浙江省英语高考模拟卷(5)解析版

浙江省英语高考模拟卷(5)解析版

英语高考模拟卷一、阅读理解〔共10小题;每题2.5分,总分值25分〕1.阅读理解It's tough to see or hear of a friend in crisis. One idea to keep in mind is that it is healthy for the distressed person to feel what he or she feels in the moment. When a person in crisis feels understood, he or she feels less alone and connected to the person who understands.A person who experiences empathy(同理心)from a friend who can “go there〞for a few minutes in order to authentically understand while still maintaining a strong and supportive attitude may be relieving and healing. While a friend is telling you about the circumstance, the first and most important step is to listen for feelings, not ways to solve the problem. For example, a friend is terribly upset because her husband is threatening to leave her. After fully honoring the feelings, it is important to ask the friend what would help. Maybe it is a good cry and some ice cream. Perhaps it's a glass of wine and a walk. Everyone has different ways of dealing. Be respectful and ask the friend what she needs or wants, not what you prescribe.Take a second example, say a close friend is being misrepresented by other friends. The friends are gossiping about her. During a conversation with her, listen for feelings. Honor her hurt and shock. The same equation is useful with a partner.Helping a friend or partner in crisis not only helps the person, but creates closeness and trust in the relationship, making opening up in the probable future. In addition, the person who is empathizing feels positive because he or she was able to help. When a person is truly able to comfort and reassure a loved one, he or she feels vital and useful, strengthening the relationship.〔1〕What should we do first when we know a friend is in crisis?A.Keep away from him/her.B.Buy him/her a glass of wine.C.Understand how he/she feels.D.Show him/her ways to solve the problem.〔2〕What does the underlined word “it〞in paragraph 3 refer to?A.A way to solve the crisis.B.A way to relieve a bad mood.C.A way to listen for feelings.D.A way to honor the feelings.〔3〕How does the author prove his/her idea?A.By listing data.B.By quoting sayings.C.By giving examples.D.By conducting surveys.〔4〕What does the text mainly talk about?A.How to keep a loved one.B.How to make new friends.C.How to work with your partner.D.How to help a friend in trouble. An organization, Eye Care 4 Kids, is bringing much-needed eye care to poor kids. It provides free eye examinations for kids from poor families. Founded by Joseph Carbone in 2001, the organization has helped around 100,000 children in Utah and Nevada. Now, Cecil Swyers, a biomedical(生物医学的) engineer who was once a poor child himself, is bringing the charity's(慈善) services to poor students in Arizona, so that vision impairment(视力受损) doesn't stand in the way of their education.“Eye Care 4 Kids is bringing eye care and glasses to families that wouldn't have the means to pay for them,〞said Mario Ventura from Isaac Elementary School District, the first school district in Arizona to receive its services.Good vision is important to a child's learning experience. According to a study, up to 80 percent of learning happens through sight for children between 6 and 18 years old. Without proper eye care, it's difficult for students to learn better and succeed.Swyers is hoping that by bringing the organization to Arizona he'll help a lot more students. He teamed up with two other organizations to get doctors to volunteer their time with the group. Using an Eye Care 4 Kids mobile clinic, Swyers visited Alta E. Butler Elementary School and has already helped 40 students. The school was grateful to receive the eye care, especially since the services came to them. “It's great for us,〞said Assistant Principal Cindy Alonso.Swyers is hoping to bring Eye Care 4 Kids' services to other schools in the state. He said that hopefully his work will have a positive effect on students' futures. “If we can help students while they're young, we can make a difference in their futures,〞he said.〔1〕Eye Care 4 Kids helps students by _______.A.giving them sunglasses for freeB.offering money to their familiesC.examining their eyes for freeD.solving their problems in study〔2〕Who is in charge of the organization's services in Arizona?A.Joseph Carbone.B.Cecil Swyers.C.Mario Ventura.D.Cindy Alonso.〔3〕Where do students take an eye examination?A.In the classroom.B.In the mobile clinic.C.In the nearby hospital.D.In the places where students live.〔4〕What would be the best title for the text?A.Eye Care 4 Kids Was Founded by the PoorB.Eye Care 4 Kids Develops at a Fast SpeedC.Eye Care 4 Kids Helps Poor Kids SucceedD.Eye Care 4 Kids Fights for Better EducationBursting into the classroom from recess, 15 children take their seats and face the woman they know as Ms. Yang.“What day is it today?〞she asks, in Mandarin Chinese.“Confucius' birthday!〞the fifth graders shout in Mandarin.“Why do we celebrate Confucius' birthday?〞“Because he's the greatest teacher in the history of China!