在Welcome to Chicago这一绘本课中，由于绘本主体内容芝加哥这个城市离大部分学生的生活比较遥远。
于是，在师生的free talk 中，教师以学生身边的城市为例，通过一个quiz让学生对自己所在的城市进行快速反应，同时为介绍芝加哥做好铺垫。
之后，教师告诉学生今天的学习内容也是一座城市，播放视频，让学生了解本课的主要内容是芝加哥的城市风貌。
教师不急于让学生进入绘本，而是让学生说一说希望了解芝加哥的哪些方面，激活学生的思维和想象。
2.综观全局，思维画图，设点画圈分任务。
该绘本的容量很大，介绍了芝加哥的六个方面，为了帮助学生形成清晰的思维脉络，笔者引入了思维导图。
从表现形式上来看，思维导图和大脑的思维方式是一致的，是一种利用大脑思维特点的有效工具。
思维导图是知识和思维过程的图形化表征，是一种用图表来组织、阐述、表达知识的工具，可以帮助学生梳习的内容。
为了让学生逐步掌握思维导图的画法，在介绍芝加哥的六个方面时，笔者做了这样的设计：第一个方面Nick names的内容较少，思维导图由教师引领学生直接画出；第二个方面Places for nature lovers 内容较多，由教师引领学生，一起圈出关键词，在课堂上即时生成思维导图，同时也向学生展示思维导图的画法，类似的手把手的教法能让学生比较清晰地了解思维导图的画法。
