingthey say. And the homework they give us is no fun at all! I'd much rather be outside playing and having adventures. But there's one school day every year that I absolutely love - Sports Day! Sports Day is the best day of the whole year. I look forward to it for months and months. As soon as we come back from summer vacation, everyone starts asking "When is Sports Day this year?" We get all excited thinking about the different events and the fun we'll have.On Sports Day, we don't have any regular classes. Instead, the whole day is filled with outdoor activities and games. We get to run, jump, throw, and play all kinds of sports. My favorite events are the relay races, the long jump, and the water balloon toss. I'm really fast so I always get picked for my class's relay team. Running as hard as I can while teammates cheer me on is such a thrill! The long jump is cool too. You get a short running start, then launch yourself as far as you can into the sandy pit. It's fun to see how far you can make it. And the water balloon toss...what kid doesn't love that? You and a partner stand farther and farther apart, tossing a water balloon back and forth, until finally it breaks and you get all wet. We spend weeks practicing our throwing techniques so we don't burst the balloon too soon. But Sports Day isn't just about the athletic events. There are lots of other fun activities and performances too. Each class puts on a little show, like a dance, song, or short play. We work on our performances for weeks ahead of time. I've been in dance numbers, sung in choruses, and acted in silly skits. It's so exciting to finally get to perform in front of the whole school and our families. And I can't forget about the food! Parents volunteer to run food booths selling all kinds of treats - sandwiches, chicken skewers, pancakes, and best of all...ice cream! It's like having a school festival. With just a little allowance money, you can buy snacks and drinks all day long. After all the events and performances are done, they always have competitions for families too. Grown-ups form teams and play games like tug-of-war, wheelbarrow races, andthree-legged races. It's hilarious watching my dad and mom competing against other parents while we kids cheer them on.At the end of the day, we're all hot, sweaty, and tired. But we had so much fun! I go home with pockets full of good luck charms that I traded with my classmates. Kids always make little talizans out of massage pellets, rubber bands, and folded papersto give to their friends for good luck. I have a shoebox full of them that I've collected over the years. When I get home after Sports Day, I take a nice cool bath to wash off all the sweat and dirt. While soaking in the tub, I look at all my new good luck charms. Then I go to bed early feeling tired but happy. Sports Day was awesome, and I can't wait until next year!Sports Day is definitely my favorite school day, no question about it. The games, the performances, the food, the fun...what's not to love? I just wish every day could be like Sports Day. School would be so much better if we got to run, play, and eat treats all day instead of sitting at our desks. Well, a kid can dream, right? I'll just have to be patient and start counting down until next year's Sports Day. Only 300-something days to go!。

Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET 1.(40 points)Text 1Homework has never been terribly popular with students and even many parents, but in recent years it has been particularly scorned. School districts across the country, most recently Los Angeles Unified, are revising their thinking on his educational ritual. Unfortunately, L.A. Unified has produced an inflexible policy which mandates that with the exception of some advanced courses, homework may n o longer count for more than 10% of a student‘s academic grade. This rule is meant to address the difficulty that students from impoverished or chaotic homes might have in completing their homework. But the policy is unclear and contradictory. Certainly, no homework should be assigned that students cannot do without expensive equipment. But if the district is essentially giving a pass to students who do not do their homework because of complicated family lives, it is going riskily close to the implication that standards need to be lowered for poor children.District administrators say that homework will still be a pat of schooling: teachers are allowed to assign as much of it as they want. But with homework counting for no more than 10% of their grades, students can easily skip half their homework and see vey little difference on their report cards. Some students might do well on state tests without completing their homework, but what about the students who performed well on the tests and did their homework? It is quite possible that the homework helped. Yet rather than empowering teachers to find what works best for their students, the policy imposes a flat, across-the-board rule.At the same time, the policy addresses none of the truly thorny questions about homework. If the district finds homework to be unimportan t to its students‘ academic achievement, it should move to reduce or eliminate the assignments, not make them count for almost nothing. Conversely, if homework does nothing to ensure that the homework students are not assigning more than they are willing to review and correct. The homework rules should be put on hold while the school board, which is responsible for setting educational policy, looks into the matter and conducts public hearings. It is not too late for L.A. Unified to do homework right.21.It is implied in paragraph 1 that nowadays homework_____.