〞exclaims a brown-haired girl. She is speaking Mandarin.English is rarely heard in Lisa Yang's class at the Chinese American International School(CAIS), despite the fact that few students are native speakers of Mandarin. The United States is actively trying to increa se the group of students in “critical languages〞such as Mandarin. The students at CAIS are way ahead in such a trend.Founded 25 years ago, this small private school in San Francisco, USA, does what few other American schools do: It produces fully fluent speakers of Mandarin Chinese, by far the most commonly spoken language in the world.Mandarin Chinese is suddenly hot in American schools. As China becomes the world's leading economy sometimes this century, schools in the U. S. are scrambling to add Mandarin to their list of foreign languages or expand Chinese programs already in place.“It really is almost unprecedented. People are looking at China as a force to be reckoned with… And to ensure that the U. S. has the ability to conduct trade, and to work with the Chinese. Certainly having an understanding of Chinese language and culture is an advantage,〞said Marty Abbott of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages(ACTFL).To develop Chinese-language programs has not been smooth. A shortage of trained teachers has made it difficult for some schools to join the race. When schools do get teachers, they often hire them straight from China, and the teachers usually suffer culture shock when they come to the U. S.Robert Liu r emembers his first two years in an American classroom It was not an easy adjustment. “In China, students respect their teachers,〞he said. Liu found that American students, however, expect an active teaching style. He had to use games to engage them rather than lectures. To avoid many of the problems with foreign teaching styles, the CAIS has been working with the Chinese government to improve training of teachers who are sent to the U. S.〔1〕Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A.Understanding Chinese language and culture is helpful to work with Chinese.B.Chinese-language programs have met trouble during the development.C.Many other American schools do the same as CAIS, founded 25 years ago.D.A lack of trained Mandarin Chinese teachers is a problem for the programs.〔2〕What kind of problem is the most difficult to adjust in teaching Chinese in America?A.To adapt themselves to the American life styles.B.To communicate with the American students.C.To get along well with the American students.D.To be fit for the cultural differences in teaching styles.〔3〕The meaning of the underlined word “scrambling〞is similar to .〔4〕It can be learned from the passage that .A.the students in Lisa Yang's class usually speak ChineseB.There are few American students in Lisa Yang's classC.We celebrate Confucius' birthday because he's the greatest history teacherD.in America the students don't respect their teachers二、任务型阅读〔共5小题;每题2分;总分值10分〕4.根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最正确选项。

harmless.dangerous or somewhere in between?A small study published on Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine raises more questions than it answers about how these hits might affect the heart. The study involved257people who had surgery to clear blocked blood vessels in their ing two methods, researchers found evidence of plastics-mostly invisible nanoplastics—in150patients and no evidence of plastics in107patients.They followed these people for three years.During that time,30or20%of those with plastics had a heart attack, stroke or died from any cause, compared to8or about8%of those with no evidence of plastics. The researchers also found more evidence of inflammation(炎症)in the people with the plastic bits in their blood vessels.Inflammation is the body's response to injury and is thought to raise the risk of heart attacks and stroke.“I hope that the alarming message will raise the consciousness of citizens, especially governments,to finally become aware of the importance of the health of our planet.”said Dr.Raffaele Marfella of the University of Campania in Italy.Nevertheless, the study was very small and looked only at people with narrowed arteries(动脉),who were already at risk for heart attack and stroke. The patients with the plastics had more heart disease, diabetes and high cholesterol(胆固醇)than the patients without plastics. They were more likely to be men and more likely to be smokers. The researchers tried to adjust for these risk factors during their statistical analysis, but they may have missed important differences between the groups that could account for the results. This kind of study cannot prove that the plastics caused their problems.