Some people express angeropenly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other peoplekeep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger. For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person'shealth than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hor-mones (荷尔蒙).They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etC.Ingeneral the person feels excited and ready to act. Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believethat those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and theybelieve that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger. They say the first step is to admitthat you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is seriousenough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “Do not express your anger while angry. Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has madeyou angry. Noschool I have ever taught in has ever ignored spelling or considered it unimportant as a basic skill. There are, however, different ideas about how to teach it, or how much priority (优先) it must begiven over general language development and writing ability. The problem is how to encourage achild to express himself freely and confidently in writing without holding him back with thecomplexities (复杂性) of spelling. If spelling becomes the only focal (焦点的) point of his teacher’s interest, clearly a bright child will be likely to “play safe”. He will tend to write only words within his spelling range, choosing to avoid adventurous language. That’s why teachers often encourage the early use of dictionaries and pay attention to content rather than technical ability.I was once shocked to read on the bottom of a sensitive piece of writing about a personal experience: “This work is terrible! There are far too many spelling errors and your writing isabilities in writing, but it was terrible.” It may have been a sharp criticism of the pupil’s technicalalso a sad reflection on the teacher who had omitted(省略) to read the essay, which contained some beautiful expressions of the child’s deep feelings. The teacher was not wrong to draw attention to the errors, but if his priorities had centered on the child’ s ideas, an expression of his disappointment with the presentation would have given the pupil more motivation (动机) to seek improvement.1.Teachers are different in their opinions about _________.A.he difficulties in teaching spellingB.the role of spelling in general language developmentC.the complexities of the basic writing skillsD.the necessity of teaching spelling2.The underlined expression “play safe” probably means ________.A.to write carefullyB.to do as teachers sayC.to use dictionaries frequentlyD.to avoid using words one is not sure of3.Teachers encourage the use of dictionaries so that ____________.A.students will be able to express their ideas more freelyB.students will have more confidence in writingC.students will have less trouble in correcting mistakesD.students will learn to be independent of teachersjudgment on that sensitive piece of writing is 4.The author seems to think that the teacher’s__________.A.unfair B.reasonable C.foolish D.careless三Perhaps the most famous theory, the study of body movement, was suggested by Professor Ray Birdwhistell. He believes that physical appearance is often culturally programmed. In other words, we learn our looks--- we are not born with them.A baby has generally informed face features. A baby, according to Birdwhistell, learns whereto set the eyebrows by looking at those around--- family and friends. This helps explain why the people of some areas of the US looks much alike.New Englanders or Southerners have certain common face features that can not be explained by genetics (遗传学). The exact shape of the mouth is not set at birth, it is learned after. In fact, the final mouth shape is not formed until well after new teeth are set. For many, this can be wellinto grown-ups. A husband and wife together for a long time often come to look somewhat alike. We learn our looks from those around us.This is perhaps why in a single country there are areas where people smile more than those in。