[A] is receiving more criticism[B]is no longer an educational ritual[C]is not required for advanced courses[D]is gaining more preferences22.L.A.Unified has made the rule about homework mainly because poor students_____.[A]tend to have moderate expectations for their education[B]have asked for a different educational standard[C]may have problems finishing their homework[D]have voiced their complaints about homework23.According to Paragraph 3,one problem with the policy is that it may____.[A]discourage students from doing homework[B]result in students' indifference to their report cards[C]undermine the authority of state tests[D]restrict teachers' power in education24. As mentioned in Paragraph 4, a key question unanswered about homework is whether______.[A] it should be eliminated[B]it counts much in schooling[C]it places extra burdens on teachers[D]it is important for grades25.A suitable title for this text could be______.[A]Wrong Interpretation of an Educational Policy[B]A Welcomed Policy for Poor Students[C]Thorny Questions about Homework[D]A Faulty Approach to HomeworkText2Pretty in pink: adult women do not rememer being so obsessed with the colour, yet it is pervasive in our young girls‘ lives. Tt is not that pink is intrinsically bad, but it is such a tiny slice of the rainbow and, though it may celebrate girlhood in one way, it also repeatedly and firmly fuses girls‘ identity to appearance. Then it presents that connection, even among two-year-olds, between girls as not only innocent but as evidence of innocence. Looking around, I despaired at the singular lack of imagination about girls‘ lives and inte rests.Girls‘ attraction to pink may seem unavoidable, somehow encoded in their DNA, but according to Jo Paoletti, an associate professor of American Studies, it is not. Children were not colour-coded at all until the early 20th century: in the era before domestic washing machines all babies wore white as a practical matter, since the only way of getting clothes clean was to boil them. What‘s more, both boys and girls wore what were thought of as gender-neutral dresses. When nursery colours were introduced, pink was actually considered the more masculine colour, a pastel version of red, which was associated with strength. Blue, with its intimations of the Virgin Mary, constancy and faithfulness, symbolised femininity. It was not until the mid-1980s, when am plifying age and sex differences became a dominant children‘s marketing strategy, that pink fully came into its own, when it began to seem inherently attractive to girls, part of what defined them as female, at least for the first few critical years.I had not realised how profoundly marketing trends dictated our perception of what is natural to kins, including our core beliefs about their psychological development. Take the toddler. I assumed that phase was something experts developed after years of rese arch into children‘s behaviour: wrong. Turns out, acdording to Daniel Cook, a historian of childhood consumerism, it was popularised as a marketing trick by clothing manufacrurers in the 1930s.Trade publications counselled department stores that, in order to increase sales, they should create a ―third stepping stone‖ between infant wear and older kids‘ clothes. Tt was only after ―toddler‖became a common shoppers‘ term that it evolved into a br oadly accepted developmental stage. Splitting kids, or adults, into ever-tinier categories has proved a sure-fire way to boost profits. And one of the easiest ways to segment a market is to magnify gender differences – or invent them where they did not previously exist.26.By saying "it is...the rainbow"(Line 3, Para.1),the author means pink______.[A]should not be the sole representation of girlhood[B]should not be associated with girls' innocence[C]cannot explain girls' lack of imagination[D]cannot influence girls' lives and interests27.According to Paragraph 2, which of the following is true of colours?[A]Colours are encoded in girls' DNA.[B]Blue used to be regarded as the colour for girls.[C]Pink used to be a neutral colour in symbolising genders.[D]White is prefered by babies.28.The author suggests that our perception of children's psychological development was much influenced by_____.[A]the marketing of products for children[B]the observation of children's nature[C]researches into children's behavior[D]studies of childhood consumption29.We may learn from Paragraph 4 that department stores were advised to_____.[A]focus on infant wear and older kids' clothes[B]attach equal importance to different genders[C]classify consumers into smaller groups[D]create some common shoppers' terms30.It can be concluded that girls' attraction to pink seems to be____.