“More research is needed and it is the first report suggesting a connection between microplastics and nanoplastics with disease in humans,”said Dr.Philip Landrigan of Boston College.Other scientists have found plastic bits in the lungs, liver, blood, and breast milk,“It does not prove cause and effect, but it suggests cause and effect,”he said,“And it needs urgently to be either confirmed or disproven(反驳)by other studies done by other investigators in other populations.”8.What did the study find about the plastics in blood?A.They are visible and detectable.B.They may raise the risk of serious injuries.C.They need to be removed by surgery.D.They may account for a higher rate of heart attacks.9.What did Raffaele Marfella suggest?A.Immediate action should be taken by government.B.Alarming message should be spread widely and quickly.C.The awareness of the harm of plastic bits should be enhanced.D.Joint efforts must be made to keep healthy physically and mentally.10.What does paragraph5mainly talk about regarding the study?A.Limitations.B.Advantages.C.Causes.D.Effects.11.What did Dr.Philip Landrigan think of the study?A.Helpful but unrealistic.B.Pioneering but impractical.C.Distinctive but unnecessary.D.Suggestive but inconclusive.DImagine a bus y restaurant:dishes clattering, music playing and people talking loudly. It's a wonder that anyone in that environment can focus enough. In an earlier study.researchers established that people can separately control how much they focus(by enhancing relevant information)and how much they filter(by tuning out distraction).Recently,Neuroscientist Ritz compared the process to muscle coordination(协调)in his study:“In the same way that we bring together more than50muscles to perform a physical task like using chopsticks, our study found we can coordinate different forms of attention in order to perform brain activities.”To explore this,Ritz administered a cognitive task to participants while measuring their brain activity. Participants saw a mass of green and purple dots moving left and right. The tasks involved distinguishing between the movement and colors of the dots. For example, participants in one exercise had to select which color was in the majority for the rapidly moving dots with purple and green percentages close to50/50.“You can regard the intraparietal sulcus(脑顶内沟)as a radio dial with two knobs.one for focusing and one for filtering,”Ritz said,“When the anterior cingulate cortex(前扣带皮层)recognizes that, for instance, motion is making the task more difficult,it directs the intraparietal sulcus to adjust the filtering knob to reduce the sensitivity to motion and might also direct the intraparetal sulcus to adjust the focusing knob to increase the sensitivity to color. Now the relevant brain regions are less sensitive to motion and more sensitive to the color,so the participant can make better selection.Nowadays, much is still being explored about attention coordination.A partnership with scientists at Brown University is investigating focus and-filter strategies in patients with treatment-resistant depression;one study co-led by Rita and Brown Ph,D.students examines the impact of financial rewards and penalties(处罚)on focus -and-filter strategies.“We all know there is still a considerable journey ahead.”Ritz said.12.What is the main focus of the new study?A.The process behind brain activities in humans.B.The relationship between mental state and attention.C.The mechanism of focusing and filtering coordination.D.The impart of noisy environment on humans attention.13.What role does the dots'movement play in the task?A.A distractor for participants.B.A tracking target for the test.C.A main factor to evaluate the task.D.A warning for participants to focus.14.What does the underlined word“it”in paragraph4refer to?A.The focusing knob.B.The intraparietal sulcus.C.The filtering knob.D.The anterior cingulate cortes.15.What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.There are some challenges of the attention research.B.Ongoing research projects are based on these findings.C.Focus-and-filter strategies can solve depression problems.D.Motivation ways to drive attention are well applied in treatment.第二节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文。

2024届广西壮族自治区贵港市高三下学期5月模拟预测英语试题

2024届广西壮族自治区贵港市高三下学期5月模拟预测英语试题一、阅读理解The Self-Portrait ChallengeHave you ever done a self-portrait in an art lesson at school? Today, we’re challenging you to write self-portrait poems. It’s not uncommon to feel like the way people see you on the outside doesn’t quite match up with how you feel on the inside. So creating a self-portrait can be a good opportunity to address those differences and present the realest, truest version of yourself.Your challenge is to create a self-portrait in lines, using words instead of paint. Read on for some more inspiration.Writing Tips● Have a go at writing a list of metaphors exploring your physical appearance, starting from your head and working your way down towards your feet.● Instead of representing yourself directly, take on another character, such as a fictional character,a historical figure, or even a different version of yourself.