With a TV set in the fa mily people don’t have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre, the cinema, or the opera .All they have to so is to push a button or turn a knob, and they can see plays, films, operas and shows of every kind. Some people, however, think that this is where the danger lies. The television viewers need do nothing. He does not even have to use his legs if the has a remote control. He makes no choice and exercises, no judgment. He is completely passive and has everything presented to him without any effort in his part.Television, it is often said, keeps one informed about current events and the latest developments in science and politics. The most distant countries and the strangest customs are brought right into one’s sitting room. It could be argued that the radio performs this service as well; but on television everything is much more living, much more real. Yet here again there is a danger. Thetelevision screen itself has a terrible, almost physical charm for us. We get so used to looking at the movements on it ,so dependent on its pictures, that it begins to control our lives. People are often heard to say that their television sets have broken down and that they have suddenly found that they have far more time to do things and the they have actually begin to talk to each other again. As a result, they are employed doing jobs that afford them little or no satisfaction. Our school leavers face so much competition that they seldom care what they do as long as they can earn a living . Some stay long at a job and learn to like it ;others quite from one to another looking for something to suit them, the young graduates who leave the university look for jobs that offer a salary up to their expectation. Very few go out into the world knowing exactly what they want and realizing their own abilities. The reason behind all this confusion is that there never has been a proper vocational guidance in our educational institution. Nearly all grope(摸索) in the dark and their chief concern when they look for a job is to ask what salary is like. They never bother to think whether they are suited for the job or, even more important, whether the job suits them, Having a job is more than merely providing yourself and your dependants with daily bread and some money for leisure and entertainment, It sets a pattern of life and, in many ways, determines social status in life, selection of friends, leisure and interest. In choosing a career you should first consider the type of work which will suit your interest .Noting is more pathetic than taking on a job in which you have no interest, for it will not only discourage your desire to succeed in life but also ruin your talents and ultimately make you an emotional wreck (受到严重伤害的人)and a bitter person.11. The reason why some people are unlikely to succeed in life is that they _____ .A. have ruined their talentsB. have taken on an unsuitable jobC. think of nothing but their salaryD. are not aware of their own potential12. The difficulty in choosing a suitable job lies mainly in that_____ .A. much competition has to be facedB. many employees have no working experienceC. the young people only care about how much they can earnD. schools fail to offer students appropriate vocational guidance13. Which of the following statements is most important according to the passage?A. Your job must suit your interest.B. Your job must set a pattern of life.C. Your job must offer you a high salary.D. Your job must not ruin your talents.14.The best title for this passage would be ____.A. What Can A Good Job OfferB. Earning A LivingC. Correct Attitude On Job-huntingD. How To Choose A Job15. The word “pathetic”in paragraph 2 most probably means ____ .A. splendidB. miserableC. disgustedD. touching1.A

Passage 1Can we really multitask? Researchers say no. Our brains are not designed to focus on multiple tasks at once. Rather, they switch rapidly between tasks, a behavior that leads to poor performance. So, the next time you think you're multitasking effectively, think again. Our inability to multitask effectively is one reason why people are encouraged to avoid using their cell phones while driving. Engaging in texting or talking on the phone while driving is dangerous because it distracts our attention from the task at hand – driving. Studies have shown that using a cell phone while driving is as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol.Another area where multitasking can negatively impact our performance is studying. Many students believe they can study effectively while listening to music or watching TV. However, research has shown that multitasking while studying reduces productivity and leads to poorer retention of information, compared to focusing on a single task.In order to improve performance and productivity, it is important to minimize distractions and focus on one task at a time. By doing so, we can devote our full attention and energy to the task, leading to better results.1. According to the passage, what is our brain incapable of doing?A. Switching rapidly between tasks.B. Focusing on multiple tasks at once.C. Multitasking while studying.D. Improving performance and productivity.答案:B. Focusing on multiple tasks at once.