[A] clearly explained by their inborn tendency[B]fully understood by clothing manufacturers[C] mainly imposed by profit-driven businessmen[D]well interpreted by psychological expertsIn2010.afederal judges hook America's biotech in dustry toit panies had won patents for isolated DNA for decades- by 2005 some 20% of human genes were parented. The My riad case itself is probably notover Critics make three main arguments against gene patents: ageneis aproduct of nature, soit may not be patented; gene patents suppress innovation rather than rewardit; and patents' monopolies restrict access to gene tictests such as Myriad's. Before it ends,it will likely change the life course and characte r of a generation of young adults. And ultimately, it is likely to reshape ourpolitics, our culture, and the character of our society for years. No one tries harder than the jobless to find silver linings in this nationa l economic disaster. Many said that unemployment, while extremely painful, had improved them in some ways; they had become less materialistic and more financi ally prudent; they were more aware of the struggles of others. In limited respe cts, perhaps the recession will leave society better off. At the very least, it has awoken us from our national fever dream of easy riches and bigger houses, and put a necessary end to an era of reckless personal spending. But for the most part, these benefits seem thin, uncertain, and far off. In The Moral Consequences of Economic Growth, the economic historian Benjamin Fri edman argues that both inside and outside the U.S. ,lengthy periods of economic stagnation or decline have almost always left society more mean-spirited and l ess inclusive, and have usually stopped or reversed the advance of rights and f reedoms. Anti-immigrant sentiment typically increases, as does conflict between races and classes.Income inequality usually falls during a recession, but it has not shrunk i n this one,. Indeed, this period of economic weakness may reinforce class divid es, and decrease opportunities to cross them--- especially for young people. Th e research of Till Von Wachter, the economist in Columbia University, suggests that not all people graduating into a recession see their life chances dimmed: those with degrees from elite universities catch up fairly quickly to where the y otherwise would have been if they had graduated in better times; it is the masses beneath them that are left behind. In the internet age, it is particularly easy to see the resentment that has always been hidden winthin American society. More difficult, in the moment , i s discerning pre cisely how these lean times are affecting society’s character. In many respects, the U.S. was more socially tolerant entering this resession t han at any time in its history, and a variety of national polls on social confl ict since then have shown mixed results. We will have to wait and see exactly h ow these hard times will reshape our social fabric. But they certainly it, and all the more so the longer they extend.36.By saying “to find silver linings”(Line 1,Para.2)the author suggest that the jobless try to___.[A]seek subsidies from the govemment[B]explore reasons for the unermployment[C]make profits from the troubled economy[D]look on the bright side of the recession37.According to Paragraph 2,the recession has made people_____.[A]realize the national dream[B]struggle against each other[C]challenge their lifestyle[D]reconsider their lifestyle38.Benjamin Friedman believe that economic recessions may_____.[A]impose a heavier burden on immigrants[B]bring out more evils of human nature[C]Promote the advance of rights and freedoms[D]ease conflicts between races and classes39.The research of Till Von Wachther suggests that in recession graduates f rom elite universities tend to _____.[A]lag behind the others due to decreased opportunities[B]catch up quickly with experienced employees[C]see their life chances as dimmed as the others’[D]recover more quickly than the others40.The author thinks that the influence of hard times on society is____.[A]certain[B]positive[C]trivial[D]destructivePart BDirections:Read the following text and answer the questions by finding information fro m the left column that corresponds to each of the marked details given in the r ight column. Well, not any more it is not.Suddenly, Britain looks to have fallen out with its favourite historical fo rm. This could be no more than a passing literary craze, but it also points to a broader truth about how we now approach the past: less concerned with learnin g from forefathers and more interested in feeling their pain. Today, we want em pathy, not inspiration. From the earliest days of the Renaissance, the writing of history meant rec ounting the exemplary lives of great men. In 1337, Petrarch began work on his r ambling writing De Viris Illustribus – On Famous Men, highlighting the virtus (or virtue) of classical heroes. Petrarch celebrated their greatness in conquer ing fortune and rising to the top. This was the biographical tradition which Ni ccolo Machiavelli turned on its head. In The Prince, the championed cunning, ru thlessness, and boldness, rather than virtue, mercy and justice, as the skills of successful leaders.Over time, the attributes of greatness shifted. The Romantics commemorated the leading painters and authors of their day, stressing the uniqueness of the artist's personal experience rather than public glory. By contrast, the Victori an author Samual Smiles wrote Self-Help as a catalogue of the worthy lives of e ngineers , industrialists and explores . "The valuable examples which they furn ish of the power of self-help, if patient purpose, resolute working and steadfa st integrity, issuing in the formulation of truly noble and many character, exhibit,"wrote Smiles."what it is in the power of each to