● Play around with personification, by taking on the voice of a physical object in your poem. Think about what a self-portrait from the point of view of a mirror, or a bowl of your favourite food would look like? How to enterThis challenge is for writers aged up to 25 based anywhere in the world. The deadline is 23:59 GMT, 17 March 2024. You can send a poem, or poems, written down, or as video or audio files. We are using Submittable to accept submissions to this challenge. I feel it the most strongly when I’m worried about my health or my daughter’s health. I feel an unusual sensation and all of a sudden: panic! My worries are not limited to health concerns though, and they go in the direction of anxiety about the future of the world, worries about my finances, and fears that I’m not good enough.Let me go back a few decades, back to when anxiety wasn’t part of my life. When I was a child, I loved art. I drew and I colored because that’s what I enjoyed. I went to college to become an art teacher. When I finished school in May of 2001, I had a part-time design job, and after the event of September 11th,2001,I knew I needed to travel, to get out of the safe life I was living in my hometown. That’s when my creative practices fell by the wayside.Luckily, after the birth of my daughter in 2014, the desire to create came back. At first, I was using a tiny corner of a bedroom in our rental house to paint. Eventually we bought a house, and I had the space to spread out, ready to paint whenever the urge struck. That’s when I started noticing something important: Painting stilled me in a way that nothing else did. It eased my fears and anxieties in a way other practice (deep breathing, etc)did not, at least not as consistently. When anxious thoughts start, I know what to do. I head into my studio, grab some materials, and start creating. Soon enough, the worries are gone and instead my mind is quiet.I think the reason why painting is so helpful for my anxiety is that, in order for me to be anxious, I have to be worrying about the future and what it holds. When I’m doing an activity that requires my full concentration, I have to be in the moment. It doesn’t matter if you’re artistic. The only thing that matters is finding a way to be here, in the now, instead of in the unknowable future. 4.Which word can best describe the writer in paragraph 1?A.Cautious.B.Insecure.C.Considerate.D.Impatient. 5.When did the writer give up on art temporarily?A.After her daughter was born.B.After she studied in college.C.After she got a part-time job.D.After some big event happened.6.How does painting relieve the writer’s anxiety?A.Painting makes her stay in a place.B.Colors of painting calm her down.C.Painting is a very creative activity.D.Painting makes less room for worries. 7.What can we learn from the story?A.What is important is to seize the moment.B.Anxiety may sometimes be beneficial to life.C.It is necessary to learn some art in childhood.D.Painting is the best way to ease people’s mind. One morning in October, it was raining. David Makau, a farmer in the village of Munathi,south-east Kenya, knew it was time to plant his crops of cow peas and beans. Five days later, with the clouds disappearing, the sun grew hotter, marking the end of the rainy season.Farmers like him rely on a two-month period of wetting the fields, but this year it only lasted for five days. The bad harvest meant a third hungry year in a row and he could not afford to buy more seeds even if the rains did return. There was a glimmer of hope, however, in the form of a whitewashed building, the Munathi seed bank. Inside, out of the fierce heat and away from the underfed (营养不良的) cattle wandering the fields, there was a cool room crowded with bags of crop and vegetable seeds.Run by a group of farmers, members are free to help themselves on condition that they have to return twice the amount when they harvest their crops.Pioneered by Excellent Development, a British-run charity which provides sustainable aid in south-east Kenya, seed banks are vital for many farmers affected by climate change.“Aid isn’t about things but helping people to help themselves,” said Simon Maddrell, a member in the charity after he was made to leave his job as a manager with Xerox. He has always been fascinated by Africa since his visit with the Venture Scouts when he was a boy.Now he helps Kenyan farmers farm more efficiently.Excellent Development helps farmers help themselves, instead of simply giving them food handouts. “That takes away people’s dignity,” he said.Since 2002, the charity has built 200 sand dams on small rivers to create water supplies, planted 600, 000 trees, dug 670 miles of terracing (梯田) to help fields retain water, and paid for seed banks in 59 communities throughout south-east Kenya.8.According to the passage, what is a good harvest for Makau heavily dependent on?A.Long rainy days.B.The fierce heat.C.The number of seeds.D.The choice of the right crops.9.What can we learn about the Munathi seed bank?A.It has a huge stock of underfed cattle.B.It helps its members with seeds as sustainable aid.C.It is a charity run and funded by the Kenyan government.D.It unconditionally offers seeds to farmers affected by climate change.10.What can we infer from the text?A.October is the most suitable time to plant crops of cow peas and beans.B.Simon is very interested in Africa because he was brought up in Kenya.C.Excellent Development provides farmers with continuous aid to farm efficiently.D.Accepting help from Excellent Development makes people in Kenya feel ashamed. 