A little under one-third of U.S. families have no Internet access and do not plan to get it, with most of the holdouts seeing little usefor it in their lives, according to a survey released on Friday.Park Associates, a Dallas-based technology market research firm, said 29 percent of U.S. families, or 31 million homes, do not haveInternet access and do not intend to subscribe(预订)to an Internet service over the next 12 months. The second annual National Technology Scan conducted by Park found that the main reason why potential customers say they do not subscribe to the Internet is because of the low value to their daily lives rather than concerns over cost.Forty-four percent of these families say they are not interested in anything on the Internet, versus just 22 percent who say they cannot afford a computer or the cost of Internet service, the survey showed. The answer “I’m not sure how to use the Internet” came from 17 percent of participants who do not subscribe. The response “I do all my e-commerce shopping and YouTube-watching at work” was cited by 14 percent of Internet-access users. Three percent said the Internet doesn’t reach their homes. The study found U.S. broadband adoption grew to 52 percent over 2006, up from 42 percent in 2005. Roughly half of new subscribersconverted(转变)from slower-speed, dial-up Internet access while the other half of families had no prior access.“The industry continues to chip(击破)away at the core of non-subscribers, but has a long way to go,” said John Barrett, director of research at Parks Associates. “Entertainment applications will be the key. If anything will pull in the holdouts, it’s going to be applications that make the Internet more similar to pay-TV,” he predicted.1. Neither the volunteers nor the researchers knew who received which pill. The researchers then measured levels of capsaicin, which is used in research to cause coughing and as a sign of how well the medicine are stopping coughs. The team found that, when the volunteers were given theobromine, the capsaicin need to produce a cough was around a third higher than in the placebo group. When they were given codeine they need onlyslightly higher levers of capsaicin to cause a cough compared with the placebo. The researchers said that theobromine worked by keeping down a verve activity(神经活动), which cause coughing. They also found that unlike some standard cough treatments, theobromine caused no side effects such as sleepiness.1. Many of us mistakenly believe that it's wrong to think we have any good qualities. We may spend a lot of time blaming ourselves for our negative qualities, thinking that self criticism is the key to improving our performance. However, a constant focus on our supposed shortcomings can stop our efforts to make friends with other people. How can we believe that others could like us if we believe our inner being is flawed(有缺陷)?If someone seems to dislike you, the reason for that dislike might have little or nothing to do with you. The person who doesn't like you might be fearful, or shallow, or busy or shy. Perhaps you and that person are simply a mismatch for each other at this particular time.Don't take yourself out of the game by deciding that your flaws are bigger than your good qualities. In fact, some o f the very qualities you consider to be flaws may be irresistible to someone else. For all the factors that might cause one person to reject you, there are at least as many factors that will work in your favor with someone else. You might be thirty pounds over your ideal weight, but you may have a wonderful laugh and a real enthusiasm for life. There are many people who don’t mind your extra pounds. You may drive a shabby car, but you might be a great dancer and a loyal friend. There are people out there looking for loyalty, or fun, orsweetness, or wisdom, and the package it comes in is not important. If you are worried that you are not beautiful enough to attract friends, keep in mind that not everyone is looking for physical beauty in their friends. You can decide to feel inferior(自卑) because you don't have much money and you don't drive a nice car. You can believe that this is the reason that you don't have many friends in your life. On the other hand, if you are very wealthy you may be suspicious that everyone is after your money and that nobody really likes yo u as a person. The point is that you can focus on just about anything and believe it's the reason you do not have friends and cannot make any.36. According to the author ___________ plays an important role in making friends.A. admitting your shortcomingsB. self criticismC. modestyD. confidence【答案】D【解析】推理判断题。