accomplish for himself"H is biographies of James Walt, Richard Arkwright and Josiah Wedgwood were held u p as beacons to guide the working man through his difficult life. This was all a bit bourgeois for Thomas Carlyle, who focused his biographie s on the truly heroic lives of Martin Luther, Oliver Cromwell and Napoleon Bona parte. These epochal figures represented lives hard to imitate, but to be ackno wledged as possessing higher authority than mere mortals.Communist Manifesto. For them, history did nothing, it possessed no immense wealth nor waged battles:“It is man, real, living man who does all that.” An d history should be the story of the masses and their record of struggle. As su ch, it needed to appreciate the economic realities, the social contexts and pow er relations in which each epoch stood. For:“Men make their own history, but t hey do not make it just as they please; they do not make it under circumstances chosen by themselves, but under circumstances directly found, given and transm itted from the past.”This was the tradition which revolutionized our appreciation of the past. I n place of Thomas Carlyle, Britain nurtured Christopher Hill, EP Thompson and E ric Hobsbawm. History from below stood alongside biographies of great men. (40 points)Text1The longest bull run in a century of art-market history ended on a dramatic note with a sale of 56 works by Damien Hirst, “Beautiful Inside My Head Forever”,at Sotheby‘s in London on September 15th 2008. All but two pieces sold, fetching more than £70m, a record for a sale by a single artist. It was a last victory. As the auctioneer called out bids, in New York one of the oldest banks on Wall Street, Lehman Brothers, filed for bankruptcy. The world art market had already been losing momentum for a while after rising bewilderingly since 2003. At its peak in 2007 it was worth some $65 billion, reckons Clare McAndrew, founder of Arts Economics, a research firm—double the figure five years earlier. Since then it may have come down to $50 billion. But the market generates interest far beyond its size because it brings together great wealth, enormous egos, greed, passion and controversy in a way matched by few other industries. In the weeks and months that followed Mr Hirst‘s sale, spending of any sort became deeply unfashionable, especially in New York, where the bail-out of the banks coincided with the loss of thousands of jobs and the financial demise of many art-buying investors. In the art world that meant collectors stayed away from galleries and salerooms. Sales of contemporary art fell by two-thirds, and in the most overheated sector—for Chinese contemporary art—they were down by nearly 90% in the year to November 2008. Within weeks the world‘s two biggest auction houses, Sotheby‘s and Christie‘s, had to pay out nearly $200m in guarantees to clients who had placed works for sale with them. The current downturn in the art market is the worst since the Japanese stopped buying Impressionists at the end of 1989, a move that started the most serious contraction in the market since the Second World War. This time experts reckon that prices are about 40% down on their peak on average, though some have been far more fluctuant. But Edward Dolman, Christie‘s chief executive, says: ―I‘m pretty confident we‘re at the bottom.‖What makes this slump different from the last, he says, is that there are still buyers in the market, whereas in the early 1990s, when interest rates were high, there was no demand even though many collectors wanted to sell. Christie‘s revenues in the first half of 2009 were still higher than in the first half of 2006. Almost eve ryone who was interviewed for this special report said that the biggest problem at the moment is not a lack of demand but a lack of good work to sell. The three Ds—death, debt and divorce—still deliver works of art to the market. Butanyone who does not have to sell is keeping away, waiting for confidence to return.21.In the first paragraph, Damien Hirst's sale was referred to as ―a last victory‖ because ____.A. the art market had witnessed a succession of victoriesB. the auctioneer finally got the two pieces at the highest bidsC. Beautiful Inside My Head Forever won over all masterpiecesD. it was successfully made just before the world financial crisis22.By saying ―spending of any sort became deeply unfashionable‖(Line 1-2,Para.3),the author suggests that_____.A. collectors were no longer actively involved in art-market auctionsB .people stopped every kind of spending and stayed away from galleriesC. art collection as a fashion had lost its appeal to a great extentD .works of art in general had gone out of fashion so they were not worth buying23. Which of the following statements is NOT true?A .Sales of contemporary art fell dramatically from 2007 to 2008.B. The art market surpassed many other industries in momentum.C. The market generally went downward in various ways.D. Some art dealers were awaiting better chances to come.24. The three Ds mentioned in the last paragraph are ____A. auction houses ' favoritesB. contemporary trendsC. factors promoting artwork circulationD. styles representing impressionists25. The most appropriate title for this text could be ___A. Fluctuation of Art PricesB. Up-to-date Art AuctionsC. Art Market in DeclineD. Shifted Interest in ArtsText2I was addressing a small gathering in a suburban Virginia living room—a women's