11.Which can be the best title for the text?A.Pioneering Seed Loans in Kenya B.Helping Farmers Help ThemselvesC.Informing Farmers of Climate Change D.Giving Farmers Free Access to FoodHandoutsThere’s a useful concept from psychology that helps explain why good people do things that harm the environment: the false consensus effect. That’s where we overvalue how acceptable and prevalent (普遍的) our own behavior is in society. Put simply, if you’re doing something (even if you secretly know you probably shouldn’t), you’re more likely to think plenty of other people do it too. What’s more, you likely overestimate how much other people think that behavior is broadly OK.This bias (偏见) allows people to justify socially unacceptable or illegal behaviors. Researchers have observed the false consensus effect in drug use and illegal hunting. More recently, conservationists are beginning to reveal how this effect contributes to environmental damage. In Australia, people who admitted to poaching (偷猎) thought it was much more prevalent in society than it really was, and had higher estimates than fishers who obeyed the law. They alsobelieved others viewed poaching as socially acceptable; however, in reality, more than 90% of fishers held the opposite view. The false consensus effect has also shown up in studies examining support for nuclear energy and offshore wind farms.Just as concepts from psychology can help explain some forms of environmental damage, so too can they help address it. For example, research shows people are more likely to litter in areas where there’s already a-lot of trash scattered around; so making sure the ground around a bin is not covered in rubbish may help.Factual information on how other people think and behave can be very powerful. Energy companies have substantially reduced energy consumption simply by showing people how their electricity use compares to their neighbors. Encouragingly, stimulating people’s natural desire for status has also been successful in getting people to “go green to be seen”, or to publicly buy eco-friendly products. As the research evidence shows, social norms can be a powerful force in encouraging and popularizing environmentally friendly behaviors. Perhaps you can do your bit by sharing this article!12.Which example best illustrates the false consensus effect?A.A student spends long hours surfing the internet.B.A blogger assumes many people dislike his posts.C.A driver frequently parks illegally in public places.D.A smoker believes people generally approve of smoking.13.How did most Australian fishers view the issue of poaching?A.It is unacceptable.B.It is widespread.C.It is controversial.D.It is complex.14.What do the underlined words “go green to be seen” in paragraph 5 mean?A.Embrace green habits for better health.B.Make green choices that others can perceive.C.Join green movements for personal fulfillment.D.Choose green items that are easy to spot in stores.15.What is a recommended approach to addressing environmental problems?A.Understate social norms.B.Highlight personal responsibilities.C.Publicize sustainable practices.D.Encourage technological innovations. How to think outside the boxBeing open to dissenting (持异议的) opinions is not the only way to think outside the box.16 .A break in our everyday life may provide the force needed to shift the direction of our thinking. So we can change environments. For some people, small changes might work, for example, reorganizing our desk or taking a new route to work. 17 .A famous concept is approaching routine situations as if we met or saw them for the first time. In other words, we should look at them as if we’d never seen them. 18 . For instance, when we brush our teeth, take a moment to look at the toothbrush as if we never laid eyes on such an object and noticed its color and shape. Think about the flavor of the toothpaste and notice how our mouth feels as we move the brush back and forth.19 . The mere presence of a group of people with diverse experiences, views and backgrounds in our everyday life creates an atmosphere in which people can better respond to change. Why? Because they are key drivers of the development of new ideas and solutions.Unlike negative emotions (情感) that cause specific reactions (for example, fear drives us to flee), positive emotions help us broaden our attention, explore our environment, and open ourselves to absorbing information.20 . They can be those that are going well or for which we are grateful. This shifting into positivity process will automatically brighten our mood and free our brain.A.It’s also helpful to seek for the differenceB.We should show respect for different cultures tooC.Some small techniques could help broaden the way we thinkD.Take a few moments to think about the beautiful things in our lifeE.Positive emotions play an important part in unfreezing our thinkingF.However, for others, bigger changes such as a new job or a marriage are required G.“Beginners’ mind” allows us to remain open to experiences despite any knowledge we may have二、完形填空Last Christmas, I volunteered for WNWNB, a charity which takes surplus (剩余的) produce from New Covent Garden Market and 21 it to the local community. The food was already in containers.