Why are so many people so afraid of failure? Quite simply because no one tells us how to fail so that failure becomes an experience that will lead to growth. We forget that failure is part of the human condition and that every person has the right to fail. Most parents work hard at either preventing failure or protecting their children from the knowledge that they have failed. One way is to lower standards. A mother describes her child’s hasty-made t able as “Perfect!” even though it doesn’t stand still. Another way is to shift blame. If John fails science, his teacher is unfair or stupid. The trouble with failure-prevention devices is that they leave a child unequipped for life in the real world. The young need to learn that no one can be best at everything, no one can win all the time--- and that it’s possible to enjoy a game even when we don’t win. A child who’s not invited to a birthday party, who doesn’t make the honor roll on the baseball team, feels terrible, of course. But parents should not offer a quick consolation, prize or say, “It doesn’t matter.” because it does. The young should be allowed to experience disappointment—and be helped to master it.Failure is never pleasurable. It hurts grown-ups and children alike. But it can make a positive contribution to your life once you learn to use it. Step one is to ask “Why did I fail?”Don’t blame someone else. Ask yourself what you did wrong, how you can improve. If someone else can hel p, don’t be shy about inquiring. Success, which encourages repetition of old behavior, is not nearly as good a teacher as failure. You can learn from a bad party how to give a good one, from an ill-chosen first house what to look for in a second. Even a failure that seems definitive can prompt fresh thinking, a change of direction. After 12 years of studying ballet, a friend of mine auditioned for a professional company. She was turned down. “ Would further training help?” she asked. The ballet master shook his head. “ You will never be a dancer”, he said, “You haven’t the body for it.”In such cases, the way to use failure is to take stock(估量) of the situation bravely asking, “What have I left? What else can I do?” My friend put away her shoes and moved into dance treatment center, a field where she’s both able and useful. Failure frees one to take risks because there’s less to lose. Often there is recovery of energy—a way to find new possibilities.【小题1】The second paragraph tells us ___________A.how a mother praised her childrenB.parents should blame their children at the proper time.C.how to shift blameD.two ways of failure prevention most parents use when their children fail【小题2】According to the author, what should a child know in the real world?A.No one can be best all the time at everything.B.He should be equipped for life.C.No parents should offer quick consolations.D.He can get pleasure from failure as well as success.【小题3】The underlined word “prompt” in the fifth paragraph can be best replaced by “_________.” A.prevent B.cause C.continue D.exchange【小题4】From the passage we know that ______________.A.success lies in hard workB.never be disappointed to lifeC.failure can affect one’s life greatly once he learns to use it.D.everyone had his own value2022高考英语阅读理解--人生百味类The Loss of InnocenceInnocence is such a precious gift. It’s explained as freedom from guilt or wrong doing.Just imagine never having to worry about anything and having a guilt free mind. Some people wish to save this kind of innocence from being lost from childhood to adulthood. What would the world be like if innocence were never lost? One way it would benefit humanity is the lackof hatred (仇恨)among the world.During youth, there may be an occasional argument, even a little physical fight, but nothing like firing a handgun at a fellow human being. And children are blind towards the racial differences of others.A kid will hang out with any other kid.It is the lack of innocence and the ignorance we learn from adults that influence children otherwise.Another benefit is the constant desire for fun and adventure. With very little if any time at all for fun,the adventurous mind is lost in time with the responsibilities placed upon adults. If innocence were kept alive, these ambitions would never depart from our lives. However, other people actually hate the idea of innocence lasting forever. They feel that the lack of organization and mental power of those with innocence would cause extremely destructive consequences to society in general.A large number of individuals would never have the urge to learn, work, and act upon the necessary needs for humanity to survive.Without a proper education which is usually provided by those who no longer live in a world of innocence, people would not have the desire to succeed, get a good job in life,or provide income for their families, which would hurt the lives of children. The lack of a good education and career would also harm the economy. As long as innocence is kept alive,no one would be terribly angered at the lack of effort people put out in the workplace, resulting in a strong decline in production and quality of needed goods.Maybe it is wrong in wanting to save innocence. It sure is a nice thought, though.Perhaps innocence was meant to be lost.It was god’s will to make things the way they are,and there is a good purpose for everything. All that remains to be said about innocence is to enjoy it while it lasts.【小题1】The author believes that the loss of innocence in adulthood should be _______.A.avoidedB.condemnedC.acceptedD.inspired【小题2】Lifelong innocence would be beneficial to society in that _______.A.proper education would be providedB.there would be no racial discriminationC.more happy families would be guaranteedD.people would realize their childhood dreams【小题3】According to the author, people with innocence can hurt the economy with their lack of _____.A.motivational willB.mental abilityC.adventurous ambitionsD.needed goods【小题4】Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?A .B .C .D .