group that had invited men to join them. Throughout the evening one man had been particularly talkative, frequently offering ideas and anecdotes, while his wife sat silently beside him on the couch. Toward the end of the evening I commented that women frequently complain that their husbands don't talk to them. This man quickly nodded in agreement. He gestured toward his wife and said, "She's the talker in our family." The room burst into laughter; the man looked puzzled and hurt. "It's true," he explained. "When I come home from work, I have nothing to say. If she didn't keep the conversation going, we'd spend the whole evening in silence."This episode crystallizes the irony that although American men tend to talk more than women in public situations, they often talk less at home. And this pattern is wreaking havoc with marriage. The pattern was observed by political scientist Andrew Hacker in the late 1970s. Sociologist Catherine Kohler Riessman reports in her new book "Divorce Talk" that most of the women she interviewed—but only a few of the men—gave lack of communication as the reason for their divorces. Given the current divorce rate of nearly 50 percent, that amounts to millions of cases in the United States every year —a virtual epidemic of failed conversation. In my own research complaints from women about their husbands most often focused not on tangible inequities such as having given up the chance for a career to accompany a husband to his or doing far more than their share of daily life-support work like cleaning, cooking, social arrangements and errands. Instead theyfocused on communication: "He doesn't listen to me." "He doesn't talk to me." I found as Hacker observed years before that most wives want their husbands to be first and foremost conversational partners but few husbands share this expectation of their wives. In short the image that best represents the current crisis is the stereotypical cartoon scene of a man sitting at the breakfast table with a newspaper held up in front of his face, while a woman glares at the back of it, wanting to talk.26. What is most wives' main expectation of their husbands?A. Talking to them.B. Trusting them.C. Supporting their careers.D. Sharing housework.27. Judging from the context, the phrase ―wreaking havoc‖(Line 3,Para.2)most probably means ___ .A. generating motivation.B. exerting influenceC. causing damageD. creating pressure28. All of the following are true EXCEPT_______A. men tend to talk more in public than womenB. nearly 50 percent of recent divorces are caused by failed conversationC. women attach much importance to communication between couplesD. a female tends to be more talkative at home than her spouse29. Which of the following can best summarize the main idea of this text?A. The moral decaying deserves more research by sociologists.B. Marriage break-up stems from sex inequalities.C. Husband and wife have different expectations from their marriage.D. Conversational patterns between man and wife are different.30. In the following part immediately after this text, the author will most probably focus on ______A. a vivid account of the new book Divorce TalkB. a detailed description of the stereotypical cartoonC. other possible reasons for a high divorce rate in the U.S.D. a brief introduction to the political scientist Andrew HackerText 3Over the past decade, many companies had perfected the art of creating automatic behaviors — habits —among consumers. These habits have helped companies earn billions of dollars when customers eat snacks, apply lotions and wipe counters almost without thinking, often in response to a carefully designed set of daily cues.―There are fundamental public health problems, like dirty hands instead of a soap habit, that remain killers only because we can‘t figure out how to change people‘s habits,‖ Dr. Curtis said. ―We wanted to learn from private industry how to create new behaviors that happen automatically.‖The companies that Dr. Curtis turned to —Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever —had investe d hundreds of millions of dollars finding the subtle cues in consumers‘ lives that corporations could use to introduce new routines. If you look hard enough, you‘ll find that many of the products we use every day —chewing gums, skin moisturizers, disinfecting wipes, air fresheners, water purifiers, health snacks, antiperspirants, colognes, teeth whiteners, fabric softeners, vitamins—are results of manufactured habits. A century ago, few people regularly brushed their teeth multiple times a day. Today, because of canny advertising and public health campaigns, manyAmericans habitually give their pearly whites a cavity-preventing scrub twice a day, often with Colgate, Crest or one of the other brands.A few decades ago, many people didn‘t drink water outsid e of a meal. Then beverage companies started bottling the production of far-off springs, and now office workers unthinkingly sip bottled water all day long. Chewing gum, once bought primarily by adolescent boys, is now featured in commercials as a breath freshener and teeth cleanser for use after a meal. Skin moisturizers are advertised as part of morning beauty rituals, slipped in between hair brushing and putting on makeup.―Our products succeed when they become part of daily or weekly patterns,‖ said C arol Berning, a consumer psychologist who recently retired from Procter & Gamble, the company that sold $76 billion of Tide, Crest and other products last year. ―Creating positive habits is a huge part of improving our consumers‘ lives, and it‘s essential to making new products commercially viable.‖Through experiments and observation, social scientists like Dr. Berning have learned that there is power in tying certain behaviors to habitual cues through relentless advertising. As this new science of habit has emerged, controversies have erupted when the tactics have been used to sell questionable beauty creams or unhealthy foods.31. According to Dr. Curtis, habits like hand washing with soap________.[A] should be further cultivated[B] should be changed gradually[C] are deeply rooted in history[D] are basically private concerns32. Bottled water, chewing gun and skin moisturizers are mentioned in Paragraph 5 so as to____[A] reveal their impact on people‘s habits[B] show the urgent need of daily necessities[C] indicate their ef fect on people‘s buying power[D] manifest the significant role of good habits33. W hich of the following does NOT belong to products that help create people‘s habits?[A] Tide[B] Crest[C] Colgate[D] Unilever34. From the text we know that some of consumer‘s habits are developed due to _____[A]perfected art of products[B]automatic behavior creation[C]commercial promotions[D]scientific experiments35. The jury is also said to be the best surviving example of direct rather than representative democracy. In a direct democracy, citizens take turns governing themselves, rather than electing representatives to govern for them. But as recently as in 1986, jury selection procedures conflicted with these democratic ideals. In some states, for example, jury duty was limited to persons of supposedly superior intelligence, education, and moral character. Although the Supreme Court of the United States had prohibited intentional racial discrimination in jury selection as early as the 1880 case of Strauder v. West Virginia, the practice of selecting so-called elite or blue-ribbon juries provided a convenient way around this and other antidiscrimination laws. The system also failed to regularly include women on juries until the mid-20th century. Although women first served on state juries in Utah in 1898, it was not until the 1940s that a majority of states made women eligible for jury duty. Even then several states automatically exempted women from jury duty unless they personally asked to have their names included on the jury list. This practice was justified by the claim that women were needed at home, and it kept juries unrepresentative of women through the 1960s.In 1968, the Congress of the United States passed the Jury Selection and Service Act, ushering in a new era of democratic reforms for the jury. This law abolished special educational requirements for federal jurors and required them to be selected at random from a cross section of the entire community. In the landmark 1975 decision Taylor vs. Louisiana, the Supreme Court extended the requirement that juries be representative of all parts of the community to the state level. The Taylor decision also declared sex discrimination in jury selection to be unconstitutional and ordered states to use the same procedures for selecting male and female jurors.36. From the principles of the US jury system, we learn that ______[A]both liberate and illiterate people can serve on juries[B]defendants are immune from trial by their peers[C]no age limit should be imposed for jury service[D]judgment should consider the opinion of the public37. The practice of selecting so-called elite jurors prior to 1968 showed_____[A]the inadequacy of antidiscrimination laws[B]the prevalent discrimination against certain races[C]the conflicting ideals in jury selection procedures[D]the arrogance common among the Supreme Court justices38. Even in the 1960s, women were seldom on the jury list in some states because_____[A]they were automatically banned by state laws[B]they fell far short of the required qualifications[C]they were supposed to perform domestic duties[D]they tended to evade public engagement39. After the Jury Selection and Service Act was passed.___[A] sex discrimination in jury selection was unconstitutional and had to be abolished[B] educational requirements became less rigid in the selection of federal jurors[C] jurors at the state level ought to be representative of the entire community[D] states ought to conform to the federal court in reforming the jury system40. Their clever designs and lightweight composites certainly make a difference . But a group of researchers at Stanford University , led by Ilan Kroo , has suggested that airlines could take a more naturalistic approach to cutting jet-fuel use and it would not require them to buy new aircraft. The answer, says Dr Kroo , lies with birds . Since 1914, scientists have known that birds flying in formation-a V-shape-expend less energy. The air flowing ove r a bird‘s wings curls upwards behind the wingtips . a phenomenon known as upwash. Other birds flying in the upwash experience reduced drag, and spend less energy propelling themselves . Peter Lissaman, an aeronautics expert who was formerly at Caltech and the University of Southern California ,has suggested that a formation of 25 birds might enjoy a range increase of 71%.When applied to aircraft, the principles are not substantially different . Dr Kroo and his team modeled