Rather than real animals, they are actually artworks made out of plastic trash from the ocean. These artworks are part of a traveling exhibit called "Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea". The Washed Ashore project, led by the artist called Pozzi, works to raise awareness about plastic pollution in Earth's oceans.More than 315 billion pounds of plastic litter the world's oceans today. Most of the plastic is garbage from towns and cities, as well as trash that people leave on beaches. Rainwater, winds, and high tides bring the trash into the ocean or into rivers that lead to the ocean. Once it is under the waves, the plastic begins to break up into smaller and smaller pieces.Thousands of sea animals die each year from eating plastic bags and other things. Each year, millions more pounds of plastic end up in the ocean. A recent study found that if that continues, by 2050 the total weight of plastic will be more than that of all the fish in the ocean. The Washed Ashore project is working to stop that from happening. Since 2010, Washed Ashore volunteers have collected 38,000 pounds of plastic trash from more than 300 miles of beaches. They helped Pozzi create more than 60 artworks of sea creatures harmed by plastic pollution."These artworks are a powerful reminder of our personal role and global responsibility in preserving biodiversity (生物多样性) on land and in the sea," says Dennis Kelly, director of the National Zoo.(1)What is the purpose of the artworks shown at the Smithsonian's National Zoo?A. The rule forbids people from driving in the city one day each week and one Saturday each month. Electric vehicles, government service vehicles, public transport options and school buses are not included in the ban.Mexico City isn't the first urban center to be involved in car-free living. But the ban is more than an awareness-raiser. It was enacted with the direct aim of solving air pollution. In March, the city sank into a deep brown haze of smog when the pollution levels passed the 200 mark. The city ordered some 1.1m of the area's 4.7m cars off the streets and also offered free bus and subway rides.Mexico City's temporary vehicle ban raises questions about the best ways to improve urban air quality. India, whose citizens breathe some of the world's dirtiest air, has tried a variety of solutions. Earlier this year, the Indian government started a 4% sales tax on new-car purchases. Beijing also has experience with cleaning the air. The city introduced alternate-day rules in advance of the 2008 Olympic Games, which produced good results. And then there is the London congestion (拥挤) charge, introduced in 2003. The charge has had a measurable effect on air quality. For now, Mexico City — named by the United Nations as the most polluted city on the planet in 1992 — can look forward to the start of the region's rainy season, when daily showers will help lo clean the air.(1)How did Mexico ban vehicles in the city?A. By banning private and Federal vehicles one day a week.B. By forbidding private and public vehicles every Saturday.C. By limiting the number of new cars.D. By prohibiting the vehicles except public ones.(2)What did the government of Mexico do when carrying out the ban on vehicles?A. Raised the number of public vehicles.B. Offered free bus and subway rides.C. Introduced more travel options.D. Encouraged citizens to leave the city.(3)What may contribute to improving the air quality in Mexico?A. Alternate-day rules.B. Tax rises.C. Congestion charge.D. The rainy season.(4)What's the best title for the passage?A. Mexico —an Island PlateauB. A Variety of Bans on Vehicles in MexicoC. Should Cities Be Car-free ZonesD.

Passage 1The US space agency NASA has revealed an astonishing picture revealing new secrets of the Earth’s home galaxy (星系), the Milky Way. The sun is just one of hundreds of billions of stars that form the huge shape of our galaxy. Our solar system sits in an outlying region but the new image focuses on the centre of the Milky Way, a “noisy” area because of all the crowded stars. Light from this region takes about 26,000 years to reach Earth. For comparison, light takes just eight minutes to reach us from the sun.The researchers use the data collected by two telescopes that see the sky in ways that are very different from the visible light our eyes can see to form the new image. Most of the data comes from 370 different pictures taken over the past 20 years by NASA’s Chandra X Observatory. This satellite telescope detects X-rays out in space. X-rays are a from of radiation that is sent out when violent events heat matter to temperatures of millions of degrees. Other data comes from the MeerKAT telescope in South Africa, which can detect radio waves from space. These waves have much less energy than X-rays. They are usually produced by cooler material, such as huge clouds of gas between the stars. The brightest sources include neutron stars which are the cores of huge stars that ran out of fuel and collapsed to city-sized balls of super hot matter. Many neutron stars and black holes jet out gases that appear in the picture as purple streaks (斑纹). Powerful magnetic fields in the area cause the jets to bend as they get further from their source. Astronomer Dr Daniel