what would happen if three passenger jets departing from Los Angeles, San Francisco and I as Vegas were to assemble over Utah, assume an inverted V-formation occasionally change places so all could have a turn in the most favourable positions , and proceed to London. They found that the aircraft consumed as much as 15% less fuel (coupled with a reduction in carbon-dioxide output). Nitrogen-oxide emissions during the cruising portions of the flight fell by around a quarter. There are , of course , knots to be worked out . One consideration is safety , or at least the perception of it . Would passengers feel comfortable travelling in companion? Dr Kroo points out that the aircraft could be separated by several nautical miles , and would not be in the intimate groupings favoured by display teams like the Red Arrows , A passenger peering out of the window might not even see the other planes. Whether the separation distances involved would satisfy air-traffic-control regulations is another matter, although a working group at the International Civil Aviation Organisation has included the possibility of formation flying in a blueprint for new operational guidelines. It remains to be seen how weather conditions affect the air flows that make formation flight more efficient. In zones of increased tur bulence, the planes‘ wakes will decay more quickly and the effect will diminish. Dr Kroo says this is one of the areas his team will investigate further. It might also be hard for airlines to co-ordinate the departure times and destinations of passenger aircraft in a way that would allow them to gain from formation flight. Cargo aircraft, in contrast, might be easier to reschedule, as might routine military flight. As it happens, America‘s armed forces are on the on case already. Earlier this year the country‘s Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency announced plans to pay Boeing to investigate formation flight, though the programme has yet to begin . There are reports that some military aircraft flew in formation when they were low on fuel during the Seco nd World War ,but Dr Lissaman says they are unsubstantiated. ―My father was an RAF pilot and my cousin the skipper of a Lancaster lost over Berlin,‖he adds. So he should know.41. Findings of the Stanford University researchers will promote the sales of new Boeing and Airbus aircraft.42. The upwash experience may save propelling energy as well as reducing resistance.43. Formation flight is more comfortable because passengers can not see the other plans.44. The role that weather plays in formation flight has not yet been clearly defined.45. It has been documented that during World War Ⅱ, America‘s armed forces once tried formation flight to save fuel.Section ⅢTranslation46.Directions:In this section there is a text in English .Translate it into Chinese. For the rest of the decade she apparently managed both roles without attracting much eroticism. But by the end of 2009 Ms. Simmons was un der fire for having sat on Goldman‘s compensation committee; how could she have let those enormous bonus payouts pass unremarked? By February the next year Ms. Simmons had left the board. The position was just taking up too much time, she said.Outside directors are supposed to serve as helpful, yet less biased, advisers on a firm‘s board. Having made their wealth and their reputations elsewhere, they presumably have enough independence to disagree with the chief executive‘s proposals. If the sky, and t he share price is falling, outside directors should be able to give advice based on having weathered their own crises. The researchers from Ohio University used a database hat covered more than 10,000 firms and more than 64,000 different directors between 1989 and 2004. Then they simply checked which directors stayed from one proxy statement to the next. The most likely reason for departing a board was age, so the researchers concentrated on those ―surprise‖ disappearances by directors under the age of 70. They fount that after a surprise departure, the probability that the company will subsequently have to restate earnings increased by nearly 20%. The likelihood of being named in a federal class-action lawsuit also increases, and the stock is likely to perform worse. The effect tended to be larger for larger firms. Although a correlation between them leaving and subsequent bad performance at the firm is suggestive, it does not mean that such directors are always jumping off a sinking ship. Often they ―trade up.‖ Leaving riskier, smaller firms for larger and more stable firms. But the researchers believe that outside directors have an easier time of avoiding a blow to their reputations if they leave a firm before bad news breaks, even if a review of history shows they were on the board at the time any wrongdoing occurred. Firms who want to keep their outside directors through tough times may have to create incentives. Otherwise outside directors will follow the example of Ms. Simmons, once again very popular on campus.21. According to Paragraph 1, Ms. Simmons was criticized for__ .[A]gaining excessive profits[B]failing to fulfill her duty。

Meanwhile the mobile phone subscriptions in developing countries have witnessed a slow increase from 1990 to 2004 and then a great surge from 2004 to 20007: the biggest surge happens from 2005 to 2006.This chart reflects different developing modes of mobile phone industry in developed and developing countries. The developed countries have a limited number of populations, most of whom are well-educated. Therefore, the spreading of the mobile phone service is efficient and soon the market is saturated. Also at the beginning the developed countries have more people who can afford this service. The developing countries have a large population who keeps a large demand for mobile service. As the mobile phone service becomes cheaperand cheaper, the increasing customers subscribe to benefit from this service. As discussed above, it is not surprising to see this change. In my opinion, this trend that the number of mobile-phone subscriptions is increasingly increasing will continue for a while in the future.2011年小作文范文:Dear friend,I am writing to congratulate you on your being successfullyadmitted to Harvard University, which enjoys an international reputation for its academic excellence and give you some suggestions as to how to make preparation for the coming college life。

2012英语二作文真题
2012英语二作文真题2012年英语二作文真题:Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: My View on University Ranking. You should write at least 120 words, and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:1. 现在大学排名越来越重要。
2. 大学排名的优缺点。
3. 我对大学排名的看法。
My View on University Ranking。
In recent years, university ranking has become increasingly important. Many students and their parents pay close attention to the ranking of universities when making decisions about which college to attend. However, the valueof university ranking is a topic of debate. On the one hand, university ranking can providevaluable information for students and their families. Itcan help them identify the best universities and make informed decisions about their education. Additionally, a high ranking can enhance the reputation of a university, attracting top students and faculty members, as well as more funding and resources. On the other hand, university ranking has its drawbacks. It can create a competitive and stressful environment for students, as they feel pressured to attend a highly ranked university. Moreover, university ranking may not accurately reflect the quality of education and the overall experience at a particular institution. In my opinion, university ranking should not be thesole factor in choosing a college. While it can offer valuable insights, students should also consider other factors such as location, campus culture, and available programs. Ultimately, the most important thing is to find auniversity that is the best fit for the individual student. In conclusion, university ranking can be a useful tool for students and their families, but it should not be the only consideration when choosing a college. It is important to weigh all the factors and make a decision that is best for the student's personal and academic growth.。

The year 2010 marked a significant turning point in my life, as I embarked on a transformative journey that would shape who I am today. It was the year I graduated from high school, a bittersweet moment filled with both excitement and trepidation. The world seemed to stretch out before me like an uncharted sea, filled with endless possibilities and daunting challenges. I had always been a bright and ambitious student, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I was about to step into the unknown. As I navigated the complexities of university life, I discovered a newfound sense of independence and responsibility. I immersed myself in my studies, eager to absorb knowledge and expand my horizons. I joined clubs, made new friends, and pushed myself out of my comfort zone in ways I never thought possible. It wasn't always easy. There were times when I doubted myself and questioned whether I had made the right choices. But through it all, I had the unwavering support of my family and friends, who believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. As the years passed, I began to realize that my true passion lay in writing. I loved the way words could paint vivid pictures, evoke emotions, and inspire change. I spent countless hours honing my craft, writing stories, essays, and articles that explored the human condition and the complexities of the world around me.Along the way, I encountered mentors who guided me, challenged me, and helped me to develop my voice as a writer. They taught me the importance of perseverance, thepower of storytelling, and the responsibility that comes with using language to communicate ideas.Today, as I look back on my journey, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me. The challenges I faced taught me resilience and determination. The support I received gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams. And the passion I discovered for writing has become the driving force behind everything I do.As I step into the next decade, I am eager to embrace new challenges, continue to grow as a writer, and make a meaningful contribution to the world. I know that the road ahead will not be without its obstacles, but I am confident that I am equipped with the tools and the determination to overcome them.In the words of the poet Mary Oliver, "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" I intend to live my life to the fullest, to pursue my passions with unwavering determination, and to make a difference in the world through the power of words.中文回答:站在新十年的门槛上,我不禁回首过去,展望未来。