Wang, who has worked on the image over the past year, said the new picture described “a violent or energetic ecosystem”.1.What can be learned about the Milky Way?A.The center of it remains unknown.B.The sun isn’t located in the center of it.C.Its center is very peaceful.D.Its center features fewer stars.2.What’s paragraph 2 mainly about?A.The collection of space data.B.The function of the MeerKAT telescope.C.The differences of space waves.D.The formation of the new image.3.What can we know about the gases jetted out by the black hole?A.They will absorb surrounding materials.B.They will form super big matter.C.They get bent if away from their source.D.They are likely to explode when superheated.4.What may be the best title for the text?A.Our galaxy’s violent heart B.An attempt to travel in outer space C.Radio waves from outer space D.Stars’ purple streaks【导语】本文是说明文。

As the President of Ariel Investments, I am often asked how to cultivate (培养) green hands to be qualified for a new job within a short time. My memories take me straight back to the days when I worked for John W. Rogers. While in college, I worked as an intern (实习生) at Ariel Investments. As the youngest girl of six kids from a single mom, I had very little knowledge of the business world. When I graduated, I decided to return to the company to improve myself. At the age of 22, my perspective was greatly influenced by lunching with the company's founder and then-president, John W. Rogers. He told me that I would often find myself in the company of rich and successful people with big titles, lots of degrees and lots of experience. And yet, my ideas could still be as good or even better, he said. This early advice became the guiding force that has helped me throughout my entire career. When I was starting out, I thought my inexperience was holding me back, but John said that it was a good thing. He told me that being inexperienced means that you have a fresh point of view.As my tutor, John encouraged me to be brave. As my boss, he took some giant leaps of faith to support me. Because of our first lunch and the years of support that followed, I never thought twice about speaking up, raising my hand or taking a seat at the table. Staying in the background was never a choice. But John's advice came with one important warning. I needed to keep my attitude in check. It's one thing to be firm but quite another to be rude. Similarly, there is a fine line between confidence and overconfidence. With that in mind, I have had to learn to balance the way I act around others. As someone once told me, "the goal is to be non-threatened and non-threatening at the same time."(1)What can we learn about the author from the text?A. She went to Ariel Investments after graduation for practice.B. She made her voice heard with encouragement from her boss.C. Her miserable childhood had a negative effect on her work.D. (A )A coal-fire stove(炉灶)provided heating for Zhao Yaoqin's courtyard bungalow in a Beijing hutong all her life. This winter, however, the stove has disappeared from the 66-year-old's life, and an electric radiator takes its place beside her bed, a product of a government to use clean energy in the national capital. With the Olympics to be staged in Beijing next August, the city is determined to eliminate the use of coal within the Third Ring Road that circles the city before the Games. The project to replace the stoves with electric radiators has been part of the effort. When the city's four-month long heating season started on Thursday, coal-fired stoves, known as a big source of pollution in the big city, have disappeared from some 20,000 local households like Zhao's bungalow in the inner city "hutong" -- traditional alleyways(小巷) that date back centuries."We used to boil water or bake bread on the stove," said Zhao, sounding sentimental(伤感) to the disappearance of the coal furnace from her life.Late in the 1990s, Beijing's air quality monitoring office found that the emissions(排放) of sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide from the hutong areas have been higher than the city's average in winter, mainly because of the coal stoves. With the project to switch to clean energy for heating launched in 1999, the emission level of the two poisonous substances decreased by 42 percent and 44 percent, respectively, this year from 2001 levels.Zhao said the fee for electrical heat for the entire winter was usually around 2,400 yuan (US$323) per household. With the government's subsidy(补贴), however, she only needed to pay about 500 yuan, nearly the same price as that for coal.1.Zhao Yaoqin’ example in the passage is to tell us that_______.A.people in Beijing using electric radiators to welcome the Olympics.B.people in Beijing are doing something to protect the environment.C.hutongs in Beijing have a long history.D.People pay more money to use electric radiators than before.2. Zhao Yaoqin has a strong and deep emotion with the use of coal-fire stove.B. The government will pay most of the fee.C. The air of Beijing has been badly polluted since 1990s.D. The people do not use coal eight months in one year.4. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A. The clean air is important when the Olympics Games is held in Beijing.B.
